Just in case you thought Tombstone was the only classic movie I could recreate or that I only knew Tom Cruise from Top Gun…
Fun Fact: I LOVE Robert Duvall (especially in Lonesome Dove!).
And yes, I know I didn’t kick the door of the car but I don’t think AJ or Andy’s would have been happy with me for doing that.

Don't know if Y'all notice but at a race at Talladega some dude straight up stole the pace car and did a lap around the track at about 100mph before the cops set up a barricade on the track to stop him.
It sounds insane but it's true and I genuinely wonder what kind of guts this guy must have had.
Also did this happen in a humanized version of the Cars universe in anyone's au? I'd love to hear.

1986 Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2
It is often said that racing improves the breed, and the move by Formula One to a hybrid drivetrain has seen the equivalent technology in road cars evolve at an unprecedented pace. Manufacturers will always seek what is commonly called “an unfair advantage,” exploiting the rule book to its outer limits to extract greater speed from their racing models. It was against this backdrop that Pontiac released its 1986 Grand Prix 2+2. It was developed as a homologation special for NASCAR competition and only graced showrooms for one year.
Tumblr media
NASCAR competition has evolved into a sport featuring control underpinnings and exterior panels that are almost identical across all participating brands. Today’s cars share little with their predecessors, and the term “stock car” has a reasonably loose meaning. Earlier generations were based upon showroom models, and it was against this backdrop that cars like the Chevrolet Monte Carlo Aerocoupe and the Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 emerged. General Motors sought aerodynamic and downforce improvements for their participating models, and smoothing the airflow across the body and rear spoiler achieved this without introducing additional drag. Wholesale sheetmetal changes weren’t warranted, but adding a fastback-style back window achieved the goal at a reasonable cost. The cars weren’t the most elegant on the planet, and the reduced trunk opening to accommodate the changes reduced practicality. Still, the Aerocoupe and 2+2 proved effective on superspeedways like Daytona and Talladega. Pontiac released 1,118 examples of the Grand Prix 2+2 to qualify for NASCAR competition, with all finished in a combination of Silver and Gray. The history of this car is unclear, but it presents exceptionally well for its age. The paint retains a healthy shine, while the plastic and graphics are excellent. Dealers sold the 2+2 at a premium price, but the extra cost didn’t guarantee that these classics would lead an easy life. Many owners drove them hard and fast, and it is common to see dilapidated and rusty examples appearing in the classic market. This car has avoided that fate and would turn more heads today than in 1986.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pontiac considered the Grand Prix 2+2 to be a muscle car, although the 165hp and 245 ft/lbs of torque produced by its 305ci V8 doesn’t hint at anything special. Buyers received a four-speed 200-4R automatic transmission and a 3.08 rear end as standard fare, with no manual option to improve performance. The ¼-mile ET of 17 seconds perfectly demonstrates the depths of The Malaise Era. While that figure looks modest by modern standards, it was what buyers expected during that period. The situation would improve in the future, but it is sobering to consider that you can drive a four-cylinder family sedan or hatchback off the showroom floor today that could show this Grand Prix a clean set of heels.
Tumblr media
The Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 was a one-year-only model sold in limited numbers. I don’t find these the most attractive cars on the planet, with Chevrolet achieving better aesthetic results with its Aerocoupe. However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and you might find yourself irresistibly drawn to this classic. I respect that if it is the case because it is a car that would still draw crowds thirty-eight years after it rolled off the line. Evolving racing rules mean we will probably never see similar vehicles in the future, and owning this Grand Prix would be a link to the company’s motorsport heritage.

Human AU headcannon: Doc and Strip were asked to lead the parade lap at a race in their iconic cars (Doc's #51 Hudson Hornet and Strip's #43 Plymouth Superbird). Of course, they say yes and the racing world goes crazy over this.
