Cyril for thé character ask (:
Thank you for the ask! 💚
First impression: Did they just give me a displaced, re-educated indentured servant child slave?
Impression now: Cyril is a little boy who went from being a mistreated commoner to a prisoner of war to a servant child soldier. His story is complicated and there are people who hate different aspects of it for extremely personal reasons related to real world racism, colonialism and disconnect from home cultures. I am very considerate of what people hate about these things, but when people hate Cyril or imply he's one note with his affection for Rhea (especially from people who still LIKE RHEA but not Cyril?!) then I get so mad. I think there's room in his worldview for being a convert and for honoring the practices of his homeland, and I completely respect when people choose one or the other for their characterization of him, but it bothers me so much when people hate this trait of his. I wish he had supports with more characters. I'm his defence lawyer. He's under appreciated, but maybe that's for the best because I can only imagine people's opinions would just be more insufferable if he was more popular.
Favorite moment: Cyril's line in his C support with Claude, "If the king of Almyra was like you, maybe things would've been better." While the belated context is kind of humorous, and might bring to mind Claude's pride and ambitions; I think this line is so important out of context, where Cyril is just this young man little boy telling a stranger who's been nice to him, as just a servant to his noble studies, that there's hope in the world, even if not for him and his generation. Maybe things could have been better if better people were in power, as if reminiscing about people lost or dignity trampled; but still with the implication that maybe things would have been the same. Cyril is unmoved by whether people are from Fodlan or Almyra, as shown in his Paralogue with Hilda, and has to go through his supports with his friends to cast off how jaded he's (objectively, rightfully) become.
Idea for a story: I want to write a modern au of my Almyran sibling oc's bothering Claude in some way. Shahid needing shelter and having no other options. I think I could find a good place in such a story for Cyril to fit in as almost-adopted.
Unpopular opinion: He's just a little boy!
Favorite relationship: I love his friendships with Claude, Hilda and Mercedes. His mentee relationship to Seteth. His admiration of Shamir. And I like interpreting his possible romance with Lysithea.
Favorite headcanon: I'm going to bother you all with my recruitable Nader and Cyril support from a post long past. Below the cut for being kind of long.
.
C Support, Nader asks Cyril where he was taken from? Cyril asks him why it matters. Nader instead asks if there are other Almyrans working in the monastery? Cyril says it’s none of his business. Nader is surprised, and comments upon whatever laborous task they have Cyril performing, and Cyril will reply that he’s strong enough to do his work. Nader says he didn’t mean to suggest otherwise, he was just trying to - but Cyril will cut him off, saying he’s known men like him, he’s lived under men like him, that he might think he can show up and make demands of him just because he’s an Almyran, but that he works for Lady Rhea now, and his time is accounted for, he doesn’t owe Nader anything. Cue some version of Nader being left alone to observe that “that could’ve gone better.”
B Support, starts in a black screen with the sound of breaking wood. Cyril is in the training grounds and his last three arrows missed their target. “Your left arm is too low,” Nader observes. Cyril jumps and scowls. “I have a teacher.” Nader raises his hands in surrender, “Then by all means.” The sound of a bow being pulled taut, and then being straightened. Cyril comments, “Don’t you have somewhere to be?” “Is this part of your duties?” “I need to be prepared to defend Lady Rhea.” A missed shot. “From what?” asks Nader. “From anything,” Cyril answers. “That’s a lot to ask of anyone,” Nader observes. He continues, “But alright. Strong enough to defend one person? That’s a simple goal. It’s not as though you need to be strong enough to defend all of Garreg Mach, all of Fodlan, all of Almyra.” Cyril is catching his breath, “There’s a lot of people in Almyra.” “There is. Do you think they’re all like me?” “No,” Cyril answers, and explains, “no I know ya’ a bit now. There are men worse than you.” Nader chuckles sadly, “That’s true. Why don’t you try again?” “Yeah, alright. And then I should get back to work.” “Back to work?” “I’m supposed to be - err - I still need to clean the fireplace in the back.” Nader steps forward with a sigh. Cyril objects, “Hey what are you-?” “Your arm,” Nader repeats, “it’s too low. I thought it was your posture-” “What else would it be?” “You’re exhausted.” “Am not! I could go for hours yet.” “I don’t think your teacher would appreciate you practicing under these conditions.” Cyril makes the shot. Stares down Nader, walks off muttering, “Shows what you know.”
