Neru’s eyes snap open as she sits up in aflash.

Her surroundings are unfamiliar – but moreimportantly, the pain is gone.

She presses a tentative hand to her chest. Itdoesn’t hurt, like she’s never had any life-threatening wounds to begin with,but her clothes are caked with dried blood and the sound of gunshots still echoin her ears.

‘Ah. You’re awake.’

A girl no older than Neru materialises onthe other side of the room. Her hair is kept in perfectly-curled ringlets; her figure,swathed in shadows. As she drifts closer, Neru tenses, wondering if this is themoment that spells her end.

‘My name is Teto – High Priestess Teto, really,but Teto is fine.’

The sharp edges of Teto’s grin are more feythan human.

‘Welcome to the coven, new initiate.’
