tv and film is so formulaic nowadays that seeing spiderverse have a story with authentic-feeling characterisation basically makes me want to cry.

#atsv #like you know how a decent chunk of the movie is dedicated to developing miles' relationship with his parents #and to be honest. the pacing in that part very noticablely slows down from the pace it was at in the first bit with gwen #however #not once was i mad about it #because it was filled to the brim with good shit #also #narratively #it only exists to make the threat of miles losing his dad all the more poignant (and also rio might die next movie so. that too.) #HOWEVER #because of how excellent the dialogue is #and because of the careful foundations laid by the first movie #it doesnt come across as 'obligatory making-you-care-about-miles'-parents scene' #like it absolutely would if it was some netflix original or whatever #do you know what i mean??? once you get to a certain point in ur life its very easy to identify why a scene exists #and so its such a goddamn breath of fresh air to be able to recognise that but not feel exhausted/bored by it #it is the furthest thing from hamstrung and i am so so grateful #atsv spoilers #em is waiting for her spider bite #thunder rambles

Misha Collins / Cas became the scapegoat in terms of relying on him to absorb the full weight of the queer that the entire team, from the other actors to writers to editors knowingly bathed in and narratively wrote to. :)