A Support HAS TO FEATURE an apology from Nader that they were unable to defend Lady Rhea. Cyril insists it’s fine, because they’re going to get her back. Nader does not fight him on this point. He compliments what a fine fighter he’s become, and Cyril concedes that Nader’s been honorable too. That it isn’t the will of the Goddess for him to be arguing all the time, and that he shouldn’t have been so quick to distrust him. Nader thanks him, but isn’t smiling about it. He asks Cyril what his goals are for after Lady Rhea returns, and Cyril says he’ll defend her, as he always intended to, so that nothing like this happens ever again. Nader suggests that he consider that, rather than showing his devotion at Garreg Mach, that he could always emulate those virtues he sees in Lady Rhea at the border, where there are people and children like he was, who will need help navigating both Fodlan and Almyra when the war is done, and that he would be glad to support him, if he should ever find himself out that way. Cyril says he’d have to think about it, but that … he does appreciate what Nader’s trying to do.

Kaga had the idea of Verdane as a “barbarian nation” in mind when he developed it for Jugdral, but at least the idea is communicated that Jamke’s brothers are idiots, and Batu lost his way because Sandima was manipulating him. Houses Almyra was never really shown but we got the concept that it had its good sides and bad sides. Nopes? Nopes Almyra truly is a nation of barbarians, who pillage for fun, refuse to acknowledge the people it trods on (even its own people, like Cyril), populated by nobility who are incompetent and stupid (Shahid) and whose military has no respect for its own king (Nader). Invasions are treated like field trips and pillaging is given the same weight as strolling through a gift shop. Even Brigid was eggtivated and lolcalised to declare its oppressor a friend. I’m amazed Sreng was actually treated seriously and given legitimate gravitas compared to the asspull nonsense of the other two routes.
Now if only we can airlift the Church (and Byleth, sans their shitty drunkard of a father, since at least Nopes gives us a tiny crumb in the form of undeniably canon mint) out of Nopes and into Jugdral I will be content.
I'll be a bit less enthusiast about FE16's Almyra -
Where did we had any clue about Almyra having "good sides"? Of course, you can't resume a nation to what a bunch of people did, but even in FE16, Cyril depicted Almyrans in less than admirable terms, the paralogue does them no favours and Claude doesn't help in the slightest, being prejudiced as he is (but hey, Claude learns and reconsiders, something Clout never does) against Fodlan and its supposed "isolationism" and whatever beef he had against the Church of Seiros.
The only thing of interest about Almyra is their "bend the knee escape the noose" mindset - which seems to be very different from Fodlan's mindset which indicates the two countries have a different set of values - but at the end of the day (in an epilogue else the game would be good) we learn that they eventually managed to become allies.
(Yes, I also find it ultra weird that Nader the Undefeated, who always pulls back, would become BFF with Hilda "I said I would run away instead of defending the city... but I'm actually fighting to my dying breath to protect the city, its inhabitants, and Claude" 's brother but who knows, maybe they really were drunk when they signed their BFF charter).
Basically, FE16's Almyra is a country that has a different set of values, that is seen through rose tainted glasses and through mud tainted glasses, but that is seen raiding the border for reasons. It is BaD? No, but Claude has some serious self-reflection to do on his thoughts about international relationships.
Nopes?
As you pointed out, Nader, Shahir, King Dad, and Clout himself...
Well.
However, I partly disagree on Brigid, it was lolcalised, but not eggtivated. Eggtivated Brigid would mean that even in the JP script Brigid is always happy to fight for Adrestia - as seen in Tru Piss and non SS routes, Petra receives a lot of "information campaign" from the Empire, to the point where she thinks she's only the "will" of the Emperor, and nothing else.
But when recruited or in SS (even in her SS paralogue) the game (FE16 at least) made it clear that Brigid is a vassal state, under the heel of Adrestia and they are pretty unhappy about it.
Granted, for sure, the lack of close-up on Brigid's situation bar Petra's non Tru Piss paralogue can count as an exemple of eggtivation.
TFW a random named Leif who doesn't even have a personalised sprite is in the same situation, but his country isn't sidelined bcs "uwu" so it receives the gravitas it deserves.
Nopes really destroyed Jerry, didn't it?

Golden Wildfire - Chapters 1- 4
I have started my GW route! Alright, let’s get started with note taking.
Playing through the intro all over again was annoying, but thank god for NG+ to move things along
Honestly, Claude is pretty charming. Shame about what I hear about later, though....
I forgot that Edelgard instantly tried to hire you, it’s been over 90 hours since I played the beginning....
