aside from facing discrimination for being a western foreigner, what other problem did Xeno faced in the Hakuouki/Disgaea AU
Okay so putting this under a readmore because whoops this got real long.
Oh definitely keeping their gender a secret. Y’see, Xeno never disclosed their gender to anyone at the beginning and always sidestepped any questions in regards to their gender. Hijikata and the rest of the guys eventually realized that, no, they won’t be getting any confirmation from Xeno in regards to their gender and instead assumed their gender as male based solely on their outfit and their appearance looking slightly more male-ish to them.
Now, I haven’t fully worked out everything here exactly so this next bit here will probably be subjected to change later but Xeno was more or less assigned to one of their divisions to serve the Shinsengumi as well as to prove that they were both not a threat and that they can be trusted.
But didn’t Rei intervened on their and Chizuru’s behalf? Yes, he did and he made sure to chew them all out for it.
Unfortunately, as much as I’d like to say that was enough to fully settle the matter, it isn’t.... At least in regards with Xeno.
Now you need to understand that Chizuru has some traits to keep her alive in near the beginning, such as her being a woman, and she’s the daughter of Kodo, the man they’ve been searching for.
Xeno? They have none of that.
As I have said before, Xeno never disclosed their gender identity to them. If that wasn’t enough they’re also a foreigner and one that somehow has the ability to use magic as well. Very powerful magic too at that.
In other words? The odds were very much stacked against them.
If anyone is wondering, no, I doubt Rei would be very amused by this and he would’ve definitely done something-- except Xeno decided at this point to speak up and bring forth a little suggestion.
Since they’re such a potential threat due to them basically being an unknown than how about they changed that? How so? Why, allow them to serve under the Shinsengumi to prove themself to them.
Now there is a bit more to the debate and I’ll work out the details a bit more some time later but the gist is that Xeno managed to convince Hijikata to give them a chance to prove themself and after some more debating Xeno was eventually assigned to Shinpachi’s Division. And if y’all are wondering, yes, Xeno did turned a tad pale at that since what happened earlier was still very fresh on their minds.
As for the room arrangements, they were able to get their own room; originally they were to share a room with one of the men - the ones serving under the group to be exact - but Rei intervened again on their behalf and insisted - almost demanded actually - that they have their own room and Hijikata reluctantly gave in and allowed it.
Now, as for how they were able to keep their gender a secret from the others, well, that is due to them being very careful as well as being very lucky so far.
As for how long they were able to maintain this... uh, I haven’t really decided yet. All I can say for sure is that they were able to maintain this secret for a decent long time, possibly around a year even. I’ll have to get back to you on this lol.
But anyway, yeah, that there is definitely one of the other main problems they had to deal with. And trust me on this, keeping your gender a secret from just about everyone ain’t easy as it sounds and it even more tricky when you have to actually work and train with others too-- and that there would have easily gave their gender away if it weren’t for the binder they wore lol.

so all the anons are yelling at Shin for what he has done to Xeno, Kim. How does Xeno feel about this lol
Xeno has some mixed feelings.
On one hand, they’re actually glad that there are others aside from Rei who were upset on their behalf. They even snorted a couple times at the ones who basically called Shin a dumbass; a petty little part of them definitely felt some satisfaction upon seeing how upset he looked at being told off by all those folks. Serves him right for what he done earlier!
And yet... on the other hand, they actually felt pretty bad for Shinpachi there.
They’re still pretty upset and terrified of him, and they’re not sure if they want anything to do with him. Why should they? This man not only threaten them but also made it clear that he would not hesitate to end their life right then and there if they didn’t cooperate. God, they can still feel the sharp edge of the sword that, mere minutes ago, was at their throat...
Yet... when they had fled from Shin earlier and hide behind Rei...
Shinpachi... He just... looked sad.
No anger or annoyance or anything like that at their refusal to allow him to come near them.
Instead, he gave them a expression that was like that of a kicked puppy.
And seeing that? That there is what made Xeno realized that Shinpachi is truly genuinely sorry.
And that.. that made them want to give Shin a chance.
But... well... it’s hard to forget what he done earlier. Hell, Xeno doubts they’ll be forgetting that any time soon even if they wanted to.
But they do want to give Shin a chance. They really do. Right now however? They need their space for a little while.
But they’ll definitely allow Shin to talk to them next time... with Rei nearby just in case.
Look, they might be willing to try to work with Shin but as mentioned before, what happened earlier is not something they’ll easily forget any time soon; as such, in order to prevent their anxiety from spiking up pretty badly to the point of them freaking out, they need someone who they trust and feel safe to be around with.

