1/1 Edgar Johnson cut my hair. I am 5' 3 1/2" and weigh 116 pounds. (109)? +40°

1/2 I slid with Luther 5 times in the fog. Luther came up here. Played Pitt. +40°

1/3 It snowed 3 inches last night. School began. Dean P. came to school. +17°

1/4 Harry got a book for me last night. Julia came up here. Windy. ±0(snowy & windy?)

1/5 5+ My clock stopped. Julia went away. Billy is lame. This is the coldest day so far.

1/12 Harry and I went to the M.E. Church supper and walked home. We rode to school. +17°.

1/14 Elbert and Bunday came up here. Went skis sliding with Bunday. -2°

1/17 Harry and Hugh went to the Grange.

1/18 Harry and Hugh got their pictures. Hugh rode home with Grandma. +14°

1/20 I got 2 pictures of the '07 track team. I took my game board down to Edgar's. +24°

1/21 Harry took his oxen out into the woods. I trimmed 3 bbls. of turnips. Saturday. +2°.

1/22 The Game Bird series of soda cards has begun. +24°.

1/23 Gygg stayed at home. I had a bad headache. I made a fountain pen holder. -5°

1/25 Papa sent to Sears Roebuck and Co. I sent for 7 books. +5°

1/26 Hugh went to the dancing school with Grace Barden. I wore a sweater to school. -5°

1/28 Guy came up here. I trimmed some turnips. Played Pitt and 63. +13°.

1/29 Guy stayed overnight. Went out to walk on Harry's skis.

1/30 Papa subscribed to the Metropolitan. We began Roman history. +3°

1/31 Harry and Hugh went to the Grange. -6°

2/1 The Grange moved. Ben came up here to get Hugh's snowshoes. -8°

2/2 I debated and my side won 5 to 7. Hugh went to the dancing school. +1°

2/3 Elbert came up here and stayed overnight. Mrs. Rogers was to be hanged today. -8°.

2/4 Elbert went hunting with Harry and Hugh. I trimmed 1000 turnips. -4°

2/5 I finished reading "The Young Voyagers." Harry saw a fox. I had a stomach ache. -11°

2/6 I saw 3 foxes. 2 were fighting. I shot at 2 with Hugh's rifle. I got a pair of skis. +12°

5/12 Addenda: Papa sold his wool (949 pounds) to Mr. Perkins for $.30 per pound.

5/13 I went suckering [catching suckers in the brook] with Hugh, Luther, & Albert Atherton. We started at 7 P.M. 46°

5/14 We got to bed at 3 A.M. Got about 40 pouts in all. The longest was 14 1/2" 54°

5/15 I stayed at home. Caroline went away. We get up only five cows. 53°

5/16 I stayed at home and painted buttery floor. I weigh 124 pounds. 54°

5/17 Two dogs killed 1 sheep, hurt 2 more ewes, and killed one lamb. 50°

8/30 I went over to Farnham's and came home in the thunderstorm. 58°

9/2 Came home in 5 1/2 hours. It was too smoky (hazy on Mt. Ascutney) to look off. Saturday. 46°

9/3 Ellice had a party last night of about 12 people. Sunday. 59°

9/4 Papa is fixing the new hen yard, east of the little barn. Did nothing. 60°

9/5 Harry, Ellice, and Polly went to Durham. Harry begins his 1st term in N.H.College. 56°

9/7 Hugh is up and around. I do not feel very well. Took some caster oil. 54°

9/8 I picked a cauliflower. Blackberries are gone by. Friday. 46°

9/9 I worked on rowen in rough patch. It becomes dark at 7 P.M. We had a cabbage. 44°

9/11 L.H.S. opened. It begins 8:30 A.M. The Principal is Crowell. Got out a 10 A.M. 50°

9/12 School kept 1/2 of an hour. Papa is fixing the ox stable in the lower barn. 53°

9/13 I am taking 4 studies. School kept 1/2 a day. 56°

9/14 Had a light frost last night. School kept 1/2 day. Thursday. 34°

9/15 Had another frost. School kept 1/2 a day. They got in oats in 10 acre ot.

