Steve and Carolyn leave we go to Portree, Skye  Then the bad news.
Steve and Carolyn headed back to Glasgow to head home to Oakland CA, and we headed north to Portree the small town that's the "capitol" of Skye.
I did some hiking on the north end of the island, that had been too far from Kinlock. As I'm doing this I am having sinus congestion, but that's not uncommon for me and if I'm out hiking it's not bad. So pseudoephedrine every evening and morning and it's OK.
The weather was good mostly, so I went out to Neist Point lighthouse a dramatic scene and a pretty easy hike.
The roads were, if anything even narrower than we'd been seeing in Scotland. So lots of pulling into the passing areas to let approaching cars past. But some times the roads are so twisty and hilly that you are head to head with a car and someone needs to back down to where there's a wide spot. Thank goodness for backup cameras.
There are lots of sheep along the road and being spring a lot of lambs. Neither are concerned about cars and will walk, stand or sit in the road, so you just stop until they move on.

It was very windy and blustery, so I stayed well away from the cliff edges. The truth is I would have anyway. Heights didn't used to bother me, but they do now. I suppose less stability is a factor, but I'm not going to fight it, I have no reason to get out on the edge.

The next morning we have a lunch reservation at Three Chimneys, one of the best restaurants on sky. My sinuses are not improving, so I walk the the pharmacy for more pseudoephedrine before heading out.
First we went out to the north end to Truman Church the ruins of a church on a scenic headland that was the scene of massacres between rival Scottish clans in one part one of the clans was in the church and the other blocked the doors and set the roof on fire, which was payback for the other clan trapping and killing several hundred in a cave. Today its peaceful and with a great view.

It had been fairly warm and pleasant when we arrived but ten minutes later, the wind picked up, it started raining, and god cold. So we headed out.
While we were driving to lunch I got a text from Steve, they had tested positive for COVID when they went to leave the country. So they were turned away and told they should isolate and can't leave for 10 days.
I called the restaurant and told them but they said to come ahead. After a nice lunch we got back to our room and did self tests. I tested positive, no surprise at this point, and Cathie didn't.
Our flight isn't for four more days, so I'm really hoping that I can recover enough to get a negative test. We all believe the contact happened back in Gairloch a week ago when we all had stomach issues. So four more days will make it 11 days, I hope that's enough. The rules say that if you test positive on exit, it's 10 more days from that point!
So this is a real downer for the end of the trip. There doesn't seem to be anything to do but wait and see at this point. Scotland seems like they have declared victory on COVID. They closed their testing centers, and say to just self test and self isolate. No need to report. So they aren't even tracking cases any more. I guess that's one way to keep the numbers down!
Well I've got a bunch of books and if its a good day I can isolate walking along a trail.
