what else ? the best stories i read this year were short, from 50 to 4000 words i imagine. My favorites being the story of snails, the scientist being squashed by space s(n)ails was delightful. sometimes, a poor year for science and philosophy, i simply despaired reading about neo-materialists,  why neo i kept thinking, what is it about these bloody prefixes? they should have gone for suffixes, materialneo sounds better than neomaterialism. I read a few things on friendship - didn't really like them, somehow the transitory nature of the concept, of the process of friendship escaped them. 1.1—Fin de la óptica simétrica. Aparatos corporales para la práctica artística difractiva.
Como hemos analizado, la práctica artística referente a la interacción de humanos y no humanos estaría basada en la mayor parte de sus casos a una relación permanente con las pantallas, ahora aparatos por los cuales se visualiza la imagen de un mundo-otro. Escaneado por los diferentes dispositivos pantállicos a partir de algoritmos, capas y diferentes reconocimientos espaciales, las imágenes que se capturan no serían recuerdos para guardar sino mensajes para enviar e intercambiar; las imágenes se convierten en este sentido en puros gestos de comunicación cuya dimensión pandémica obedece a un amplio espectro de motivaciones. En este sentido, hablamos del reflectograma y el selfie como imágenes donde los dispositivos móviles son claramente utilizados como acoplamientos corporales totalmente asimilados. Estas dos categorías de imagen en el contexto de la producción digital no serán los espacios mejor desarrollados y adecuados para una transducción y mediación con los no- humanos. Estas imágenes, que son calificadas de transparentes en pro de una comunicación y conectividad constante, serían capturas de esta nueva realidad que se muestra pantalla.
Este caso puede ser el principal caso de estudio por el cual podemos ver una programación de las experiencias, nuevas configuraciones de los afectos en la distancia y una inevitable necesidad de acoplamiento de múltiples dispositivos. Estos dispositivos acoplados, en cuanto pantallas, funcionan como visor del mundo que se moviliza como imagen especular. El mundo-otro comentado, sería accesible solamente como imagen especular y una realidad separada de nosotros, que no nos pertenece y que es en este sentido, una ilusión o un engaño. Las imágenes especulares pasarían a definir el carácter panóptico y escópico de nuestra sociedad: todo se ofrece a una visión absoluta y a todos nos guiaría el placer de mirar. La aparente usabilidad se revierte como un problema a nivel de usuario; la transparencia adquiere su valor tan solo en la cantidad y velocidad del intercambio de información, pero esta rapidez de comunicación conectiva no haría más que repetir patrones de conducta entre sus usuarios.
Concretamente, los espacios de realidad virtual adquieren el rol principal dentro de las artes en conceptos como especulación y simulación y se han diversificado exponencialmente durante la última década (2010-2020) entre multitud de producciones. La revolución de los híbridos que encontramos en estos espacios y la generación de avatares a la carta que ya surgían en las últimas décadas del siglo XX nos ayudan a entender cómo esta teoría de la visualización y la imagen sujeta a una pantalla conformaría un debate de la imagen especular que necesita ser actualizado.
Lo principal sería plantear el fin de la óptica basada en la simetría (y la reproducción de lo mismo) y precisando de la búsqueda y reformulación de la metafísica perceptiva y experiencial de la imagen. Esta dinámica basada en la lógica de causalidad plantea un modelo de experiencia no válido en las temáticas que planteamos, por un motivo obvio, que sería el intento de la desestabilización de modelos plenamente jerarquizados. De este modo, la producción de imágenes relacionadas con un entendimiento de lo mismo (una mutiplicidad de usuarios sujetos a la misma programación), pasarían a un segundo plano en esta investigación. Como Donna Haraway ha argumentado, otros patrones relativos a la óptica de las pantallas desplazarían esta relación hipertrofiada a nivel de usuario a otros lugares. Mantiene que es posible contribuir a un estado de diferencia que se hace presente a partir de sus propios efectos (por ejemplo, como legitimaciones de las desigualdades sociales). Planteamos en este punto que la superación de la imagen especular en pro de una lógica alternativa llevaría a los usuarios a un estado de auto- consciencia crítica que pone en conversación a la ontología relacional con otros actantes como una estrategia subversiva.
