Keep Walking Intently - Second Walk

I’ve chosen to study Hamish Fulton, an English ‘Walking Artist’ who has only produced work regarding his experiences with walking. I find it interesting that his theoretical approach contrasts with Richard Long’s. According to the Tate website, rather than him leaving marks from his walks, Fulton sees his walks as leaving marks upon him. Fulton stated, “A walk has a life of its own and does not need to be materialised into a work of art. An artwork cannot represent the experience of a walk [...] I attempt to ‘leave no trace.’”

I find this way of thinking fascinating and relatable as I believe that the effects an experience like walking can take on someone, whether physically or psychologically, is important as well. Fulton portrays his experiences through a variety of media such as illustrations, photography, and wall texts in which he describes his walks in poetic descriptions.“A walk has a life on its own and does not need to be materialised into an artwork. Artwork may be purchased but a walk cannot be sold.” I find this statement quite inspiring and it’s a unique take. Fulton’s idea and way of presenting his work is why I’ve chosen him to take inspiration from.

For my most recent walk, I wandered around the area nearby Warren Street and Regent's Park. Due to the days being shorter, it was already getting dark by the time I began my walk at around 6 pm. It really affected the ambience and atmosphere of the scenery. The clear polished windows of the glass buildings and skyscrapers gleamed with lights from the inside. I’ve always been very fond of nighttime city scenery as it gives me a sense of peace. Already I could feel the effects the experience of this walk was having on me, which was a positive and uplifting one.

The warmly illuminated greenery meticulously placed in between large buildings on either side was an aesthetically pleasing touch. I admired the modernity of the area with its subtle touches of nature. The natural life added more life to the already vibrant area. As I continued to walk within the maze of buildings, I walked past a crowd of people seemingly having a party. To be a passerby in a lively area was interestingly calming, and to watch from a distance further influenced this sense of ease I felt within me. I took pictures as I went along, each area of interest having induced a gratifying feeling by just its visuals.

Chiropractor Treatment Costs

Many people consider chiropractors as doctors "charlatans." However, many swear by the relief that has brought them to visit a chiropractor. For those who do not know, a chiropractor is someone who tries to fix various body conditions by placing the bones and joints in their "proper" alignment. The costs of chiropractic treatment may vary due to several factors:

1) Distance: Most chiropractors prefer to practice in their clinics, although some do home visits. The costs of chiropractic treatment often increase with the distance a chiropractor must travel in the event of a home visit. Of course, this is due to the fact that chiropractors have to spend money to get to a house.

The distance also refers to the accessibility of the chiropractor. The costs of chiropractic treatment are increased if the chiropractor is easily accessible. Some who have clinics out of the way may charge lower fees for the simple reason that their inaccessibility reduces the number of their clients.

2) Medicine: the cost of the medication that the chiropractor uses also affects the cost of the treatment. It often happens that a chiropractor does not prescribe a conventional medication, but uses herbal or complementary medications. What you should know is the fact that there is often no fixed price on this type of medication. Some medications are seasonal and, therefore, prices change. The costs of chiropractic treatment often vary with the medication.

3) Nature of the treatment: different chiropractors take different approaches to heal the ailments of a patient. The nature of the recommended remedy also affects the cost of chiropractic treatment. Some chiropractors may try to remedy a problem using massage.

Some chiropractors use heat therapy to correct any problems a patient has. Others use water therapy to relax the stress felt by a patient that is causing the disease. Still other chiropractors make use of acupuncture to heal an ailment.

Depending on the nature and difficulty of the treatment, the cost of the chiropractor can be very cheap or very expensive. Some chiropractic treatments use x-rays and ultrasound to determine what is wrong. These procedures can add a little more to the cost of chiropractic treatment.

Understanding Urgent Care Clinics

In the last 40 years, urgent care clinics (UC) have grown rapidly as an alternative resource for people who need outpatient care. With more hours of accommodation than most primary care physicians and more affordable rates than trips to emergency rooms, these clinics provide an intermediary for those seeking suitable medical care for less serious illnesses or injuries. The following sections describe what services you will find at these clinics and how those services differ from an emergency room, as well as what you can expect to experience during your visit.

The basics

Perhaps its defining characteristic, an urgent care facility provides treatment without an appointment. A previous appointment is not necessary to request attention. However, you can call before you arrive if you wish. Although clinics generally do not offer 24-hour service, most maintain an extended operating schedule, opening early and closing late seven days a week.

Urgent care is better equipped to help remedy life-threatening ailments and minor traumas. The range of treatment options available at a clinic may vary, but for a facility to be certified it must provide on-site diagnostic services. This includes, but is not limited to:

· Standard EKG

· Blood work test

· Intravenous procedures

· X-rays.

Clinics can also prescribe medications and sew moderate lacerations.

ER vs. Urgent Care

The CDC estimates that around the country, about 40 percent of emergency room visits are for issues that could better treat emergency care clinics. The ER is a 24-hour hospital service available for immediate medical intervention in life-threatening emergencies. Using it for anything less is inappropriate for a couple of reasons.

First, emergency rooms treat people with the most serious conditions first. Anyone who visits the emergency room for less urgent problems can expect a considerable wait. Several studies have estimated that the average wait in an ER is between 3-4 hours. For overcrowded municipal hospitals, the wait will be even longer. On the other hand, UC work according to the order of arrival, with significantly reduced waiting times.

Next, the ER bills are not cheap, and if an insurer considers that a visit was not a real emergency, a person can end up paying almost completely out of pocket. With urgent care clinics, many insurers provide coverage regardless of the nature of the problem, and patient co-payments can be as low as $ 20. But be sure to check your personal or family plan to make sure the provisions for UC facilities.

What to expect

In many ways, an appointment with a UC clinic is very similar to visiting your primary care doctor. The waiting rooms are comfortable and registration is easy. When they call you, an assistant will accompany you to a private area where your vital signs are taken. Then, a consultation with the doctor and any subsequent treatment that may be needed. Fully trained nurses and doctors, specially trained in urgent care practices, are prepared to handle both adults and children. After medical care has been provided, you exchange insurance information with the administrative staff, clear the copay billing and can quickly be on the way.
