Don’t forget, Sea Hawk is also apparently Asian. I also thought Frost might be Asian at first bc she kinda looks… maybe stereotypical isn’t the exact word, but just like what comes to mind when you think of a little Asian girl. Not to mention, she was originally designed as a white (Nordic coded?) teenager for this show before they decided to age her down into the little sister character. Never mind the fact the little sister character already existed in the old series with Glimmer and Allegra, and they could have done something with that, but I digress. I’ve also seen some people say Angella is Indian coded, because of the accent and her voice actress. Or maybe it’s because they think her gem is reminiscent of a bindi?
But yeah, idk about Perfuma, Entrapta, or Spinnerella. I think Perfuma could be latina because if the actress? But the character gives off the vibes of such a essential oils Karen that I associate with entitled white women, to the point I think she might just be a tanned white woman? Though I’ll admit, when I first saw her design I considered black and white biracial, and I considered Pacific Islander. So I have no idea. I’ve also seen some people interpret Entrapta as black. Though, I doubt it based on the hair alone. I like to think she’s latina, simply because I want her as my Latin rep, and not the literal cat. As for Spinnerella, I got nothing. Maybe white? All I know is that Huntara should have been black, and isn’t even coded as black. And I think that’s dumb, because I would have loved buff, queer, gets-a-character-arc Grace Jones in this show, since we didn’t get to have it in the old one.
Okay, hold on. I had no idea Sea Hawk was apparently half-Asian. I had to look this up. It was "confirmed" (as in, on Twitter) by the lead character designer for SPOP, who also "confirmed" Scorpia as half-Asian as well. However, I'm pretty sure Frosta is supposed to be Inuk like Katara, but I don't think that was ever confirmed. I could be wrong. I'm not even sure where her kingdom is located, for that matter. The worldbuilding in SPOP sucks so badly I barely remember how the kingdoms were like, save for Perfuma's and maybe Mermista's.
Idk, man. I honestly don't think that much about most characters' ethnicities, because the SPOP crew clearly didn't put a lot of thought into it. I mean, the literal cat teenager who licks herself, who walks on fours, who bites and claws people, who hisses and hates water, and who's sexualized on top of it all, is supposed to be Latina. Or Iranian or Middle Eastern, because apparently OG Catra came from "Purrsia", which is like... the Persian Empire? And fans really want to apply that to the reboot, too. Except Catra's origins were never brought up in SPOP, only that Catra was found abandoned in a cardboard box according to Nate. Regardless, neither theories are great because both Latinas and Iranian women (and Middle Eastern women in general) are not treated like people. They're sexualized and are victims of colonization. I've heard people headcanon Catra as Indigenous, too. Which is even worse considering she got her hair cut against her will.
As for the other characters... I just don't care, lmao. I will agree that Huntara should've been black, too. But since the SPOP crew didn't care about developing their kingdoms and their origins, then I don't think that hard. I mainly mention and dissect "Latina" Catra because the fandom won't shut up about her. Idk about Entrapta's ethnicity, but if Latina Entrapta makes you happy, go for it. Especially because Latin America is pretty diverse, so there are a lot of possibilities.
I don't agree with the term Karen, though. I get what you mean, that Perfuma is annoying and ableist and treats other people like garbage, but sadly that's another term that actual misogynists use against any women who get angry. But I know that's not your intention, I get where you come from.

SDRE (Self-Titled) LP2
Sunny Day Real Estate is the second studio album by American rock band Sunny Day Real Estate. The band's label, Sub Pop, distributed the album under the title LP2. Due to its simple pink cover, the album is often referred to as "The Pink Album". It was the band's final release to feature founding bassist Nate Mendel until their single "Lipton Witch", released in 2014 after their third breakup.
The album was remastered and reissued in 2009, with bonus tracks and newly written liner notes.[5] The bonus tracks are "Spade and Parade" (originally a B-side of the song "Friday") and "Bucket of Chicken" (released as a B-side to the song "How It Feels to be Something On").[6]
The album is entirely covered in pink, with the band's name across the cover in small type, and doesn't include any liner notes. The cover's simple design and nickname is a reference to The Beatles' eponymous 1968 double album, known as "The White Album". This album was released in November 1995, several months after the band's first break-up.
