Tiger & Bunny 2 - Cour 2 - Various Thoughts Post - SPOILERS!!!

I've watched Tiger & Bunny 2 Part 2/Cour 2 and now I want to write up some posts with my thoughts on the cour. Of course, SPOILER WARNING FOR TAIBANI 2 PART 2 / COUR 2! All thoughts will be placed under a Read More.

First, I'm going to start with the smaller thoughts that I have. I want to get the more misc. thoughts up first before I forget them, I'll likely also talk about the plot stuff here, since for me the action and actual plot stuff isn't as important as the thematic and character focused elements of the series.

Then I want to talk about the handling of familial relations in this part of the cour, similar to how I talked about it in regards to cour 1.

The final post I'll get up will be my thoughts on how they handled relationships in general, and how I feel about the ending.

I'll likely also discuss where I think they could take the series if they were to continue it, though, I will say right now, that how they ended this second season makes it so that I feel they could just comfortably end it here as well. Even though I would want more. Not an endless amount of content, but just a bit more. If they never do that though, I'll be okay too.

So, no to the more misc. stuff under the Read More!

1. I love how they opened with an interview with the top duo, just like they did with cour 2 for Season 1. They also focused quite a bit on FireSky this season and I loved how we got to see more of Nathan's business. Also, I fully expect a bunch of FireSky!Secretary!AU fics after this, lmao! I loved that.

2. Seeing all of the heroes working together and using their own resources and smarts was really nice. T&B also handles exposition and explaining plans and ideas in a very interesting way. They don't explain anything mid-battle like a battle shounen would, but they don't do a complete all show, no tell approach either. They give you, the watchers, all the clues first, then set up situations where explanations need to be given to other characters within the show itself, so those who may not have figured things out on their own (for whatever reason) could be caught up at the same time as the characters.

3. The series did a great job of avoiding deus ex machina. Aurora easily could have been this. But they worked around that. That being said, I do feel that Barnaby's injury being okay after using Kotetsu's suit. It seemed like too easy of a fix, and a part of me really did want to see both Kotetsu and Barnaby retiring from being superheroes in the end and/or the idea of Barnaby dealing with a debilitating injury, since that is a very realistic scenario and could have provided some interesting commentary. But, I do also understand the direction they wanted to take the series in this regard. I'll talk more on this later.

4. I didn't really have any interest in the whole plot for this cour. The stuff with Gregory Sunshine and stuff was kinda meh for me. Like every time he was on screen, I just wanted him to be off it, lol. I *did* like his interactions with the Ouroboros lady (though, her backstory did feel a bit rushed and wasn't that well done, but it was sufficient enough for me). The way they handled his sexist actions and remarks, and kind of had the two characters in a power struggle with each other, though, was quite interesting and well done to me. We need more anime that do this to pathetic, gross, sexist pervert characters:

Like, please! It's also in these moments that you can really tell that the director is a woman this time as opposed to S1.

5. Agnes not ending up skinny by the end of the season was beautiful, I loved it! I also love how, like with S1, Agnes pulled through for the heroes at the end, but, like always, she isn't doing it because she necessarily cares about the heroes (though, I do think she does on some level), but because of how much blood, sweat, and tears she has put into HERO TV, lmao. It's honestly so refreshing to have an adult female character in an anime have this sort of personality.

6. I really liked the inclusion of these plush toys:

It reminded me of the toy bears from Season 1, though this time Kaede likes them too (she has one on her phone).

I also got teary eyed at Barnaby responding “Maybe,” when the doll asked, “Are you happy?” That may not seem like a positive answer, but for Barnaby it is. I feel that answer is what gives me hope that we might get some more T&B in the future. And I'll talk about that some more in a later post.

7. I'm so, so glad that they *finally* addressed Karina's crush on Kotetsu. I'll discuss this in far more detail later, but just, thank goodness. It was like they had to spell it out to all the dudebros out there that Kotetsu only ever saw Karina as a child that he cares about. He related himself to an uncle, so he views her like family - like a niece, and that is *never* going to change.

“I’ll be like your uncle that says, “Have fun, but bring her back before her curfew.”

8. This part of S2 really said ACAB. Especially when they have Agnes being like, "You're shitty ass apology and realization, and eventual help, doesn't negate the fact that you basically sabotaged the heroes and caused a lot more harm than good." She didn't say it quite like that, but that was what she meant, lol. I loved it.

9. I like the way they hadbRyan deal with Gregory Sunshine, since that was a personal matter for him. I also like that they didn't have Kotetsu use the drug. I was never a fan of that theory, because there was no way I could see it working with Kotetsu's personality without either a *very specific* set of situations or with him just being OOC. It also felt redundant and a bit pointless, since the drug was just to enhance preexisting powers, not magically fix them. So I am a big fan of how they had Kotetsu go into berserk mode instead and lose his powers completely that way. It just personally works better for me.

