Here's sketches of my AU what I'm thinking of...Hoaxe joins Team Snakemouth!
I am having a lot of fun thinking about this...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It begins with Hoaxe's late departure from Wasp Kingdom and his encounter with Kabbu and Neolith in the desert.
Hoaxe got information about the crown in Wasp Kingdom, deciphered the ancient Roach language (he delivered Bugnish so fast, he must have had the ability to learn at least one more word) and found it in the desert.
Once in the desert, Hoaxe happens to find Neolith, who happens to be an archaeologist, and tries to get information from him about the site where the crown lies.
Hoaxe wanted to threaten Neolith to get information from him.
However, Neolith and Kabbu have stepped into the arrow worm's nest and as a result, he ends up helping them.
Tumblr media
The place where they escaped from the arrow worms happens to be the ruins Hoaxe was looking for.
They offer to accompany Hoaxe as he tries to enter the ruins. Hoaxe tried to refuse, but the two men said they did not want the treasure, so he allowed them to follow him...
Kabbu and Neolith decided to accompany him, half out of gratitude for their help and half out of concern. Hoaxe had a knowledge of the ancient Roach language and the observational skills to spot traps and tricks at all costs, but he knew nothing else! He did not know that this area was the land of the Bee Kingdom, or even that explorers existed...
Kabbu's power and Neolith's knowledge (Hoaxe could read Roach's language, but knew as little about the lore of the area) was a great help in progressing through the ruins.
At the deepest part of the ruins, belostoss appears before the three.
Hoaxe's fire did not work on the hard, water-soaked epidermis, Kabbu and Hoaxe were able to defeat them by working together.
However, in the room where the ancient crown was supposed to be, the floor had collapsed and led to an underground water vein, and the crown Hoaxe was looking for had been washed away by water...
This is the prologue of this AU, Hoaxe and Kabbu's first adventure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After this, Kabbu and Neolith return to Defiant Root with Hoaxe, who has fainted from the long journey to the desert, the continuous fighting and the despair of not finding the crown.
Doctor Isau tells them that Hoaxe is scarred and malnourished and must have lived in a very bad environment....Kabbu takes a lot of care of Hoaxe when he regains consciousness. This is a new experience for Hoaxe and he is very confused.
Neolith had his suspicions that Hoaxe might be dangerous, but at the same time he had high regard for his talent as an explorer. Above all, he wanted to help this young bug who would have lived in these terrible circumstances.
The underground water vein from which the crown was washed away connects to the river in the Ant Kingdom. The ruins seem to have been destroyed a long time ago and may have been washed up somewhere in the river by now.
Becoming an explorer in the Ant Kingdom will help you find what you are looking for.
Neolith wrote a letter recommending Kabbu and Hoaxe as explorers and handed it to them.

For a while I’ve had the idea that, in Swapped Fables, Neo and Fuff would be taking each other’s place (with Fuff showing his meeker side whilst studying stuff and Neo being excited with Wasp Tech and happily using things like the Ultimax Tank) but you know what? While writing Omega’s Assault, I’ve come to realize that Dr. H.B. would actually fit better as a counterpart to Fuff: I can totally see H.B. happily taking the opportunity to make war machines and stuff like that, acting surprisingly good as a general. I bet she’d even put up a decent fight while out of her Ultimax Tank equivalent (A souped up Heavy Drone B-33, perhaps?).
Meanwhile, Fuff would take H.B.’s role in investigating the weird magic guy when he enters (in this case, Hoaxe), but I can imagine it going a little more smoothly than in canon: while Canon H.B. made Canon Leif very uncomfortable during their meeting, I can see Swapped Fuff and Swapped Hoaxe interacting more amicably. If Swapped Team Snakemouth do fight a Wasp Tank, it likely wouldn’t be Ultimax driving it (I’m thinking of just some Wasp being mind-controlled to attack them with it since Swapped Leif does still have the crown and can likely still control Wasps with it. He’d just prefer using Bee Technology because he hates Bugs that much).
Of course, this leaves out Neo, but I just had the idea of swapping him with Aria? I dunno, switching a religious girl and a science boy sounds kinda fun, and I bet it’d even lead to a couple fun changes: perhaps Aria fights back against the Wasps at the start of Chapter 2, while Neo needs a lot more help from Venus in the fight against him?
(As is often the case, many of these ideas are spitballing and may not end up being really considered for the AU. Whatever info here I do want to keep will likely be added into the descriptions of whatever related drawings I make if I get around to them.)