Hablaríamos en este caso de la difracción como un efecto tanto óptico tanto simbólico como político y entonces acudir a ella como una metodología alternativa de visualización y creación: de experiencias, afectos y realidades. Como una imagen del pensamiento y como una práctica de análisis pone en primer plano la diferencialidad, proporciona alternativas a la reflexión como metáfora de nuestras epistemologías, fragilizaría las consultas críticas y afirmaría nuestras prácticas artísticas de conocimiento como presentes (aquí y ahora), vertebrales en la configuración de un cuerpo y no simplemente como un registro e interacción de los hechos.

Múltiples artistas como JODI o LoVid han incorporado estas dinámicas a sus obras a través de lenguajes de computación. Sus propuestas son cualitativamente diferentes de otros trabajos que se desarrollan en el tiempo de una manera predecible, y demuestran cómo los procesos computacionales favorecen una continua difracción del espacio y el tiempo.
¿Conferiría esta óptica a la disciplina artística un carácter necesariamente político, que le obliga a transitar en una búsqueda constante de subversión? Para esta cuestión que es imprescindible en este trabajo, podríamos destacar que lo principal una relación neomaterial fundamentada en un mundo difractado coindice con el cambio de este nuevo milenio, por lo que el mundo del arte podría ser igualmente programado.
Teorizar sobre las epistemologías resultantes de este efecto óptico no conduciría a un constructivismo subjetivo acelerado, ni a un rechazo orientado a objetos de la agencia o responsabilidad (humana). En la teoría feminista, particularmente en este contexto de neomaterialidad, la difracción denota un modo crítico de búsqueda de diferencia en el conocimiento y el pensamiento de la creación artística. La epistemología artística se puede apartar de las entidades de agenciamiento dadas como unidades programadas y consideraríamos que los agenciamientos de estos actantes (seres, culturas, objetos, híbridos) estarían producidos y re-imaginados de manera procesal, relacional y asimétrica (todo a la vez).
Este modelo de metodología epistemológica propone un concepto de identidad y diferencia no dualista y no separatista, en el que las categorías, los grupos identificados e incluso las entidades individuales identificadas, se entrecruzan, interfieren y co-establecen de manera difractiva, y las diferencias se respetan y se permite que existan y prosperen. Entrelazando los no-humanos y las nuevas materialidades con el conocimiento, la difracción resalta las acciones e interrelaciones sistémicas y los cortes agenciales48 inevitables que co-constituyen usuarios, objetos y las formaciones de patrones en curso en los que ellos-nosotros participamos.
La difracción así presenta un potencial que planteamos necesario y urgente. Darle la bienvenida no indicaría en ningún caso el deseo de ser adoptado por los programas científico-tecnológicos ni las programaciones. Más bien, indica la apertura y agenciamento de dispositivos críticos que interrumpen, penetran, intervienen y separan (difractan) los procesos de significación programada en este siglo XXI. Ahora bien, Foucault acepta que existirían relaciones de poder que se fijan de tal modo, que llegan a ser perpetuamente disimétricas y en las cuales el margen de libertad sería extremadamente reducido. En ese caso, aclara Foucault, habría que hablarse de “estados de dominación” al igual que en grados de virtualidad, pero aun en dichas situaciones cabría esperar que se forme la resistencia y la subversión. Una lectura difractiva también puede ser útil cuando se observan que en primer lugar, el germen de una hibridación conflictiva entre dos disciplinas de conocimiento (las artes y la técnica), y por otro, la necesidad de justificar en la teoría corporal una necesidad de acción práctica. En medio de estos planteamientos, vale la pena reconocer las propuestas artísticas que usan los espacios de simulación y bodymapping como tecnologías de visión y experimentación en varios contextos en los que la realidad se ha sumergido totalmente en la virtualidad —y por tanto, creado pluralidad de estados de realidad. En esta línea, destacamos la existencia de interfaces interactivas que permiten, a través de diversos grado, una autoconstrucción y modificación de la imagen corporal. Desde el photoshop al morphing, podemos, como usuarios comunes, aplicar nuestra creatividad para cambiar nuestro look, activando nuevos imaginarios que reconfiguran el cuerpo. Se abre, con ello, una nueva era para las pantallas, que permiten ahora no sólo una visualización como “ventanas” al mundo sino su consideración como verdaderos engranajes de él, generando una constante creación y recreación de diversos mundos.

Oxman and her team went about this by gluing a tiny magnet to the head of a silkworm in order to map digitally the pattern of its cocoon spinning process. Once mapped, the pattern was to be translated to the 3-D printer, which would then produce the cocoon for a larger human scale of habitation.”