10. The stuff with LL Audun was okay. His character seemed a bit cheesy, but like that fits. He was like a mix of an actual X-men (appearance-wise) and that old school superhero cheesiness that we sometimes think of. The English dub gave him a voice that really fits an older era as well. It was a nice touch.

11. That being said, I didn't really care for how they had him come to the realization that the heroes were good and that he didn't need to punish them. It felt a bit like lazy writing, but I also think they did a good job of making it clear that this particular character wasn't all quite mentally there anymore.

12. Having Kotetsu confront the truth of Mr. Legend! YES! I have a lot to say about all of that, and it will be in my post on familial relationships in this cour.

13. There was another time skip and you can really see that in Kaede and her friend. They both look older and just the way Kaede was talking and corresponding with Kotetsu - so much growth on both of their ends. I’ll be discussing this some more in another, later post.

14. The angle of Gregory's powers being perceived as an unknown contagious disease was quite a choice and made me think of two things: COVID and AIDs (especially given the fact that Cour 2 takes place in the 80s, specifically 1981, which is the same year that the AIDs epidemic started).

15. Karina, Nathan, Pao-lin, and Lara all have a very physical and visible reaction when they hear that Gregory's powers are supposedly activated via hugging (all agree with the power being odd and they all mimic hugging themselves). None of the male characters do this. It's something I've never really seen before in an anime, but I appreciated that small touch. It's a small detail that I feel really highlights how a female perspective was directing this season.

16. Mattia with Saito killed me! lmao I feel we’ve all been in a situation like that, where you have trouble understanding someone, but you feel silly or embarrassed about that, so you just kinda nod your head and go with it. But Mattia is legit trying to answer Saito’s questions and it is a mess, haha.

17. Speaking of Mattia, I really like how they wrote the situation with him. It was really creative to have him be the “betrayer” character, but also not at the same time. Also, the way they incorporated him working with Saito afterwards was nicely done.

18. The main news channel spreading misinformation, discontent, and hatred...As an American with two parents who love a certain Faux News Channel (and watch a certain podcast - all a bunch of stuff that just spews misinformation everywhere)...That really hit close. Also, if I’m not mistaken, the news caster was Lara’s mother’s tennis rival (and ex-friend), which added an extra element to it. Especially when Lara’s mother told her that she was going to be changing (which I’m going to talk about more later) while her rival seems like she is just going to stew in a hateful way of thinking and viewing the world.

Finally, to end on a sweeter note, let’s talk about the flowers in the new ED (which is beautiful and has a gorgeous song to go with it) :

White: Purity, Innocence

Yellow: Friendship, Joy, Get Well

Pink: Gentle Admiration, Affection, Adoration

All of these meanings fit Kotetsu and Barnaby’s bond and the themes of S2 Cour 2.

Arkhelios Adventures

“What the hell is going on in here? Dad? You’d better be wearing pants!”

Crown Princess Theodosia of Crystal Cove stormed the main palace, looking angrily at the mess around her. Cups of wine and articles of clothing littered the front entryway and the princess was absolutely certain that she knew how they’d gotten there.

For most of her life, Theodosia had been cleaning up her parents’ messes. Her father loved to party and have countless meaningless flings, while her mother had thrown herself into dark magic and had been killed attempting to destroy the Grim Reaper with the delusional, nearly extinct Strangetown witch coven. Her twin siblings had never shared the burden of their parents with her, and since her sister, Holly, had died in the explosion with the queen of Twikkii Island, her brother had been even less helpful. While her father was a widower, his flings were no longer considered adultery, but his daughter still thought less of him for them.

She had been married to a near stranger, the former queen of Pleasantview Queen Charlotte II after a diplomatic incident required a sacrifice to Pleasantview be made. King Liam hadn’t asked his daughter what her thoughts on the matter were before the engagement was announced. He’d stood at her rushed wedding and grinned like this was all going according to his elaborate design. Theodosia loved her father, she truly did, but most days she felt like she was the parent in their relationship. Her mother had already been pressuring Liam to abdicate the throne in favour of their daughter for years when she died. If she were still alive, he may have gone through with it.

It was hard enough knowing that she had to run a country one day, Theodosia didn’t need the stress of being the default leader of her family, especially considering that her father was still alive and seemingly interested in filling the role. All his daughter could see was the seemingly endless political fires she had to put out due to Liam’s carelessness.

“Dad?”

