Shutter Speed (Part 2)
Tumblr media
Jack Champion x Photographer!Reader
Part 2/3
☁︎ Fluff
Summary: y/n is a photographer for the new scream promo and Jack thinks she belongs in front of the camera rather than behind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Y/N POV)
"Look who decided to show up!" I hear Jenna say but I am too occupied in taping marks on the floor to turn around. Leah goes over to introduce herself, welcome the late cast to the shoot and explain the plan and rules.
"You must be Y/N?" I hear my name and stand up to correct the voice. "I'm Leah, she's Y/N." Leah turns to me as I appear next to them.
“Woah…I mean Jack, I’m hi.” The boy in front of me stutters. “No! I mean Hi, I am Jack. Sorry for being late.” I hold back a small laugh and smile. “Are you sure you’re Jack? I mean the name ‘hi’ might suit you more.” I jest. “I’m Y/N, did Leah go over all the rules? Are there any questions?” My voice moves back into professional mode as we have a lot of work to do today.
(JACK'S POV)
"You totally played that off man" Mason chuckles behind me, pulling me out of the trance that this Y/N has put me in. I feel my face heating up and I can't tell if its the multitude of lights in here or her stare that burned through my heart. God snap out of it, Jack, you have to do your job today.
I watch Y/N fall into her element and do what, I can tell that, she loves. She is mesmerizing.
"Stop drooling, she may run away" I hear Jenna whisper to me and before I can defend myself, "Umm... next I need Jack Champion over here on the blue mark please" You need me? Ok say less, I joke to myself to calm my nerves. I keep my eyes on the floor to ensure I don't trip but also so that I won't turn into a blushing mess if she looks at me. God, this is the first time I've been glad these lights are this bright.
I follow her instructions, her voice is music to my ears. It's like I am under a spell. A love spell? No lets not get ahead of ourselves. Wait, she's staring at me.
"Jack? Do you wanna see one of the photos?" Leah suggests from the side of the room, trying to break the awkward silence between the two of us. "Oh sure!" I stumble over wires to stand next to her. "No, go over to Y/N, she'll show you how everything works and how the images will be edited after the shoot."
(Y/N POV)
I give Leah a panicked look before Jack turns to walk over. His curls bounce as he hops over the leg of the tripod. "Oh you are tall." I say without thinking. "Oh yeah, but so are you." He answers looking down at me. "It's probably my shoes." I laugh, "Did you wanna see the photos?" I bring up the subject to make sure I don't say anything I may regret.
"Do you enjoy being a photographer?" Jack inquires. That sets me off. I could talk for hours about photography.
"I have loved it since I was 10 and I could not imagine persuading any other career. I am constantly thinking of photo shoots whenever I leave my house. Wall of graffiti? Photo shoot idea. Aesthetic shampoo bottle? Photo shoot idea. I am constantly inspired by everything around me which means my job can be difficult when I am given a strict brief but luckily, whoever hired us, gave us full creative freedom." I wave my arms around for emphasis. But too much emphasism as I almost hit Jack. He swerves and giggles, luckily.
"Oh shit, I am so sorry." I cringe and look back to the camera screen. "It's ok, Y/N" The way he says my name makes a swarm of butterflies flutter in me. I look up into his eyes. Brown eyes used to freak me out because it is more difficult to see the pupil, but maybe I like them a bit more now. Maybe he can help me like other things too. Ew, don't get carried away or you will scare him off.
After our stares last a beat too long, Leah clears her throat and alerts the group that we will now be moving to an outside shoot. She tells them to go back to the changing rooms to get out of their costumes and into the brand we are shooting with for the second part of the day. While they leave, Leah and I start to collect the equipment we are bringing. I grab my notebook for the checklist.
"You are doing great Y/N, especially with a certain someone." Leah raises her eyebrows and winks at me. I roll my eyes and walk over to turn off some of the bigger lights.
(JACK'S POV)
As the group walks to change, I see Jenna and Mason standing by the doors. They are sharing a similar look towards me, it's kinda freaking me out. "He totally does!" "Yep, I can see it in his eyes." I roll my eyes at their odd behavior and attempt to walk past them. "Oh no Mister."
