i finally cleared out iron island with riley, grabbed the riolu egg, and beat byron by using earthquake four times with my hippowdon LMAO
anyways after leaving the gym the story progresses, i am dragged to the library by barry to meet up with rowan and lucas and talk about catching the lake trio to try to learn more about pokemon evolution (or lack thereof) or whatever, and uhh. the Big Explosion happens
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this whole bit of the game always kinda freaks me out. like i'm fine, it's just fairly startling for a pokemon game and like... specifically the bit about barry desperately turning to the TV to find out what happened.
i have been in an earthquake once in my life, and we don't get earthquakes here ever so it was pretty shocking and my family had no idea what to do in the situation, so we foolishly ran outside during the earthquake which you aren't supposed to do. thankfully we were all unharmed, it was actually a pretty small earthquake, but shocking nonetheless. after it was over we all went back inside and i remember being very upset and confused while my mom was yelling at the TV like, "THERE WAS JUST AN EARTHQUAKE!! REPORT ON IT!!" because yknow it takes a few minutes for the breaking news to hit the air. so it just really hits a spot tbh it's a decently realistic scene. i remember being very frightened to navigate my house for a couple weeks, like anything could be a hazard or start shaking under me, including stairs... idk it's just kind of a wild scene to have in a pokemon game it brings up feelings LOL (btw that pixel art of the TV broadcast is SUPER nice i wish my picture of it was clearer)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the denial of anything serious going on is also nuts??? is team galactic trying to spread the false information that everything is fine?? y'all SAW the smoke!! and also ROWAN im like 10 or whatever but OKAY!!! SURE
Tumblr media
bro ur literally asking me to be the hero pretty much idk what u expect to happen when i get there but it's not gonna be good LOL

hey, I know there's a lot going on right now but I want to make a post about a recent tragedy that's happened here in Brazil
tl;dr: heavy storms caused floods and landslides in some cities in São Paulo, and many people are in need of help after losing their homes. If you're in Brazil, you can donate food, clothes and other necessary items
Last weekend, during Carnaval, the northern coast of the state of São Paulo was struck by very heavy storms, which resulted in terrible floods and landslides, specially in poor areas
Because of this, many people lost their homes or are currently unable to access them, and are having to stay in shelters. There are also searches being conducted in the affected areas as many people are still missing, and the death toll is rising each day, which means many people have lost their family, friends and loved ones or may be separated from them
All of this is to say, São Paulo needs help. Shelters need a lot of resources to take care of everyone who's unhoused, and people who still have their homes may still need donations as a lot has been lost and not everyone is able to buy more food, new clothes, etc, specially if they also have to worry about rebuilding or fixing any part of their house, etc
If you're in Brazil and are able to donate food, clothes, personal hygiene objects or anything else necessary to campaigns in the places affected, please do. I'm not sure if there's any way currently to donate if you're not here, but if there is, please let me know
If there's any links to campaigns that I can add to this post, also let me know
Sources [all in portuguese]: one (talking about the tragedy), two (city hall of São Sebastião), three (images, also has outdated situation of the roads), four (how to help)

I didn't live like in the highest impact area of the 2020 Midwest derecho but I lived pretty close to it and I gotta say the most insane thing about it is how little I heard people talking about it. Like there was some coverage and maybe one or two posts going around but it did not get that much coverage at all. Which is bizarre when it like practically leveled entire areas and I still see some of the damages from it to this day several years later

OOC: A quick warning that we're having another cyclone (I fucking hate this place) between Wednesday and Thursday. There's no guarantee I'll be safe or I won't be without power for who knows how long. So I just hope nothing happens. I survived the one from last month except that there was water inside my ceiling (we fixed that), but winds might be stronger this time so yeah things can become very complicated very quickly. If I disappear you know.

little reminder to keep the people impacted by hurricane hilary in your thoughts and prayers. we're getting some of the effects of it, but nothing compared to the people in southern california and parts of nevada and it's bad enough here. hoping everything turns out okay for everyone at risk!

THE TORNADO(?) OF AUGUST 10TH, 1987
the first person to witness it was rick lipton who swore that the tornado started to form in the middle of lovers lake right behind their house. while it was a compelling tale, no one really believed them. brushed it off considering their past — but it’s not exactly far off from the truth.
by the time people in hawkins heard the sirens, it was almost too late. people filing into starcourt mall, melvad’s general, the police station, and the newly reopened library.
it’s not that it’s exactly random that the tornado happened, it’s just that it’s not one people have seen before — it’s big, and red, and if you look closely… there seems to be something swarming it. but, it’s raining too hard to tell.
the town of hawkins swears if the tornado doesn’t wipe them out then all the water from the rain will. is it a hurricane ? theories get tossed around, but that doesn’t make sense. what kind of freak storm is this ? for a town full of mysteries and conspiracies this one is by far the most puzzling.
tldr: without warning, a tornado threatens the town of hawkins, indiana causing its residents to seek shelter in various areas around. these include the starcourt mall, melvald’s general store, the police station, and hawkin’s newly re-opened library. and while storms are nothing new, this one is somehow... different. people are worried about their safety, and at the same time they’re wondering what in the hell actually caused this storm to brew.
admin note: YAY for event 003 !!! please head over to the discord to view your character’s locations and a little something more...