The princess stormed past a group of party guests enjoying the sights of the palace from the kitchen floor. To her horror, she could vaguely recognize one of them as an occasional visitor from Arkhelios who she had the misfortune of meeting before under circumstances like this one, along with what she was desperately hoping wasn’t Twikkii Island’s palace head of security.

“Dad! We need to talk!”

As she suspected, Theodosia found her father wooing a man she wasn’t familiar with. She tried to breathe as her therapist had recommended, but staying calm was increasingly difficult with every second she stood there.

“Pelle, you’re amazing,” the king gushed, brushing his lips against the other man’s hand and watching him melt. “Maybe I could speak with the staff and organize a room for you so that we could spend more time together.”

“Absolutely not! Mom has been dead for just over a decade, and Holly less than six. We are not having any more scandals with you parading people younger than your children around the castle. Think of your reputation. Think of the country’s reputation. Do you really want Claudia to walk in here some day and evict you from your luxurious lifestyle because she’s convinced our people that she’s the better option compared to you?”

The king frowned, though he looked like he was weighing his daughter’s words.

“Claudia has no claim here,” he said at last in his defense. “Your mother is dead, and I’m not married, so who I decide to spend my time with is no one’s business but my own.”

“Do you really think that’s going to stop Pleasantview?” Theodosia hissed, glaring at the young man literally trying to hide behind her father. “That’s never stopped them historically and it won’t now. Unless you want to watch a second Crystal Empire take away your throne, you have to play your part. Mom’s not here to protect us anymore with whatever hellish dark magic she had and Pleasantview is still a prime suspect in Holly’s death. You are going to run this country into the ground if you don’t change things!”

“I-I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to cause a scene,” the young man said earnestly. “I never wanted to-”

“Pelle, relax. You haven’t done anything wrong,” King Liam sighed. “If I want you to stay here, then you’re allowed to stay here. Theodosia isn’t queen yet, even if it seems that she’s forgotten that fact. Her mother filled her head with nonsense about an abdication long ago and tried to bully me into doing it. The country is still here and thriving over a decade later, so what did she really know?”

Silence swept across the room as the princess continued to try to lower her blood pressure. Her mother had been terribly wrong about many things in life, but she hadn’t been wrong to suggest that her husband “retire” from the throne, especially when this current mess was the result of Liam making his own choices.

“Pelle, I’m sure you’re a nice person caught up in the glamour of the castle and my father’s...charms,” she said coldly, ignoring her father in favour of his lover. “You’re not the first person to do so, and I know that you won’t be the last. Let me tell you about your predecessors. I have four recognized half-siblings from my father’s many affairs. There are likely more, but those are just the ones I know about. The ones who grew up without a word from my father. The ones who had mothers and fathers plead with the palace for child support or for the father of their child to spend a single moment with his child. The ones that I write WInterfest cards to every year under my father’s name so that they don’t have to feel the same crippling rejection from their absent father that I do. You are nothing more than a plaything, a toy. He’ll get tired of you too, so be prepared and use protection. I would hate to see history repeat itself with you.”

“That’s both treason and unfair,” Liam growled, but quickly withered under the glare of his daughter. “I had a traumatic childhood. I didn’t have my parents to raise me or protect me or teach me how to endure a loveless marriage to your sociopath of a mother. I’m doing my best here. Everything is fine. There’s hardly rioting in the streets because I entertain guests in my private quarters.”

A vein in Theodosia’s head was beginning to throb angrily. She tried massaging it away with no luck. Some days she wished that her mother had been the one to survive the marriage and that her father had died in her place. Queen Celeste had been emotionally unbalanced, incredibly self-centered and frankly, an actual danger to society, but at least she owned it. Her mother had accepted blame and talked to her daughter about critical things that a ruler needed to govern effectively. She had had insight and ideas and strategies for her kingdom, where her husband...didn’t. One parent was maliciously ambitious and the other had spent his life running away from his problems. No wonder Theodosia had been plucking grey hairs from her head since her early twenties.

She wanted to rage and scream about the injustice in her life, but there was an audience and her mother had trained her better than to throw tantrums about her father’s childish behaviour in front of the public. Who was her father to whine about his orphaned childhood when Theodosia had never once been allowed to have a childhood at all? She’d been the one to try to clean up her parents’ messes, while also helping to shield her young siblings from the disaster that was their family.

“I have a meeting to discuss the Harvest Moon Ball,” she spat. “Something that the monarch should be doing. By all means though, you stay here and cry about your dead mom who you don’t even remember. My losing both my mother and sister could never compete with that, Your Majesty.”

The princess curtsied dramatically, mocking the respect she was supposed to have for her king and father. What she really longed to do was flip him off and shout obscenities like the frustrated teenager she was never allowed to be, but she was better than that. For his part, Pelle did try a clumsy bow as she retreated, though the princess was far too angry to notice.

