The specifics could change but these dates have been around since May, so it seems that Silverborn is indeed delayed to 2024. There’s been no announcement from Jess as of yet, but she's also been on a social media hiatus since the delay.

Soooo I’ve been thinking about Cadence

Baz definitely never took the time to learn how to remember Cadence, so how would he get to be her patron in the first place? Did she mesmerize him into making her his candidate? It would’ve been really easy for her to hang back and tag along for the ride with the giant group of candidates he puts through if she did.

Just based on how she reacts when Miss Cheery gives everyone that Recognizing Mesmerism class, I don’t think she’s putting herself through wunsoc for the family-for-life aspect, she doesn’t strike me as the fame-and-glory type, and she definitely doesn’t need pin privilege when she could mesmerize her way into anything she wants…I’m so curious about her motives 👀

Reading Nevermoor to the 8 year old - Chapters 3&4.

One key thing to share here because it slightly blew my mind in how different her reaction was to my first read.

I thought she’d be a bit scared of the description of the wolves, but not so much. She had other priorities. As Jupiter is trying to persuade Morrigan to hurry up and follow him out of the dining room, small one pipes up “well she’s got to go and get her rabbit first”.

And then, when they are at the window and the wolves are literally at the door to the room, she said “but they’ve not got her rabbit, they can’t leave him behind!!”

The only mention Emmett has had so far in the story is this:

Happy birthday to me, Morrigan thought miserably. She tucked her stuffed rabbit, Emmett, into the crook of her arm, where he’d slept every night for as long as she could remember, and she squeezed him tight and tried to fall asleep.

I don’t think I even really clocked Emmett’s existence before the 3rd book. At that point I vaguely remembered that she had a toy.

But 8 year old saw the problem straight away, before Jupiter or Morrigan did. She has a special toy who really is part of the family and the horror of the idea that she might have to leave him behind utterly dwarfed any scary situation happening in the book. In her words “Pfft, they’re just smoke”

And I’m so fascinated by that.

You tend to get distracted a lot. You say your thoughts out loud and your inside voice does not like to cooperate with you. You let your intrusive thoughts win. People are drawn to you and children love being around you. You own the chaotic neutral genre. You take PE seriously. You were biting other kids when you were younger. You give the best hugs.

3) Cadence Blackburn - you are actually very emotional but would rather sit naked on a hot grill than let someone know. You sideye everyone. You love reading and you love walking around the forest. You either love rain or hate it no in between. Both cat and dog person. You love wearing rings and styling your hair. You use sarcasm to the point where people cant tell if you are being sarcastic or not. People think you are annoyed by them but you are actually happy to spend time with them. Here are some recs to read in lieu of the Boy Wizard series.

I asked my followers for recommendations on what to read instead of That Series™ and y'all definitely delivered. I included my own recs with little descriptions and most of the others are either on my tbr or completely new to me. I made sure to list whether it was a middle grade or young adult read.

I only put two of my favorite Diana Wynne Jones books on here, but anything she's written has magic in some form or fashion.

Slide 2: The Chronicles of Chrestomanci by Diana Wynne Jones (middle grade); A 7 book middle grade series that follows the world of the Chrestomanci—a nine-lived enchanter who oversees the use of magic. The 7 books follow different characters that all intersect with one another. Did I mention there are parallel worlds?

Slide 3: Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones (middle grade); Seen the movie? The book is just like that but far more chaotic. It's still whimsical, but there's more depth and development. It's nostalgic even if you haven't read it before. It's also book 1 of a trilogy.

Slide 4: The Earthsea Cycle by Ursula K. LeGuin (young adult); A series of 6 books that follows the wizard Ged. Very reminiscent of Lord of the Rings to me, but in a more approachable way. (Idk, I haven't read LotR. I've just seen the movies.)

Slide 5: The Redwall Series by Brian Jacques (middle grade); A 22 book series featuring talking animals as protagonists, this series set mainly around Redwall Abbey has something for everyone. The books don't have to be read in order, but publication order is suggested.

Slide 6: Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan (middle grade); A retelling of Greek myths. Neurodivergent rep, badass kids, humorous, and so full of heart! This series (and the others) aren't just for kids. I got into them late in the game (maybe early high school?) and revisited them as an adult and they're so good! Perfect for anyone wanting to dive into mythology.

Songs that angsty mordence edits will be made to when the film comes out?

