how i think mbav characters would react to you asking for their pronouns:
"I use she/her, thanks for asking." She's the only normal one here.

"Well, I'm Jesse, and I go by-" bites your fucking neck

"Uhhhh, she- they- he/him! he/him."
(it's not even that he's in the closet okay he might be but that's not why it's just that he's socially awkward enough to accidentally misgender himself. pronoun circles are hell for him bc his first instinct is to treat it like ice breakers and copy the person before him. one time he got called they/them for like a week because he made the mistake of replying on autopilot. eventually he corrected everyone but the entire time he was like "I sure hope this doesn't awaken anything in me.")
Tumblr media

"My pronouns? 519-341-7831. You'll probably have to write them down to remember them, eh?"

you'll never know. you don't even have the balls to approach her.

he responds with anyone of his self-appointed nicknames. if you ask again he'll go "OHHHH. you can call me ~" and then just names another one off the list. No one knows how to refer to Rory and that's the way he likes it ("vampire ninja will not be perceived"). It also gets people to start using his nicknames, which is a plus. gender euphoria unlocked via being a dumb blond menace.

"She/her. Why? Are you Ethan's friend? Are you gay? Is he gay?"

"How do I know you're not going to use this information to hex me?"

(does not know what pronouns are) "oh, it's pronounced stuh-KOW-skee. with a 'K' sound, not a 'Ch' sound. then it'd be stuh chow skee, and chow is for puppies, and i'm not a puppy, I'm a dog- well, i'm not actually a dog. But if I were, I'd be a dog. like an adult dog. well not like an adult person that's also a dog, but a dog that's grown up. but not like a super big one either that makes you say 'is that a dog fully a dog?' I'd just be like, a man dog. a dog man. wait, that's not what i-"

Kyle's Imaginationland Speech and Its Significance
The Imaginationland Trilogy is something that has a lot of heart and care put into it, as is visible by the overarching and interlocking stories, but nothing is more representative of this as the message it tells at the end of the episodes - Kyle's Imaginationland speech.
The trilogy consistently brings up the question: What is imaginary and what is reality? Upon first look, the answer is obvious to them. Imaginary things are things that are created by people - fiction. Reality is everything you can see and touch. The question is taken literally by the majority of everyone who faces it, but there are philosophical undertones present. In "Imaginationland Episode III” (S11E12), the men in The Pentagon are confronted with a deeper layer of the question: Are accepted realities that cannot be proven real or fake? They squabble over the reality of God, Heaven, and Hell, three prominently weighted topics, trying to understand the morality of the question. The problem with this is that everyone is trying to understand the question in a practical sense when it's not something that can be proven. It does not have a single answer, but rather, is an interpretive question - it's deeper than what it appears at surface level.
Kyle's interpretation of the question was especially heartfelt, and I resonated deeply with it:
"Because I-. I... Um... because I think... they are real. It's all real. Think about it. Haven't Luke Skywalker and Santa Claus affected your lives more than most real people in this room? I mean, whether Jesus is real or not, he... he's had a bigger impact on the world than any of us have. And the same could be said of Bugs Bunny and, a-and Superman and Harry Potter. They've changed my life, changed the way I act on the Earth. Doesn't that make them kind of 'real'? They might be imaginary, but, but they're more important than most of us here. And they're all gonna be around long after we're dead. So in a way, those things are more realer than any of us."
At the end of everything, Imaginationland is an ode to fiction. It's a love letter to OCs everywhere and the impact they've had on people's lives. So many references to different fictional characters were put into this trilogy, and seeing them come together in one place is very sentimental. It really does show the love and care for fiction embodied in these episodes.
There's a quote from Dead Poets Society that I always connect to this episode: "...and medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love - these are what we stay alive for."
Although it was originally said in the context of poetry, it's able to apply to the art of creation as a whole. Artistic media is made from love and passion, and that love and passion is then instilled in the viewer. People create to express themselves and share that with others, and that reigns especially true for fictional characters and worlds. This fiction is important, and just as Kyle said, it lives on longer than any of us. Some of the characters from the episodes are created by people who are long gone, but... their creations stay. Aslan was featured heavily in the trilogy, originally appearing in C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia. Those books were published in the 1950s, the author dying the following decade, but despite being apart from this world, his creations live on. There was a film series derived from the books half a century following their original publishing. A screencap from the movies even continues to make its rounds on the Internet as a meme. Art inspires more art, which then will inspire more art. This is the power of fiction - it never truly dies.
Kyle's speech discusses characters such as Luke Skywalker and Superman, but the obvious is there, unspoken: South Park itself applies heavily to this speech. The show has been on for the past two decades, monumental for a television series, and even being here now, participating in fandom culture, we can't deny that it doesn't have an impact on us. In fact, I would say that those who participate in fandoms and keep the series alive are impacted more heavily than others. I scroll through my dashboard and there are characters everywhere - most, if not all, South Park blogs I see have a character they admire as their icon... and that shows just how much fiction has impacted us. We spend our time discussing and creating art for this show and its characters - we don't have to, we just like to. It's the freedom of creation. So... Kyle's speech isn't only an ode to fiction, but to South Park in itself. How much of an impact will this show have in ten years - twenty? Will it still be known in one hundred years? Honestly, it probably will. As long as there are people who know and acknowledge a piece of art, it lives on.
What and what isn't real - it's not tangible. It lives in our memory and our hearts, and I think that's exactly what Imaginationland and its message is. Santa Claus, Bugs Bunny, and even Kyle himself... they're all real in the sense of the presence and impact they've made on the earth. Reality isn't what you can see, it's what you can feel.

