charlie sees neil at his worst and at his best - charlie knows that neil can be so much brighter and happier - that neil deserves every kindness, every speck of love, every good thing in the world

and charlie also knows that until neil gets away from his father that neil will never get to let himself be as bright and brilliant as he truly is

charlie sees the hints of it - little clues that show that neil is not there yet, sure, but working his way towards being the him he deserves to be

and charlie will never have enough words to thank todd for causing that

Okay, so let me see if I understand correctly:

Boys wanting to write poetry is a metaphor for boys wanting the freedom to make out in the back of old bookstores and to wear lipstick while reciting Shakespearean sonnets without having to hear the constant disapproval of others

Men running away to become pirates is a metaphor for men running away from the safe, heteronormative lives society forced them into in order to start a more genuine, albeit more dangerous, life for themselves

Nerdy teens fighting monsters together is a metaphor for teens who were once outcasted by their community for being different helping each other to confront their trauma and to become the heroes of their own stories

And women playing baseball is a metaphor for women reclaiming their femininity after spending most of their lives being told they’re “not real girls” because they don’t fit the mold the patriarchy wants them to fit into

But ultimately all of them are just metaphors for a friend group being gayer than the fucking fourth of July

Good Omens season two is coming out a week before Heartstopper season two.

In honor of that I just wanted to remind everyone that canonically, Good Omens was one of Nick Nelson's bisexual realizations™ in Heartstopper lmao. And I of course have to mention Nick and Charlie dressing up as Aziracrow for Halloween afterwards, they are so precious. Two beloved silly little gay British book-to-screen series dropping their second seasons one week apart is gonna ruin me.
