It鈥檚 National Cheese Lovers Day 馃 Here鈥檚 some great info on plant based cheeses for every occasion. Vegans eat all the meat & dairy products like everyone else, ours are just made from plants & don鈥檛 involve animal cruelty. I always tell people to try different plant based cheeses/foods until you find the brands that click for you. Like all brands, there are mediocre & there are superior. You just have to find what鈥檚 right for you. This is a great start!

National Poutine Day
In Canada, particularly in Quebec, poutine is a staple food, if not 聽also an iconic one. It has become a popular food in America as well as 聽in other countries, and we celebrate it today, on National Poutine Day. 聽Standard poutine is made up of fresh-cut french fries, squeaky fresh 聽cheese curds, and brown gravy, but there are many variations of the 聽dish. Among other possibilities, the name may have come from the word 聽"pudding," which is spelled pouding in French, or from poutine, 聽which is slang for "mess" in Quebec. It is pronounced "pou-tin" in the 聽French-dominated regions of Quebec and New Brunswick, but as "poo-teen" 聽elsewhere.
According to the most widely known and accepted story, poutine was 聽first served at L鈥橧d茅al (Caf茅 Ideal)鈥攁 restaurant that later changed its 聽name to Le Lutin Qui Rit (The Laughing Elf)鈥攊n 1957, in the small town 聽of Warwick, in Arthabaska County, Quebec, a town known for producing 聽squeaky cheese curds. A usual customer, Eddy Lainsesse, requested curds 聽on top of his fries. The restaurant owner, Fernand Lachance, supposedly 聽replied, "脟a va faire une maudite poutine," which roughly translates to 聽"That's going to make a dreadful mess." A variation of the story says 聽that Lainsesse asked for the curds and fries to be thrown together in a 聽paper bag, upon which Lachance looked into the bag and said, "This is 聽poutine." The dish started being sold in a bag and soon caught on. 聽Patrons began adding ketchup and vinegar to it. In 1963, Lachance began 聽serving it on plates. Customers soon noticed that the fries got cold 聽quickly, so Lachance added gravy to keep them warm.
According to another story, poutine was created by Jean-Paul Roy, 聽owner of Le Roy Jucep, a drive-in restaurant in Drummondville, Quebec. 聽He had been serving a dish of gravy and french fries called patate-sauce 聽since 1958, and in 1964 noticed that some of his diners were adding 聽cheese curds to it. He soon added a dish that contained all three 聽ingredients and named it fromage-patate-sauce.
No matter how poutine got its start, it soon could be found being 聽sold as street food in Canada. By 1969 it was being sold in Quebec City 聽at the Ashton Snack Bar food truck on Boulevard Wilfred-Hamel, and it 聽was being sold in Montreal by 1983. By the early 1980s, it had become a 聽widely popular street food in Ontario and Quebec.
It made its debut in Canadian chain restaurants in 1985, appearing on 聽the menu at Frits, a now-defunct Quebec-based chain. By the 1990s, 聽poutine had reached mass popularization in the country, after its 聽inclusion on the menus of other chains. It first appeared on a Burger 聽King menu in 1987 in Quebec, and soon spread to other locations of the 聽chain. The same happened with McDonald's in 1990. Canadian fast-food 聽chain Harvey's debuted it on menus across the country in 1992.
But poutine wasn't to remain only as street food and fast food. By 聽the early 2000s, it was appearing in high-end Canadian restaurants. It 聽was put on the menu at Aud Pied de Cochon in Montreal in 2002, where it 聽was topped with foie gras. Other high-end Montreal restaurants followed 聽suit. Garde Manger began serving an Iron Chef America-winning lobster poutine, and Pub Quartier Latin put poutine made with steak, truffles, and red wine demi-glace on their menu.
Some Canadian restaurants have made poutine their main focus. La 聽Banquise in Montreal began serving it in the 1980s. They started with 聽the standard version and an Italian version with bolognese sauce instead 聽of gravy. They have since expanded to serving 30 types. Smoke's 聽Poutinerie was started in Toronto in 2008, the first poutine-only 聽restaurant in that city. Other poutine-only restaurants that followed in 聽Canada are Poutini's House of Poutine, La Poutinerie, and Poutineville.
Poutine made its first foray into the United States in New Jersey and 聽New York, where a variation of the recipe called "Disco Fries" became 聽popular. This version substituted mozzarella or cheddar cheese for the 聽curds. Poutine has since become relatively common in the States, and 聽took hold in other countries as well, such as the United Kingdom and 聽Russia.
As mentioned, there are various types of poutine besides the usual 聽french fries, cheese curds, and gravy combination. Different types of 聽potatoes, cheese, and sauces can be used. Italian poutine may use 聽spaghetti sauce instead of gravy; veggie poutine is made with mushroom 聽sauce and vegetables; Irish poutine is made with lardons. La galvaude is from Gasp茅sie and is made with chicken and green peas. A variation in Montreal uses smoked meat.