They drag me out of the studio and into the hallway. "Man, when I said charm them with your good looks, I sorta hoped you would also charm her with the rest of you." Mason starts. "Yeah, we knew you were awkward, but not this bad. I wanted to claw my eyes out!" Jenna exclaims rather loudly.
"Could you be any louder? And it wasn't that bad, and I am not flirting!" I shout in a whisper. "No one said you were flirting, except you." Jenna retorts. "We've exposed you without even trying" Mason shouts to annoy me again. "Fine, she's really beautiful and she is really passionate about her job which is kinda cute and-"
"Ok lover boy relax, you don't need to go into detail." Jenna cuts me off with a look of both disgust and happiness, so I know she is just being sarcastic. "We will help you get this girl of your dreams" Mason adds. I can't tell if this is a bad idea but I nod and walk to the changing rooms to make sure I am not late again.
When we are all re-dressed, the cast starts to follow Leah out but I look for Y/N. I see her pacing back and forth, looking rather stressed. I don't know if me going over will make it worse. But I don't have time to decide as two pairs of hands push me towards her.
"Y/N, are you ok? Have you lost something?" "Yes! My notebok. It has all my plans and lists inside. I really need it. Like right now. Is it hot in here? Or is it just me?" She panics. "Ok, you need to sit down before you faint or something goes wrong."
I reach for her hand and gently guide her to sit next to me. I scan the room for a notebook before asking her any questions. She keeps a hold of my hand and I have to pretend not to notice or I might be the one to faint. "Is it that green thing over there?"
(Y/N'S POV)
"Oh my god! Yes it is!" I jump up and grab it. When I turn around, I am again faced with Jack's chest. I look up at him and smile. I feel weirdly calm after that whole anxiety filled fiasco, maybe it's because of Jack?
"Thank you Jack, I think I would've died without this." I try to laugh. "That's ok, I think we need to go now though, I know you have quite a strict schedule for today." He responds.
Jack offers to hold some equipment to make sure I can see where I am going over the pile of objects. When we leave the building I see the other cast members grabbing or putting away stuff in their cars so I take my kit back from Jack to allow him to do the same. I walk over to Leah to let her know I found the notebook.
"I was going to come back to help you but I heard a certain someone calming you down." She says as I stand next to her. "He is definitely your type, isn't he? Tall, lanky-" I cut her off "Yes Leah you don't need to continue. I can't let a silly crush get in the way of today though. It's not even a crush! I've not even known him for five minuets! All I know is his name." I say so fast I almost run out of breath.
"Let's get going while the sun is still out." I shout to the group.
(This is the photoshoot that inspired this series so you can vision this location and photoshoot style)
Tumblr media
(TIME SKIP + STILL Y/N POV)
We have been talking photos outside in both groups and alone. It's so sunny outside that no lights are needed, just portable reflectors. Which are big circles of materials that bounce the sun in a chosen direction. Leah and I split up for the last half an hour as we have different ideas due to the location and lighting right now. Some of the cast have moved away to film TikToks and to stand in the shade but some are continuing to model for us if they have less photos than others.
I noticed Jack had finished talking to Mason and Jenna before he started walking over to me.
"Hey Y/N! Is there any last ideas in your notebook?" He asks.
"Oh just this one." I start. "Because of the harsh sun I am are able to play around with different filters on my camera. One of my favorite makes stars in light reflections, would you try out over here?" My hands are shaking as I hand him a small square of mirrored glass.
We mess around for a while, me running back and forth to show him how to pose, how to angle the mirror to reflect light and to show him the results. After a while I am so out of breath that Jack finds it funny.
As the sun starts to go down, the cast all joins up for the last photo including Leah and I for our Instagram. We all start walking back slightly delirious due to the amount of running around some of us had been doing. Jack is walking next to me, at the back of the group, continuing one of our random conversations from earlier.
"You are really talented Y/N, I know you have probably been told that a lot today, but you really are." Jack says in a slight hushed tone. I can't control the big smile on my face. He is such a genuine human being. "Thank you for being a wonderful model." I laugh.
I notice him glance ahead at the group before slowing down and truing to me. "I don't know if i have read this situation wrong but I think you are beautiful and I get feel like we get along so well even though we haven't known each other that long and I am rambling aren't I?" He looks down at his feet and rakes a deep breath.