Alright putting this under a readmore because whoops it got real long here.
To put it simply, Xeno would be devastated over this.
She considers Rei to be one of her closest friends and by this point someone whom she considers to be like a brother to her. Not once did she ever thought that there was anything deeper than friendship during those times they were hanging out and just being together. Admittedly there was a few times that she couldn’t help but wonder but the thought never lingers for long and Xeno figures that if there was something than Rei would’ve spoken up by now right?
But of course, this happens and she is just bamboozled by the discovery.
She would be so upset at herself here. Like, she knows it’s not her fault but it wouldn’t do much to comfort her knowing that Rei must have went through so much pain watching her fall in love with Shinpachi.
Now, that isn’t to say she’d regret loving Shin. No, there would be no regrets on that at all. However, Xeno couldn’t help but wonder “what if I hadn’t been so blind? Would I have spare Rei some of the pain?” just like what-ifs like that, only to eventually realize that there is nothing that could be done to, well, spare anyone of the pain. Shinpachi grew to love Xeno around the same time as Rei did, and as such there’s nothing that could be done to prevent any pain y’know?
Xeno would know this and would also know that none of it is by any means her fault since, well, one can’t really control who they fall in love with y’know? Yet that still won’t stop her from being so upset over this for awhile. Like, it’s so bad that she probably would struggle to take care of herself for a few days because how upset she feels at herself for causing one of her dearest friends such emotional pain despite knowing how it’s not her fault.
It would take Rei and Shin stepping in and just talking to her, constantly reassuring her it’s okay and it’s not her fault before she finally moves on from it. Still it’ll take some time before she stop feeling so damn guilty for it, and often they’ll have to remind her again that she shouldn’t feel guilty over it and so on.