Heather was a miracle child for her parents. They were married a few years and were trying to have a kid, but nothing was working. Finally, her mom discovered she was pregnant and they had Heather on July 29th, 1962.
Growing up, she was spoiled endlessly by her father. She would get whatever she asked for and would scream happily when he’d come home from work. She wanted nothing more than to be like him and would do fake news articles to show him, which was deemed cute at the time.
While things looked picture perfect on the outside, things weren’t like that on the inside of the family. She doesn’t remember when the shift was, but her parents started arguing more and more. Her dad was staying at work later and her mom was tired of being a stay at home mom. She was drinking more often and they would fight about that. Heather remembers hiding in her room while they fought as a kid, working on her fake news articles to calm her dad down.
As she became a teen, Heather wanted to start a path of becoming a journalist. She brought up joining the school newspaper, but her father suggested cheerleading instead. Because she wanted to make him happy, she did that instead. While she liked it and grew close to her fellow cheerleaders, she wished she was in the news room instead. The only thing she felt like she was doing for herself that the truly, full heartedly enjoyed was when she started working as a lifeguard and its the one thing she’s kept over the years.
When she graduated, life became complicated. She wanted to go to college for journalism, but again, her father didn’t want it. Instead, she continued working as a lifeguard and ended up working as a assistant to someone at city hall because her dad was friends with him and the mayor. This was all under the plan that she would quit once she met someone and was going to get married so she could be a housewife like her mother; something she never wanted to be.
Things in her life started to feel boring. While she would go out on dates and still go to parties with her friends without her dad ever finding out because he would call it very “unladylike of her”, her day to day life was boring and she rarely went on dates with guys she actually liked.
Things changed the summer of 1985 when she properly met Billy Hargrove. The two started seeing each other and she really liked him. It was never serious, but it was something she liked. Before the Fourth of July, things started to feel different with him. He was acting strange and while he was a hit with her parents, everything wasn’t right and she couldn’t quite place it. Then, after the tragedy at the mall on the Fourth, she found out he was one that died in the mall and she was heartbroken that her friend and the guy she did like died.
Her father saw she was grieving and wanted to help her move on, so he did what any father would do and set her up with the new guy at work. While Eric was a nice guy, Heather didn’t really see it going anywhere and felt like she was just dating him to appease her dad. However, December came and they spent Christmas together and in front of her family, her proposed. Unsure what to do and scared to say no in front of her parents, she said yes.
From there, things seemed to tumble out of her control. She quit her job at city hall and with her mom and Eric’s when she came to town, she was planning a wedding and getting a dress and setting a date for the end of March, which was months away. She felt panicked and scared and she didn’t know what to do. Suddenly, she was having a house with a yard and soon another ring on her finger and she was panicking all the way down the aisle as she said ‘I do’.
However, the day she had dreaded ended with confusion and fear and relief. It was hours after the wedding and with everything going on in town, her father barely got a hold of the photographer from the paper and they were outside the library getting photos done with the earthquake hit. Eric, seeing the line coming, pushed Heather out of the way and her father grabbed her. In the process, Eric succumbed to the strangeness of the Earthquake and passed.
Everything after that moment felt strange to her. She was sad, yes, that a nice guy lost his life, but she felt relieved. While she was a widow, she felt relief she didn’t have to be a wife. However, she had to put on an act around her family and Eric’s when they came for the funeral. And because she was married, even for a short time, she inherited all this stuff and had a house that should be for a family, so she opened it up for people to live with her.
With her father actually letting her grieve, Heather actually hasn’t dated anyone since her wedding. She doesn’t wear her wedding ring or the engagement one anymore. She keeps them put up in the back of a drawer. She’s trying to focus on herself and her friends and just getting back to things and that’s all she wants. She hopes now maybe she can secretly take journalism classes so she can do what she wants to, but for now, being a lifeguard and employee at Melvald’s is fine to her.
                                          wanted connections //
Friends - those she grew up being friends with or new ones she’s met.
Roommates - she had a big house all to herself and needs roommates.
Exes - those she dated in high school or throughout her twenties.
Hook-ups - anyone she’s had a night or more with.
Enemies - those who don’t care for her.
Secret Half-Sibling - I have an idea that her dad wasn’t exactly faithful and she may have a half-sibling she doesn’t know about out there.