"I was wondering if you wanted to go out on a date with me?" He finally looks me in the eye as he says this. "Wow Jack, of course I will. I don't think someone has made me laugh this much, apart from myself obviously" I jest. We trade numbers as we catch up with the group.
After the cast all go their separate ways, Leah and I burst out into screams of happiness. "MY BEST FRIEND IS GOING ON A DATE WITH A HOT, FAMOUS PERSON WHOOOOOP" Leah shouts as we skip around the car park, arms linked.

— [shut it]
featuring: k. bakugou
cw: smut, porn without plot, swearing, tiny bit of overstim, cockwarming, slightly rough fucking, jealousy, katsuki’s a lil mean (makes reader say thank you), implied nudes/photography. wc: 825.
Tumblr media
katsuki has you sitting on his cock as a punishment, holding your hips so tight that you can’t move. throbbing inside of your heat, but staying still as a statue. you’re faced towards the tv, though not paying much attention to it, while he’s on his phone doing god knows what.
you’re whining and pleading for him to let you cum or at least move a little, but no. he feels like being an asshole today.
“stop squirming so much, actin’ like you didn’t ask for this,” he grumbles out, “tha’ stunt you pulled today with deku, yer’ lucky i ain’t makin you watch me jerk off or somethin’.”
fuck no. as tempting as it sounds, you know he wouldn’t let you touch yourself until he cums in his fist and leaves you to finish yourself off.
“please baby- i can’t-“ you stutter out. he smacks your ass so hard you almost double over onto the floor below, “shut it.”
-
an hour and 30 minutes. it’s been almost 2 hours since either of you have said a word. still, his cock is sunk deep inside of your pussy, and at this point you don’t know how much longer you can take. your clit’s pulsing, and you're sure that one small touch to the nub could have you cumming immediately.
you attempt to look back at your boyfriend, only seeing him staring straight ahead at the movie playing on tv.
9:00 pm, it’s officially been two hours.
the credits begin rolling as the movie ends, and katsuki finally looks into your teary eyes, his face showing no sign of sympathy for your shaking form.
“m’ gonna fuck you now. don’t you dare think of it as some sorta reward, jus’ doing it cause my movies over.”
before you even have time to process his words, his dick begins pounding your cunt relentlessly. the only thing holding your body upright is his hands still firmly planted on your hips.
“holy shit- fuck kats-“ you pant, finally feeling some relief.
“don’t get used to it- fuck- if i ever catch you offerin’ that bastard anything- shit baby-“ he rasps, unable to finish his threat.
“it was j-just lunch-“ you retort shakily, “not like i was gonna fuck him.”
he snaps. lifting you up briefly and throwing your limp body on the couch below, ass up with his hand in your hair, forcing your face into the cushion.
“an’ you don’t think he would pull somethin’? that boy has liked you since he first saw you, only i had the balls to do somethin’ bout it.” he explains quickly, as he pushes his cock back into your sopping cunt. “godamn- you may not, but i know damn well he’d try whatever to get a feel at this sweet pussy.”
“fuuuuck-“ you moan, eyes rolling back into your head. “i- but i wouldn’t let him- only for you katski”
he grins at this, “yeah? only for me right. remember that sweetheart, im the only one who can fuck you like this.”
he’s thrusting almost animalistically into your pussy, balls slapping your neglected clit. the squelching noise filling the room alongside your pornographic moans.
“oh fuck babe- feel so good around my dick- feelin’ good for you?” katsuki asks with a sly smirk. of course it feels good. slowing down his thrusts for a short minute, “wanna say thank you? then i might let ya cum.”
bastard
“than- god fuck- thank y-you,” you barley moan out the coherent words before he’s pounding our body into the couch, rocking it slightly back and forth.
katsuki begins letting out loud moans before reaching around to your clit, circling around it but never touching it.
“please- i need- m’ gonna-“ you try warning him but it’s useless at this point.
“go on, pretty thing. do it.” katsuki all but growls before pinching your clit, hard.
that’s when the most earth shattering orgasm rolls over your body in hot waves. your mouth’s permanently in an “o” shape and your body’s convulsing, all while he’s only speeding up in seek for his own orgasm.
finally coming back to earth, you hear him chuckle before he whispers in your ear.