"Your Majesty! What a surprise."

No sooner than when she’d entered the hallway, yet another situation appeared. Queen Claudia was in the main hallway, lazily looking at the portraits on the wall. Had talking about the threat Pleasantview posed somehow summoned the monarch or was this just exceptional bad luck?

Theodosia tried to suppress her surprise at the queen of Pleasantview and her heir just walking into the castle unannounced. Formality had never been Claudia's strong suit, and she clearly had no intention of changing. Theodosia remained convinced that Claudia enjoyed the element of surprise and the uneasiness it inspired.

From down the hall, Theodosia's wife, Charlotte, was just leaving the kitchen with a small snack in her arms. Her wife frantically signalled her to be on alert and Charlotte laid her snack aside and came running as elegantly as she could.

"Your Majesty," Charlotte said with a deep curtsy. "We didn't expect you here, what an honour."

Claudia couldn't help laughing at the situation, despite its seriousness. Charlotte had been the monarch that she'd replaced in Pleasantview and now she was bowing to Claudia. The whole thing was silly, but protocol was protocol. She and Charlotte weren't close and hadn't spoken outside of events in the past few years, so formalities needed to be established. She had Victoriana as an audience, looking for an example of how to treat foreign royalty.

"Your Highnesses," Claudia said, following proper procedure and not bowing or curtsying to either princess. Beside her, Victoriana remained silent. "I'm just visiting today. There's a matter I need to consult the archives about. A private matter. I've consulted the archives in Pleasantview, but I need some titles from your archives. I trust this is the estate where the records are kept?"

Theodosia nodded gracefully.

"Yes, since this is the king's formal residence, all the archives have been moved here as is the custom. Did you need any title in particular? I can summon the royal librarian to assist you if you'd prefer."

"It must be nice having so many royal residences that you have to move archives around," Claudia laughed. Theodosia's mask of politeness never slipped in reaction. "You guys have what? Three castles? Four? I'm jealous. I only have one royal residence and the ruins of the old one. I'm thinking of expanding my estate to catch up with you guys. Maybe add a few new houses."

Claudia watched the princesses closely, hoping that her light threat had hit her targets as she'd hoped. Neither woman moved from their place, still politely bowing and showing no reaction. Pleasantview had a history of absorbing Crystal Cove over multiple centuries, freeing it and then capturing it once again years later. There was a good reason why both women were so cautious of Claudia and it never hurt to remind them of why. Claudia had no intentions of going to war to conquer any country, but it was good to mention every so often that she always could if she ever changed her mind.

"I think I'll just poke around by myself for now," Claudia announced. "I'm looking for the archives regarding the Empress' reign. I assume that they'd be here?"

A worried look passed between Theodosia and her wife, though they tried to hide it.

"E-empress Anastacia?"

Claudia fought the urge to roll her eyes. It was hardly acceptable behaviour for a queen, but it was so tempting.

"Yes, there's only been one empress, unless I'm missing one," she replied irritably.

"But, she reigned over Pleasantview mainly, surely you have all the records you need in your archives. Everything from the Crystal Empire remains under your control, if I'm remembering correctly," Theodosia answered.

She was remembering correctly. There wasn't an inch of this castle or this government that she hadn't meticulously studied in preparation for her eventual ascent to the throne. Whatever Claudia was looking for should be in Pleasantview, or at the very least, be able to be sent to Pleasantview at the queen's request. Why did she need to arrive in a foreign country unannounced to look for records she already had?

"I'm sure having a quick look won't hurt either. Victoriana, stay with the princesses until I return," Claudia ordered. "It will be boring in the archives, so go explore with them. I'm sure you two don't mind looking after her for a bit?"

"Of course not," Theodosia said, clenching her teeth in a grimace she hoped was convincing. First she had to babysit her father and now she had to entertain a foreign princess without notice. She had had plans of her own for the day, but they had all been ruined, as usual.

"Have fun," Claudia called out, heading in the direction of the castle archives.

When she had disappeared from eyesight, both Crystal Cove princesses sighed deeply, releasing the breath they'd been holding.

"What do you want to do? We could play a game if you want," Victoriana suggested, oblivious to the tension in the air. "Or watch TV."

"I have to go for another meeting on the Harvest Moon Ball, I can't stay and babysit Claudia's kid on top of everything else. Make sure my dad's still wearing pants by the time the witch council meets tonight. Maybe someone on staff will look after the kid until Her Majesty is done pretending that she owns the place."

With that, Theodosia stormed down the hall, intent on accomplishing at least one of the items on her schedule.