Thank you so much @dino-trash-kieran for this absolutely adorable commission of Aloy and Talanah from a scene in their Modern AU fic ✨Sun and Shadow✨
I think they really nailed it writing Aloy with Neolithic style animal tattoos, which were so much fun to draw!!!

Six Photo Sunday
Hey everyone, I hope you've had a good week! I'm scheduling this ahead of time so thanks to everyone who may have tagged me already!
Today I'm doing something a little different. I wanted to share some photos of places that inspired What Remains After The Storm.
Although WRATS is pitched as a fantasy AU, I'd say that is a 'flag of convenience' (i.e. I could play fast and loose with the setting to suit the story's needs). In many ways, WRATS is a historical fantasy based in Cornwall, UK, including Cornish mythology and fictionalisations of real places. So please enjoy these photos and tidbits on the fic's inspiration.
I'll share the first photo above the cut, and the following five below.
Tumblr media
Cornish cliffs (Image by Tim Hill)
Whenever I imagine young Simon scurrying around on the cliffs, I think of something like this. The moor backs onto the cliffs, and the sea is often rough. Wrecks were incredibly common around Cornwall's coast, owing partly to strong currents and its many reefs and skerries. Many impoverished locals would seize the cargo of wrecked ships, and were often accused of intentionally luring ships to wreck by using false lights, but there is no clear evidence that this happened.
More (and tags) below the cut
Tumblr media
Bodmin Moor (Image by Richard Norris)
The Cornish moorland has been gently grazed for centuries, so it is a patchwork of heather, gorse, bracken, coarse grass and distinctive granite tors which resemble pancakes stacks (though not pictured are some of the beautiful wooded valleys, one of which features in chp 8). It is exposed, frequently windy, and often dangerous--dotted with forgotten mine shafts and boggy terrain. When not at his barn, this is where Simon wanders with his goats.
Tumblr media
Mên-an-Tol (Image by LoggaWiggler)
This formation of neolithic standing stones is one of my favourite places in Cornwall. Local folklore says that if you suspect that your child has been stolen by Fae and a changeling left in its place, you can pass the changeling through the hole and have your child returned to you. It was also credited with curing rickets. This formation and its legend is directly referenced in WRATS, where it is known as "the Way-In Stone" (and previously known by Simon as "The Scone With The Hole").
Tumblr media
St Michael's Mount (Image by Tim Hill)
My other favourite place in Cornwall! This small tidal island is where Pitch Manor is based in WRATS. It can be reached at low tide by a causeway (pictured part-submerged here) amd otherwise must be reached by boat. The island includes a castle and chapel, with a small village and harbour on its landward-facing side. In WRATS, the location has been the seat of the Pitches since time immemorial, but in reality it has a long and varied history, such as a site of pilgrimage, siege and tourism.

St Ives harbour, Cornwall, no date given (from the book Reflections of Old Cornwall by Reg Watkiss)
More vibes for you! Fishing was the basis of Cornwall's economy for centuries. Whenever a shoal of fish was sighted off the coast, almost everyone would turn out to help. The men and various boats worked together, arranging their nets to scoop up the whole shoal, while the women waiting in the harbour to salt and barrel them.
Tumblr media
Newlyn, Cornwall c. 1900 (from Reflections of Old Cornwall)
This steep, cobbled street is very typical of Cornish villages. Many of the granite cottages are homes which doubled up as fish cellars, but some structures were inns or boat- and basket-makers' sheds. When I look at this, I can't help but think of a bare-footed Baz, hood drawn over his face, angrily stomping a puddle. Today, most Cornish villages are dominated by holiday lets and airbnbs, and many of the houses have been renovated beyond recognition. However, you can still glimpse some of the old charm in numerous places.
Ok so yeah, that's my love letter to Cornwall done. Thank you for indulging me, and I hope the readers of WRATS get something out of this!