“that was so fuckin’ hot, squirting all over my dick like that.”
did he say squirting? you’ve never done that, but shit it felt good
just as you're rolling into overstimulation, katsuki thrusts a few more times before his stuttering hips stop balls deep inside of you. thick spurts of his hot seed coat your insides, and all you can do is lay there in bliss like you’ve never felt before.
“mmm, you still with me?” he asks, you nod your head yes.
never pulling out, the man behind you reaches over to the coffee table, grabbing what you guess is his phone. your too exhausted to look.
“how bout’ we send a pic to deku? needs to know who this pussy belongs to, right sweetheart?”

Gerdie the Super Sim
Tumblr media
I've found myself not keeping with my storylines and getting stressed out over taking screenshots the past few months - also my computer has been in use for other things so I couldn't play. But I decided to do a chill Super Sim challenge and I've brought back Gerdie to do it. And it worked - I had fun playing this so I'm going to continue. I'm using James Turner's Super Sim tracker (yes, I link to his site a lot, but I really like the tools he has set up).
I thought about using a totally new Sim for it - getting all the infant, toddler, child & teen milestones - but honestly, that didn't sound much fun so...it's Gerdie, since she had a lot of things out the way all ready. With that thought process, I probably could have gone with one of my Globetrotter Sims since they completed a lot already. But honestly? I missed her. I moved her to a completely new save so I don't have to worry about her past story and her skills/traits would carry over. My plan is also to move her to different worlds and build her a new house, since I really like building and I'll get bored if she has to live in the same place all the time.
No idea how much I'll be screenshotting/posting, but since I finished a season, I thought I'd start keeping track here of all of her accomplishments.
Gerdie Visser-Pancakes
Traits: Genius, Loves the Outdoors, Socially Awkward Outgoing, Clumsy, Lactose Intolerant (Had 2 popups if she wanted to change her trait from Socially Awkward to Outgoing so I decided to go with it. I decided that's my rule)
Current Residence: Mt Komerabi
Likes: Idealist Sims, Homebody Sims, Gardening, Black, Purple, Handiness, Cooking, Dancing, Knitting, Skiing, Rock Climbing, Fitness, Photography
Dislikes: Yellow
(I say yes to any new like - except music genres, because they annoy me with the wants. I don't remember why she dislikes yellow and I haven't received any other dislike requests)
Progress under the cut.
End of Summer, year 1
Current Completed Aspirations: Nerd Brain, Mt Komerabi Sightseer. (plus Whiz Kid as a child).
Aspirations In progress: Extreme Sports Enthusiast, Lady of the Knits, Curator, Fabulously Wealthy (passive), Renaissance Sim (passive)
Current Career: Scientist (level 8)
Completed Careers: Scout, Chess Team Member.
Current Completed Skills: Handiness, Logic, Skiing (plus all toddler and several child ones, but I can't find that info)
Very Close to complete: Rock Climbing (level 9), Cooking (level 9), Fitness (level 9)
Reward Traits: Always Welcome, Gym Rat, Observant, Speed Cleaner, Great Stoyteller, Heat Acclimation, Cold Acclimation, Waterproof, Morning Sim, Night Owl, Speed Reader, Strom Chaser, Free Services, Entrepreneurial, Frugal, Independent, Steel Bladder, Carefree, Savant, Brave.
On to fall - need to work on snowboarding before we move - and get that last animal attack to finish the Extreme Sports.

Metroid Dread, Michael Mann's Ferrari and the flimsy-ass excuses I tried to find to connect them
Sometimes it just takes some honesty to get lack of creativity out of the way.
This waiting thing I'm not new at, not at all. I've done it very often. The earliest I can remember I was eleven and Tron: Legacy was about to drop in theaters. You bet your ass I got the soundtrack the very second it entered record stores. It was an aesthetic-defining moment. The kind of stuff that alters your brain chemistry permanently. When some friends who were in Venice told me Ferrari was a bad movie I felt all kinds of stomach-churning. I don't mean to be François Truffaut-like and pretend like all movies made by Michael Mann are automatically good, but I do have insane amounts of respect for the man as a filmmaker, and after what happened with Blackhat - in short: a really good movie sorely mistreated by audiences, critics and box office revenue - I was kind of hoping in some sort of smash hit. I really needed a W, so to speak.