"8" and "Friday" were re-recorded for the album. Both songs had been recorded and released previously on 7-inch singles. The final track, "Rodeo Jones", was recorded during the sessions for the previous album, Diary, and was previously released as a b-side on the "In Circles" promo single. In addition, "8" is featured on the Batman Forever soundtrack.
In November 1995, Sub Pop released the band's second album, bearing only the label Sunny Day Real Estate. The album was released without cover art or liner notes, and was distributed by Sub Pop as LP2. It has also occasionally been referred to as "The Pink Album", a reference to its solid pink cover. When Sub Pop contacted the band for artwork for the release, the band had nothing to offer, so Goldsmith suggested that they "make it pink". The album included the songs recorded during the brief sessions, as well as tracks such as "Rodeo Jones" that were recorded during the sessions for Diary.
Enigk confessed in an interview in December 2008 that because the band had already broken up during the recording of LP2, he and Hoerner never sat down to complete the lyrics; "We broke up and we just felt like we were done. We put no energy into the artwork or into anything. On a lot of songs, there aren’t lyrics! In a lot of cases, we never sat down to write them, because we just wanted to get it out of the way as fast as possible. So I just sang a lot of gibberish, which makes it really quirky. My favorite is the Japanese translations".[7]
"Red Elephant" was ranked at number 44 on Spin's "The 95 Best Alternative Rock Songs of 1995" list.[8]

All My Ships
(with some added context sometimes)
Claire Kincaid x Jack Mccoy (Law and Order), tbh this was the first relationship I saw that made me have butterflies and squealy feelings after something bad happened to me, and made me think about entering another relationship some day. They just had this chemistry and the looks they gave each other, i hate it was never officially confirmed expect maybe in like season 9, but tbh I've never watched past a bit of season 7 cause Claire was my OG, my fashion inspo, my raison d'être.
Sybil Crawley x Tom Branson (Downton Abbey), the way they killed her off, absolutely heartbreaking I've never managed to fully watch that episode again. They deserve to be happy in Ireland with all the babies they want and her career, with the perfect husband who backs her up whenever.
Hermione Granger x Fred Weasley (Harry Potter), I can't even remember why I started liking these two, it was so long ago probably came across a fanedit or a fic by accident. I just love the funny one and serious one matching, and finding that they're actually more similar than you think. But a PSA to everyone interested in this ship, writers sometimes don't say if Fred lives or dies in their fics and getting to the end thinking these sweet characters who love each other are going to get through this with the author being pretty unclear about the final battle only to be hit with "it's been two months since Fred's death" BOOOO!!!
JJ x Spencer Reid (Criminal Minds), specifically in fics where she doesn't get in a relationship with Will, or it doesn't get to the point where they have Henry, not a huge fan of the honorary uncle/aunt then becoming the kid's stepparent trope. I also don't like to watch the show much anymore bc I worked in that field and when it's real on your desk everyday, watching that mixed with the sappy family stuff (also garcia, not a fan) is not enjoyable anymore.
Ellie Bishop x Nick Torres (NCIS), thank god a lot of their episodes were after Abby left, no offense to Abby lovers but dear god she's pushing 50 at the end, act like it??? I think I'm just into hot people bantering with each other.
Keeley Jones x Jamie Tartt or Roy Kent (Ted Lasso), we only saw J&K together at the beginning when he was more of a prick, but the new and improved Jamie I think could be a good match bc they have similar personalities. I liked Roy and Keeley together, they were really different but a lot of what each other needed. I loved pretty much everybody in that show, except Nate. Nate can go fuck himself.
Emily Rhodes x Aaron Shore (Designated Survivor), ok maybe it is just workplace romances, these guys had some banter, on opposite sides of issues, but why did the writers decide nah we're just playing she's going with Seth, no real buildup on that.
In summary: Workplaces romances, or romances that occur when two people are forced to be in the same environment. I've never had an office fling, all the men were way older than me and in much higher positions, the few that weren't yeah no thanks, or like a summer camp forced encounter thing but I live vicariously through these people having to be professional in public and absolutely smitten in private and seeing it melt through. I'm also sucker for the guy loves her more and realizes before she does.
