365 Fandom: Love Between Fairy and Devil Rating: Explicit Tags: Sex, Smut, Dubcon, Kidnapping, Romance, Slow Burn, Enemies to Lovers, Modern AU, Mafia AU
Summary: After Dongfang became the head of the family business, he was haunted by the vision of the woman who saved him from tragedy. Years later he finds Lanhua, and gives her 365 days to fall in love with him. And Dongfang always gets what he wants.
A/N: So yes this is a modern AU inspired by the 365 Days movie. That movie really sucks and I don't recommend it to anyone, but it had some killer ideas in it that I am borrowing and rewriting so it's actually sexy and makes sense.
I'll be publishing this on AO3 in the next couple of days, but here is the first chapter! Please mind the tags as you read!
Chapter 1
In the back of the cafe there is a room where only certain people have exclusive access. It is in this room where deals are made, things are bought and sold, names selected to live or die.
It is here that the head of the Moon family meets with two of the biggest assholes he's ever met in his life. They are from Shuiyuntian, whose family has a long and complicated history with the Moons. They are more often at war than not, although the two sides have shared an uneasy understanding as of late. Which is good, the old man thinks, because he is nearly ready to hand the reigns of his empire over to his eldest son.
But first he must listen to this idiocy first. "The merchandise is very good," one says. He had not bothered to remember their names. "Beautiful women, young women. They will fetch a very high price."
"You won't need to do a thing," the other interjects. "All we ask is for help moving the product. You can keep one if you'd like. And of course we'll give you a generous cut."
The old man lets go a long, unpleasant sigh. "I'm afraid you have the wrong idea," he says gruffly. "I am not interested in such business."
The two men exchange a glance. "But sir, the money—"
"Do you think I am in need of money?" He scowls at them both when Dongfang walks into the room. His eyes dart to his son as he walks over to the bar before looking over his shoulder. "Nanyou, Beiyou," he says sharply. "See that these gentlemen find their way out."
His two generals move in as the men voice protests, but he ignores them and walks over to join his son at the bar. Dongfang picks up a freshly poured glass of what smells like whiskey before nodding to his father. "Did you take their offer?"
"Absolutely not."
Dongfang snorts. "Good. They looked like assholes. Should have thrown them out." He signals the bartender, a young woman whose blouse could use some buttoning up and whose skirt could use an extra inch or two. Dongfang nods towards his father and says, "Make him a drink, will you?"
"That's all right," he says, waving his hand.
The two stand together for a quiet moment as Dongfang finishes his drink. The old man notices how his son steals glances at the bartender and he sighs. "They are potential business partners. I don't like their product but we could use them in the future. So they must be treated as such, even if they are assholes. Shuiyuntian has many friends."
"And enemies," Dongfang mutters.
He looks over his shoulder again and the old man makes a face. "You need to be careful," he admonishes gently. "Women can be both heaven and hell."
"Heaven in bed, hell on my wallet," Dongfang jokes.
His father shakes his head. "I'm being serious. It is time for you to put these things aside. You have responsibilities. You will become head of this family soon and—"
Dongfang interrupts him with a wave of his hand. "Not for a while."
"Even so. You must remember this. Emotions are dangerous. Love, anger, compassion, it will only get you into trouble in the end. You must leave all that behind. The world is a cold and cruel place, and to survive you must be just as cold. Do you understand?"
Dongfang nods. "Good." He taps his son on the shoulder. "Let's go home."
They walk through the cafe to where the car is waiting. It is cloudly outside, rain threatening the afternoon, and the streets are busy with pedestrians running errands. Nanyou steps ahead to open the door of the car, and as Dongfang steps into the street a shot rings out.
He turns to see his father fall, blood covering his face and chest. There is another shot and his arm feels like it has burst into flames. Dongfang stumbles with the sudden pain, grabbing to the car to steady himself. Around them people are screaming, running away from the gunshots, but all he can stare at is his father on the ground, a pool of blood getting steadily larger underneath as his two generals try to put pressure on his wounds.
He takes a step and falls, cracking his head on the curb. He lays on the street and stares at the sky just as a few raindrops begin to fall, making him wince when they splash on his face. Is he dying? It doesn't feel that way, even though everything seems muted and slow. His arm is screaming in pain but Dongfang can barely process it. Where is his father?