Tumblr media
In case you guys were wondering, I kinda dig Patrick Dempsey as Piero Taruffi.
Once again it just kind of floored me for a second. It wasn't too clear-cut right away. I don't think it's one of his best - too many things just don't align: the acting feels distracted and half-hearted and the inexplicably botched adaptation/voice acting job they distributed in Italy is even worse than that laughable fake Italian accent everyone has on all the time in the original; some of the dialogue is insanely out of focus and thematically off-center in a way no other Mann movie ever allowed for; sometimes it feels like the movie itself has to take the script back onto its central theme without losing itself to agiographic intents; the photography often felt a bit too painterly for the movie to have that same electrifying visual feel as (most recently) Blackhat or (most impactfully) Miami Vice. Crucially, something still felt off in a good way. What to make, for instance, of the sunglasses symbolism that instantly connects a movie set in the late '50s with the original cyberpunk aesthetic wherein “by hiding the eyes, mirrorshades prevent the forces of normalcy from realizing that one is crazed and possibly dangerous,” like Bruce Sterling himself said? Or again the cuts to the clutch pedal and then the gear stick systematically being interpolated when someone is driving? Or yet again the sheer sense of speed, the same speed of sand slipping through one's fingers, every shot conveys? When I came out of the theater (a local monoplex, almost deserted, mostly dedicated to films d'essai - incidentally also the only theater that showed the movie without me having to go to the Big City) some people I knew asked me what I thought of it and my very honest reply was "ask me in about ten years". There's absolutely no telling what future filmmakers and film historians will make of this: everything rests on the shoulder of future Mann movies. These intuitions here, not just the communication discourse (which, once again, is pretty typical of all Michael Mann movies, starting at the very least from The Insider) but this unique omissive/breathless style of storytelling and information conveyance, might make for another cutting-edge, literally breathtaking Michael Mann thriller soon: very soon, if the voices about Heat 2 being adapted to a movie turn into a reality.
youtube
Topically enough, right on Christmas morning my precious and beloved friends J. and A. gifted me a digital copy of Metroid Dread, a game I had basically lost any hope of ever playing. The Metroid series has always fascinated me in that, for a franchise as old and weathered and revered as Mario and Zelda, there's relatively few people - at least when I was a kid with no readily available internet access - who kept a memory of it. I first met Metroid as a middle schooler, via the Prime Trilogy collection a friend of mine had saved on his jailbroken Wii; never finished it but it stayed within me like a particularly revealing nightmare did. When I played Super Metroid at age eighteen that intro sequence burned itself on my prefrontal cortex and changed everything. It's a masterpiece that drives its main strength from the freedom to explore and delve deeper and deeper into it - and quite revolutionarily, the possibility of not doing so. To realize when enough is enough takes a special ability and knowledge of the self. To accept less than what would be enough takes either idiocy or excellently precise calculations and execution.
Yet ultimately at the heart of every horrifying car accident, the screaming contests, the bankruptcy threats, there sits an inconsolably pulsing heart that the movie resolves to show us exactly twice.
We were at my grandparents' for Christmas and as we drove through the town my father looked out of the car's window and saw an obituary with his last name on it. I didn't quite catch who exactly it was and how they were related to us - and rest assured they most likely were, it's an Abruzzo thing. As most of my family's deaths, as discussed on my Godflesh post, were on my mother's side, to see my father's last name on a mortuary announcement was a bit of a surprise, in that as you probably can imagine it's also my last name. It's a new experience which, in total frankness, I don't exactly hope to replicate soon.

While preparing for this post, I annotated on my phone's notes app that "Michael Mann would make a fantastic Metroid movie that everybody would hate". I know this because something similar already happened with Miami Vice: he systematically removed almost all signifiers of the original TV series to reprocess the core concept of it into a lean, aesthetically experimental, profoundly emotional film about means of communication reshaping the way crime and crime-fighters relate to each other, and the way the individual relates to sovereign organizations. It certainly helped that Michael Mann himself, as screenwriter-turned-director-turned-producer, was the man who defined the original Miami Vice's aesthetic, and therefore was in all likelihood the most qualified to strip it down to absolutely nothing, remake it from scratch to fit a new, apocalyptic vision of a post-9/11 society of control based on telecommunication.