As the pace car and drivers make their way around the track, Doc starts to get a bit nostalgic. This is technically the first time he’s driven on an actual race track since he left the racing world and even though it’s changed since then, it’s still mostly the same. So Doc decides to relive the good old days and he radios over to Strip and their conversation goes like this:
Doc: Hey Strip, starting feel nostalgic?
Strip: Yeah, a little bit
Doc: What do you say we have a little fun and drag this out for a couple of laps? Kids won’t mind.
Strip: I say that’s fabulous idea. Plus, what’re they gonna do, black flag us?
So as they pass the entrance to pit lane, they don’t get off and they continue to drive around the track. Of course everyone’s confused at first, wondering what’s going on. The parade goes around for another lap and once again, Doc and Strip don’t get off the track. At this point, everyone realizes that they’re doing this on purpose.
Of course no one tells them to get off cause you don’t tell the King and the Fabulous Hudson Hornet to get off the track. And of course, Doc and Strip are having the time of their lives and the crowd is enjoying it as well and even cheers them on.
Although a couple of drivers yell at Lightning and Cal over the radio and tell them to tell their crew chiefs to get off the track. Lightning and Cal of course say no cause 1.) they can’t communicate with them and 2.) they’re the King and the Fabulous Hudson Hornet
So as they come around the finish line again, the Piston Cup officials give both veteran drivers the black flag and at that point, Doc and Strip decide that they’ve had their fun and the next time they come to pit lane, they get off the track and the race begins with the two veterans back in their crew chief positions.
Fun fact: This is based off of a real event. Richard Petty (Strip’s VA) did the exact same thing at a race at Darlington back in 2017. He was asked to lead the parade lap in his iconic #43 and I guess he got a little nostalgic and decided to have some fun and stayed out on the track for a couple of laps. He did get off after the NASCAR officials black flagged him. Honestly, if he could, he probably would've raced with them.

The sound of the speeding cars are quick and goes unnoticed by the drivers on the track, men and women on the side roaring as the watch them go. The drivers' hands steady on the wheels of their cars as the smell of burning tires passes each car.
Billy Loomis is a Nascar driver with a car that glows dusky blue and white. He's number 96 and sponsors a manufacturing company; Benchmade.
"Last lap, Loomis" A wave of relief washes over him as one of his peers just gave him the last lap notice. He smiles smugly under his helmet, Billy Loomis is still in the lead. Billy The announcer's mic makes a buzz— it always had, it's a known giveaway for when he's about to say something.
"On track, we're on our last lap and it looks like our annual winner, number 96 from Benchmade their driver Billy Loomis is going to pull through with number 17, Monster energy driver Stu Macher right behind him! We've seen these two race each other for- wait-" Billy's heart dropped as the announcer started stumbling over his words. Was Stu about to pass him? Billy turned his head from side to side.
He didn't see Stu's car picking up pace, instead, there was a car he hadn't recognized before. It's orange with red outlining.
"Looks like number 11, sponsoring Firestone, driver Sidney Prescott is catching up! Passing number 17!" Billy breathes slowly, to only exhale angrily and stomp on the accelerator. The announcer's rambling mixes with his peer's shouting voice. He leaves the two cars behind and exhales shakily when he hears the announcer's voice once more. "Benchmade for the win!" Sweet, sweet, victory.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Billy steps out of his car and white butterflies cover his faded blue helmet stuck with stickers. He takes his helmet off of his upset face and tucks it under his arm as he slams his car door shut. He was pissed. Stu was quick to catch up to the brunet's fast pace, following him closely behind.
"D'ya see the chick?" Stu decided to ask a follow-up question, really seeing Billy's gears grinding.
"That was no chick. It was some cocky ass fucker." Steam blowing out of his ears and his face a little red like a fucking cartoon character.
"Check it, Loomis." Stu points at a slim figure who is a couple of feet away from the two. A girl with long brown hair and a Firestone Nascar suit, the color the same as the firey orange car that tried passing him. "That's a chick if I ever seen one." Billy swatted Stu's hand away and walked off to meet her. His face is cold when he walks up behind her, like predator stalking prey.
