i have this exceptionally dumb AU idea where everyone is a hairdresser and there is no death note and nobody dies but idk what to do with it.

basically in my mind’s eye watari is like vidal sassoon or something instead of being an inventor who inexplicably raises genius orphans & wammy’s is just like. a cosmetology school with a lot of high-profile graduates, including L. L is probably a famous internet hair guy like guy tang or brad mondo or something. you thought L was bad at personal grooming? not anymore. L is the hairdressing king of the internet. he has a bunch of followers and a youtube channel and his own brand of flat irons or hairbrushes or something.

light went to a less prestigious cosmetology school & is like an up and coming hairdressing influencer who is always trying to start shit in the comment section on L’s posts & finding flaws in his hairstyles and color placement or whatever. they are hate boyfriends. ryuk is light’s annoying goth stoner roommate who eats all the oreos and never takes the trash out.

misa is a nebulous egirl internet personality & has been one of light’s clients ever since she got a groupon for his salon a long time ago. she thinks light is the coolest & thinks they are best friends. they are not. misa’s girlfriend rem is in a noise band with light’s terrible roommate ryuk so she is around all the time and light has no choice but to lean into it.

mello is a bad ass hair colorist & matt is an accomplished stylist / barber. they run a really gothy, edgy salon together, are married, and have a baby. despite doing very well for themselves mello has held a 10+ year long vendetta that began in beauty school against:

near, whose portfolio includes runway hairstyling, editorial work for fashion magazines, and celebrity hairdressing. near is an eccentric little man who is very well known but very weird about it. taking one of his classes at a trade show costs like $100000000.

A is one of those hot tiktok barber lesbians & she is completely unhinged. her best friend is B, a nail tech who is equally unhinged & entirely off the grid wrt social media. this is fine bc everyone still knows that you go to his nail salon if you want the most kick ass nails in chicago. naomi is B’s recently divorced, long-suffering roommate who doesn’t do hair & totally wants to get with A. this is a whole thing.

linda does euphoria style makeup tutorials & idk where she fits in here exactly but i love her.

anyway this is all really niche and hyper specific and dumb but i think it’s extremely funny to imagine them all as scuzzy goth hairdressers & internet people so maybe i will write about it someday? who can say!
