My new favorite thing: People making their reusable elastomeric respirators beautiful! (Usually the Dentec P100 or the Dentec N95, which are NIOSH-certified and reusable.)

I've been collecting as many of these customizations as I can find, and I think they fall into a few categories:

The first is the colorful distraction, where it seems like the aim is to make the mask colorful and cheerful — less scary — which distracts from the apocalyptic / gas mask vibes, while still being simple enough for everyday wear.

2. The second is make it fashion, where the aim is to just make something that looks so incredibly cool that you feel beautiful wearing it, and it feels like a stylish accessory. These use lots of shiny elements and swirling patterns (all of the below by @/nickelpin)

3. And the third is punk where the mask customization embraces and enhances its non-conforming / resistance undertones. My favorite in this category is by @/andrewshumate, who installed a CO2 monitor and set it up so the filters change color based on the CO2 levels in the space.

Where to find n95 masks for those who may not know, or have lost touch with their source and wish to restart masking:

Here's NIOSH's list of approved n965s, so that you know whatever you're looking at is not a fake: https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/topics/respirators/disp_part/n95list1.html

For ease of finding, and because I find their insides consistently more comfortable than other similar brands, I like 3M. These are often available at many hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowes. If I had to go somewhere crowded, this is what I'd reach for. Bonus they're great for doing home repairs too.

I like Suzhou Sanical MS8225 for day to day wear. Granted, I shop off peek hours, and am lucky enough to be able to avoid schools and other poorly ventilated areas.

N95 and cosplay! It started life as a SubZero mask (I bought the STL from ClaUnererShop on Etsy, 3D printed it), but with a little Apoxy-Sculpt I have to say, I'm really proud of how it came out! I based it on the Advanced Biostabilizer mask from KOTOR and delighted in my "equip all the gear for the best stats" moment. +1 to saving throws while "preventing toxins from reaching the wearer" baby! The song is N95 by Kendrick Lamar which was just certified Silver in the UK. The pace of this song is incredible and that is why it works for the edit. The lyrics talk about throwing off the fake for the authentic and surely that search for authenticity and a true reflection of self is what Jimin has been going for with all of his concepts over the last couple of years.