In discussing Ferrari with @power-chords, she immediately pointed my attention onto just how critical the figures of mass communication turn to be throughout the movie. Journalists, priests, even the movie stars the pilots are dating. Michael Mann is moving into a territory of movies not about movies, but movies about media in general, sitting at the edge of communication breakthroughs, studying the intersection between an "old world" and a modern, contemporary, fucked up world. Unsurprisingly, Metroid Fusion (and to a lesser extent Metroid Dread itself) delve into omission, falsification, breaking down of information: there's fertile grounds for Mann to work with, I think.
Most importantly, however, Metroid Dread is peak-form Metroid, combining the strength of the more exploration-based titles in the series with the thrilling combat-oriented difficulty spikes of Fusion. The new thing compared to, for instance, Samus Returns is how the game does not trivialize the enemy encounters in regular gameplay up until the very end, which by the way is nowhere close to a careless power trip. And even if it were, it'd still be more than warranted: the final boss is granted to give you unrequested cosmetic surgery to make you look like a dumbass. All the while Samus has never felt any better, movement is slick and deliberate, the 360-degree aiming is incredibly precise even taking the Joycon drift into account: and this precision eliminates almost all instances of rage-game bullshit when it comes to the EMMIs, the fighting, the jumping, the exploration, without by default trivializing any of the elements. It is, simply, a game feel miracle.
Tumblr media
It feels about as glorious as it looks.
The deep knowledge of the gameplay mechanics of a great Metroid game is key to Mercury Steam's success with the central executives at Nintendo of Japan. Samus Returns didn't sell too bad, like most Metroid games (at least when you don't compare them to Pokémon, Mario or Zelda), but this here is just a quantum leap. All elements of the game, including the mechanical frameworks established in the 3DS game, are honed to a lethal degree: every enemy encounter, every instrument at the player's disposal turn out to be multifaceted, limited only by the player's own creativity and abilities. But the game knows how to help you, the player, hone those abilities too - it wants to be discovered. It entices you in further and further.
The game is majestic, in short. It knows itself, its players, its predecessors, even its stakeholders spectacularly well. And it is so thanks to employees who were forced to borderline inhumane working conditions, under threat to get their name scrubbed off the end credits if they didn't physically show up for work in the middle of a global pandemic.
"MercurySteam employees talk about the working conditions in the studio" - Spanish article from AnaitGames
During one of the earliest scenes in Ferrari, Enzo (Adam Driver) goes to Mass in the factory's own chapel, and together with all the racing department's higher-ups he proceeds to not give a damn about the function, keeping his eye on a stopwatch instead, monitoring the times Maserati's drivers are doing on the Modena racetrack. As the execs do this, the priest starts waxing poetic: "If Jesus was born today he would not be a carpenter. He would be a mechanic, like you are," says the uncaring bastard in a long dress to alienated, broken working men, facing - unbeknownst to them - the serious threat of bankruptcy, immediate liquidation, job loss. It took this movie about thirty years to get made, being passed from one producer to the next one, from one director to the next one, with this script that sort of tries to be a biopic with all of its strengths but is fundamentally tethered to a protagonist who's, ostensibly, Just Some Guy who happened to own half of one of the most famous car manufacturing companies on Earth. But the reason he was able to do that is, like one of my teachers points out in his Letterboxd review of the movie, his entirely-too-natural knack for timing. The precision Enzo Ferrari requires of his drivers, that quite literally lethal element of exertion, precision and composure, is what is required of him too, but this doesn't make him any better than anyone else: he's not the one dying, he's not the one crashing cars. Some of his friends did. He just got extremely lucky.

Informing the very concept of the labor of love is the idea, almost the aesthetic even, of the love of labor. Gaming culture is profoundly imbued with this. Crunch, stricter and stricter timelines: these are no news to anyone who's into gaming in an even remotely active manner, and are the byproduct of a culture based around hype - a profound affection that degenerates into pretense. Enzo Ferrari fashions himself a dictator, taking charge of the communication around his brand and purposely, painstakingly reshaping flows of information to operate according to a logistical nightmare of an inner timetable. Adalgisa Bisbini (Daniela Piperno) plainly states, with the brutal honesty that can only come with old age and immeasurable pain, that "the wrong child died", right behind her son's wife's back as they're visiting the family grave. Two graves marked Alfredo Dino Ferrari sit mirroring each other in an imposing structure in the San Cataldo cemetery, in Modena. Enzo Ferrari mourns them both, unknowingly echoing his mother's feelings. It is a circle of mutually inflicted pain where everyone already feels what they're being told, and yet it never stops: labor must ensue, so that the vestiges of love can ensue. No wonder Enzo and Laura Ferrari (Penélope Cruz) can only ever fuck on top of spreadsheets.