"Nice stunt out there." Billy teased as he walked around her, getting a nice view of her face. She showed a stern face with beautiful brown eyes. He smiles at her Don't be afraid to let your guard down. he thought as his grin widened and her face softened. She smiled and tucked her long hair behind her ear, glancing down.
"You were quick to react." She hummed a laugh and looked back up to Billy. "You're Billy, Billy Loomis, right?" She stuck out her hand and struck something in Billy. He clasped his hand with Sidney's and shook it firmly before letting go.
"Yes. You're Sidney, yeah? Pretty name." Sidney nodded.
"Thanks, I'll see you around Loomis." She walked past him, letting her hand rub his shoulder before she disappeared behind him. He stood still for a while, not looking back. Sidney was different; Sidney was a threat.

hello hazel! first time watching the indy 500 yesterday and i just found it so strange and uncomfortable how all of the commentators were speaking about santino ferrucci. i didn’t follow the junior series till recently and even i found out about how much of a bad person he is.
everyone was actively rooting for him to win and i think i just kept muttering to myself “he’s a raging racist” the whole time and every time i thought they would stop, they would just bring him up again.
honestly, if they don’t care about what he did then maybe don’t vocalize that you’re ok with it? and anyone that says well maybe he’s changed, this guy has openly said he doesn’t regret what he did.
i don’t know, i just found the whole thing so bizarre because i didn’t realize that he was actually well liked in indycar for some reason.
cn: racist bullying, generally being an arsehole
so for anyone who doesn't have the context for this: in 2018 Santino Ferrucci was America's hot new Formula 1 prospect, signed to Haas as a junior and competing in Formula 2 with ehhhh I guess. some results. he'd scored points for Trident, which isn't a frontrunning team but good drivers have taken the car to wins.
his teammate was Arjun Maini, who during the French round gave one of the most desperate-sounding, saddest radio messages you've ever heard, sounding close to tears and begging "I swear you guys don't support me at all" and saying no one believed him about his car's performance.
at the time it was extraordinary but maybe didn't ring the right alarm bells. the F2 car was very tricky for teams to manage and even Maini's explanation, that parts were failing and he was losing pace compared to his teammate, more accused the championship of having a shoddy car than anything else.
Ferrucci didn't exactly seem nice. but then there was a battle at the front of the 2018 field between Russell, Albon and Norris that was fairly distracting so someone picking up the odds point finish wasn't getting too much press scrutiny.
then it gets to Silverstone and things explode. Maini is clearly miserable and at the end of the sprint race (which then was after the feature race, so this is Sunday) Ferrucci comes out of fucking nowhere and crashes deliberately into Maini on the in-lap. he's banned for four races for being a weapon and then it all starts coming out.
Trident apologise to Maini, who it turns out was totally right that his car was essentially being sabotaged by Ferrucci and was also being subjected to racist bullying by Ferrucci and his father. Ferrucci's also dropped for non-payment, in a statement that basically says we couldn't wait to find a legal way to get away from this asshole.
Haas bin him at the same time and that looks like the end of this wanker who adds 'texting while driving a racecar' and 'trying to run a MAGA livery' to his list of misdemeanours all over the course of the same weekend.
he does a bit more postural nonsense including claiming he can't be racist because he's Italian and then seems to go away. until 2019 when he turns up in IndyCar as darling of the year. I don't watch a lot of IndyCar but it was to pretty much everyone's dismay to find this dude being gassed up from the start and given opportunities to put his "behavioural incidents" behind him without any regret.
idk how much he actually changed even on an operational level within teams cus he did get binned out of Indy for a bit to NASCAR, which actually has a pretty strong anti-racism and anti-asshole thing going on so unsurprisingly he didn't last there. now he's back in Indy being gassed up as the next great American dream by anyone with a microphone and I can't tell you what the Penske corporation sees in him but it's always been this way since he rocked up there.
some of it is a bit of 'well screw Europe and their whiny moralism we're backing our boy' kind of thing but like. this wasn't 'oh no you don't have the correct experience of our intricate continental racing' this was 'fuck off, you racist non-payer who held a team ransom while abusing your teammate, along with your garbage dad.' I guess someone always has to be the worst cousin at the barbecue and like so often, they're the one with the sports medals lately.