9/16 We made some cider. Hugh and I went down to Labor's.

9/17 Hugh and I take turns getting the cows. Caught 3 rats last night. 52°

9/20 Came home in the rain. Papa is cutting his corn & began today.

9/21 Uncle Torrey came here. Thursday.

9/22 My wheel has given out. My hind tire leaks. Friday.

9/23 I picked up butternuts. Saturday.

9/24 Hugh and I caught 2 butternut thieves. Sunday.

9/25 I walked to school. Uncle Torrey Townsend left us (great uncle, 76 at this time).

9/26 I rode to school with Grammie. It is awful cold. Tuesday.

9/27 Warmer. I began to pick the Porter apples. Wednesday. 34°

9/28 They finished cutting corn. I got a 50¢ jackknife. 42°

9/29 I have picked 3 bushels of Portors. Hugh and I went over to Walleys. 42°

9/30 A fine day. I got 80¢ a bushel for potatos. Picked up potatoes. Saturday.

10/1 Hunters are thick today. Luther came here. Sunday.

10/2 I picked 1 bbl of long apples after school. Sent for an inner tube.

10/3 Picked 1 bbl greening apples. Tuesday.

10/4 Picked 1 1/2 bbl of greenings apples in the hedge. I have a cold.

10/5 Cold. Picked apples. Thursday.

10/6 Picked apples. It is cold and chilly. I tend the separator.

10/7 Had a frost last night. Picked 4 bbls of apples. Jay came here.

10/8 Mama and I went over to the old cemetary. The oldest date is 1774.

10/9 Heard a lecture given by Dr. Ryder on Australia.

10/10 Papa cut my corn. Fixed my bicycle. I pick apples every day.

10/11 The cows have come up to the barn for about 3 weeks.

10/12 Recreation came today. Elbert came up here to hunt.

10/13 Recreation came out this week. Elbert came up here to hunt.

10/14 Picked 44 bbls of apples. Helped set out 35 nut trees on this place.

10/15 Hugh and Mama went to church. My eyes ache.

10/16 Papa and Mama went to Springfield and came back later. Tomorrow.

10/17 yesterday. Grandma Townsend is sick abed and is bad off (she dies 6 months later).

10/18 Got out early of school. A stook(stalk?) of corn fell and killed a chicken.

10/19 I went down to the football grounds. Thursday.

10/20 Husked corn and headed up apple bbls. School did not keep.

10/21 0. It is cold and chilly. Saw abut 50 geese go 1 mile a minute.

10/22 Luther came up here. Had a freeze last night. Sunday.

10/23 I picked 1 bbl of russets. Sold Ridd for $5.60. 112 lbs live weight.

10/24 It is awful cold. Sat Oct 1st. I got in the beets and carrots.

10/25 I went to a football game between Dar. '09 and L.H.S.

10/26 It froze and spoiled wheeling.

10/27 They turned out the cows in the south fields.

10/28 Edgar shot a buck deer on Lyjbord's(?) Hill. Husked popcorn.

10/29 I have a bad cold. Stayed in the house all day.

10/30 Papa got in some turnips. William Bosworth is picking our cider apples.

10/31 I have picked 25 barrels of apples this fall. I have to walk to school.

11/1 Dellie Campbell came up here and hunted with me. No luck.

11/2 Joe makes cider about every evening. The ground is frozen every day.

11/3 Went to see Edgar this evening. Will Bosworth finished picking cider apples on halves.

11/4 The East hills were capped with snow all day. Worked on historical maps.

11/5 Edgar cut my hair. Jay came up here. Sunday.

11/6 3 inches of snow fell last night. Awful walking.

11/7 Papa sold some cider apples to White. I went huntng after school.