Despite the progressive politics of early zombie films like George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, modern narratives about zombies are often strikingly conservative, displaying a world that rewards rugged individualism and presents a pessimistic view of human nature. The recent HBO drama The Last of Us, based on the acclaimed 2013 video game of the same name, exemplifies this tendency. The show takes place two decades after an outbreak of a zombifying fungal infection triggers global societal collapse. In this post-apocalyptic world, a fascist government violently maintains order within walled-off “quarantine zones,” while a brutal resistance group called the Fireflies strives to overthrow them. The Last of Us follows the cynical smuggler Joel (Pedro Pascal) and a teenager named Ellie (Bella Ramsey), who is immune to the fungus, on their treacherous journey to meet up with a team of Fireflies who believe they can use her to create a vaccine. As Joel and Ellie bond against the backdrop of a dog-eat-dog world where no one can be trusted, the show presents a largely right-wing vision in which the only path to redemption is through caring for one’s immediate kin. According to Neil Druckmann—the co-creator of the series as well as the game and its sequel, who spent his early childhood in a West Bank settlement—elements of The Last of Us are informed by the politics of Israel/Palestine. On this week’s episode of On the Nose, editor-in-chief Arielle Angel, managing editor Nathan Goldman, fellow Dahlia Krutkovich, and contributor Hazem Fahmy discuss the politics of the show, its relationship to Israel/Palestine, and its evocations of the Holocaust. I understand the complaints that PAUL T. GOLDMAN feels too mean to the person it's supposed to help (I think I've seen this film before etc etc. Peep the PFP). Sure, maybe it shows a one-dimensional side of him as a man who desires fame and possibly a way to rationalize how easily he was duped. But, are those parts of him not fascinating enough to merit inspection (with his consent, or as much as a subject of a documentary he has no full control over can consent)? Why must we limit ourselves to thinking this is a negative portrayal of him? His perhaps "unbecoming" traits highlighted by this portrayal are undeniably part of the human condition. Can we not just allow ourselves to see this man, who clearly wants to be seen anyway, without judgement?

Also, the comparisons to THE REHEARSAL might be good for marketing, but I think it could hurt its reception overall. THE REHEARSAL is crucially different in that the subject is the creator himself, and that creator openly indicts himself for how he presents his other subjects. Viewed through the Nathan Fielder lens, PAUL T. GOLDMAN can easily be argued as exploitative. What I'm saying is, it's a different show that deserves a different lens.

DISCLAIMER: My opinion could entirely change by the end of this show. Isn't that what makes TV so exhilarating?

Titan A.E. is a 2000 American animated post-apocalyptic science fiction adventure film directed by Don Bluth and Gary Goldman, and starring Matt Damon, Bill Pullman, John Leguizamo, Nathan Lane, Janeane Garofalo and Drew Barrymore. Its title refers to the spacecraft central to the plot with A.E. meaning "After Earth". The animation of the film combines 2D traditional hand-drawn animation with the extensive use of computer-generated imagery.

The film tells the story a young man who receives a mission to save humanity and protect the giant ship that can create a new planet, after a hostile group of alien species with pure energy destroyed Earth. Along the way, he meets the crew and their captain, who help them find the ship before the alien species can destroy it.

So I’ve started watching succession. And there’s this bit with Roman Roy where he sees his gf flirting with a waiter at a charity ball , and Roman (in his hubris and jealousy) goads her into giving the waiter her number (“oh fuck dude that’s her actual number hahaha”) and later that evening, when the waiter calls her, Roman grabs her phone and shoves it up her dress, using the phone’s vibrating ringtone to get her hot n bothered and can I just say that’s a TOTAL Nathan Bateman move??

I’m totally ripping off the show dialogue but ITS BEEN IN MY HEAD

You walk into Nathan’s bathroom, stepping behind him while he looks in the mirror getting ready for the charity function. You smile at his furrowed face through the mirror and rest your head on his shoulder, smoothing your hands up and down his chest, across his cummerbund, down to his trousers. You kiss his neck.

“Five bathrooms”

“What?”

“Five bathrooms. This penthouse has FIVE bathrooms, and you gotta come in this particular bathroom right now?” He agitatedly forces his cufflink through the French cut shirt’s wrist hole.

It shouldn’t even BE a sexy thot because it’s all such a dick move but at the charity function he has you go sit at the bar because he doesn’t want you popping off about Universal Basic Income with the Goldman Sachs guys, especially not when he’s on edge about his speech or whatever. And you are flirting with the Hot bartender just a little (who maybe teaches you a slight of hand trick or something, making the evening somewhat salvageable). You don’t turn around for Nathan’s speech and he absolutely notices, coming over later and doing The Roman Roy Thing.