Twisting and turning in her bed, she cursed her mind. It would never shut up when she needed it to. Thoughts raced through her mind like cars in a NASCAR race. The lights were out and she was all alone.
Huffing in irritation, she threw the blankets off of her and ambled to the kitchen. Grabbing a glass, she wondered where her boyfriend was. Looking at the green digital clock on the stove, she saw that it was much later than he was usually out.
Ever since they moved in together Matt had always tried to make it home earlier. Often times she couldn’t sleep without him. She usually called him her personal teddy bear.
She sat down on the couch and watched the stairs. Matt should be home any second now. He’s going to be okay. He’s talented beyond belief and has made several promises to always come back home to her.
Biting her nails, she wonders if he got hurt. He did once tell her that he got left in a dumpster to die. What if that is where he is now? What if he’s in the alleyway by the apartment, too weak to make it up the stairs? What if he is silently hoping that she will come down to help him?
Cursing under her breath, she slips her sandals on and scurries down the stairs. She doesn’t even bother to change out of her pyjamas. If Matthew is hurt, that is the last thing she should worry about.
It was still damp outside due to the rain that had just fell. There were a few people ambling the streets along with some cars passing by. It is the city that never sleeps, after all.
Checking in both alleyways next to the apartment complex, she didn’t find her boyfriend. She didn’t know if she should be relieved or even more worried. On one hand, he wasn’t bleeding out whilst she was being useless up in the apartment, but on the other hand, he could be bleeding out in an alleyway somewhere blocks away.
Shivering, she notes that she probably should have at least thrown on a sweatshirt. The wind nips at her skin as she makes her way back into the building.
Whilst climbing the stairs, a brief thought passes her. What if he was out with some other girl? She knows that he’d never do that to her, but what if? After all, she’s not all that amazing of a girlfriend. Even if Matt can’t see her, he surely knows that she’s ugly. She has too much fat in all the wrong places. She has too much anxiety and struggles a lot with mental health problems.
He could do so much better.
She paces back and forth, stress gnawing at her brain. He’d be better off without her. What if he’s injured? She can’t deal with needles so he always has to do it himself. Maybe he could find someone pretty that also wasn’t given the heebie jeebies with needles.
She didn’t even hear him come in. Although that could be attributed to the fact that he is so quiet on his feet.
He could hear her steps back and forth and back and forth. Her heart was beating fast and he could tell she had been at it a while.
He knew she struggled with anxiety and felt horrible that his vigilante act had gone longer than usual. She must have been worried if he was okay.
“Baby?” Matt questions, taking his Daredevil mask off. He heard her spin on her feet and her heart skipped a beat.
“Matt,” she breathed out. She wanted to run up to him and wrap him in an embrace and never let go. But she couldn’t get those pesky thoughts out of her mind.
“I’m okay, sweetheart. I’m sorry I’m late. There was a lot going on and I couldn’t get away.”
She nodded, wrapping her arms around herself. He could easily be lying to her. She didn’t have the ability to tell if his heart was beating any faster. It wouldn’t be the first time one of her boyfriends had lied to her.
“Are you okay?” Matt questions, moving closer to the love of his life; his everything.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just tired.”
He frowned, not even needing to hone into her heartbeat to tell that she was lying. “What’s wrong?”
She huffed, hating that he could read her so well. It wasn’t fair that he knew everything about her whilst she could never even discern what his mood was. It was dumb. She hated it so damn much. “I’m fine,” she grumbled, moving to go to the bed.
“Stop lying to me.”