A face comes into view and he blinks. Long, dark hair hangs over a shoulder, round face and pink lips, deepset almond eyes. "You're okay, just hang on," she says. There is pressure on his arm and he sucks in a sharp breath. "You're going to be fine."
The rain is growing steadier and he lifts his head to try to look around. But the world swims and a pain shoots through his neck when he tries. The scent of orchids floats by, strange and familiar. "Don't move," the vision says. "You hit your head, and you're bleeding. Just don't move."
"Don't move," he repeats as his eyes close.
===
Five years later, Dongfang sits at a conference table, frowning at the people on the other side. He can spot a fool a mile away, and anger swells at their expressions as the manager explains the details of his portfolio. "We could only recover a third of the assets," he says. "Unfortunately, the investments were not diversified enough. In the future we recommend—"
"You recommend?" Dongfang asks. He swallows his anger, not wanting to show any emotion, keeping his voice and face even. "This investment was entirely your recommendation."
"Yes, but—"
"And the assets that were lost were lost to a company in Shuiyuntian." Dongfang glances between the others. "I made it clear that the Moon family has nothingn to do with Shuiyuntian."
Another investor clears his throat. "Most of the money these days are coming through the city. There is little point in avoiding Shuiyuntian if you wish to turn a profit."
"And yet my orders were ignored. Now we are in this predicament." Dongfang drums his fingers on the table. "I want a full refund, plus five percent interest for my trouble."
"What!" The manager gasps and sits forward in his chair. "That's impossible!"
"I want a full refund and ten percent interest."
The others whisper furiously to each other but the manager scowls. "This conversation is over."
He starts to stand, but from behind Dongfang, Shangque darts around and grabs him by the shoulder, roughly forcing him to sit back down. The manager looks up in alarm but Shingque only stares back, as if daring him to try to leave again. "You can't do this!" he cries.
Dongfang holds up a hand. On his right, Nanyou pulls out a gun and sets it on the table. On his left, Baiyou stands and removes a folder from his bag, sliding it over to the manager.
The man looks nervously at the gun before looking down at the folder. "What is this?"
Dongfang nods towards him. The manager picks up the folder, his hand shaking as he opens it. "I thought when it came to sexual preferences, nothing would surprise me," Dongfang says. He watches with hidden pleasure as the manager's face goes white. "Yet you and your associates here... Well, it's very interesting. I wonder what your spouses would think? Your investors?"
They look around uncomfortably as the manager puts the folder down. "This is blackmail."
"This is business. You promised my family something, and you will deliver." Dongfang stands, buttoning his suit coat. "The stock market opens in less than ten hours. You will have my money by then, or the morning news will have an exclusive."
He does not bother waiting for a reply before heading to the door, leaving Nanyou and Baiyou to sort out the rest. Shangque follows behind, flanking his left side as they reach the elevator. When the doors open, he checks it quickly before stepping aside for Dongfang to enter, and together they ride the car down to the lobby of the building.
Dongfang pulls at his tie, loosening it enough to undo the top button. "Fools," he mutters.
"They will learn not to cross the Moon family," Shangque replies.
With a sigh he shakes his head. "This is all Xunfeng's fault. He made these relationships while I was recovering and now I have to clean up his mess."
The elevator arrives with a ding and the doors open. Shangque leads this time, and Dongfang waits at the door while his guard checks the outside and opens the car door. It is still nerve wracking after all this time to step out into the street like this, a part of him always tense and waiting for a gunshot to ring out. If it was up to him, Dongfang would conduct all his business from his home, where he knows it is safe. But his younger brother had made deals with idiots like this firm during the year Dongfang was hospitalized and then recovering, the agreements still good in many cases despite being wrong for the family business.
His heart is racing as he walks quickly to the car, ducking inside and only letting go a breath when the door slams behind him. The car is bulletproof, an added investment for peace of mind, and he puts his head back on the leather seat as Shangque slips into the passenger seat.
The driver pulls away from the curb and Dongfang feels his breathing start to become even. Fear is one of the many emotions Dongfang has learned to suppress, a lesson his father had tried to teach him but only made sense at his loss. He could have lost himself in the pain of his injuries and the long rehabilitation process, drowned in the grief of losing his father, become overwhelmed with the anger at never knowing who dared assassinate him. Yet they remained locked away, because as he had learned, emotions are a liability. He must act with calculation in a world this cold.