how does your muse handle loneliness? // does your muse suffer from nightmares? how often? what about?
☆  how does your muse handle loneliness ?
not well , that’s for damn sure . of course , rhys would argue the opposite ; he’d tell you he’s just fine , thank you very much , and have you seen the southside crew lately ? have you been to his pops’ house when , by some miracle , all the kids have off ? he’d argue it’s impossible to feel lonely , not with so many of his friends , his family around . and he’d be lying . he’s a romantic ; he’s always wanted to settle down , to share his life with somebody . it was why he’d proposed to his high school sweetheart so young , barely twenty - two , and why he’d been so heart - broken after she left with the ring and his peace of mind . no , loneliness pushes him even further into himself , nudges him toward the bottle he’s already got a pre - disposition to seek out . it manifests in sleepless nights in an empty bed , pillowcases that smell like whiskey and cigarettes . it pushes him to work , to throw himself into every menial task as a distraction until he’s too exhausted not to sleep , much less to think about the fact he’ll be stumbling into his sheets alone . he spent most of his twenties this way , working himself to the bone and trying to convince everyone around him ( and himself ) that he was better off alone . turns out , that’s real hard to do in a big , empty house .
☆  does your muse suffer from nightmares ? how often ? what about ?
sure , he does . rhys doesn’t remember his dreams too often , but when he does , it’s often because they’re nightmares . most of them involve some sort of impending natural disaster , be it a tornado or an earthquake or a snowstorm , and an inability to find or help his family before it hits . they’re always just out of reach , too far for legs that he can’t get to move toward them because it’s as if they’re made of cement , or he can hear their voices calling his name but can’t find them . they’re not always so vague , either , or so symbolic ; it’s been years , but every now and then , his dreams will still be plagued by the memory of child protective services threatening to take a young dylan and elliot away from him , only in his nightmares , the threats have been actualized and they’re banging on the door to come snatch up his siblings while he’s helpless to do anything to stop them . those nights , rhys wakes in a cold sweat to the sounds of elliot shouting and dylan sobbing still ringing in his ears . the older he gets , the more infrequent the nightmares become , but they’re still ever - present , and they show up at least a couple of times a month , often when he’s the most stressed or has spent days teetering on the verge of a full - blown panic attack .

