There’s no such thing as work-life balance for neurodivergent & chronically ill people.
This is because everything in my life requires work:
maintaining friendships
keeping up with my hygiene
managing bills
making money
remembering my basic needs
sleeping regularly
outputting creatively
All requires some aspect of work for me.
And when everything in your life requires work, your balance goes out the window.
If you're neurodivergent and overwhelmed — I see you.
If you're chronically ill and overwhelmed — I see you.
You're not dysfunctional.
You're not incapable.
You're doing your best.

Autistic People: There are multiple things making common, low volume noises at one time. It is too much noise at once and if I don’t cover my ears I’m going to have a meltdown.
Also Autistic People: If I can’t feel my music vibrating my sinuses then it’s NOT LOUD ENOUGH

Autism is dumb as hell. I was tossing and turning in my bed for hours every night for like three weeks, then I bought myself a soft blanket to lie on and suddenly I’m asleep in like a millisecond. How the hell was I supposed to know that was the problem. Give me a damn break autism

bitches be like "oh i don't get sensory overload" and then nearly scream and smash their phone into the ground because their little cousin wanted to play roblox and they really like their little cousin and adore her so much but this time the fact that she is constantly talking and her voice grates ever so slightly on the ears and that she's very loud and bubbly and that she's singing and talking and there's music from the game blasting through her tablet as well and cooking noises and smells in the background from their mum and their sister who is also a darling keeps putting her fucking arm on theirs and they can feel their clothes and skin and its also hot and they're also expected to talk and play and be high energy and they just cant fucking take it so wind up ranting on tumblr about it whilst also wishing never to interact with a human ever again.
its me, i'm bitches <333

Neurodivergent people shouldn’t be expected to mask for your comfort.
Digital illustration of a white fem with blonde hair and glasses wearing a beige sweater and brown jeans. She is sitting with her arms wrapped around her knees. Text reads, 'neurodivergent people shouldn't be expected to mask for your comfort.’

Neurodivergent reminder: Overstimulation feels a lot like anxiety, and understimulation feels a lot like depression.
More importantly, you don't need to know which it is to practice self-care.
Self-caring anxiety and overstimulation looks the same:
Recognize you're feeling big feelings
Take as many deep breaths as your need to slow your mind
Identify what’s causing the feeling, whether sensory, environmental, or situational
Minimize that cause as much as possible immediately
Self-caring depression and understimulation looks the same:
Recognize you’re in need of stimulation
Turn on an interesting long-form video of some kind
Do some quick exercise like a walk or jumping jacks
Call a friend that'll let you infodump
If you're neurodivergent and easily get stuck on labelling things — I see you.
I'm here to remind you that you don't need to know what it is to take care of it in the meantime.
You can — will — figure it out later.
