This is feel-good country, for sure, and you can sense the benefits to your mind, body and soul as you breathe in the sea air, and reconnect with the real world. Time in the #greatoutdoors is the best natural medicine to counter stress, anxiety and all the pressures forced upon us by our hectic lives, and one way to slow it all down is a visit to the Weskus. . . We've done countless journeys in the #isuzu #Xrider bakkies on three kickass #African Expeditions with @petervankets. Sunshine and adventure goes hand in hand with playing on the rugged @namaquawestcoast, especially if you're fortunate enough to go feral upon the dramatic Atlantic Ocean shoreline near #Doringbaai and #strandfontein 💙🌅 These buzzing little vakansie dorps brim with bonhomie and good vibes, and just getting outside here is sure to blow your mind. We left last week's #PerlemoenFees, sun-burnt and high on ocean #oZONE, but with a feeling of 100% after-action satisfaction. Our bellies were brimming with kreef & Perlemoen, and I have to admit to being slightly hung-over... fortunately a cold-water #surf will sort that out. At first glance, many deserts seem devoid of life. That is, until you begin to look beyond the obvious, and focus in on the miniscule, the unusual and very often extraordinary fauna and flora teeming within these arid landscapes. In the words of Pieter Van Wyk, arguably one of southern Africa's most knowledgeable desert botanists, there are floral ecosystems in the #richtersveld alone which are richer in diversity than the Amazon jungle. The scary thing is that some of these deserts are being denuded at a rapid rate due to climate change, with parts of the Richtersveld specifically having lost 85% of its biomass in just over three decades. This is potentially an irreversible process, and this is in part why @PetervanKets and I are trying to draw attention to these natural areas under extreme environmental threat through our series of @beyondexped adventures. #BeyondAukoerebis was our 3rd expedition, with a specific focus on five of southern Africa's key arid regions. Our @isuzusa #Xrider vehicles, fully kitted with @FrontRunnerZA equipment & @Dunloptyres_SA rubber, meandered via the #namaquawestcoast, #richtersveld, #NamibNaukluft, #kgalagadi and #augrabies on a 3-week, off-the-grid adventure, and we were fortunate to come face to face with Mother Nature at her immaculate best. The Hunt for #headspace ... On Monday, our @beyondexped #BeyondLockdown Expedition, driven by @isuzusa, sets off from Cape Town. This 9000km road trip will follow remote roads through South Africa, and along the way, we plan to visit 9x community tourism projects, one in each of the nine provinces. Our hope is to re-ignite #localtourism through highlighting and promoting these community adventures, and by enticing people to visit the breathtaking landscapes within which they are set. And as part of the process, we will create a full quiver of visual collateral - including professional Stills, 360 Degree Imagery, Aerial Footage and broadcast-quality Video – for each of these off-the-beaten-track destinations with which to market themselves. We've decided to kickstart the adventure with one of our most favourite regions in all of SA: the Namaqua West Coast. The first #localislekker stop will be at @piekenierskloofwine before we hook up with @monikadejager and the #visitNWC Crew. Our story here will capture the 'Search for the Big One', and we will join local fishermen and crayfish divers as they dip into the Big Blue in search of the bountiful treasures of the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way, we will endeavour to find characters who can best share the quirky stories, culture, history and cuisine of the #namaquawestcoast, and will then amplify their message across all our #BeyondExpeditions, #IsuzuSA and personal #SM Platforms. Sometimes, a #DSLR is just too big to take on the #trail, but you still need a quality imaging tool in case you're confronted with a kickass @namaquawestcoast panorama on your next #trailrun. That's the beauty of the @garminsa #virbultra30, just about the size of a matchbox and weighing in at less than an energy bar! It may well be miniscule, but it punches way above its weight, with 4k Video and a #slomo frame rate down to 300fps.