Joyful Experiment, Day #8: "King Edmund Study," charcoal
And they stood looking upon it. Then said King Edmund, "I know not how it is, but this lamp on the post worketh upon me strangely. It runs in my mind that I have seen the like before; as it were in a dream, or in the dream of a dream." - C. S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
(Art diary under the cut)
Tumblr media
This is the reference I was working off. While I would liked to have captured the liveliness of his expression (and a number of other things) much better, this one didn't turn out terrible as a beginner study. He, um, looks a bit like the old Prince Valiant comics from the forties (not a compliment,) but I think a fan of the Narnia movies would be able to recognize the pose and crown, etc. I used cheat markings for distances and a few edges. This particular screencap has been in my files for years, as I have the strangest feeling I'm supposed to steal this actor's face for an original character.
The Narnia books seem both very present and faraway in my mind. They were a tremendous part of my childhood - aside from many rereads, the Radio Theatre dramas were the joy of my heart (my first experience with really good audio drama,) I loved the BBC miniseries and the 1970's animation in spite of their flaws, and in my teens I made cosplays for the releases of the movies. My favourites were The Silver Chair and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
The Narnia stories don't follow me around or stay in my heart the way they do for some who loved them in childhood (LOTR does, though!) Nonetheless, I do have a warmth for them.
This fall I am going to teach a semester-long class for younger students on the Chronicles, with two weeks alloted for each book. It'll be my first reread in a bit (though I think it highly unlikely I have forgotten anything.) I'm a bit like the Doctor - the sheen can sometimes rub off of the things dear to me a little bit, but when I have a companion - or a class of students - to show it to, the wonder revivifies. "And when you see it, I see it." I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing new truth in those dear old children's books.