(Also do we have any info about the film that wasn't from like 4 years ago)

I am being so real when I say that my ability to compare any song to Nevermoor basically starts and ends with “The Wondersmith and his Sons” lolll 🙆 I’m not good with really taking music I listen to and comparing it to media that often, but especially not with Nevermoor because I don’t think that much of what I would listen to could really fit in any ways. 🤷

I’d love to see some sort of edit that parallels Mog’s loneliness as a cursed child to Cadence’s loneliness as a mesmerist, though. That seems like the easiest pathway to an angsty edit lol.

And for the latest news on movie….. all we’ve got is it being announced as changing hands to Paramount as it became a movie musical with Michael Gracey set to direct last year in April 2022. Since then, she did say something on April 1st, 2023 though! It was in response to me on Twitter sharing people’s reactions to my Nevermoor April Fool’s joke, lol. I don’t have a screenshot handy because she deactivated, so I’m sorry that this is very much “source: just trust me bro”, but the latest thing she said was:

I WISH I could give you some sneaky tidbit of news in return, but I fear someone would come and smother me in my sleep. All I can tell you is that some very Wundrous things are happening in the background, and I can't wait to share!

So. 🤷. I’m sure that the Hollywood strikes haven’t helped either, though. The WGA strike ended recently, and hopefully SAG will get a deal soon too as well!! I think the fact that the only two people attached have been working on other things probably hasn’t helped much either, but Hollywood is a mysterious place. Hopefully it doesn’t get stuck in Development Hell forever, but it could be likely that with any news we get, there’ll be long stretches of nothing in between. Idk if any news sites or scoopers are really rushing to know the latest on a musical adaptation of a children’s book best known in Australia 😅

nevermoor characthers accents thougths/ headcanons (minor spoilers)

morrigan- i think she has a very mild accent that almost is gone in book 4/5 but when she gets angry it just comes rigth back

lambeth- lambeth i think also has accent but after telling unit 919 that she isnt from nevermoor (i read it in a diffrent language so i dont know where she is from is called) she doesnt try to hide it anymore

heloise- i headcanon her having a very harsh accent i dont know why

madam chanda- i feel like she migth have kind of the same as lambeth but kind of diffrent

thaddea- i feel like DEFINETLY has one ,maybe kind of irish?

anah- agian i dont know why i just think she has one

Review:

The daughter of a famous wizard's groundskeeper has to help said recently deceased wizard's ghost find a new apprentice while also deal with her home crumbling under the foundation spells. Faye is the daughter of the famous Wizard West's Groundskeeper. She's been looking after the castle with her father for as long as she's known. When her father goes out to work on something Faye is left to deal with a new situation, the fact that Wizard West has passed away and now is a ghost... and he has to name his own apprentice... which means it's time for a competition to be arranged with famous princes and princesses coming to the castle. Faye has to help West arrange the competition and keep it running smoothly... but that means dealing with a whole host of newcomers and guests she was never expecting. It doesn't help that a servant of the evil Shadow Queen is bent on sabotaging the contest and Faye has to stop it before it's too late. Along the way Faye will discover that she's got more magic and courage than she ever expected... and that the perfect successor might just be here. This was a really cute and fun read with a dash of Howl's Moving Castle and a bit of Nevermoor. Faye is such a fun protagonist and the whole competition storyline was fun. I had fun with this and definitely think that this would make a great read for middle grade readers and anyone who enjoys a fun fantasy read.

(A.k.a. The Ceiling Paint Mystery which I changed because it’s a rubbish title and also because the fic deviated wildly into a random collection of scenes involving Virgil which may, at some point, resolve into “oh yeah that’s why that happened in chapter 1”)

I am saved from actual explosion by the word “actively” as I can ignore all the ones I have sat there but haven’t poked at in a month or so.

I’m also cheating at the moment because a lot of the IDEAS that come to me I am slotting into the universe of my Big Fic. Downside of this - they may not get read much as not everyone is into an OC-heavy fic (no issue with that, I totally get it) but I do wonder whether some of them I should pull out and make into their own thing? Also might save @sofasurf some grey hairs in trying to impose some semblance of manageable plot on the big one… but assuming not for the mo…

Some of my first Nevermoor fanarts! In the first picture Morrigan is holding a parsnip. In the dinner scene at Crow Manor the family is served lamb chop and parsnips, and Mog says it’s her favourite dish.