Steve Martin was originally cast as Armand Goldman and Robin Williams was to play Albert Goldman in "The Birdcage" (1996) but scheduling conflicts caused Martin to drop out of the role and Williams then decided to assume the role of Armand instead, as he wanted a change from flamboyant characters. The role ultimately played by Nathan Lane.

Filmmaker and PBS producer Rick McKay was hired by director Mike Nichols, months before filming of "Birdcage" began, to go to Paris, London, San Francisco, and Atlanta to make a feature length documentary about drag queens. McKay did thorough research to find drag queens all over the world to interview and to film in performance. This finished documentary was used to train Lane and Williams.

Nichols required that Lane and Williams filmed at least one good take of each scene sticking to the script before he would allow them to improvise (something both of the actors are known for).

While Lane, like his character in the film, is openly gay, he hadn't come out at the time of the film's release.

"There's not a day in my life I'm not proud of being gay, but I just wasn't ready for that attention to be placed on it. I remember being on Oprah. Well, not on 'Oprah.' Near Oprah. She started saying, 'Now, Nathan, you got all those girlie moves going down in 'The Birdcage', where's all that coming from? You're so good at all that girlie stuff!'"

During that interview, Winfrey asked Lane if he was afraid that taking a gay role would typecast him for gay roles or make people question his sexuality for the rest of his career. Lane replied, “Not really…. I don’t have an image to uphold. I’m basically a character actor. I’m not a sex symbol. From role to role I’m usually pretty different, and the material was so incredible, I don’t know how you could turn it down because you would be worrying about your image. It’s a wonderful character and very nurturing….”

The celebrity magazine Us later asked Lane point-blank, “Are you gay?” and Lane responded, “I’m 40, single, and I work a lot in the musical theater. You do the math. What do you need — flashcards?”

Born Joseph Lane, Nathan had to change his first name in order to join Actors Equity because there was already another actor named Joseph Lane. He chose the name Nathan after the character of Nathan Detroit from the Broadway musical "Guys and Dolls." Coincidentally, he later played that role in the hugely successful 1992 revival of "Guys and Dolls" on Broadway.

“This wedding turned out pretty well, don’t you think?”

Roman shrugged as best as he could while dancing. Years ago, he’d be cringing with embarrassment to be seen dancing with Jorah, but now that Jorah was married and Roman was about to be, who really cared what people thought? Abe had run off to empty the contents of his stomach, but had insisted that Roman stay at the reception to throw off suspicion.

“For a Helios wedding with a formerly dead groom, I’d say that it’s going really well,” he agreed, allowing Jorah to spin him around.

“Is Abe having a hard time with morning sickness?” Jorah asked quietly, trying not to alert any eavesdroppers with potentially scandalous news. “All the books I’ve been reading say that it shouldn’t last too much longer. You guys are really lucky to be having another kid. It’s a great blessing.”

Roman looked surprised for a moment, but quickly surmised Jorah’s source for their pregnancy news. Ulyssa couldn’t keep a secret to save her life.

“We’re excited, but yeah, the morning sickness has been rough,” he replied. “Apparently it was really bad with Theo, or so he keeps telling me. I didn’t really get to spend much time with him when he was pregnant before.”

‘Oh, the morning sickness was pretty epic,” Jorah laughed, spinning Roman once more. “He destroyed our main bathroom a few times. Is he having an easier time with the pregnancy than with Theo? I remember Adam being concerned about him and making us promise to call him if Abe was having serious complications.”

“Really? My uncle?” Roman said, completely surprised to hear that one of his relatives had dared defy Malika’s single minded quest to force Abe to lose the pregnancy. Adam had already provoked his father by taking Darcy’s last name, it made sense that he might have been sympathetic to a scared, pregnant teenager.

If Grandpa even is his father. I’d love to grab a Ouija board and ask Grandma about that rumour.

“Yeah, Adam’s a great guy,” Jorah replied. “Valerian and I have been to see him a bunch of times. He’s always compassionate, which isn’t a common trait around here.”

“To help get pregnant?”

Jorah looked surprised for a moment to know that Roman was aware of his troubles, but then rolled his eyes when he thought about the number of people he’d told.

“Ulyssa?”

“Ulyssa,” Roman confirmed with a laugh. “Sorry if that was supposed to be a secret. She may have been shopping around for sperm donation, which Abe didn’t seem to take very well.”

“I’m going to kill her,” Jorah groaned. “I’m so sorry- I don’t know how to reign her in when she gets an idea in her head. She promised to stop.”

