when i am with you (there's no place i'd rather be)
Or a Boggie Friends AU taking place during the series finale
Read on Ao3
Reggie stands in front of Bobby, people rushing around them to get to their flights on time.
Tears were falling from Reggie’s eyes and he was holding tightly onto Bobby’s hands, afraid to let go, because the last time he let go, he let go for good.
“Bobby, please. Stay.” Reggie hears his voice crack on the last word, but he doesn’t care because the man he’s loved since he was in ninth grade is leaving on a plane for five years, and Reggie knows that he’ll have missed his shot.
“Reggie, don’t make this harder than it already is.” Reggie can see the tears in Bobby’s eyes, and he knows that he messed up, he’s the one that caused Bobby pain. He knows he was wrong. But he also knows that he can do better. They’ve both grown, and matured, and Reggie can’t let Bobby leave one more time.
“Please, Bobby. Please. I love you. I love you.”
“I’m sorry, Reggie.” Bobby says, tears sliding down his face. “But I can’t do this again.” Bobby pulls his hand free and checks onto his plane. He only turns around once, managing a sad smile, before walking down the gangplank, and boarding the plane.
Reggie feels a sob building up inside him and he all but runs out of the airport.
*
Everything is hurting. Reggie wishes he had done something sooner, he wishes he had been a little braver.
He pulls out his phone to text Julie and ask her to come over and bring ice cream when he sees he has a new voicemail.
Reggie clicks it, and puts the phone on speaker.
“Reg, hey. It's me. I just got back on the plane. And I just feel terrible. That wasn’t how I wanted to end things. It's just- I wasn't expecting to see you, and then you were in front of me and saying everything and- and I’m just sitting here, thinking of all the things I didn’t get to say. I didn’t even get to tell you that I love you too. Because I do. Reggie, I- oh, god. What am I doing? I need to see you. I have to get off this plane!”
Reggie drops the phone, his heart racing. “Oh my god.” He says, his voice small.
Bobby’s voice crackles through the speakers. “I need to get off this plane.”
“Sir, I’m afraid we can’t let you-”
“Please, let me get off this plane!” Bobby exclaims.
“Let him off the plane!” Reggie shouts, tears gathering in his eyes.
“I’m afraid you’re going to have to take a seat.” The stewardess says.
“Please, miss, you don’t understand!”
Reggie jumps up, an itching feeling crawling under his skin.
Bobby …
“Try to understand.” Reggie cries, wishing he had stayed, wishing he had fought a little harder for Bobby.
Why didn’t he fight harder?
“Oh, come on! Why can’t you just let me off-” The message cuts off suddenly, leaving Reggie’s apartment in silence.
“No! No, no, no! Bobby! Bobby, did you get off the plane? Did he get off the plane?” Reggie exclaims, hitting his phone, a sob breaking free.
“I got off the plane.” Reggie spins around to see Bobby standing in the doorway, tear tracks running down his face.
A smile breaks across Reggie’s face and he runs into Bobby’s arms.
“I love you.” Reggie cries into Bobby’s shoulder. “I do. I love you.”
“I love you too, Reg. And I’m never leaving again.” Bobby says, kissing the top of Reggie’s head.
Reggie shifts so their foreheads are pressing together. “Good. Because I’m never letting you go again. I’m not messing us up again.”
“Me neither. No more being stupid.” Reggie laughs and presses his face against Bobby’s.
“No more being stupid.” Reggie says. “You’re stuck with me now, Wilson.”
“No place I’d rather be, Peters.”

Literal shower thought I had:
Carrie wrote "Wow" at a high point of her anger toward Julie. Not as a lyrical middle finger or 'I hate you' sort of way - she seems to be waving a giant flag begging for Julie to acknowledge that she left Carrie to carry their dreams onward by herself.
"We came to play, where you at?"
^This line right here is what did it for me. Carrie isn't heartless, but she isn't happy about waiting for Julie to pull herself together and do music again. Regardless of how their talent compares to each other, their past as friends would be odd if they didn't make some kind of creative efforts as musicians together. Carrie lost a wrecking ball of talent by her side and she knows it.
The other girls in Dirty Candy are talented in their own right, but it took four more of them to provide what Julie would've done with Carrie on her own. And they work very hard to achieve their polished performances. The rest of the song is displaying how powerful they are because these girls are powerful in their own right! They are worth the 'wow' and the 'eyes on them' that they write about. And all without Julie anymore because they don't need someone who has to fight through their grief to get a single note out.
It's a harsh judgment, but Carrie prioritizes her goals and that isn't one of the things that make her mean. She wants Julie to know that she was left in the dust but she got back up and had to do it with her.
