The men I've been with have this idea to make me over. I feel like a rock in some boy's polishing kit. I go in dull, scratched up, and then rumble rumble whirr, I'm supposed to come out precious and sparkling again.
Something that is never mentioned when talking about people that speak more than one language is the fact that no matters how high level we are, we have absolutely no idea what is the appropriate kind of language given any situation.
Idk, maybe it's just me, but I'm technically supposed to be c1 in English, yet I can't tell the difference between slang and fancy Shakespearean posh old English
I think the most frustrating thing about the start of learning a language is trying to understand videos, tv shows made by native speakers and you realize you just CANT for now.
Like, it's normal to not understand, i only know like not even 100 words im at the basics but you're trying to search some vloggers you find them but you don't know if you're really learning by watch this italian video in english subtitles w native speaking for 10 minutes.
I'm trying to read Italians subtitles but it's IMPOSSIBLE to understand a thing, I only can heard the word ragazzi haha but i think it's ok i'm trying to make my routine by listening at least 30 minutes of italian i think i should also try it by italians newspapers. maybe 5 minutes per day ? highlight every words i'm able to understand for now and keep it for later in my study.
I also found this girl on tiktok, she's living in bolognese, seems she's been learning italian for a while now but people still says that her accent is not good. I'm like wtf, I see that this girl speaks a good italian and it's still not enough ? she's still trying to learn grammar, conjugation, etc. I'm thinking about when should i learn this? I know the very basic conjugation but it seems to have a lot of things when you start to learn this.
I hope I will survive at this !! I can't wait to be able to understand videos by natives. By making these short stories, I'm realizing the most that i miss in english is vocabulary. I keep reusing the same words im sorry for those who reads me i will try to be better in the future!
We perhaps depend too often on the faulty honor of silence... like some fault-ridden patch of ground that shakes and threatens a violence but then just falls in upon itself, cascading softly and evenly down its own private fissure until tightly filled up again.

Does anyone realize how hyucking confusing the word "statue" is??? I'm a native speaker with dyslexia and a visual memory who forgot how to spell the word "Statue". It's so goddamn confusing trying to remember the spelling Consciencely when the pronunciation is so different from the spelling. Like it's pronounced {staah-chew} but is spelt like it's pronounced {stah-too}. That's SO CONFUSING.
Nobody should be using GPT detectors for anything important.
This is from a recent study that found that GPT detectors were misclassifying writing by non-native English speakers as AI-generated 48-76% of the time (!!!), compared to 0%-12% for native speakers.
It is irresponsible to use AI-generated text detectors as evidence of academic misconduct, and that's putting it mildly.
Native Speakerism has effects that are far-reaching , influencing our interactions, opportunities, and perceptions in reflective ways. It doesn’t sound really nice when there are cases where people, born and grew up in a country and even have its passport, still struggle with their own language. Surprisingly, despite these confusing situations, there are cases of strong biases favoring native speakers on social media.
