I made a little clothing guide for some Dragon Age regions
Some may not be exactly the same as the references that appear in the game or in the concepts, but I wanted to give a little of my vision to the guide.
Ferelden
Ferelden is close to the Frostback Mountains and Orlais and as Leliana and Zevran once said, Ferelden is cold, so I thought it would be a cool idea to put on thick clothes with a lot of fur so the Fereldans can protect themselves from the cold.
Tumblr media
Tevinter
Dragon Age 4 is approaching and it's already evident that we're going to be in the Tevinter Imperium, so I discovered that a lot of Tevinter clothing was inspired by clothing from the Byzantine Empire
Tumblr media
Orlais
We've already seen in the game and in the concept art that Orlais is all about being flamboyant and flashy and what's more flamboyant and flashy than mid-1500s fashion?
Tumblr media
Antiva
Home to the two loves of my life, Zevran and Josephine, Antiva fashion is something I really love… The puffy arms, the breast-enhancing corsets, the leather vests, idk, I just like Antiva
Tumblr media
Nevarra
I don't exactly have much to say about nevarra, but I did some research and found some concepts that I thought were interesting, I also saw in some places that said that the kingdom was inspired by the traditional culture of Spain
So I'll leave two references here
One for the traditional clothes and one for what I imagine might look like Nevarra dress
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Frostback Basin
In Inquisition we can see that the clothes they wear are quite furry and well protected from the cold, so I think it would be a good idea to inspire some of their clothing in Inuit clothing
Tumblr media
The Dalish (1/2/3/4/5)
Well, for the Dalish I had MANY ideas, among them think about adding traditional clothes from some tribes, native Brazilian/American, African, Hawaiian, Inca, Aztec and Mayan
Remembering that I made a great mix of traditional clothes from several tribes and not just one, and that I also have 0 intention of disrespecting any of them, if I have put something wrong or disrespectful you can be free to alert me
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Orzammar
I knew little about Turkey, but when I went to research I ended up enchanted with some of the traditional clothes when I went to research about it and I thought that this style would go well with Orzammar
Tumblr media
Par Vollen
For Par Vollen, I had a bit of trouble finding it, but I think clothing a little bit closer to the ancient Egyptian style would be something interesting. The light fabrics, the golden jewels adorning the body, idk, I like that idea
Tumblr media
Rivain
I was doing some research again and found that part of Rivain's look was inspired by traditional clothing from Islamic Spain and Southeast Asia , so I looked around a bit for something to put here and add one more kingdom to the list
Tumblr media
I hope you people enjoyed! Soon I will add more realms as soon as I finish my research

Varric and Cassandra: Leaving

Cassandra: Why? Are you eager to see me go?
Varric: I wasn't, actually, but now that you mention it...
Cassandra: How do you know I wouldn't just drag you along?
Varric: Be still my heart! I've grown on you.
Cassandra: Like fungus.

Updated: 2023/12
I originally posted this on my old blog. Since posting that, I've found other foods, drinks and ingredients. As of now this list is updated with everything found in media released as of Oct 2023.
Like the original, this is still a very long post that contains all canonical desserts, dishes, drinks, ingredients, and sauces. Unlike the original, I could not list canonically suggested food and ingredients, nor every codex, item, letter, ect in the sources. Because it was too long. I did add them to the individual post.
Like in the individual posts, the list has the country of origins next to each item and any relevant information. Such as ingredients, use, notes, or trivia. For the canonically suggested foods and drinks I list what their real world uses are for your reference as to what they might be used for in Thedas.

Cassandra: I admire you greatly. You have done so much and overcome many obstacles. When I met you, you were but a prisoner, reviled and scorned.
Inquisitor: Cassandra, I was *your* prisoner.
Cassandra: Look how far you have come. It is truly extraordinary.

Pretty much my favourite my favourite choice in Dragon Age is choosing the which one will be the new king of Orzammar in Dragon Age Origins. It is pretty gray with Bhelen and Harrowmont not being good choices and not gonna like I love this choice and hopefully we will see something similar to Dragon Age Dreadwolf probably choosing who should be the new King of Nevarra since King Markus is very old and doesn’t have any heirs.

CONFESSION:
I hope in the next game we get a chance to visit Nevarra After reading about it, it always seemed far more scarier and intimidating than Tevinter. And think of all the mummies we would have to fight!