Hello everyone! This post has been a long time coming and we didn’t really expect to get as much traction as we have, but since we’ve managed to accumulate a few curious folk, we wanted to shed some light on this little AU for some of y’all who have questions but don’t know how to ask. The goal of this post is to answer a few basic questions for folks across the fandoms we tag so that there’s a bit of clarity around what the heck we’re doing here.
So without further ado, let’s begin!
WHAT IS THE WANDERERS OF LIGHT AU?
Wanderers of Light is a crossover au between two Moomin characters and the world of Final Fantasy XIV. It is an AU started by siblings who play two of our favorite fictional siblings going through the main scenario quest (MSQ) together. There is a bit of lore as to how these two started their adventure, but essentially, we're taking Little My and Snufkin from Moomin valley and transport them to Eorzea, Narnia style.
We go through the MSQ together, while also pulling shenanigans on the side. So if you like Moomins x high fantasy adventure setting, have a soft spot for sibling adventures that sometimes get a little TOO adventurous (think saving the world, killing corrupted authority figures, fighting wars, and leading revolutions among other things), or you're a FFXIV player who likes to see what other players are doing with their downtime bc oh look! G-poses, drawings, stories aside from the msq??? If you're any of these things, we welcome your follow and added interest!!
I'M A MOOMIN FAN BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT FFXIV IS, CAN YOU EXPLAIN?
Yeah! So FFXIV is an open world mmorpg where you play as the "Warrior of Light" aka your super customizable main character that can be of any of the playable races who work under any classes of your choosing.
Already lost you? Ok so take Little My, she's a Lalafell who's a warrior class, so she's the smallest race available who swings a big froggin axe! And Snufkin's a Miqot'e bard (but started as an archer!), so he's a cat boy with a bow/arrow and an array of instruments at his disposal.
Tumblr media
(screencap courtesy of our friend, Tristan)
Back on track, as the Warrior of Light (WoL), you start out as an adventurer with the class you've picked in character creation. Depending on how you want to play the game, you can follow the msq where you meet a cast of lovely characters with a storyline that packs some heavy punches in each arc--or as we call expansions, which our pinned posts are made to indicate where we are in the story so as to let people know not to mention spoilers. You can also play the game for completely different goals, like g-posing (essentially playing dolls with your characters and posing them for pretty pictures), pvp fights, Dungeon crawling/Raids with friends and complete strangers, home decoration, crafting up clothes, AND SO MUCH MORE! But for most things available, you have to unlock via msq, so be ready for that!
The community is full of friendly people who LOVE new players!!! Like if you enter a dungeon with a party of strangers and you tell them in the chat that you're new, they will be SO patient and supportive bc generally everyone wants you to have a good time here.
The story of the game revolves around you, the WoL, having time-traveled 5 years into the future from the original upload of the game where a great dragon, Bahamut, destroyed much of the world of Eorzea, and you--along with your friends, the Scions--are helping the land recover and rebuild after the Calamity.
I'M A FFXIV PLAYER AND I THOUGHT YOUR BLOG WAS CUTE, BUT WHAT ARE MOOMINS AND WHO ARE THESE CHARACTERS?
HI!! Welcome! So, I could go on about Moomins, in fact I don't think I could do much justice in a couple paragraphs. But for this au, I can give some brief explanations.
So if you google Moomins, you'll find these little white plump creatures that look so pleasant, right? Those are the titular moomintrolls created by the lovely Tove Jansson in her Moomin novels in the mid-1900s that have since expanded and exploded into a world-wide phenomenon. You have the books as well as the comics Tove and her brother created together, as well as multiple film/tv adaptations of the characters and stories. Some of the most well-known tv depictions are the 1990s anime and the 2010 Moominvalley, but there are also gems in the fuzzy-felt version, other stop-motion, and even live-action adaptations! The Moomin stories cover subject matters regarding love, loneliness and aloneness, family, friendship, growing up, and freedom among other things. It’s definitely something much deeper than what it seems on the surface!
Anyway, as you google the Moomin family, you’ll notice that among their cast of characters, you'll find an angry little girl in red and a polite looking fella in green:
Tumblr media
Those are our siblings! Half siblings, actually, which is why we've given them different races because Snufkin's papa (The Joxter) is often depicted as a cat-like creature, so he mostly takes after him.
Little My is the smallest of mymbles (which is commonly believed to be her race/species type?) who is known to be the mischievous, not afraid to speak her mind, and has an honesty in her that sometimes people don’t want to hear. She's also Snufkin's older sister. Snufkin is the baby younger sibling of the two and arguably the wisest of their friends. He's well-traveled and loves his alone time, but is a friendly fellow to find on the path. Both value their independence but usually make a great team, especially when wreaking havoc together!
END NOTES
So that should be a fair introduction! If you have any questions, we welcome asks and may even draw them out if the mood suits us. But yeah, this is basically a self-indulgent au between us that we wanted to share with the communities here. Hopefully this explains why some of y’all keep seeing them in certain tags, and let us know if you’re interested in either of the content this post has enlightened you about!

Okay so I have this tiny Narnia theory/headcanon based on the movies (specifically the first one)
When they all enter Narnia together, Peter goes to fetch coats he gives one to Edmund who instantly goes "But that's a girl's coat" to which Peter responds "I know"
Tumblr media
(This is from the scene I'm talking about - pic is from pinterest)
Now to my headcanon: how did Peter know where to find a girl's coat so fast? Did he possibly just grab the first ones he saw or had he maybe been in the closet so many times because he believed and loved his younger sister and checked every chance he got and therefor by then knew just where to find a particularly ugly (imo) girl's coat for his brother who had been kind of rude to the beloved younger sister
Idk I just thought it was cute 🤷‍♀️