Claude even stays behind to apologize. This man is going to be WILD RIDE. Guess that’s why it’s called Golden WILDFIRE. Eh? EH? Come on, laugh, damn it.
Jeritza doesn’t care about his house he gets, so stop with the Teacher Theory already. It’s not proven here at all.
Thank god for NG+ and all those levels I carried over.
Except Hilda and Claude.
Unlike SB, all the students are here for the ride. In SB, Bernie was basically in hiding for several missions.
Still seeing Edelgard talk with Jeritza but without the context would be confusing if you didn’t play SB first, I think.
Time to rescue Monica.
.....
At least she won’t be JOINING me this time.
Also, it’s really confusing that the Mysterious Mages are a yellow enemy but my troops are also yellow
On my SB run, I would sometimes try to attack my own red troops because I was so conditions to attack Red, since Red = enemy
Let me say it again but... thank GOD for NG+. I am flying through these maps
Lorenz being a Dark Knight already is funny
Monica gets right to the point this time, since Edelgard isn’t standing there being slobbered over.
Lorenz wants Tomas (Solon) to die for his animosity towards the church. Or something. Or he’s just being dramatic.
Raphael literally worries if the dining hall lady is also a traitor. Kek
Wait, did Scarlet Blaze ever go over Edelgad hiring Kostas? Because here, they are wondering if Tomas hired him. But I can’t recall now if they revealed Edelgard was the one who did. Does anyone know or remember?
Whoever voices one of the knights of serios... I have a crush on your voice. Just saying.
Nope, the transformation of Shez compared to Solon is still contrived as fuck
Claude is already investigating. Asking if Shez knows who Tomas is.
Shez asks if Claude is an outsider, after Claude mentions that he feels he met a kindrid spirit as an outsider. Kinda dropped the ball there a bit, Claude.
Almyra is now attacking. The Kingdom and Empire are busy with a revolt in the Kingdom, and a coup in the Empire. Maybe why the Almyrans are attacking now.
Lysithea likes it if you ask if we should ask for help from the knights.
Shamir joins us. The rest of the knights are already deployed elsewhere. The church doesn’t want to turn a blind eye to this invasion, even if their knights are spread thin.
Guess Marianne’s adoptive father doesn’t have much troops. Interesting
It’s nice to have everyone here. In SB, you lost half your cast.
Whelp, here is Shahid and Nader.
Poor Nader’s previous VA. :( Rip....
Shahid wants to conquer Foldan and get the throne. Of course.
There he is. Holst. (I’ve seen the VA on youtube, he’s so funny)
That chin tho. Almost as impressive as mine.
I do like how different this route feels already. I’m not looking forward to how it will go, by what I’ve seen. But, it’s still a nice change of pace after 90+ hours of the Black Eagles
Nader the Undefeated, because he runs away before losing. Lol
I’ve said this before back when I played the demo, but... Shahid not recognizing his bother is weird.
Is Shahid also the Undefeated because he ran away?
“Can’t kill him, he’s royalty. Don’t want an army to come for us for revenge”. I’m going to remember this for later.
Hilda calling Almyrans “unreasonable”.
Claude apologizing for making Hilda’s family protect the border for so long.
Claude made sure money is going into the Locket to restore it.
“Time for a feast!”
Time for that time skip!
So, we don’t get to see Edelgard’s declaration of war. Just that she... declared war.
The Alliance has been so peaceful that Shez literally has nothing to do. He sat around for two years.
Why didn’t Shez just leave looking for other work? Or look for Jeralt?
The Roundtable system is rough during war time, since the lords have their own territories and desires for their land to worry about. But it works well during peace time.
Edelgard makes Shez a commander right before the time skip (one, to show her commoners she gives them chances and two to keep an eye on him per Hubert’s suggestion). Here, Claude makes Shez a commander after the time skip, because I guess he really wants him on his side.
The lords are sending troops for the war effort.
Except Raphael, cause Claude asked him to come. Same with Leonie.
Except no Lorenz right now. He’s protecting the border.
It’s nice not to see red plastered all over the camp now. The yellow is pleasant, and the music kicks ass.
Ah, so there was talk about picking a different leader since Claude was so young. It’s the youngest that is about to go Palpitine on these nobles soon.
It really doesn’t cost much to unlock the renown units, huh?
Random NPC at camp is friends with the lovely Abysskeeper
I miss him
So, Shamir is just here because.... she happened to be this way. Lol
The camp feels so much more empty than SB did. I think we are given a lot less units right off the bat. I’m pretty sure GD gets the least amount of units total.
