No Patrick, just because a paper came out in favor of Nanotyrannus being valid doesn't mean it is

A new analysis of fossils believed to be juveniles of T. rex now shows they were adults of a small tyrannosaur, with narrower jaws, longer legs, and bigger arms than T. rex. The species, Nanotyrannus lancensis, was first named decades ago but later reinterpreted as a young T. rex. The first skull of Nanotyrannus was found in Montana in 1942, but for decades, paleontologists have gone back and forth on whether it was a separate species, or simply a juvenile of the much larger T. rex.

homunculus facts¡
the famous historical homunculus greggsymus coldcuttus is now best known for his treatise on construct rights' but in his time was most famous for having regenerating buttocks made of liverwurst' which his creator exploited during feasts•
homunculi found in ohio and indiana smell noticably of corn syrup• they also learn splash by level up•
whenever my buddy porfinnz eats a sandwich' it appears in his feces completely reconstituted as a whole sandwich• he chews them and everything' i guess his intestines unchew them• ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭
a recent study supports the hypothesis that „juvenile homuncusaurus„ were actually a separate species called nanomunculusaurus' but if you wait two months' they,ll flip flop on that•
my little toesies are cold• ( ⚈̥̥̥̥̥́⌢⚈̥̥̥̥̥̀)

Buckle up fuckers, because it sounds like the unending argument around Nanotyrannus is about to take a hard swerve into Weirdsville.

(nerdy paleontology rant below cut) (also, I don't have the best English especially with apostrophes, but this definitely is intelligible lol)
I just now read an article about whether "nanotyrannus" was a separate species from T.rex or not. and it had a part where the author was talking about how they felt about people buying important fossils just to display them non-publicly in their own homes. And im starting to think I completely agree. Its way better to sell fossils to a museum or research centers so that the public can know about them. why would you need to have a fossil, especially a well debated dinosaur like the "nanotyrannus" which would be better to either be displayed to the public--or researched further. It just makes a bit more sense to me because education on paleontology is not taught in schools unless you search for it as far as I know, and misinformation is VERY commonly spread in the paleontological community within minors (such as me and my peers and people younger) to the point where children could be taught completely far off things from the truth, I'm not saying movie monsters inspired by dinosaurs are bad in general, im just saying they're never labeled as not accurate--which they are--they're just labeled as dinosaurs, which can definitely confuse the future paleontologists of this world.
feel free to debate (not fight) me about this!! that's all for this rant see you guys when I can post -Crow :3

Surprise Bonus Poll!
Tumblr media
Nanotyrannus: A fraudulent trickster! Accused of just being a juvenile tyrannosaurus and not a separate species.
Plea: not guilty by reason of they are just a lil guy!
Bubble Buddy: A vicious monster! Accused of poisoning our water supply, burning our crops, and delivering a plague upon our houses.
Plea: not guilty by reason of things are getting a little weird around here

Last bit of paleoart for today, an illustration of a nanotyrannus/juvenile Tyrannosaurus skull I did for a paleontology class! Enjoy!
[ID a stipple drawing of a small tyrannosaur skull, illustrated from lateral (from the side) and dorsal (from the top) views. The individual skull bones are outlined and labeled in both views, and the fenestrae (openings) in the skull where matrix would have filled are shaded flat grey. There is a 10cm scale bar at the bottom of each skull, with the total skull length being around a meter. END]

So I went to the Burpee Museum in Rockford Illinois this past Saturday(2/3/2024) and found that Jane was missing some things...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I went up front to ask the people at the desk what gives and this is what I found.
When Jane was first found there was originally a belief that she was her own species, Nanotyrannus. It was relatively swiftly discounted in favor of Jane being simply a juvenile Tyrannosaurus Rex. However during the end of 2023 there's been a resurgence of the Nanotyrannus theory. When I was visiting it turns out there was a team taking the casts of the fossils used for the display down for study, perhaps in reaction to this.
I also found out that they are now in the process of 3D scanning the casts so that they can make a 3D scan duplicate of the skeleton to be able to share about with other museums and researchers.
So that's pretty cool. Figured that some people may find this interesting.