“Abe wasn’t thrilled, but if you need...anything, we could probably work something out,” Roman blurted out quickly, unable to think of a more polite way to offer to father a child. “I mean, if you don’t mind my mother’s genetic inheritance. I’d imagine that’s a deal breaker for most people.”

Jorah’s face turned an impossible shade of red at the thought of having a little baby Bellamy of his own. His teenage self would have died of happiness, but those days were far behind him now.

“Thanks, we’ll keep that in mind. We haven’t given up hope yet, but that’s a very generous offer.”

“Your family has done a lot for mine, and so have you, so...it’s an option to explore. But I’m sure you won’t need it.”

An awkward silence fell between the two men as the song they were dancing to came to an end. Jorah was still mortified that his sister had asked her ex-lover and the boy he’d had a terrible crush on to father a child with him, while Roman wasn’t sure how to follow up a proposition like that with casual conversation.

“Roman! Over here! It’s me!”

To Maura’s absolute horror, Claudia began waving at Roman excitedly, calling attention to herself when Maura had pleaded with her to try to remain unnoticed. Maura had found her too late. Her cousin clearly had some scheme to reunite with Roman Bellamy, though Maura couldn’t understand why. Whatever had happened between them years ago was in the distant past, and Claudia knew he was engaged. Roman and his demonic nature would be appreciated by the shadowy forces that supported Claudia’s claim to the throne, but Maura repeatedly tried to tell her cousin that Roman would be a terrible candidate for a royal spouse. He had struggled with the demands of being married to a duke, and Maura had watched first hand as his feelings for Abe smothered his relationship with Adrian. She wouldn’t watch that train wreck overtake another cousin’s life.

“Claudia? I mean, Your Majesty? What are you doing here?”

Roman stared in shock at the queen of Pleasantview, who was waving like an idiot at him. Beside him, Jorah looked like he was taking mental notes about the complex network of exes Roman had made.

“That’s the queen of Pleasantview?” he gasped. “Can you get me an autograph? Oh, do you think she could sign my copy of Pleasantview: a History? I’m just past the chapter where Brandi Broke has disappeared and her son returns from a foreign war and the illegitimate demon princess kills her father to establish a ruling council instead of a monarchy and the Goths! She’s related to the Goths, Roman!”

“Any of us could be related to the Goths, they died off centuries ago,” Roman scoffed, though he knew for a fact that isolated Arkhelios was nowhere near historical Pleasantivew. “Drop your book off later if you want, I’ll try to remember to ask her to sign it.”

“Her grandfather was a monster,” Jorah said with fanboyish enthusiasm. “She looks so normal! After what he did to Maura’s ancestors- it’s amazing that those two are so close.”

“Monstrous grandfathers are more common than you’d think,” Roman shot, giving Jorah a weary look. “Excuse me, I’d better go say hi before Maura has a stroke. She looks like she’s going to explode.”

“Oh, it’s that girl we watched Roman make out with on television. She sure seems excited to see Roman again. She’s single too, if I remember my gossip right.”

Nathan had somehow managed to sneak up beside Abe without him noticing. Abe had returned from the bathroom just in time to see what was sure to be tomorrow's gossip first hand. He was far too busy watching his fiance greet his ex-girlfriend to notice Nathan.

“I wonder why she tagged along with Maura?” Nathan mused, elbowing his brother suggestively. “Maybe she’s looking to reminisce about the old days with your fiance. He does look happy to see her again.”

“Go to hell Nathan,” Abe growled, trying to look nonchalant. Roman did look happy to see Claudia again, he couldn’t deny it. “Is anyone ever happy to have you around? I doubt it.”

Nathan shrugged, still smiling.

“Gareth doesn’t seem to mind me,” he teased. “Oh, and Josh and Steven, among others. You’d be surprised how many of your string of disappointed exes prefer me over you.”

Abe shook his head, mystified as always about how his brother chose to live his life. Nathan was just trying to provoke him, and Abe had lived with Lucy long enough to know an obvious ploy for attention when he saw it.

Still, there was no denying the chemistry between Roman and this foreign queen. Roman didn’t really talk about the people he’d dated or slept with, since the conversation tended to turn towards Roman asking him about all the men he’d slept with, especially when they’d been dating. Roman’s friendship with Ulyssa was no problem as Ulyssa was married and Roman had no desire to start up an affair with her, but a very single queen with wealth Abe couldn’t even dream of? How did Abe compete with that?

Roman’s popularity among rich, attractive people was one of the few reservations Abe had going forward with a permanent joining between them. No matter where he went, Roman seemed to attract a dedicated group of people who would jump into bed with him without a second thought. Would feeling Roman’s emotions when propositioned by a powerful monarch be something he could endure? What if Roman cheated on him and they were stuck bonded for eternity, but divorced? All of the hundreds of fears Abe had felt the moment he had sealed his deal with Malika all those years ago came flooding back to him. Was he making a mistake marrying Roman? Would the demon sovereign punish them for backing out of their wedding if that’s what they decided? Could he really make Roman happier than someone who lived in a literal palace?

