sitting pretty (edward cullen x gn!reader)

You could tell he was looking at you. His eyes had a presence of their own.

“What do you want?” You asked teasingly, without looking up.

“Your attention, preferably.”

You smiled impishly and found your eyes repeating the same sentence over and over on the page below you. He probably knew he was a distraction, or that you were really bad at concentrating.

“Oh, really? What kind of attention?”

It was his turn to be impish, “Only the innocent kind. I am a gentleman.”

“Someone has to be,” you finally turned to him, he was sitting at your desk while you studied on your bed.

“Come here,”

You craved him closer suddenly, wanted to hold him in any way. This feeling often shot you out of nowhere, usually when he was sitting and looking so incredibly pretty (which was a word you found yourself using to describe him more often than not. Smooth skin, soft hair, and brown eyes that you’d always been a sucker for) that you had no option but to crave him.

Edward looked pleased with himself, and you sighed inwardly as you pushed your (unfinished) homework away to make space for him.

“You’re a bad influence, you know that?”

He smirked as he lowered himself to lay by you, and your hand naturally drifted to the side of his waist.

“You’re the one who told me to come here,” he said innocently, with his deep eyes daring you to fall inside the well of them.

“How can I deny you your attention you so desperately crave?”

He smiled, “I don’t ‘desperately crave’ anything,” yet his eyes were playful and he looked seconds away from tossing this playful banter and speaking sad and lovely poetry.

You grinned and came closer, and with every inch removed his eyes got more and more black. Like tar. When your breath could hit his cold lips you spoke, “oh, really?”

He sucked in a breath he doesn’t need and came closer to close the distance, but you leaned back casually.

He looked prettier like this. Desperate, frowning at the rejection of the kisses he’d been spoiled with and now addicted to.

You took pity on him and slid your hand from his waist to go under his shirt, allowing you to stroke the skin there. It was domestic affection, yet he was weak to this too.

“I love you, very much.”

You softened, and leaned in naturally to kiss him. It was slow on your part, loving. But he seemed eager and pushed into you, soon you were laying with him almost sitting on top of you. You pushed at his shoulders lightly.

“Did you just say that so I would kiss you?”

He looked away, “well, I do love you.”

“You’re an idiot. But I love you.”

my boyfriend is not any flavour of queer. he says he "wishes he was" because queer people "just seem to understand the world so much" by which i assume he means we by default actually consider society wrt sex and gender, but he is unfortunately both cis and het. he's checked.

he carries around a copy of "the little book of lgbtq" in his backpack at all times in case he needs to look something up.

a good chunk of his youtube history is queer history / queer media / 'what it's like to be x' videos. he thinks all of you with the less famous identities (ie not the L G B or T) are very cool and funky and hopes you have a good day.

he knows he's straight because he has kissed men on several occasions and was not into it sexually. one of those times was a gay dude who promised to buy him drinks all night in exchange for a kiss and my boyfriend is nothing if not a wee whore. one of the others was kissing his gay friend who was depressed about not being able to hook up with anyone, because he is a very sweet wee whore.

he would do it again because he is very neutral on the kiss itself (not into it, but not grossed out by it. it's just a kiss, innit) and because he doesn't want people to be so lonely and sad that they cry in the smoking area of the club.

#i still think he has some gender fuckery going on that he hasnt unearthed yet #he grew up in a very MEN! ARE! I unironically love how blatantly late 80’s early 90’s all the brothers’ styles are in “The Clothes Don’t Make the Turtle” because like…of course those are their styles! The majority of the media they grew up adoring is heavily influenced by that time period, so it makes perfect sense that they all took inspiration from it. It’s honestly super cute to see, they’re such kids I swear.

my take on the steeplechase trio (and montrose’s mask variants)

#my art #taz #taz steeplechase #since beef is an arm wrestler im kinda entertained by the idea that he keeps it casual from the waist down #but all of his shirts are branded beef punchley shirts #i like to think that all of montrose’s clothes are slightly too big for him because he buys them himself #but doesn’t have the money/resources for a tailor #and he can’t go to dentonic bc his uniform is supposed to be something totally different #i kinda struggled with his mask #but i like the idea that it really is a human face but you can see the edges. the metallic parts of the mask. the little glitches #his skin color is always ever so slightly off #also griffin described his actual face as ‘plain’ so imagine he looks like just some guy. a little babyfaced #while his ‘neutral’ mask is just generically handsome #and i didnt draw that but i think it glitches out sometimes and his face goes all wonky #sorry griffin i took over your boy #emerich was probably the easiest to design he just sprung into my head fully formed #i don’t remember if the give-a-ghost projector is actually supposed to be on his arm #but it is now .#also i would like everyone to think about montrose talking about jesus in that dumbass clean job mask please. thank you

Exposing SVSSS Fanon: 18/∞

SHEN QINGQIU WEARS A CINNABAR MARK ON HIS FOREHEAD

Rating: FANON-NEUTRAL

Many artworks, both fanworks and official art, will depict Shen Qingqiu with a red dot or vertical line in the center of his forehead. While this is not something that is mentioned in the novel, it is not something that would necessarily be unlikely.

Oftentimes in visual coding in guzhuang (ancient costume) dramas, a cinnabar mark on the forehead, over the location of the third eye (this is different than the huadian I discussed a bit in this post), will represent a person with strong spiritual powers or connection to the spiritual realm, especially when used for male characters. It also denotes a particular wealth and status-- basically, meaning that this person is someone powerful and important in cultivation society. Whether there is actual historical precedence to this, or if it is a purely modern aesthetic phenomenon, I am not entirely certain. If anyone has more details or sources on historical precedence for this depiction, please share those!

Cinnabar/vermillion also has a long history of auspicious significance in Chinese culture, both in regards to wealth and status as well as being used for religious or spiritual purposes in ancient Daoist tradition. To this day, vermillion red is still one of the most auspicious colors in Chinese culture, especially used in weddings and at new year's festivities.

Therefore, while it may or may not be historically accurate, because PIDW and SVSSS are novels written during modern times and with modern visual perceptions, it would not be out of the question for Shen Qingqiu to wear such a mark.

As for the common depiction in fanworks, my hypothesis as to the origin of the use of this visual signifier for Shen Qingqiu specifically is the official Thai cover art, which is one of the main influences of fandom portrayal, and depicts Shen Qingqiu with such a mark on his forehead, though I wouldn't be surprised if it were common before that release as well.

Sometimes in fanworks, the presence of a vermillion mark will be used to show a difference between Shen Jiu and Shen Yuan-- with Shen Jiu wearing the mark, while Shen Yuan does not. Personally, I think that this may be more of a visual distinguisher than anything else, but it also would make sense with symbolic design-- with Shen Jiu's character traits of placing high value on his cultivation and also portraying himself as someone of high status, it would make sense for him to wear such a mark while Shen Yuan, who takes those things for granted, does not. It would also make sense for both of them to wear it, as Shen Yuan does still like to portray himself that way, even if his concern about his image comes from a different source than Shen Jiu's. It would also make sense for neither of them to wear a cinnabar mark, if an artist chooses to simply not use this visual signifier.

The only characters actually mentioned in the novel as having any sort of forehead mark are the heavenly demons. Therefore, while Shen Qingqiu's cinnabar mark may be a solid visual depiction, there is no support for or against it in canon.