Yua ⚘ Character Backstory
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
⚘ TWs: Very brief mentions of violence, deaths, natural disaster ⚘ Character is still pending approval and may be subject to change!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
[ORIGIN]
Yua’s father was the eldest son of an iron-fisted aristocratic family that held a high standing in the mainland. He was a prodigy in the field of cartography and navigation, though once he was scouted as a young man by an early Korean naval fleet, he quickly fled toward a more freeing life of piracy as Captain Yeonsu’s sailing master. Yua’s mother, a young dryad/naiad hybrid who only sought peace amongst all species inhabiting the island, was forebode by the older nymphs to set foot near the invasive humans when they first attempted to settle on Jeju's sands. Amidst the later days of the pre-treaty violence, the two stumbled across each other and quickly fell in love, meeting in secrecy to keep their relationship hidden from all, even after the initial end of the bloodshed.
With the fragile newfound peace brought about by the treaty, the couple still remained painfully aware that their hopes to one day start a family amongst the other islanders were nothing more than fleeting dreams. They harrowed at the idea of their offspring having to fight every day to stay hidden, torn between choosing a single parent and identity- forced never to publicly associate with the other. In the beginning they tried simply waiting it out, praying to whichever gods would listen that the high tensions and discrimination would eventually simmer down, but they never did. After the first few rocky months under the treaty passed without much improvement, Yua’s restless father devised a plan. With the knowledge of his lover and the aid of a few old battle schematics, he’d managed to successfully map out the entirety of the island. After some more careful planning, they settled on a secluded wetland, where the couple could start fresh on their own terms. In the dead of a full moon’s night, despite the looming danger from the sea, the two commandeered a small supply vessel and stockpiled as many rations as possible on board, before hastily sailing off to the opposite side of Jeju.
After months of hard work, they'd built their own private paradise in the wetland. Using materials from the deconstructed ship- and a little nymph magic- the couple had crafted a safe home high within the thick treetops. Their first and only child was born shortly after, spawning from a unique new bundle of tiny ferns, and appearing as any other inconspicuous human infant. Having never seen such precious little plants before, her mother instantly knew the child was unique to the island. They named the baby Mankyua, and upon Yua’s birth, everything was finally as they had longed for together. It seemed as though their prayers had been answered.
Then the storm hit, a terrible typhoon which only grazed the wetland's face, however that alone was enough to rattle the earth under the new family's tranquil home. A rogue lightning strike rocketed down from the thundering gloomy sky above, striking a tall tree a ways down the forest and casting it ablaze. Despite the heavy rains and her parent’s best efforts, the fire could not be contained as it continued to burn ever closer to their home- and to Yua’s ferns. In a last ditch effort to protect her family, Yua’s mother raced off into the blazing night, walling off what scorched greenery remained with a barrier of rapidly growing Itajii trees. Though she would never return, she had successfully fended off the fire. This left Yua’s already aging human father to raise her on his own, while still recovering from such a great loss. Decades later he too passed, peacefully from old age in his sleep. When little Yua discovered his body, she fell to her knees and cried at his side, sobbing as she witnessed his form slowly become enveloped by the same Itajii branches that once protected their land. From then on, Yua grew and lived off her surroundings in solitude, never straying too far from home as per her parents wishes. That is until she stumbled upon a hidden stash of aging curios while fixing up her attic.
Following the discovery, Yua spent a majority of her days studying the antiques and relics from the attic, most of which belonged to her father. Tools, trinkets, weaponry- but without fail, what always caught her eyes were the tattered, dusty old hand drawn maps. She would follow them along the many beaches of the island, unearthing long forgotten supply caches left by the original pirate crew both before and after the days of the treaty. Over the coming years, she’d grow bolder, explore farther from the wetlands, and occasionally stumble across deceased explorers during her many expeditions. She'd loot their corpses and bring their wares back home to evaluate, slowly accumulating collections of each bygone eras' histories. It wasn't long before she finally stumbled across a civilization, the first she’d ever seen; a still developing Hanjeong. Yua knew that both her mother and father had greatly feared the others here, yet as she watched them carefully, she struggled to find any lingering danger. Still, honoring her parent's wishes, she kept her distance while remaining ever curious about all the strange beings who called the little town their home. Every now and then she'd stop by, only to distantly observe what new developments the dwellers had made before making the long trek back to the wetlands. Each time she turned away, a pressing desire to reach out burned through her. It seemed her will to remain hidden was growing weaker by the day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[MODERN DAY]
Yua wipes the midday sweat from her brow- the trip to Hanjeong was always a long and harsh one, but it was certainly worth the effort to her. She cautiously surveys the lively town from a cliffside, her heart beating in her ears. The dwellers always made so much progress between each of her visits, and it was endlessly fascinating to see what that kind of community could do. She can still imagine her father’s voice, recollecting his many bloody tales of the townsfolk of his time. He so often pleaded with her not to leave the safety of the forests, his echoey warnings still drilled into her mind after all this time, and yet… here she was. Watching as another, newer generation of dwellers carried on with their day to day lives. She tried to remember how it felt to hold another’s hand, what the warmth was like. It must’ve been much softer than the blistering sun, or so she imagines. Her narrowed gaze shifts to a group of children from the North Side as they frolic and dance together, running past their vibrant art pavilion with youthful glee. Packed with her trusty rucksack full of assorted goods, Yua took a step back, then forward, then another step back again. Perhaps they have had enough time to change. Perhaps they would even take kindly to trading with her. She adjusts the heavy straps on her shoulders, watching as the children happily call out to their parents. She knew she couldn't stay tucked away in the wetlands forever. After all, it was only a matter of time before they expanded deeper into the island. Perhaps it was best to act now, to see for herself just how dangerous these dwellers really were…
closed starter for @hawkinschrissy at the hospital
It was funny to Heather how many flocked to the hospital after the storm finally passed. Outside of those who had to go there for there injuries, everyone else it seemed, no matter where they were at, seemed to go there to check in on those they cared about and to hopefully see someone they knew who they were separated from during the storm. She didn’t know if anyone was missing or if anyone had died, so it was already better than the last big event that took over the town, but here they all were, taking care of their own like the town seemed to do after something like this.
She had been talking to people and of course heard what happened at other locations. The weird bats at the mall, the gusts of wind that trapped people in the police station with cars, and of course, the flooding of Melvald’s. Her thoughts went to Chrissy and how she hadn’t seen her yet. She knew her friend had been working that day. Actually, she was supposed to go in and work the closing shift but obviously couldn’t make it. So, she scanned the people at the hospital every time she saw a new group until finally she had seen Chrissy and she ran over to her. “Chrissy! Thank god. I heard about the flood. Are you okay?” She asked and started looking her over.