Abe couldn’t make out what Roman and Claudia were saying, but they were both laughing, probably at some inside joke from their days at a posh boarding school Abe couldn’t afford to send his son to.

As Ulyssa began a new song, Claudia grabbed Roman by the hand, and dragged him towards the dance floor. To Abe’s surprise, his fiance didn’t even glance his way before wrapping his arms around the young queen.

It’s just like when he dances with Ulyssa. It doesn’t mean anything. We’re having another kid together. He loves me. This wedding will end, and she’ll go back home and he’ll come to bed with me. He’s marrying me.

Abe wasn’t thrilled with where Roman’s hands were placed on his dance partner’s body, but he refused to let Nathan know he was jealous. He wanted to rush over and steal Roman away from the monarch, but there was no way he could pull that off without looking like a jealous asshole. The instant he accused Roman of being inappropriate with someone was the instant Roman reminded him of his own history of infidelity. Roman had never cheated on him, or on Adrian for that matter, while Abe had personally seen his betrayal choke out every hopeful part of Roman until he was a sobbing mess on their bedroom floor. There was no way he would emerge unscathed from a jealous accusation, no matter how he felt. He would just have to trust his fiance.

“Things look like they’re getting steamy,” Nathan remarked, disappointed that Abe hadn’t taken his bait. “Do you think Roman would dance with me like that or does he save all of that for the rich and powerful?”

“It’s none of your business, Nathan. Why don’t you stick to dating every single person I’ve ever talked to? Whatever you think is going to happen with you and Roman isn’t going to happen. Stop embarrassing yourself.”

Out of the corner of his eye, Abe saw Maura waving at him, trying to get his attention. He nodded at her to show that he saw her, and she gestured towards Roman with a frustrated look that he returned. Maura beckoned him to join her and Abe began walking towards her, patting his brother irritably on the shoulder as he left.

“Try to have fun,” he said, ignoring Nathan’s scowl. “Maybe you’ll find someone drunk enough to want to dance with you. If you can’t get one of my exes to come with you to the next family function, you can always try tracking down Lucy’s exes.”

Hello everyone Ricky Goldman here.

Its NXT Deadline 2023 live at total mortgage arena in Bridgeport Connecticut. The match on the kick off show is Axiom vs Nathan Frazer. Fast paced action started here,both men evenly matched here. Frazer showing a new attitude here as he chops Axiom and tries to put him away he gets angry because Axiom kicked out then took over. Nathan with a super plex then a twisted suplex but to no avail. Axiom takes Nathan to the top and delivers a Spanish fly followed by the golden ratio for the win.

Onto the main show and Shawn Michaels comes out followed by CM Punk.

First match is Dominick Mysterio vs Dragon Lee for the north American title. Lee with very early on high flying action with a suicide dive that helps him take over,Lee goes to the top but gets cut off which turns the action to the champions advantage. Rey Mysterio on commentary,Dominick with the 3 amigos but Lee cuts him off,they go up to the top and comes off with a stomp to the champion. Dominick looks to be out on his feet,back in the ring and they go back and forth but its Lee with a powerbomb to become new champion.

Next up its Fallon Henley vs Blair Davenport vs Kelani Jordan vs Tiffany Stratton vs Lash Legend in a iron survivor match. Fallon and Blair start they both look for a pin fall but just get a 2 count ,both women feel each other out as Tiffany is 3rd in all 3 women go at it,Tiffany and Blair team up but it doesn't last long. Blair pins Fallon sending her to the penalty box as Kelani joins the match turning it into a fatal four way. Fallon back in and pins Tiffany to put her in the box,Kelani and Fallon battle as Lash enters and changes the match pace slamming everyone showing her power,she pins both Fallon and Tiffany at the same time. The rest of Meta Four come out to block the door to the box but Fallon gets out and leaps off. Blair with a pin sending Kelani to the box,all women fighting for that final pin as Tiffany pins Lash. All women give it thier all but its Blair pinning Fallon to become iron survivor. After the match Blair cuts a promo,Lyra Valkyrie came out and got blind sided by Cora Jade.

On the show next Carmelo Hayes vs Lexis King,Carmelo firmly in control but Lexis with a big boot to Carmelo into the steel steps and back in the ring to take over as he delivers 2 back breakers,he then wanted to shake hands but Hayes flipped him off. A spill to the outside then back in where Carmelo took over hitting his finisher to win.