Poached Flatfish with Cream Sauce
Seafood is not solely the province of the north-east. This recipe is a local favourite in Cumberland, where the catch of the day is gently poached and served in a salty-savoury cream sauce. Pair with a Montfort sauvignon blanc for a light, bright flavour combination.
Ingredients
For the fish:
Four flatfish fillet steaks
One medium onion, thinly sliced
Two tablespoons chopped parsley
Water to cover
Salt and pepper
For the cream sauce:
One small onion, chopped
One anchovy, pounded
Two tablespoons of sherry
Two teaspoons of wine vinegar
Six peppercorns
A pinch each of nutmeg and mace
One tablespoon of butter
One tablespoon of flour
Six tablespoons of cream
Directions
Lay the onion slices on the bottom of a pan. Sprinkle over parsley then lay the flatfish on top. Season well, and pour over just enough water to cover the fish. Cover with a lid and gently poach for fifteen to twenty minutes. Leave in the water until ready to serve, then drain.
To make the sauce, simmer the onion, anchovy, sherry, vinegar, and spices in a double boiler until the onion is soft. Using another saucepan, melt the butter and stir in the flour, then mix well until smooth.
Add the mixture from the double boiler and simmer, stirring constantly, until smooth and cooked through. Add the cream, stir well, then strain and serve with the fish.

One death mage from Nevarra and one healer mage from Tevinter have formed a VERY unlikely friendship - the healer thinks necromancy is so creepy it should be considered blood magic while the death mage thinks the guy from Tevinter is a little stuck up. Together they go out to find a book of "forbidden knowledge", has to escape some qunari and when they're back in safety, the 'vint instantly understands why this is forbidden knowledge - that cursed necromancy again! Amare (lean & tall) and Raba (short & chubby) are two characters played by me and @pamuraidono in two different Dragon Age TTRPGs we're playing (and GM:ing). Even though they're not really adventuring together in the same game, we've made it canon that they know each other. Pamurai was kind enough to suggest an art trade with the two guys and the pieces turned into some kind of amazing "what if" scenario :D In picture 1, I drew Pamurai's Amare, the background and did the colours while Pamurai drew Raba. In picture 2, I drew Amare while Pamurai did the rest. Thanks for the initiative! <3

Highmire
A bustling trade city nestled deep in the mountains and intersecting the border passage between the Free Marches and Nevarra. The city sits sloped along the mountain side, flowing down into the fields of grain and livestock. Feel free to use this resource, or to take parts of it your inspiration in your DA RPG campaign!
You can find detailed map and district descriptions under the cut.
The Old Valley: A section of land on the far side of the Donnastall River. This was the original settlement of Highmire when it was nothing more than a trade-post between the two territories, but now it has much outgrown that side of the cliffs. This area holds many merchant warehouses and one of the town guard offices.
Carborough District: This district is home to the merchant nobles and other high-class citizens and artisans. The expensive merchant shops and collectors operate out of this district. There is a higher count of patrols in this area because of that.
The Citadel: The home of the Merchant’s Guild, the head elected officials that oversee the running and operation of Highmire, with the main focus of trade deals with the Cumberland merchants.
The Green: Is a highly prized outdoor park where many of the city’s elite flock to admire. Special care is taken into the landscaping and upkeep of the park, which holds a plethora of exotic plants and intricately carved sculptures.
Midderton: Is the working-class district, where you’ll find trade shops and workers-for-hire. Anything from ironwork to herbalism, you can find it here.
The Wheat Fields: Is mostly open farmland and range. The main crop in Highmire is wheat, and so the fields flow with golden waves of wheat.
Trebberton: An unkept and unguarded District that the rest of the city has tried to forget. The city’s poorest people live here, but it’s also home to shops of oddity and free-lancers that will do anything for coin.

DA HISTORY NERDS HELP
so in my worldstate post da4 (yes we're that far ahead) orlais disintegrates and at least one part of it becomes the dales. now i havent decided if we get total orlais destruction It's All The Dales Now a la french revolution of the elven servants + dalish orrrrrr if a smaller part of it is still orlais and the elves get the rest. because a big part of it is a religious war between the circle-abolishing, templar banning chantry of ferelden (who's head is the monarch) and the orlesian chantry who's obviously trying to exalted march them for this. also rivain is involved (on ferelden's side) via marriage and i can see nevarra getting involved (anti orlesian sentiment) and the free marches (varric in kirkwall, trevelyan's family in ostwick, and a cousland in starkhaven)
and like. i will be honest im a history nerd but not a war history nerd i have no idea how that would play out. would orlais just become smaller and have a ruler instated by the winners? would it be absorbed into the various countries? would the entire thing become the dales?
maybe it gets fractured and absorbed into the various countries and anora gives the dales (which falls under her new juristiction) to the elves. but then youve got a whole bunch of orlesians suddenly under ferelden/nevarran/marcher/possibly rivaini rule. how would that work. orlesian nobility are so different they just wouldnt work under the ferelden freeholder system for example. WHO would be put in charge of Smaller Orlais if it did remain an independant country post-war???
Any history people or just people who like theorising PLEASE invade my ask box im utterly useless with war history