11/8 Came home in the rain. Papa sold more apples.

11/9 The east hills are capped with snow. I do not feel well.

11/10 Jay came up here and stayed overnight. Saw a crow. Friday.

11/11 I had the gripes. Albert came up and went hunting. Luther came for the night.

11/12 Will Cobb came up here. I feel better. I read Macauley's Life of Johnson.

12/13 Came home in the snow. Papa sold a pig to Ed Hutchins.

11/14 Hugh and I cut pear trees below the house. Coldest day yet. Tuesday.

11/15 Cold. Chopped two tree below the house. Hugh cut 1 more of the pears.

11/16 Warm. I cut 3 pear trees which finished them making 14 in all. 13 pear.

11/17 Hugh and I cut 1 apple tree. Friday.

11/18 I cut some old plum trees near the east wall. Saturday.

11/19 Stayed in the house. Sunday.

11/20 Luther hurt his ankle last Saturday. Hugh cut another apple tree.

11/21 We cut the large tree below the sweet apple. They finished husking corn.

11/22 I saw a large fire out east in the evening.

11/23 I weigh 130 1/2 pounds.

11/24 Papa went down to Springfield and I separated the milk.

11/25 I went hunting with Elbert. Saw 3 partridges. I made a boomerang.

11/26 I popped some popcorn raised this year. Not quite dry enough.

11/27 I have begun to read Lewis and Clark's Expedition.

11/28 Harrigan came up here and we went hunting in the south woods.

11/29 School kept only 1/2 the time.

11/30 Thanksgiving. I stayed in the house al day. No school.

12/1 Papa placed the separator in the wash room. Stayed in the house most of the time.

12/2 Papa got a sheep off Bensen. Stayed in the house.

12/3 Stayed in the house.

12/4 Two inches of snow fell last night. Stayed at home. Monday.

12/5 I stayed at home and read Lewis and Clark. I popped some new corn.

12/6 I stayed at home but feel better. Read most of the time.

12/7 Stayed at home and fixed up some popcorn to dry in the kitchen and on the arch.

12/8 Stayed at home. Snow is melting. I worked on my maps most of the time.

12/9 I feel better. Mary Rogers left the other day for good. There is little snow now. 1 inch.

12/10 Stayed in the house. I wrote about 5 hours on a story.

12/11 I went to school in a wagon. We put our team in Knapp's stable.

12/12 The thrashers came and thrashed (threshed oats?) from 10 to 6. I walked to school. Hugh helped thrash.

12/13 Warm. They finished thrashing at 6 1/2 o'clock. Walked to school. The snow is melting.

12/14 Walked to school. Hugh is sick. It is colder. 3 in of snow in all. Thursday.

12/15 School closed at noon. Rode to school. Cold. Friday.

12/16 I began to trim turnips. Papa feeds the sheep 2 pds(pounds?) each night.

12/17 I stayed in the house all day. My eyes feel bad. Sunday.

12/18 Papa is drawing hay from the Fox Place. Monday.

12/19 They finished drawing hay. Papa brought home a pig killed yesterday.

12/20 I read in Lewis and Clark. The snow is thawing. There are only about 2 inches.

12/21 Papa made some sausage.

12/22 Harry and Ellice came home at 10:30 P.M.

12/23 I went to see Dr. Van Doble. Elbert came up here.

12/24 I stay in the house most of the time. Sunday.

12/25 They cut 2 pines on the south side of the dooryard. Harry has guitar.

12/26 They cut three more pine trees. Harry has a $4.50 dollar camera.

12/27 Harry cut the ash tree by the east field barway. 4 inches of snow.

12/28 I went down to the village with Ellice. Ellice, Hugh and Harry went to a dance.

12/29 The hills are only half covered with snow. Snow is thawing.

12/30 Dr. Brockway came here. Harry developed some plates.

12/31 C.D. Hazen of Hartford came to see E.S.T. Harry and I made some pictures.
