Headcanon No. 7

It's mother's day and you had no mother.

You did once, in the earliest moments of life, but now you didn't and there was nothing you could do to change that.

The day was always a hard one for you, struggling through emotions you couldn't really convey aloud because there weren't many people who could relate and you were concerned about alienating yourself. You didn't want pity or awkward attempts to change the subject or pregnant pauses in conversation so you avoided the day altogether, hiding under the covers until the sun went down and all the happy children with present, pleasant mothers went to sleep with love in their hearts instead of a hole.

A nameless hole that meant you didn't belong to anyone. Everyone has a mother, but you didn't.

That's what usually happened anyway. Today was different.

"Happy Sunday," Namjoon said, waking you up with a soft nudge.

You laughed softly, stretching out the ache in your bones as if you had just woken up instead of the reality- which was that you had been laying there, paralyzed, trying to pretend that this day wasn't happening, "Happy Sunday."

Sunday- it was just a Sunday. He didn't mention his mother, it wasn't Mother's Day in Korea anyway- it was parent's day and that seemed less of a weight on your shoulders already.

You did Sunday things. You slept in together, hiding under the covers together, pretending the world wasn't turning together. You worked out together, got lunch together, went grocery shopping together. You made dinner slowly, held hands at all times o possible.

The fact that it was Mother's Day almost passed over your head completely, until you checked your phone and saw your friends' posts of love and gratitude.

"Hey," Joon mumbled, pushing the phone out of your hand softly and replacing it with his palms instead, commanding your full attention. "I see you."

You threw him a confused expression and looked away quickly, feeling your cheeks burn in an emotion you couldn't quite describe.

"I see you- I've seen you all day, watched you closely. I just..." He trailed off, faltering over his words until he pulled you close to his chest and hugged you tightly, with enough warmth that made your eyes water.

"You know you belong to me, right? That it's my job to take care of you and make sure you've eaten and make you happy?" He mumbled, his voice soft and carefully. His large form swallowed yours and made you feel like a tiny bird protected, fragility rendered null when someone was holding you like this. "It's my job now so you don't need anyone else. You have someone who's looking out for you. You belong to someone."

You didn't say anything, at a loss for words so instead you clung to him desperately, hiding your face in his chest.

"I see you- It's okay, I'm here now." He repeated earnestly, rubbing soothing circles into your back, "It's okay, you have me."
