I watched it and I liked it. The build-up was the best part of the story. I wondered what was actually going on. I made guesses, some of which were right, and most were wrong.

However, after the revelation was made - of who Walt truly was - the movie just enters the underwhelming zone. Like someone said on IMDB, the ending felt a bit rushed which I agree with and understand why it was.

Maybe the director wanted to spend more time making us ponder on what exactly is going on. Maybe.

I would give it a 6/10. The ending was a mess but the beginning and the middle were phenomenal.

So a friend suggested I watch The Invitation.

While I'm mad it took me so long to guess the twist, I'm glad this film was made. We got a beautiful gothic horror with a women of colour as the lead. Natalie Emmanuel is gorgeous.

While I had my theories for what was going on, the film needed something more to it. Evie gave in too easily in my opinion and she really should have been more suspicious of her new family. Not even 24 hours pass and one apology convinces her that Walter is good? BTW, this film take space over what feels like 1 weekend.

In regards to sex, Walter is portrayed as FAR too stoic in my opinion. (And this is coming from someone on the ace spectrum). The films shows an ass shot of Victoria, yet Walter who is Whore Number 1 isn't exactly depicted as an object of desire for Evie. Don't get me wrong, Thomas Doherty is beautiful in every shot, but... For when you find out who he actually is... I expected more.

I did not watch the trailer or see any synopsis of the film so I felt a bit dumb for having not put the pieces together in time. It was quite a clever script with all the breadcrumbs leading up to the big reveal. Genuinely not sure why it got such bad reviews. The film was good.
