“We need more reception arcs like Zuko’s!”
Baby girl, you couldn’t even handle Taigen.
A huge reason why Zuko has been immortalized so fervently is because ATLA came out in the mid 2000s, nearing two decades ago. With the state of basic reading comprehension, much less media literacy, social awareness, and chronically online behaviour that exists nowadays in a way it did not exist fifteen years ago, I would be surprised if the live action ATLA tv adaptation didn’t make Zuko a bit more likeable right off the bat. I’m not saying I agree with it, but if the show-runners are concerned about audiences reactions to Sokka’s (wrong, but relatively mild) sexism that exists in only the first few episodes of the show, then the idea of redeeming Zuko has got to be terrifying them. Tbh I don’t entirely blame them, even though I’m not certain it’s a good idea for the story as an adaptation.

It’s not that people don’t like the new Avatar Show, it’s that they don’t like how the new Show is taking away plot points key to the story or vital to character development. And if they are there, they’re slotted in the Show in a way that doesn’t make sense

I just finished The City of Brass (the first of The Daevabad Trilogy) and I need an adaptation of these books ASAP. But like, a true, accurate, not-white-washed, Adaptation with a capital A. No half-assed generic "Arab" bright coloured exotic kind of music shit that Netflix will pass as the "greatest series ever produced". I want to hear the differences between the languages (Divasti is different from Geziriyya that is different from Arabic), I want to see the different kind of clothes (appropriate to the specific culture and region they are drawn upon), and most importantly I don't want all actors with a British accent. It's not realistic, it never has been. I don't care if it's fantasy, I don't care that we are in the 18th century, they cannot all have a British accent; give me Persian, Afghani, Turkish, Arabic, East African accent. These books are so interesting because they draw from so many different cultures and folklore and traditions, let's try not to generalise them, yes? So the main point of this to Netflix in case it wasn't clear: DO A FUCKING RESEARCH, THANK YOU.

hey guys! 👋
There's something I'd like to share with the world, maybe not even thaaat cool, but, well, here it goes:
I've been working on another doll project for some months now, and let me tell you, this doll literally changed my life. For the people who aren't used to the OOAK doll world, it might seem like nonsense, but since I started this big boy, my depression and anxiety got a lot more easier to work with, my relationship with myself is now a lot better and the confidence I gained from the results is a lot too.
So, anyway, here's what I have done on him so far:

The last picture is for sure a bonus!
look at his little sandals 😭

So, I'd like to add the information that this gentleman is, in fact, a Ken BMR1959 GHT model, to be soon turned into Isaac, from the Netflix Castlevania's series; and yes, i might have a little obsession over this series by now! lol 😆

All the Light We Cannot See
Finished the Netflix adaptation and it was... okay. Just okay. I'm surprised it was only 4 episodes, tbh. Thought they'd milk it for at least 10 episodes and a lot of stuff was cut from the book... like his whole friend at the horrible school who literally changed his life??? Frederick. The one who reminded him of his humanity and was the whole turning point for him trying to do better with his life. It was so strange to see that pivotal character removed. I have to say, I'm glad I didn't see him get beat nearly to death on screen, but I'm just shocked they just straight up removed that storyline.
Also, it's just hard in general to adapt a book that is carried primarily by its prose. It's not a very visual book, in that while the descriptions are lovely and detailed, it's not primed for a teleplay. So much film and TV lacks subtlety these days -- especially Netflix stuff in particular. There's a lot more they could have done with it to try to translate some of the beautiful prose into a visual format. It just felt a little phoned in at times. I think Werner was well casted, but it was so strange to not hear any German or French... I don't know why every period film has to be with British accents (it was so weird to hear Mark Ruffalo attempt one lol.. it just sounded off).
Anyway, not to be like "the book was better", but the book was definitely better. Go read it.

I'm not gonna lie, I love the idea of the crows being a part of the darkling/sun summoner/grisha main story. They're so funny, and I feel like they're gonna bring a whole new perspective from the story that we already know.
A film adaption of a story does not need to be the exact same as the book. If you want to consume a story that is the exact same as the book, then read the book. But the story in the book was written for a book, and now that story needs to be adapted to fit a film version of telling this story, and I think including the crows makes sense in the perspective of the show