Festivals devoted to poutine are held across Canada throughout the 聽year. Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto are some cities that hold them. On 聽National Poutine Day, events are held and specials are available at 聽restaurants in countries like Canada and the United States. For example, 聽My Meatball Place in Toronto has given away free samples of meatball 聽and vegan poutine, and The Hops Spot in Syracuse has offered half-price 聽poutine. With so many types of poutine鈥攁nd so many restaurants that 聽serve it in some parts of the world鈥攖here is no reason to remain hungry 聽on National Poutine Day.
How to Observe National Poutine Day (Canada)
Here are some ideas on how to celebrate the day:
Make your own poutine. You could make the original version or another variation of the dish. You could even make Disco Fries, the Americanized version of the dish.
Check if there is a place near you that serves poutine.
Enjoy poutine at a Canadian restaurant that specializes in the dish, such as La Banquise, Smoke's Poutinerie, Poutini's House of Poutine, La Poutinerie, or Poutineville. Smoke's Poutinerie also has some locations in the United States.
Have poutine at a restaurant in Warwick, Quebec, the town where the dish is said to have originated, or have it at Le Roy Jucep in Drummondville, Quebec, the other location where it is said to have gotten its start.
Eat some poutine at Harvey's or at another fast food restaurant in Canada.
Enjoy poutine at a high-end Canadian restaurant such as Aud Pied de Cochon, Garde Manger, or Pub Quartier Latin.
See if there are any specials on poutine today at restaurants such as My Meatball Place in Toronto or The Hops Spot in Syracuse.
Plan a trip to an upcoming poutine fest, such as Montreal's Le Grand Poutinefest, Ottawa Poutine Fest, or Toronto Poutine Fest.

A question for you because you seem like one of those people who has watched everything: how did you get started watching bl, and what are your ultimate favorite shows?
Double-barrelled! I'm honoured.
How did I get into BL?
The short answer is that ~2016 the YouTube algorithm served me up Lovesick and I immediately went EXCUSE ME WHAT IS THIS and looked up everything else available and watched literally everything I could get my hands on (which at the time was easy because there was only a handful compared to today, but it still felt like a wealth of content to enjoy).
The longer answer is that I used to be really involved in GL (I was the secretary at the first Yuricon in North America in 2002 or 2003) and then BL manga fandom (was in a scanlation group for awhile) through ~2006? so its extra hilarious that this wasn't my route in; I apparently took a break right before they started making live action versions in Japan. But when I got into Thai BL it was fun rediscovering these tropes in a new medium and through the lens of a new-to-me culture, noticing how they differed and how the genre had matured (and how it hadn't), and on catching up on the stuff out of Japan, seeing some of the manga I read over a decade ago come to life! So I mention this history because it's definitely a part of why I stayed (and probably why the algorithm found me relatively quickly).
I only started tracking things in a spreadsheet in 2020 (and it's not nearly as comprehensive or useful as @absolutebl 's), but I did try to backfill the highlights of what I've seen and I have over 550 rows on there, fwiw. I'm a completionist so I do try to watch everything, though that's getting more and more impossible these days.
Ultimate Favourite Shows
This question is so hard. I know you didn't even give me a limit but you have to understand @lurkingshan, I can't choose favourites, I have a draft top ten list that has been blank for 3 years because I can't commit. Okok. I'm just going to list shows as they come to me (not in any particular order):
Thailand: Until We Meet Again, He's Coming to Me, Diary of Tootsies, WhyRU, Ingredients, Not Me, Secret Crush on You, I Told Sunset About You & I Promised You the Moon, Triage, You're My Sky, Make it Right, La Pluie, My Ride, Bad Buddy, My School President, Laws of Attraction, Moonlight Chicken, Dear Dr I'm Coming for Soul, To Sir With Love/Khun Chai, The Eclipse, Midnight Museum, Lovely Writer... Grey Rainbow [ducks, hides, runs away]
Japan: Doushitemo Furetakunai (no touching at all), Kinou Nani Tabeta (What did you eat yesterday?), Our Dining Table, Takara-Kun and Amagi-Kun, Old Fashioned Cupcake, 7 Days (mon-thurs & fri-sun), His (miniseries & movie), I Want to See Only You, Kieta Hatsukoi/My love mix-up, the Cherry Magic Movie, Life~Senjou no bokura/Love on the Line, 180 Degrees Longitude Passes Through Us, Given (anime is my fave version), Tokyo in April Is..., Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese, Utsukushii Kare/My beautiful man
Korea: Our Dating Sim, Semantic Error, The Lover [BL side], Color Rush, Blueming, Cherry Blossoms After Winter, Love Class 2, Made on the Rooftop, Discipline Z, Light on Me, To My Star (yes both seasons), Strongberry (faves are Long Time No See, Confidential Coffee Break, and A First Love Story), Sing My Crush, Just Friends?