KIM KIM KIM WHAT WOULD YOUR SELF-INSERT'S REACTION BE TO SHIN BRINGING HOME A MASSIVE DEAD DRAGON TO HER AS A MEAL
Y’know what? Here, have a mini-drabble as a response.
What.
The.
Fuck.
Those words? Why, those words were my first coherent thoughts through the foggy haze that was swiftly departing from my mind as I stood outside in casual wear, mouth slacked open in a gasp as I stared at the dragon that I was dragged out to see by Shinpachi.
Correction, the very massive and most certainly dead dragon.
“Uhm...” My voice finally returns to me after I stood there staring at the dead creature for several minutes, glancing up to give my friend an questioning look. “Erm... Shin? Why is there a dead dragon here?” And what’s so special about this that it required you to practically dragged me out from my bed at seven o’ clock in the morning? was what my still very much tired and grumpy side wanted to add but I restrained myself, not wanting to accidentally come across too harshly.
Shinpachi beamed down at me, a happy grin spread across his face. “Ain’t it already obvious? I got it for you~!”
What.
“... Shin sweetie, I love you dearly, but you do realize I have no need for a dead dragon right?” I asked after a long moment of silence, staring at him with this deadpanned expression. Just what I’d need a dead dragon for anyway? Maybe its bones and all can be used in some magic shit but aside from that, nothing comes to mind on why’d Shin feels the need to bring me a massive dead dragon.
However, before Shin could get a chance to answer me, another voice spoke up from behind us as a hand came to rest on my shoulder.
“What he meant to say earlier is that he brought that for you to have as meal, Xeno.” Rei said, his tone full of clear amusement.
WHAT.
“.... You guys do realized that I can’t exactly, uh, eat all of that right?”
My words only seem to amused Rei even more. “And that’s why he’ll be eating the meal with you.” He simply said as if it was very obvious.
“... Okay, that’s nice and all but why?” And Rei, I swear to god, if you don’t actually explain this I will smack you upside the head because I’m starting to think you’re messing with me at this point. And I really don’t want to do that to you but I’m tired and sleepy and I just want to go back inside to get some more rest okay.
The amused demon arched an eyebrow, as if the answer should already be obvious; fortunately, rather than remaining silent, he seems to understand that I am genuinely lost here and reaches up to ruffle my hair affectionately. “Is it really so hard to understand, Xeno? Shinpachi gotten it for you because, to put it simply, he wanted to woo you.”
Oh. Okay then.
....
....
.... Wait.
Wait wait wait.
Shinpachi wanted to WHAAAAAT!?
“Pops! You weren’t supposed to tell her!” Shin complained, his cheeks and ears flushing a slight cherry red. He gives the other demon a small thump to his shoulder, pouting at him. “Why did you had to go do that anyway? I wanted to surprise her!”
Rei simply laughs in response to his disgruntled son but rather than answer him, he returns his attention to me with a smile...
And blinks.
“... Huh. She passed out.”
“What?! Why did she passed out?!” Crimson red eyes widen slightly and his long pointy ears began to droop a bit, shoulders slumping a bit as his lips begin to quiver. “She...” A sniff leaves him as his eyes begin to become watery with unshed tears. “She... Pops, you don’t think she fainted was because she didn’t want to...?”
Rei shook his head, reaching over to wipe away those unshed tears. “No, that’s not the case. I promise you that’s not. She definitely did felt overwhelmed by the news, however, and in her exhausted state, it was much for her to handle there.” Than realization seems to hit him and he double checks the time. “... Shin, you do realized it’s only seven in the morning right? Weren’t you meant to do this later?” Well, now it’s no real wonder why she fainted on them. Emotion overload combined with exhaustion can do that to you.
“... Oh.” Shin blushes again, this time out from embarrassment. “I... Uh...” He rubs the back of his head, an very sheepish chuckle leaving him. “I guess I got so excited over it that, erm, it slipped my mind that I meant to do it later...”
A sigh leaves Rei as he shakes his head, chuckling softly. “Well, no harm done. Let’s get her back to bed for now, okay? You can try again later when she is a better state of mind.” He glances back to the dead dragon. “And don’t worry about the dragon, I’ll put it up for you. You just get some rest with her, Big Cat.”

It wasn’t until several hours later when Shin was finally able to get an answer and it was a shy kiss to the cheek from the one he loves, who clearly is unable to find the right words to convey her emotions.
Shinpachi was so happy at her acceptance that he broke into tears, hugging her tightly to him as he nuzzles into her hair.

okay so remember that feasting upon the corpses bit with fury demon Shin from that headcanon list of yours? were you serious about that and if so would they need to be dead first or???
Hehee. Why yes, I was completely serious there~ Shinpachi, when lost in his more bloodthirsty state, has no real qualms about feasting upon his enemies, and even less qualms about whether they’re still alive or not~
Fortunately however, the likelihood of this occurring actually isn’t anywhere as often as you might think! Y’see Shinpachi is actually pretty horrified by this; it’s one thing to like raw meat, it’s another to feast upon the flesh of another sapient being. Yet despite how appalled he feels about it overall, there is still a part of him that actually enjoyed the experience.
Granted, it’s only a small part and one that has no danger of taking him over. But still, the fact that there is actually a part of him that enjoyed it really upsets him, and it definitely took quite some time for Rei and the others to reassure Shinpachi that it doesn’t make him a monster nor is he a danger to them.
But anyway, like I said it doesn’t happen as often and that’s because he can usually keep the bloodlust in check for the most part. However, if anything were to escalate that bloodlust of his? Well, lemme put it this way: he has less qualms about it when it comes to his enemies than he does with his loved ones. If anything, the former is in very much danger while the later has no worries about it if ya know what I mean.