RECIPE: Chocolate Mocha Refrigerator Cake (from Good Eats: The Final Years by Alton Brown)
Icebox cakes occupy a dreamy realm between cake and pudding, made possible by a foam composed of heavy cream (dairy from a cow containing a minimum of 36 percent butterfat) and air. Without whipped cream, there would be no icebox cake.
Yield: 10 to 12 servings
SOFTWARE
¼ cup (60 ml) cold water
1 (7-gram) packet powdered gelatin
70 chocolate wafer cookies (363 g), Nabisco Famous
2 tablespoons (30 ml) coffee liqueur
4 teaspoons (4 g) instant espresso powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups (720 ml) heavy cream, cold
30 grams (¼ cup) confectioners’ sugar
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
TACTICAL HARDWARE
A 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan
A stand mixer with whisk attachment
PROCEDURE
1) Put the water in a small saucepan (or even a metal measuring cup). Sprinkle the gelatin over the water and let sit at room temperature to bloom for 5 minutes.
2) Line a 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan with plastic wrap, leaving enough overhang in each direction to completely cover the top once the pan is full. Line the bottom and sides of the pan with 16 of the chocolate wafers and set aside.
3) Place the bloomed gelatin over low heat and gently warm until the gelatin has just melted, about 90 seconds. (Don’t let it boil.) Remove from the heat and stir in the coffee liqueur, espresso powder, and vanilla.
4) Combine the cream, confectioners’ sugar, and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. Gradually bring the speed up to high and beat until soft peaks form, about 1½ minutes. Reduce the speed to low and drizzle in the cooled gelatin mixture. Slowly increase the speed back to high and beat until stiff peaks form, about 30 seconds more.
Tumblr media
5) Fill the prepared pan three-quarters full with the whipped cream mixture. (You’ll need to use about 4 cups.) Insert the remaining 54 chocolate wafers vertically (edge first) into the whipped cream to create 4 rows of about 13 cookies each, keeping the cookies slightly separated by cream.
Tumblr media
6) Spread the remaining whipped cream evenly over the cookie rows. Tap the pan on the counter a few times to remove any bubbles. Fold the excess plastic wrap over the cake and refrigerate until very firm and sliceable, at least 8 hours and up to 24 hours.
7) To serve, pull back the plastic wrap and invert the cake onto a serving dish. (I usually place a plate upside-down on top of the loaf pan, then flip them together.) Remove the plastic wrap, slice with a long, thin serrated knife, and serve immediately. To keep leftovers, cover with fresh plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 3 days.

What gear do I use?
After only 1 year of photography and many many hours of research, I have learned a lot about photography and videography gear. The first step to getting into photography is choosing your gear. This is not an easy decision as there are so many options out there and chances are you will have this camera and lens for at least a couple years. When I first started I had the opportunity to borrow a friend's camera and lens. The camera was a Canon 80D and the lens was a Tamron f2.8 70-200. This camera was a good first camera for me because it gave me an idea of what I would be using later. I currently own a Canon 7D Mark II. I chose this camera because of the fast shutter speed and the many focus points on the sensor. I picked this camera up for around $700 and it was immediately way better to use than the 80d that I was borrowing before. The lens I use now is the Canon f2.8 70-200. This lens is great because for sports you need to have a 70-200. It is what I use for 95% of my pictures. For video, I use the canon 80d matched up with the Tameron f2.8 70-200. The camera I was borrowing originally. To edit I use a Macbook Pro 14 inch and a PC every once in a while.