Finally can see Raphael and Ignatz’s C support. It was completely locked out in SB. Can’t see it there at all. Nothing much say about it though
Leonie’s supports are also unlocked here (was also locked out of SB). Again, nothing much to say about it. Except that translation error.... calling Jeralt by his name but Shez not catching on. Cause she never actually called the captain by his name originally.
There he is. Count Gloucester.
Lorenz is taller than his father, loooool
Man, Shez is coming more to ahead with Claude already, especially when compared to Edelgard.
Claude is wondering if Lornez’s father will join the Empire side (”hypothetically”).
And now we have Lorenz back in our party.
I noticed that Hilda is the one who asks you to do the chores and the cooking. In SB, Monica asks about the chores, and Ferdinand helps with the cooking.
What do you mean Claude doesn't like the History of Foldan book gift?!
Claude suspects that Edelgard might be trying to unite Foldan and rebuild from the ground up, despite Edelgard only declaring official war on the Church. Also, Edelgard did not reach out to him about entering Alliance lands.
Claude and Shez’s C support - So, I have seen this support before. But still worth mentioning in my notes. Shez really suggests “just take power, lol”.
Which reminds me, Shez likes that Edelgard has complete power. They even mention in her route that Edelgard has total power in her nation.
I really don’t understand why they gave us Shamir in this route, only for her to have no C supports with any of the GD.
She doesn’t have any supports with the BE either.
Hilda and Shez C support - .... Bewbs
I like a Hilda that isn’t all “Don’t let me hold a weapon. :( She seemed more responsible in SB, and she seems more responsible here too.
Since I have am playing on NG+, I am having more fun with class variations. But, I’m also unlocking supports faster than Edelgard invades countries.
Raphael may be kinda a bad person on SB with how gung ho he is about fighting, but hey! He’s still super cute here in his support with Claude. This support... I probably unlocked a little too quickly. They talk about how it’s unsafe for Raphael’s family to travel right now since peace is over, but the big fighting hasn’t technically started yet, so it feels a little early.... ah well, could be worse.
Claude’s metaphor with Raphael is... a little strange. OK, on paper it’s ok-ish. A future where “wild animals” (the eagles and the lions) share their game rather than fight over it. And then as deer, they are happy to forge, but Claude wonders where they should forge next.
What’s good about this metaphor - Claude alluding to his desire to expand his future beyond to new horizons as “where to forge next”.
What’s not so good - The empire and the kingdom fighting over the next game. Listen, this is true LATER in the story, when the Empire (and not so much the Kingdom), is fighting for the “game”. But at the point of this story? The Empire is the only aggressor. And the Kingdom just wants to be left the fuck alone.
It makes it feel just a little forced, if you aren’t paying attention to the world in general.
Hilda and Leonie support - Floral oils and war. Yup. Logical. Gotta have your special floral oils for war. Just like having sweets for backing nearly all the time.
Main battle time for chapter 4!
This chapter is very similar to how Edelgard takes the Great Bridge in SB. Just the other side of that story, in a way.
Claude is willing to let the bridge fall if it means not letting his people die a losing battle.
But that means he is willing to let the empire march on the monastery, also innocent people, as a result.
Urg, Archeton
He already defected
Killed him. He is always destined to die too.
Time to retreat as Claude mentioned before. Lorenz’s father covers the retreat.
Caspar is here. Comes out to prevent the retreat.
I don’t even feel anything about that. Like, nothing. No issues about fighting him whatsoever.
I do like how Linhardt rescues Caspar, and that they worry about each other dying.
Linhardt surrenders if you decide to recruit him. Caspar comes to try to and take him back (it’s honestly kinda cute), but of course we defeat him. In, Ferdinand shows up.....
Then the battle ended cause Lorenz’s father decided to also surrender to the Empire.
Of course, Lorenz is pissed right now, although he wasn’t so mad in SB.
To keep the Empire from running rampant in the Alliance, time to draw battle lines.
Lysithea’s house also has surrendered to the Empire.
The monastery has been attacked, and Rhea has fled to the Kingdom.
How... do we know that though? Cause, like... in SB, Hubert makes a point that it was pure chance that they knew where Rhea went. But here, we just... know that. I guess.
The situation is pretty dire. Claude is worried about the Empire reaching the capital. And there aren’t very many noble houses that can send troops.
Ooohhh, Judith has been mentioned!
Leonie wonders if the Kingdom can send troops, but Claude... cannot really trust them because he doesn’t know what is going on in Dimitri’s head?