These aren't all the ships I've liked in my life. I was in middle school during this site's most infamous shipping thing, can you guys guess what I was reading on my phone after I was supposed to be asleep? Here's an abridged list of some of the ships I've liked over the past 10ish years doing this: Sherlock/John Watson, Destiel, Doctor(10)/Rose, Dan/Phil, and those are just the really big ones that made it through the preteen fugue state, I do get a mini heart attack every time someone in my day-to-day life mentions any of these expect doctor who.

Company of Heroes (2013)
Tumblr media
To anyone who ever thought the idea of a Call of Duty or Counter Strike movie might be cool, I present the 2013 adaptation of Company of Heroes. The plot is the definition of generic - basically a checklist of war movie clichés. You don’t care about the characters, you don’t care about the action. Even if the film had ambitions to do more, the budget wouldn't allow it. This is the kind of movie you forget minutes after having finished it.
Near the end of World War II, a squad of American soldiers stumble upon a dying messenger who informs them of a critical mission. The Germans are finalizing the design of an atomic bomb. With their sergeant and most of the company dead, Nate Burrows (Chad Michael Collins) and Dean Ransom (Tom Sizemore) make their way towards the Nazi base.
There is only one interesting scene in all of Company of Heroes. A woman named Kestrel (Melia Kreiling) is about to step into the bathtub and turns to face Nate. The door is open. He’s surprised to see her. She gives him a look. What’s going to happen next? Will she invite him in? If she does, will he accept her invitation? He says he has two sweethearts at home… does he want to make it three? Then the scene ends. That’s it. Is it the nudity that makes this scene exciting? Not really (unless you’re 13). It’s the unknown. You don’t know what’s going to happen next, which is a breath of fresh air. The rest of this film is so predictable, so generic it’s practically a wartime lullaby.
This movie is a bore. The story is realistic - it’s not like Overlord, for example - so you know the Germans will not develop that super weapon. What you’d normally be worried about instead are the characters. Will Ransom make it alive and live up to the memory of his dead father who died in the first Great War? Will Burrows forgive himself for all the lives lost under his command? Even if these tales could hold your interest, the casting makes it impossible. Every soldier looks the same and the camera shakes so much it’s often hard to tell who’s shooting at who. The establishing shots are dreadful and the characterization almost non-existent. You’ll see a soldier fall over dead and think someone important just keeled over but no, it was some random nobody you didn’t even know was there too.
I don’t even think people who consider World War II to be “their favourite” war would enjoy this film… unless they were Americans blinded by patriotism. Most of the people we meet are stereotypes, from the burly Russian (Dimitri Diatchenko) to the gritty Brit (Vinnie Jones) to the slimy-looking Nazi commander with the metal brace on his leg (Richard Sammel). Over and over, the film exaggerates America’s role in the war to the point where - shocker - we learn the Nazis are planning on dropping their atomic bomb… on New York! Why a city overseas instead of a much-closer target like say… London? Because this movie thinks you’re a moron that won’t care about anything outside of the U.S.A.
The special effects are unconvincing but this flaw might’ve been forgivable had the rest of the picture been strong. Thing is, no writer would ever commit their good war story to a video game when just about any generic plot would do the trick. That’s why this film was basically doomed from the start. Company of Heroes has no opinion about the war, it has nothing to add to the conversation, it doesn’t have any new perspectives or a new story to tell. It has no reason to exist except to cash-in on a name. It’s a sure-fire way to make you fall asleep and little else. (May 1, 2020)

OSHA Relations Committee Article in 2023 Tower Times Volume 2
The OSHA Relations Committee reelected me, Justin Miller, Vice President of ET Tower, LLC & Business Development Executive for Ontivity, as the 2023 Chairman of OSHA Relations.
“I am proud to serve the OSHA Relations Committee. I am very grateful to have such an amazing group of people to help provide a continuing source of information to NATE members and the telecommunications industry regarding OSHA, industry standards and best practices to enhance safety, reduce incidents, and deliver a platform for a more effective workforce.” - Justin Miller
NATE Director of Safety, Health & Compliance, Kathy Stieler provided the committee with an update on NATE’s pursuit to have a seat on the ANSI/ASSP A10 Committee. We are awaiting the A10 committee response.
Don Doty provided the committee with an update on ANSI/ASSP A10.48 revisions. Over 120 comments were submitted to the A10.48 Committee. Comments are being addressed and progress is being made as quickly as possible.