Why do I use this gear? I use this gear because when you are first starting out you have to choose the most cost effective gear that fits into your budget. If you have a bunch of money to spend I would recommend you buy nicer gear than what I have. However, you can definitely get away with what I use. I have found that skill and the want to do photography is much more important than gear. If you don't enjoy photography or want to put in the work to get better then that will transfer over to the quality of your work. Choosing my camera body was very difficult because I had never used them before. I am happy with my decision, but looking back I would probably spend around a thousand more dollars on my camera body just because now I know I would make the money back. I would probably get a Canon R6. However, I would not recommend that to everyone. My lens was an easy decision because I knew I would need  f2.8 70-200. The only thing that made this hard was deciding between the name brand or the off brand. I think I made a good choice buying the more expensive name brand because now I have used both and the quality of the name brand Canon lens is much higher than the off brand Tameron lens. I use the Canon 80d for video because it holds up and does a decent job. But mainly because I don't pay for it and I am still just borrowing it. I chose the Apple Macbook pro 14 inch after a two day trial of a macbook air. I decided I would like to have the pro because of the value you get from it. It has the M1 chip making it capable of running any software I throw at it but it also has fans for when I am working in the heat.
Tumblr media
I interviewed Levi Romnes, a friend that is into film/videography. He said, “I got into film because I was addicted to my phone and watching videos.” Videography has always interested Levi. After all of his research and practice he said, “For the past couple months I've been trying to make a video and it's not happening. It's a little bit more difficult than it looks.” This statement by Levi is something that can apply to more than just photography and videography. You have to do your research and practice if you want to be good at what you do.

Samsung Introduces Fast microSD Cards for On-Device AI
Tumblr media
Samsung Electronics, the world leader in advanced memory technology, announced today that it has begun sampling its 256-gigabyte (GB) SD Express microSD cards, which has a sequential read speed of up to 800 MB/s, and mass producing its 1-terabyte (TB) UHS-1 microSD card. Samsung plans to provide unique memory options for future mobile device mobility computing and artificial intelligence applications with its next-generation microSD card range.
Samsung is displaying the industry’s first 256GB SD Express microSD card with speeds four times faster than the current interface. The latest V-NAND technology is being used to mass produce Samsung’s 1TB UHS-1 microSD card.
Samsung Electronics Vice President of the Memory Brand Product Biz Team Hangu Sohn says, “Samsung has provided effective solutions to address the growing demands of mobile computing and on-device artificial intelligence.” This refers to Samsung’s two new microSD cards. “These memory cards, despite their diminutive size, deliver powerful performance and capacity comparable to that of solid-state drives (SSDs), thereby assisting users in getting more out of demanding modern and future applications.”
The first SD Express microSD cards can transfer 800 megabytes per second
Samsung has introduced an SD Express-based microSD card with high performance for the first time. A successful relationship with a customer to create a custom product led to this development.
Samsung’s SD Express microSD card offers SSD-like performance in a tiny form factor. Its low-power architecture and high-performance, heat-management firmware enable this. Previous microSD cards with UHS-1 interfaces have 104MB/s read speeds. SD Express was able to improve these rates to 985MB/s, even though microSD cards could not commercially accommodate it until recently.
Samsung’s SD Express microSD card can read data at 800MB/s, 1.4 times quicker than SATA solid-state drives (560 MB/s) and more than four times faster than UHS-1 memory cards (200 MB/s). This improves PC and mobile device computing. Dynamic Thermal Guard (DTG) technology keeps the SD Express microSD card at the right temperature even after long-term operation. This ensures the compact form factor’s reliability and performance.
The 1TB UHS-1 microSD card has cutting-edge 1TB V-NAND
Samsung produced a 1-terabyte microSD card to enable high-capacity packing previously only possible with SSDs. This microSD card has eight layers of the company’s 8th-generation 1-terabit (Tb) V-NAND. The new 1 terabyte microSD card passes the most rigorous market test conditions and operates reliably in tough conditions thanks to its water, severe temperature, drop-proof design, wear-out protection, and X-ray and magnetic protection.
Availability
The 256GB SD Express and 1TB UHS-1 microSD cards will be introduced later this year.
FAQS
How do new microSD cards vary from old ones?
High performance, with sequential read speeds of up to 800MB/s, faster than SATA SSDs and four times faster than UHS-1 microSD cards. Storage may reach one terabyte (TB), equivalent to solid-state disks.