☔Is there a fic concept you have that you'd like to just explain and share because you're not sure you'll ever write it? If so, what is it?
wip emoji thing!
hello! not sure which fandom you're hailing from, so here's a range?
For F1, Viking AU! I got an ask that prompted me to do the worldbuild but i never got to do anything with it, and i'm not sure i'd want to actually write out that particular au. But I made up the whole world!! Max has excruciatingly well-researched early medieval domestic cats! Alex Albon is ibn Fadlan's translator! Vikings sack Monaco! Christian Horner betrays Wessex!
For hockey, the tk/nolpat Butch Cassidy AU, if I never finish it. I researched a lot of stuff about dynamite for that, I wanna use it :( But honestly i DO want to write that.
For mdzs, a half-joking Clan of the Cave Bear AU (note: i have read 1/3 of Valley of Horses on S's sofa and that's it). I'm absolutely sure this was not my original idea. But it starts like the beginning of Valley of Horses (wwx cast out of his neolithic society and considered formally dead, not NOT canon). notably, this means wwx killed Lil Apple's mom for meat. sorry Lil Apple's mom.

This is the AU I am considering now. What if Hoaxe had departed late and met Kabbu and Neolith on the way?
I would like to clean up this doodles a bit more in due course.

hello lolly what kind of dog breeds do you think gilgamesh would like the most also i hope you're having a great friday
Oh I've thought about this actually!! Tho this was actually for what dog gil himself would be in my servants as dogs AU lol
I think gil would like something beautiful and regal looking, with a long proud history like himself. So I was thinking: saluki, which also have the bonus that they come from neolithic Mesopotamia. We all know how proud gil is of his people's heritage after all. Also in modern day theyre one of the most expensive dog breeds to get so that's even more gilcore

haven't drawn the bugs of fable in so long...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(feat. another rather static-y Swap AU Neo, from @professorneolith , because I still think it's a cool idea)
[Start ID. Two flat, unshaded drawings of Bug Fables characters on white backgrounds. The first is of Professor Neolith, a moth drawn in maple tones. He appears to be floating, with his legs bent and wings unused. One hand snaps, and his other palm faces the ground. He has a slight smile and seems altogether relaxed. A halo of electricity encircles him and two bolts extend from one hand. The second drawing depicts Leif, another moth, drawn in extremely bright colors. He is less relaxed, in the midst of a fight, with large spikes of ice circling around his feet. Two of his wings and his lower body splay outwards and to the left, and he is sharply bent at the waist, hunched over. One arm is raised, as though he was casting the ice magic visible below him. End ID]

some my AU's doodles
Tumblr media
First exploration
Tumblr media
In the first playthrough I heard about the 'fly boy who bought the crown' just after defeating the False monarch. This is where this misconception was born.
My misconceptions were cleared up after I saw the ending, but this idea kept lingering in my head...
Due to the delay in Hoaxe reaching the crown, the ancient crown is now in the hands of Mothflys. This monster would cause great damage to the Ant Kingdom and to the Termite Kingdom...
Tumblr media
This is an idea for later in the story.
Fuff accompanies Team Snakemouse because of a major incident at a peace conference between the Wasp Kingdom and the Ant Kingdom.
Due to unavoidable circumstances, he helps the Team not as a general, but in his capacity as a former Wasp bombers member who is an expert in using bombs.