JP Jones and I provided the committee with updates on the NATE-OSHA-FCC Partnership (OSP), the OSP Steering Team has developed three task teams.
Data & Research Task Team – is tasked with creating buckets to collect and articulate the data for analytics and mining of data that has been submitted.
Editing Task Team – takes information from the data and research task team and drafts Hazard Recognition Icons and further defines the purpose of the icon.
3. Communication Task Team – is tasked with the public distribution means and methods, along with the design of the icons for what it looks like, color, fonts, graphic art, etc.
The current task is to develop an Energy Wheel of Hazard Recognition Icons, within the Hazard Recognition Icons we will establish STCKY “Stuff that can kill you” to help bring the communication industry a well-defined training tool to enhance safety and improve data collection in the future.
NATE STAR Initiative data was reviewed, and plans are being developed on how to better educate and inform the NATE members with guidance and best practices to enhance safety programs. We highly encourage all NATE members to complete the application for the NATE STAR Initiative Program. We have complied the 2021-2022 data for our NATE members to help provide transparency of the data collected.
The committee will also be taking NATE’s Industry Standards, Regulations & Safety Resources Document and assigning the part number section from the NATE STAR Initiative Audit form and correlating back to which industry standards and regulations better guide the employers and the auditors.
OSHA Relations has also developed another task team titled, Hoisting Grip Member Advisory lead by Kathy Stieler. Additional task team members will be Richard Cullum, Sheri O’Dell-Deuer, Joey Deuer, Jeremy Buckles, Cameron Swanson, Jeff Pettit, Miles Mellor, and JP Jones. The team will provide guidance and perform research that relates to Hoisting Grip(s) and how they are used in our industry. Expect to see more information very soon.
The OSHA Relations Committee is also responsible for the task team titled, Rigging Training Standard (RTS). This task team is hard at work developing a deliverable for the industry. The RTS document is framed much like the recently revised Climber/Rescuer Training Standard (CRTS). We hope to have a more in-depth report for the Summer Conference.
Lastly, the OSHA Relations Committee is always looking for feedback and questions that can inspire the forward progress of safety and standards. I highly encourage our non-members and NATE members to reach out to our committee for clarity or guidance. ●
Justin Miller is the Chairman of the NATE OSHA Relations Committee and Vice President of Business Development at ET Tower in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He can be reached at 719-963-8822 or [email protected].

L.A.’s Massive New Bridge is Designed For 23 Million Pounds of People
The Sixth Street Viaduct replacement was built to withstand a 9.0 earthquake—and has a park to boot.

The $588 million bridge opening this weekend in Los Angeles is a landmark piece of architectural infrastructure that’s becoming a signature part of the low-slung city’s skyline. With 10 swooping arches along its 3,500 feet, the Sixth Street Viaduct is as visually striking as it is massive.
But this huge new bridge—crossing over rail lines and the Los Angeles River between Boyle Heights and the Arts District—focuses on a smaller scale. In multiple ways, it was designed to be a people-first bridge.
Yes, there are the sidewalks and the bike lanes that have become expected in large civic infrastructure projects. But the bridge also includes some uncommonly people-focused design elements. There are five separate staircases that connect the bridge’s deck to the ground below. And at the bottom of those stairs is the site of what will be about 12 acres of a new public park—an amenity that further sets this bridge apart from other transportation-centric projects around the world. “We decided that it would be not only a mode of transportation but also a destination point,” says Michael H. Jones, project manager and lead bridge engineer at engineering firm HNTB, which led the team that designed and built the bridge

On top of all that, the bridge was also designed specifically to bear the weight of a massive crowd of people which, perhaps surprisingly, weighs a lot more than a string of 18-wheelers. Jones says the deck of the bridge is designed to carry a load of 90 pounds per square foot, or more than 23 million pounds total. If the bridge was going to be a destination, the thinking went, it better be able to handle a crowd. “The city’s plan for this project is to be able at some times to actually shut the bridge down and have celebrations,” Jones says.
The first is already scheduled. The Sixth Street Viaduct is having a grand opening this weekend, and the first day will be open to pedestrians only, with food, bands, and a capacity of 15,000 people.