what are other difficulties that Xeno faced in the early months with the Shinsengumi in the Hakuouki/Disgaea AU crossover?
Putting this under a readmore because whoops this got pretty long.
Well, for starters, the general lack of western food.
Xeno isn’t exactly a picky eater by any means but they can’t deny that they were somewhat unsure about some of the local cuisines.
It’s not that any were actually bad per say, it’s just... well, a lot of the favors, textures, and such with some cuisines? Quite a bit of them took some time for them to get used to. Not helping matters is the lack of certain seasonings, spices, and condiments as well. Granted, some seasonings like salt are available at least but others? Not so much. Sugar is technically available but it’s not exactly very cheap around there in that time era (might be wrong but I’ll check later). As for condiments, well, there is only one condiment that Xeno is actually pretty salty I mean disappointed over with not having any constant access to, and that is ketchup.
Now, good news on ketchup that it was invented in 1812 so it’s technically around in that time era. Which is great! However, it’s not exactly so simple because... well, it’s not exactly a common condiment in Japan of that time. It’s more common in the west, like, U.S and Europe. So yeah. No good there.
Anyway, the general lack of western food and having to get used to the local cuisines? It wasn’t too bad actually. Heck, there will definitely be some favorites once Xeno becomes more used to them!
Now the chopsticks on the other hand? Xeno had originally thought chopsticks were pretty neat but after struggling to eat with them for several weeks? Eh, they’re still kinda neat but Xeno definitely prefers using regular utensils like forks, spoons, and etc over chopsticks.
Another thing here, one that’s an actual difficulty, is their cycles. As you can imagine, trying to keep your gender identity a secret from everyone while you’re on your cycle is not exactly an easy thing to do. Especially if you’re one of those unfortunate folks who tend to be very fatigued and occasionally moody while on their cycles. Oh, and the occasional painful cramps definitely don’t help matters either.
Honestly, if it weren’t for Rei’s help, Xeno would probably have a much more difficult time with keeping their gender under wraps. Even with Rei’s help however, it was still pretty tiresome at times; they can’t really, well, ask for a few day offs y’know. I mean, they could but they’ll need to provide a good explanation and Xeno doesn’t know how to explain in such a way that’ll be convincing but also won’t get anyone suspicious. So rather than risk putting any sort of suspicions on themself, Xeno generally opts to simply deal with it and try to continue on with their routine as usual.

okay so what would happen if the person in question is a child? No I don't think they'll go pedo at all, I'm just interested in their reactions because something tells me they'll be OH NO if there's a kid near them while in that state since they don't know what would happen ya know
Nothing will happened to the child, nor do they feel anything nasty toward said child fortunately... but they wouldn’t know that they’re safe for a child to be around and as such you will get an very hilarious scene of the two FREAKING THE FUCK OUT because oh my fucking god why is there a child right here we’re not exactly child friendly to be around right now and will quickly nope the hell outta there.
Like, see that wall? There’s now a hole in its place because oops Rei smashed his way out through in his panic.
Oh, was there an sliding door there? Well, it’s gone too because Shinpachi crashed right through it in his panic.