His phone buzzes and Dongfang takes it from his jacket. It’s a video message, and when he opens it a blonde beauty wearing lingerie appears, her smile sultry as she arches her back towards the camera. “Don’t keep me waiting,” she says. “I picked this out for you. Do you like it?”
She gets closer but Dongfang ends the video, sliding the phone back into his pocket. This one is getting too attached, sending him a video like that. How many times has he stressed not to bother him while on business?
He closes his eyes, the world outside muted. Dongfang won't feel truly safe until he is home, and until then he indulges the only thing that helps soothe the anxiety of being in the world beyond his compound. Long hair and pink lips, soft eyes and a lilting voice rise to the surface, the vision as comforting now as it was as he lay dying on the sidewalk.
The fantasy is enough, and never enough. His breathing slows as he pictures her, imagining how the touch of her hand on his cheek would feel, the other pressed to his chest. His lungs tighten and he opens his tie as he takes a shivering breath. Dongfang feels his cock stir, swallowing thickly as he digs his fingers into the leather cushion. Later, when he is finally home, he will indulge the fantasy further. For now she is sitting beside him, her touch on his arm, her breath fanning over his jaw.
No other woman had been able to satisfy him since, the mystery of her overcoming his reason. He had tried to find out who she was, much later, but no one could recall the woman who gave him first aid, some suggesting she was just a figment of his imagination. It's possible, but she had seemed so real; even now, Dongfang feels like he could reach out a hand and touch her soft cheek.
Sweat breaks out on his brow, so Dongfang turns his head and rolls down the window to let in some of the cool air. The car slows to a stop for a red light; he watches people hurrying home, the streetlights reflected brightly against the puddles that dot the sidewalk. The fresh air helps settle his nerves, his eyes closing briefly before fluttering open again. And there, waiting at the light to cross, is the woman of his dreams.

On June 9, Brazil’s People of Okinawa Prefecture Association Youth Division and Urizun Okinawa Prefecture Foreign Exchange Student Trainee OB Association hosted a joint symposium at the People of Okinawa Prefecture headquarters. During the symposium, two young men shared their experiences of overcoming hardship, namely moving to a foreign country at a young age due to their parents’ work and encountering language and cultural differences. A total of 36 people, young and old, attended and gave a round of applause to the two young men who “want to help those in need.”
One of the speakers was 27-year-old Renan Eiji Teruya, who was born in Brazil, but then came to Japan when he was about seven-years-old with his mother, due to his mother’s work. In 2017, he became the first Japanese-Brazilian to pass the bar exam. He is a third-generation Okinawan descendant from Okinawa City. The Urizun Association invited him.
The other speaker was 23-year-old Kevin Ryuji Kuniyoshi who was born in Japan, but moved back to his parent’s hometown Brazil when he was seven-years-old. He’s currently majoring in International Relations at the Federal University of ABC. He is a third-generation Okinawan descendant from Yomitan Village. The Youth Division invited him.
Likewise, 22-year-old Bruna Higa, a third-generation descendant from Kitanakagusuku Village, of the Youth Division acted as the facilitator, while Urizun Association President Luzia Miyuki Teruya, a third-generation Okinawan descendant from Naha City, acted as Mr. Teruya’s interpreter.
The commonality between the two speakers is that they both moved to a foreign country in which they could not speak the local language as a result of moving with their parents. Also, both struggled in school and endured being bullied when they were young.
During junior high school, people around Teruya told him, “You’re stupid, don’t get good grades, and a foreigner, so you can’t become a lawyer.” There was even an instance where a classmate who did not like beans moved them to Teruya’s plate during lunch and said, “Eat more, you Brazillian.”
After being inspired by a TV show he watched in elementary school, Teruya decided to become a “lawyer that helps people.” Becoming aware of his resolve to advance to law school, Teruya’s high school homeroom teacher supported him. Teruya advanced to law school and later passed the bar exam. In college, he became aware that foreigners’ rights are limited, so he wants to be able to support those in need so they do not have to give up on their dreams.
When Kuniyoshi attended the World Uchinanchu Festival, he was inspired by sculptor Minoru Kinjyo’s remark, “You are the bridge between Okinawa and Brasil.” Kuniyoshi spoke of majoring in International Relations and wanting to help foreigners in need after graduating. During the entertainment portion of the symposium, he played the sanshin and performed “Nanyou Kouta” and “Asadoya Yunta.”