Small Swapped Fables idea: Neolith takes Yin’s place, with some differences: rather than being found by Maki as a Caterpillar and pupating in the postgame, he’s found by Mothiva as an adult and is simply very quiet, saying only his name and seemingly knowing nothing else. In the postgame he’d sneak into Venus’s Domain and the gang would have to fight off her Buds and other creations rather than Leafbugs. When Neo’s done he comes back and with regained knowledge of his magic (and maybe other details). As for said magic it’d probably be mostly healing stuff like Canon Yin, maybe with some Psychic Powers too. Also, unlike Canon Kina yelling at Yin when they’re alone Swapped Zasp would just be trying to talk to Neo and not getting many responses.
Would Yin take Neo’s role, then? Honestly, I’m not sure. Maybe? But I’m kind of thinking of having her take Hawk’s role, traveling through the Desert to find secrets and maybe interacting with whoever it is I’d imagine taking Professor Honeycomb’s place. Either way, I can see Yin’s extended Larval Stage having an influence on her knowledge: what if she saw saw a bunch of places when she was younger and because that lasted so long she ended up remembering them when she pupated? And then she went to go explore those areas again, or at least study (about) them, and that’s how she became so knowledgable? So yeah, long-story short, Neo is now Yin except he’s never a Caterpillar in the story, just quiet. Meanwhile, Yin is either Neo or Hawk, a Nerd Moth that saw a lot of stuff in the extra-long time she was young and used that knowledge to fuel her scientific escapades after pupating.

Tell me about fette!
Ehehehehe!
So!!
Fette is actually a holdover oc from literally middle school! He actually used to be his own canon character but he has been so divorced from his source that he's mine!
About Fette!!!
-Gay
-Generally he has blonde hair (when applicable) and blue eyes (when applicable)
-he's very kind and resourceful
-he has a non-existent relationship with his very shitty parents
-he always falls in love with Artemis Fowl
Not even hiding it on that one! Remember how everyone just kinda clocked Artemis as gay but he had ZERO friends his age so we just gave him imported boyfriends??? While the rest of you were importing Alex Rider (i think?) I was importing someone MUCH MUCH CRINGIER
Your honor i am still so fond of him
Fette can generally be found near the region of France, or where it was, or will be.
See, the thing about Fette, is that he is so divorced from his source that i can stick him everywhere! He is a Barbie doll!
He's a mermaid! (Lives in a french lagoon and decides to drag Artemis into a cave to have a Real Live Human. They fall in love)
He's a robot! (Maintenance worker on a cross galaxy spaceship who gains sentience and falls in love with a member of the crew.)
He's a neolithic man! (Member of a spread out and loosely organized trading community, he general provides the Meats and Fish for his (not close) neighbors, Camille and her unnamed husband, Marc, and John (ignore the names!). One day when trading for some baskets with John, he sees that John is keeping a strange man in strange clothes in his hut. Fette barters for his freedom and takes him in. They fall in love)
He's a vampire! (Warring with the vampire hunting Fowls for centuries, Fowl Sr gives up his only son as a peace offering. They fall in love)
He's a murdered teen from the 1910s! (Ask me about Ira, he's just this version of Fette! I love to talk about Ira!)
He's a prince! (Royalty au!)
He's a prince from 10,000 years ago (frozen in ice on his way to deliver a peace offering of marriage to his tribes historic rival, he is resuscitated by a confused fireman after a fire at the museum melts his ice. He awakens to discover that the tribes have become England and France and that they are STILL FIGHTING. He blames himself and sets out to marry the current prince of England, Prince Artemis, to try to set things right)
He's an avian! (Artemis gets sucked back in time several thousand years, and due to one too many trips in the Time Stream, his DNA is altered and he becomes an Avian. Confused and guided by new instincts, he finds himself at the age where Avians reach maturity and pair off. He ends up at a sort of year long speed dating thing where a dashing ParadiseFeather (Fette!) takes to wooing him with gifts of Pearl and enough food to keep him happy. Artemis is head over heels.
For the time travel stories, i use the inherent language barrier to practice my french in writing- french is the language i sub in for neolithic, or mermaid- Artemis needs to learn French to communicate! So i get to practice!
Fette is THE ONLY SURVIVOR of probably my cringiest fandom phase, but i love him too much to let him go! He's just so versatile and in my Brain AUs, i can't ship Artemis with anyone else.
I love Fette a
