I think more people (me) should stop using Ravens and other corvids to act as omen's of death when doing a symbolism and start using Pīwakawaka as omens of the death instead.

Male cardinals are at their reddest now during courting and before the hardships of parenting. You can see them at a distance even in the woods and when they show up in the garden they're by far the brightest color there.

They also during some times of the year do great big swoops over the trees to show off to potential mates, and at other times get so drunk on fermenting fruit that they fall under the trees and lie out on the lawn with mates.