Hey, mind giving some headcanons for Shinpachi in that AU you and your friend Faye got going?
Gonna put this under a read more cause whoops made this a bit longer and detailed than intended. Also reminder that this AU is still pretty much of a WIP so some stuff here will probably end up changed later once it’s more developed.
Alright, so before I begin, some quick context for those whom aren’t aware yet on this AU:
Shinpachi is a full blooded demon and one who is part Netherworld demon at that.
Netherworld demons are basically the Disgaea ones. They’re just as ridiculous and chaotic here as they are in the main series. Still ridiculously strong here too.
Non-Netherworld demons are basically the Hakuouki ones. They’re sadly nowhere as ridiculous and chaotic as their Netherworld cousins. While definitely powerful when compared to normal humans, they’re nowhere as powerful as the Netherworld demons.
For some more information on the difference between the two demon races, please look at this post here.
Now onto the actual headcanons.
Shinpachi, unlike most demons (well at least those who actually interact with humans often), has pretty good control over his demonic strength and as such any accidental breakages aren’t very common. His control over it while asleep however? Not so great as shown here lol. Fortunately however, as mentioned in the link there, it can be prevented by simply cuddling with him. Why? Who knows! *shot* Okay, in all seriousness, it’s due to him simply being able to subconsciously keep it under control while with someone.
He technically counts as half foreigner due to his Netherworld lineage.
He is actually pretty fluent with Japanese and English; his Netherworld parent was the one who taught him the two languages. Has no trouble switching between languages on the fly either.
Shinpachi has the ability to shift between his human form and his true demon form, with the former actually being an disguise to find the latter. He is also capable of partially assuming his demon form as well.
For those whom are curious, here is what he looks like in the latter two forms.
Shinpachi has fangs in both human and demon form; however, no one really takes any notice of his fangs in human form and those that do generally pass them off as an odd genetic quirk of his.
For the record, yes, he does have long pointy ears though they’re only seen when he assumes his true demon form. And speaking of those ears, he is capable of moving them like how cats and dogs are able to with their ears. And if anyone is wondering, yes, he does like them getting rubbed and lightly scratched too.
He has some Nekomata lineage within him, again thanks to his Netherworld parent. As such, he is capable of purring and generally much more flexible than the average person. He also inherited the universal feline ability to leap up great distances and vice versa as well as longer and sharper nails (the latter of which he needs to maintain daily so they wouldn’t grow too long).
Oh, and before I forget, yes, he can be affected by catnip too. Have fun with that.
He actually has quite a bit of different Netherworld demon class lineage in him. For a bit more context, please look at this post here. No I’m totally not just posting that cuz I’m too lazy to recall the exact percentages of which that makes him up nope.
Now, y’know the classic Disgaea demon logic that all Disgaea demons seem to follow by? Well Shinpachi was pretty exposed to quite a bit of it growing up thanks to his Netherworld parent. As such, some things that will generally phased most people will probably not phased him as much.
Due to being a demon, Shinpachi has better hearing than humans and is capable of hearing sounds that human ears aren’t able to pick up on. That isn’t an invite to go blowing dog whistles around him though ya little shits. Those things hurt his ears like hell y’know.
He is bisexual with a preference for females.
He has a bit of a taste for raw meat thanks to the Succubus and Nekomata parts of his Netherworld lineage. He doesn’t indulge in this too often however for obvious reasons.
The Water of Life, unlike with his canon self, isn’t actually an danger to him due to him being part Netherworld demon. The most changes it will cause to him is one) turning his hair white for his demon forms and two) give him intense bloodlust.
However, despite it not being an real danger to him, it does make Shinpachi more dangerous to others. Why? The aforementioned intense bloodlust of course! Fortunately however, he generally has somewhat better control over it compared to his canon self for the most part.
Also remember that aforementioned taste of raw meat? And remember how his canon self basically went wild on the soldiers who nearly done him in after his Fury transformation in his route? Well, in this AU had he not been eventually stopped by Amagiri, he would’ve probably feasted on some of the bodies of the soldiers around afterwards which would most certainly horrified poor Chizuru and himself once he returned to his right state of mind.

can Chitose walk in heels?
sldkklasdds wrong person to be asking here Anon. Chitose is Vib’s OC here, not mine.
That being said, in my personal opinion, yes, I think he can walk well while wearing heels. He might have a bit of issues doing more than a walk but I feel that he would eventually get the hang of them enough to be able to do other physical activities like running and such. Maybe not quite to expert levels like that of my muses but still pretty good.

They did actually. Right upside the head too. It sadly didn’t do much to help; if anything, it just made him more confused because “why’re you getting so worked up over this? we’re both guys here” lol.
There was also another time he walked in on them just as they were putting on a long-sleeved shirt. Had he walked in just a few moments earlier, he would’ve saw the binder but fortunately that didn’t happened.
That still didn’t stop Xeno from screeching loudly due to him accidentally startling the hell out of them because WHAT THE FUCK SHINPACHI WHEN THE FUCK YOU GET HERE SAKJSDAKLSDAJASA
Rei ended up grabbing the dork by the ear and pulling him out of there.