Vietnam: Goodbye Mother, Hey! First Love, Nation's Brother, You Are Ma Boy, Follow My Sunshine, FOOLs, Tien Bromance: My Small Family, Love Bill
Philippines: Gameboys, Gaya sa Pelikula, Boys Lockdown, Cheat [warning: horror], Your Home, Better Days
Taiwan: Be Loved in House, My DNA Says Love You, We Best Love (1 & 2), HIStory (Crossing the Line is my fave, and second fave is...Make Our Days Count [ducks, hides, burrows into ground]).
Other: Summerdaze (short from Singapore), Stay Still (Hong Kong), HeHe and He (Hong Kong, final season in progress but s1&2 are so funny) and the bromances/difficult to categorize: Scumbag System, Word of Honor, The Untamed, Guardian, Coffee Prince, Bromance (Taiwanese), Great Men Academy, Mr Queen, Sleuth of Ming Dynasty, SCI Mystery
*deep breath* ok I'm stopping lol narrowing it down any less than this gives me pain so I won't try. Also I'm sure I forgot something obvious (and Tumblr was eating drafts of this at various points). All I can say about this list is it's under 100 and that's the best I could do.
Thanks for the ask, and to anyone who made it this far thanks for reading!

National Cheese Lovers Day
Chances are you don't just like cheese, you love it. If that's the case, you are in for a treat鈥攖oday is National Cheese Lovers Day! Cheese is made from curds鈥攖he bits of protein that form when milk sours鈥攆rom the milk of cows, goats, sheep, and buffalo. Spices, seasonings, mold, temperature, and age help determine its flavor and texture, and these in turn help determine how it is classified. Common classifications and some examples include fresh cheese like ricotta, soft cheese like feta, semi-soft cheese like Fontina, semi-hard cheese like Gouda, hard cheese like Cheddar, double or triple cr猫me cheese like Brillat-Savarin, blue cheese like Gorgonzola, washed rind cheese like Limburger, and bloomy rind cheese like brie. The name "cheese" comes from the Latin word caseus, which stems from the Proto-Indo-European root kwat, which means "to ferment" or "to become sour."
Cheese dates back to before recorded times. Legend has it that it was first made by accident: an Arabian merchant who was keeping milk in an old sheep stomach found that it had separated into curds and whey. This reaction was caused by heat and from rennet, an enzyme found in the stomach. This was perhaps around 8000 BCE, around the time that sheep were first domesticated.
Cheese became a way to preserve milk before the invention of refrigeration. The curds were strained, and salt was added, which helped it keep longer. Still, cheese had a short shelf life and was made fresh and eaten daily. According to archaeological findings, some of the first intentional cheese making was being done around 5,500 BCE, in the area that is now Poland. Beyond Europe, there is evidence of early cheesemaking being done in the Middle East and Central Asia.
Romans made many different kinds of cheese and making it became a culinary art form. They spread their methods north into Europe, where they were adapted by monks. In Northern Europe, the climate was cooler, so less salt was needed for preservation. This cheese tended to be creamier and milder. Aged, ripened, and blue cheeses also came about in these cooler climates. During the Middle Ages, European cheesemakers originated Parmesan, Gouda, Camembert, and Cheddar.
Mass production of cheese started in 1815 when the first commercial cheese factory opened in Switzerland. Processed cheese, which consists of cheese combined with milk, emulsifiers, stabilizers, flavoring, and coloring, made its debut about a century later. It gained in popularity during the World War II era, becoming more popular than natural cheese. In more recent years, artisan cheesemaking has been making a resurgence.
Cheese is easy to love on its own, but it also goes well with souffl茅s, soups, and pastas, and can be paired with many foods. It many times is also paired with white or red wine. Being that there are so many kinds of cheese, there is plenty of love to spread around. On National Cheese Lovers Day, we eat and enjoy as much cheese as possible.
How to Observe National Cheese Lovers Day
Celebrate National Cheese Lovers Day by eating cheese! Put it on crackers or a sandwich, make yourself a pizza with an extra heaping of it, or eat some nachos. Make your own cheese or try a cheese out of your comfort zone. Buy hard, soft, and blue cheeses, as well as things to pair with them such as grapes, olives, or tomatoes. Don't forget to buy some wine, too. If you are feeling creative, you could design a cheese board. Let your cheese sit out for a half an hour at room temperature to give it a better texture and flavor. Then, enjoy it with your friends, perhaps at a cheese party at your home. To burn off some of those cheese calories, you could get yourself moving and visit a cheese factory or plan a trip to a cheese festival.