It’s a party more than six years in the waiting. The original viaduct was built in 1932, and was one of 12 bridges built across the L.A. River at the time. Aside from being the longest, the Sixth Street Viaduct was also unique for the type of aggregate used in its concrete—one that was later proven to be susceptible to a degrading chemical reaction known colloquially as concrete cancer. “It literally eats the concrete up,” Jones says.
In seismically active Southern California, this was a problem. So the city’s Bureau of Engineering tore the original bridge down in 2016 and launched an international design competition to replace it.
The winning proposal, with a design by HNTB Architecture, L.A.-based Michael Maltzan Architecture, and Dissing+Weitling, is called the Ribbon of Light, and it features a wave of 10 arches along each side of the 3,500-foot-long bridge. With a width of 100 feet, the bridge has four vehicle lanes bordered by wide bicycle and pedestrian paths. Five separate staircases connect the bridge to the ground, where the park will be built over the next few years, including athletic fields, dog parks, picnic areas, a café, and a small performing arts plaza.
And while pedestrian access and public space became focal points of the design, the project’s core purpose was to make a bridge that wouldn’t fall down in an earthquake. Jones says the bridge has been designed to be particularly resilient in the face of seismic events, and is expected to withstand a 9.0 earthquake, which scientists predict happens only once in a thousand years. Key to this is the bridge’s use of seismic isolation bearings at the base of each arch’s connection point with the ground. These bearings act as a kind of buffer on which the bridge can stand, allowing the ground to move underneath during an earthquake without tearing apart the structure. “Because of the seismic isolation, the structure will be able to ride out that earthquake without any damage whatsoever,” Jones says.
The isolation bearings were specially designed for this project, but have already been used in other settings. Jones says the same system has been implemented in the construction of SoFi Stadium, the $5.5 billion football stadium in nearby Inglewood.
In addition to improving the bridge’s strength, the bearings also changed its structural requirements. Jones says the bridge deck was able to be designed as a single structure, without the need for costly expansion joints at various points. “We believe that actually cut the cost of the structure down,” he says. “The bearings more than paid for themselves.”

AnowOne, a Rogue Deck Deconstructor
Players 1
Requires: Magic: The Gathering Zendikar Rising Commander Deck – Sneak Attack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08D214D91/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_DXMYPG75BKYG75GHQ82A (currently on sale!)
You can also see the deck list and play the Solitaire variant online here: https://archidekt.com/decks/2652466#AnowOne_Solitare
AnowOne is a Solitare variant of Magic played with the Anowon commander deck from Zendikar Rising.
Solitare Magic has a long history from the beginning of the game, from Beth Moursund’s Goldfish (https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/playing-your-pet-rough-testing-magic-deck-2010-08-30) to Mark Rosewater’s Mana Maze (https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/arcana/mana-maze-solitaire-2012-08-28).
AnowOne takes inspiration from the former, where the game is played using tranditional magic Commander rules (With Anowon as your commander), with three modification:
You are your own opponent. Cards that reference “another player” or “opponent” refer to you as well. You can also attack yourself and block your own creatures
Your creatures must attack each turn if able and you must play lands and Anowon if able. There’d be no puzzle if you could just sit back and draw your way through the deck one card at a time! There’s no leaving him in the graveyard either, if Anowon would die or get exiled you’ll move him back to the command zone.
Your goal is to have as few cards as possible left in your deck before dying!
0 Cards Left: You have explored the Ruins and lived to tell the tale!
1-20 Cards Left: Lara Croft level
20-30: Indiana Jones
30-40: Nate Drake
30-50: Benjamin Gates
50+: Goonies
Modifications to the deck or starting life total can make this easier or harder as warranted.
The experience can also be turned into a cooperative multiplayer game using similar rules. For multiple players, attempt to empty a shared library. You’re no longer your own opponent, but you still have to attack another player with your creatures and any player that could play Anowon from the shared Command Zone must. If a player runs out of life, their cards are removed from the game. Play continues until the group either wins or loses, with a single remaining player using the Solitare rules if necessary. I’d suggest starting with 20 life per player.
The precon doesn’t contain many cards that are “too weird” with these modified rules, but if you have a question or comment let me know!
You can find me on Twitter @wobbles or on Tumblr @brokeboardgames or come chat about it and other Magic design on the Beacon of Creation discord server: https://t.co/5RIErsTv9B