I honestly don’t know if Rei would pull the same joke on Xeno like with Shinpachi, especially since Xeno wouldn’t, well, go out of their way to really ask about vaginal piercings since it ain’t exactly their thing nor is it something they’d, well, think about y’know?
However, I can definitely see Xeno having the misfortune to pass by and overheard Rei pulling that joke on Shin; the moment what Rei had said registers in their head, they’d just stop what they’re doing and turn to look at Rei, staring at him with that expression for a long time before they finally shake their head and bluntly tell him in this very deadpanned tone “Thanks for that lovely image, ya shit.” before walking off, grumbling about that oh-so-great image won’t be leaving their mind anytime soon lmao

so we know shinpachi wouldn't harm his loved ones even in that yandere-ish feral bloodthirsty state but how does he react to them exactly? again we know they wouldn't be harmed but that's about it.
He’s pretty protective of them actually! And a bit possessive and clingy too, though that bit mostly applies to his partner (and again, it’s up to y’all interpretation on whether you want it to be Chizuru or my self insert oc). But yeah, as I’ve said, pretty protective of his loved ones and woe betide anyone whose foolish enough to go after them while he’s in this dangerous bloodthirsty state because there will be no mercy.
Oh, and if anyone is wondering, yes, he can unintentionally come across as very terrifying to his loved ones in that state. The fact that he actually tends to react a bit differently in said state than how he usually would in his right state of mind toward to certain things definitely doesn’t help either. Fortunately the presence of his loved ones can help gradually deescalate his bloodlust til he’s a bit more in a right state of mind and then eventually even fully calmed down, though how long it’ll take will generally vary.

So from what I can tell so far, it seems Shinpachi in that AU has more trouble coming terms with being a fury than his canon self. Hmm, I wonder, maybe it's the fact that his canon self was fortunately stopped a bit into his rampage after his fury transformation while in the AU he wasn't stopped and instead continue on with that rampage. The fact that his canon self didn't recall the incident right away probably helps a bit too. Is that right?
More or less yup! Funny thing here though is that this is something that I always considered for the AU but haven’t got around to bringing it up to Vib yet. Or at least, pretty sure I haven’t yet? Eh I can’t recall if I did or not but I’m pretty certain I hadn’t yet.
But anyway, yeah, Shinpachi unfortunately has a much harder time coming to terms with being a fury than his canon self. It’s like you said, his canon self was fortunate to have been stopped before his rampage went on for too long while in this AU that didn’t happen, and so as a result he continued on and unfortunately for some of those soldiers he didn’t settle with simply killing them. Oh no, some in fact were very unfortunate enough to spent their last living moments being feasted upon and Shinpachi, deep within that bloodthirsty rage, thoroughly enjoyed it (and then later un-enjoyed and became sick to his stomach once he had calmed down and the bloodlust had left his mind but that’s goes without saying lol).
Oh, and speaking of Shinpachi, I believe I should mention that, yes, he can be pretty sadist while in deep in that bloodlust (and yandere-ish too but pretty sure y’all probably already know that bit from Vib’s blog lol). So another reason you don’t want him in that state as your enemy.

Oh lord. Well, it will depend on whether the fairy is involved or not (and speaking of fairies, I’m assuming you’re referring to these fairies here). If they’re not involved with the conflict, then chances are the most they’ll get is Shin instinctively bringing up his hand smack them away.
If they’re involved with the conflict though... well... remembered how I mentioned how Shin has no real qualms about eating his enemies whenever he’s really lost in his bloodlust? Well.... how do I say this...
Okay, I might as well as be blunt. Shin will instinctively react to this by trying to bite at it and if he manages to succeed... well, uhm, there will be a loud CRUNCH followed by some loud crunchy chewing as he devours the unfortunate fairy.

I presume that Shinpachi in the AU is very much familiar with the concept of trans people thanks to Rei right? I have to ask however but... uh to word this uhm do you think there was a time that little kid Shin got confused on why his dad uh lack a certain part?
Yup! He is also very accepting of those whom consider themselves non-binary as well, and tends to get very peeved if someone tries to give folks like them and his dad shit for it too.
LMAO most likely yeah. Probably walked in on his dad while he was in the middle of changing or it happened while they were bathing together during one hot summer in the river or whatever. I can only imagine the sheer confusion and concern kid Shin must have felt at that time though I’m certain Rei was quick to explain and reassure him lol.
