sensory overload solidarity

how many of us looked at Dolores and said "this young woman needs some noise-cancelling headphones" ?!

and we know that Bruno often gets overwhelmed by both the content and the experience of his visions.

i figure Dolores always had solidarity w her uncle: even in the "we don't talk about Bruno" song, hers is the only empathetic verse! because she also has a gift that is mostly unpleasant for her and isn't seen as that useful to the family either.

the top pic and first closeup have custom Bruno doll next to the mostly not customized* sisters and Antonio, in a doll-size garden of mostly potted succulents and a few trees

*well, when i say mostly...

basic Luisa is going to get articulation but i haven't started.

Mirabel has had a head-swap (disneystore deluxe body/outfit plus basic doll head)

disneystore Isabela has a different outfit as a stand-in for her end of movie dress that i am going to try to approximate. (this is one of my favorite doll dresses ever though; i think it's by @dollsahoy?)

basic Antonio is on a Creatable World body with Bratz-boy shirt? i think? that reminded me of a guayabera like his dad wears. and the legs need shortening so i put him kneeling next to his animal friend. he also got a cat ears headband because i think he would like that.

i have them in the Villa Blinovitch patio because it was handy. Isabela (and my husband, who is nonfictional but from a different part of the country than the story setting) should forgive me if the plants are all wrong for that region of Colombia.

BRUNO (2nd closeup) process:

used the Marvel Rising América Chávez doll (if you want one, or 2, they are only 10$ on amazon right now: 6 feb 2022) as a base and sculpted a new nose, brow, and eyes with heatmold plastic. painting is done w the usual vallejo acrylic colors and washes. he has the same haunted and bug-eyed look as the animation character, although the face shape isn't quite right.

his hands are FR male hands which just happened to have the right size pegs!

his purple pajama top i got from https://www.ebay.com/str/kolkmankreations ... and i made his ruana myself out of a cloth dinner napkin that i bought special. it is harder than you would think to find nice green striped textured cotton!!

it is also harder than you would think to sew a thing that only involves rectangles (well, at least if you failed plane geometry and are crap at sewing jaja)

he is eating bandeja paisa (which probably didn't exist in the 50s oops) made from polymerclay by my great dollbuddy @bellejanewednesday and i also made him a green mal de ojo pendant cos i don't think you can break a habit like over a decade of being superstitious that fast.

he’s a heavily modded older disney store jasmine head on an unknown brand teenage size action figure body. i chose that body because i wanted him to be about the same height as mirabel. the hands didn’t come w that body but unsure where they did come from.

i did the sculpting with heatmold plastic and the painting with vallejos acrylics

i did have a previous version on this head where i didn’t change the eyes from the original sculpt but it just didn’t look anything like the character. he needs specifically to have his eyes very close together...

his hair got curled with chenilles and boiling water after the face was done, which is backwards to usual but worked out ok

he’s wearing the same ruana i sewed for my first try, over a justin bieber doll shirt and barbie pants from an ebay seller. his sandals were from a middle eastern civilian action figure (i forget which… i bought them parted out)

the bandeja paisa he’s eating is made by @bellejanewednesday in polymer clay. his coffee cup and talisman necklace are both charms off aliexpress.

pepa is a mc2 head on a barbie mtm body with dress from www.etsy.com/shop/Shesewsbytheshore , people earrings, barbie necklace, and RH junior shoes. i curled her hair but i have not yet repainted her… i probably will do a small paint enhancement to make her eyebrows and her eyeshadow a little stronger…

i felt like she needed SFX on these photos so i added it with the picsart website ;)

félix is another great headsculpt by my encanto 3d buddy at www.etsy.com/shop/3DPrintedGifting ! i painted him up pretty simply, and added faux-fur fabric hair. i have had his shirt for ages -- @dollsahoy of course!

félix' body was a whole drama because i had to shorten his legs by more than an inch and those old playline star wars figures are REALLY FRIKIN STURDY. i managed it AND gave him thigh rotation, though, so i am proud. will have to show him dancing one day to show it off :D

finally, made a happy bruno!

this is after the movie but he still likes to hang out in his old room sometimes when the family's noise and chaos become too much ... so here he is having a nice quiet breakfast with the rats.

ordered a 3D printed head from the very patient https://www.etsy.com/shop/3DPrintedGifting , painted it up (with a lot of trial and error) and more or less the same outfit i had put together for my previous bruno attempts.

"and you, old chap, i trust you've been well?" (actually, three has reason to worry, as d!m is looking a bit pale and thin)

"it has been... an awfully long time" (d!m has his hands up to his mouth, trying not very successfully to suppress his emotions)

then he just reaches out (three probably thinks they're about to get strangled but instead...) he holds their face tenderly with his gloved hands and then pulls the doctor into a tight embrace.

three hugs him back, once the shock subsides.

they lean into each other, three's lips on delgado's brow, both doctor and master are saying many things telepathically that they cannot bring themselves to speak aloud.

they sit down, the master taking three's hand in both of his. "do tell me all about your adventures"

"no need for haste, old chap. i thought perhaps i might stay for good this time." they put their hand on the master's.

"i should like that, doctor."

very happy to finally receive the 3rd doctor figure from BCS! due to covid there were so many delays, which added a lot of feeling to this reunion story.