She rolled her eyes that were filling with tears. “Why? Why can you lie whilst I can’t?”
Matt furrowed his brows, taken aback. Lying? When did he lie? “What?”
“Just admit it, Matthew. You could do better than me. You probably just didn’t want to have to come home to deal with my annoying clingy self. Admit it! You don’t want me anymore and that’s why you come home later every night. You’re tired of staying up with me because I can never fall asleep and you hope if you stay out longer I’ll be asleep.”
Matt was speechless.
How could she think such things? Had he not done enough to show her that she was his whole world? How could she doubt herself? She is perfect. Too good to be true.
“What makes you say that?” His throat was dry. Was this her way of breaking up with him? God, he hoped not. He didn’t know what he would do without her.
“Don’t play dumb with me Matty. I’m.. I’m just me… and you’re you. You deserve better than me,” she pouts, plopping down to sit on the bed.
“Baby, you’re crazy if you think that I could ever find someone better than you. You’re perfect and I’m so sorry that I haven’t done enough to prove that to you.”
She sniffles as he moves to hold her on the bed. His gentle caresses immediately make her feel at least a little better.
He gives her a gentle kiss on the forehead before saying, “get some rest. I’ll be here when you wake up, yeah?”
She nods, curling into his chest and yawning. Matt holds her the entire night, occasionally giving her small kisses. He’d do anything to prove her worth. He’d make her see. She is his everything. And he’d never give her up for anything.

National NASCAR Day
Rev your engines for NASCAR! The high-speed thrills, heart-pumping action, and fierce competition make for an unforgettable experience. So strap in and hold on tight, it's going to be a wild ride!
With thrilling competition and a great deal of risk, race car driving is a sport that is not necessarily for the faint of heart. But to those participants and fans of NASCAR racing, it’s worth it all for the possibility of winning the race.
Now it’s time to start those engines and get ready to watch those stock cars fly around the racetrack because NASCAR Day is here!
History of National NASCAR Day
When car enthusiasts from all over the country began gathering in Daytona, Florida in the 1930s to participate in and watch stock car races, the rules and prizes were not standardized. In 1948, Bill France, Sr. and a group of others formed a governing body called the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing or NASCAR. The organization led their competitions to eventually become one of the most popular spectator sports in the United States, as well as a multi-billion dollar industry in Canada, Mexico and Europe.
The first NASCAR Day was celebrated in 2003 when it was founded by the NASCAR Foundation to raise awareness for stock car racing while also raising funds to help children with their medical needs. The organization supports two different non-profit foundations, the Speediatrics Children’s Fund and the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award.
NASCAR Day is a special race day set aside on the third Friday in May where spectators can not only see a race but also participate in the event. Meet-and-greets with drivers, bumper-to-bumper races, raffles and many other activities take place. In addition, a Give-A-Thon is scheduled for the day so that people can make donations to benefit the health of children in their communities.
How to Celebrate National NASCAR Day
Enjoy the fun and excitement of NASCAR Day, whether celebrating from home or heading all the way to Daytona! Participate in the enjoyment with some cool ideas of your own, or get started with some of these:
Attend a NASCAR Race
The perfect way to celebrate NASCAR Day would be to head over to a race track and enjoy the sights and sounds of a speedy stock car race! The excitement is contagious and the crowds can get an exhilarating glimpse of these amazingly fast NASCAR races, live and in person. Plus, there should be extra activities and events in honor of NASCAR Day, such as raffles, games and other fun events.
Can’t seem to get out to see a race in person? That’s okay! Plenty of NASCAR races are broadcast on television and through online sports channels.
Make a Donation to the NASCAR Foundation
The purpose of the NASCAR Foundation is to help kids who are in need of medical care. One excellent way to participate in the purpose of the day could be to make a difference in the life of a child by making a donation. It’s easy to brighten a sick child’s day by donating a Speedy Bear or even donating an old vehicle that can help provide support to children in the racing communities.