This is the same guy who guessed and expected Dimitri to come running to his rescue in in AM.
Guess he needed that year to learn more about Dimitri. Guess he didn’t have the time here.
We don’t get any of Rhea’s “KILL EDELGARD” stuff here. She’s very pleasant.
Dimitri makes a point to say that they are an unwealthy nation and so their hospitalities to the church won’t be a hardy one.
What’s interesting here is we don’t get Dimitri’s debate with his vassals about taking on the Church as refugees. They just take them, with only a slight mention that he would have been hated by his people if he didn’t take them. In SB, we see Dimitri hem and haw over the decision. No such case here.
Interesting. Hubert says that the policy they promised to their vassals is turning out to be troublesome, since now they have to go rescue vassals like Lonato who didn’t follow the plan accordingly. We didn’t get such a conversation in SB. Even Edelgard agrees it’s irksome, but must be upheld.
They are kinda villainizing Marianne's father quite a bit.
Judith is awesome though. I’m really liking her here.
I like this politics talk. Debating about who to fill the Five Seats, and so on and so forth.
Holst just so happened to fucking eat bad mushrooms. This isn’t a funny running joke.
But they are making a big deal about how Claude has to go through all these hopes being in an alliance, instead of just an emperor or a king and just make decisions.
So basically, we are going to slow down the Empire army until the defenses are set up enough to stop them from getting to the capital.
I quickly went back to see what happens if you kill Linhardt instead of recruit him.
Caspar is upset, lol. But of course. And he’s enraged instead. Caspar feels Linhardt won’t find peace if he dies here so he retreats.
Kinda wish we had gotten this much rage from like... Felix when Sylvain died in SB, but to be far, Felix had fully retreated from the battlefield at that point. At least Dimitri mourned.

SCREAMING ABOUT THE CLAUDE ROUTE DEMO UNDER THE CUT
IT’S REALLY JUST ONE THING I WAS SO FUCKING RIGHT ABOUT NADER’S TITLE AND THE FACT THAT HE’S THE UNDEFEATED BECAUSE HE KNOWS WHEN TO RUN RATHER THAN THAT HE’S UNDEFEATED CLAUDE’S WORLDVIEW OF FODLAN’S BEING FOOLISH FOR DYING MADE NOTHING ELSE MORE OBVIOUS AND I’M SCREAMING I WAS RIGHT ABOUT HIS BIG BROTHER’S PERSONALITY AT LEAST ( though I like what I named him better lololol ) AND I’M JUST AHHHHHH I’M SO SCARED
Also just to be clear: i had to kill Nader THREE TIMES because the game kept giving me dialogue or a frickin sidequest prompt that refilled his health and I was like BOI

Presenting "i'm scared i'm crazy (i'm twice as scared i'm sane)" Chapter 8: The Story of One Man's Search, and Who He Found
For over ten years, Nader the Undefeated, unparalleled warrior of Almyra, has been haunted by the image of a little boy on a beach. The last time he’d seen the lost prince of Almyra, little Khalid had been shivering on the sand, arms wrapped around himself, his trunk at his feet and his eyes on the ship as it left him behind. At the time, Nader had truly believed they’d left the boy in the correct place.

Thank you for the ask!
for every "🌹" received in my inbox i'll post one random sentence of a random WIP i'm currently writing
This will probably never get written, but let me share some dialogue from my single parent au wip for my fe3h ot5. Claude and Ingrid are exes with Nader (a usual Fae x Claude fankid, not "the undefeated") as their 5 year old. Claude has asked Ingrid not to let the other kids call him other than his name, and it was going to be a problem that cropped up twice more, with her pointing out that "it's just a nickname" and "he doesn't even go by Khalid," etc. Claude asks Nader about it after a movie they watch together.
Claude: Did you ask your friends to start calling you Ned? I'm not angry, I'm just curious. Nader: It just happened, and Ned is like, a smart name? So I don't mind being Ned sometimes. Claude: You know, I think Nader's a pretty smart name. Nader: [clearly trying not to laugh] No. Claude: [scoffed, bringing Nader from couch to bed] Yeah, I do. Don't you think grandpa's smart? Nader: Sometimes. Claude: [amused] Oh, sometimes. Maybe. But I wouldn't have called you Nader if I didn't think he was smart, and brave, and honorable. [sincere] You know even if you're not, you're my Nader, and I don't want you to forget that, you know? I love you. Nader: I love you too.
