What happened to us to fail as a society so hard that nearly everyone has a general concept of 'the wizard of oz' and yet fun merchandise and figurines and diy minature book nooks don't exist and the original books are considered 'obscure'

April 3, 2022.

It takes a good two months before a year starts to pick up for me. The first big win was in the final frigid day of February when I decided to take the train to Greenpoint’s Academy Annex for some records; the first stop of what would be an amazing record-store victory tour. Then arrived March. I drove four miles to the shopping mall to look for leather jackets when I discovered a new retro- video arcade opened up. Within a few days I walk in and spent the entire day re-living my Atari / Nintendo / SNES youth. Those eight hours were a thoroughly exhaustive one. I saw games which I threw many rolls of quarters into, to others I only read about and fantasized even seeing up until then. The original Super Mario Bros. cabinet, The Neo Geo MVS, Outrun, R-Type, Taito’s Superman, Atari’s Star Wars. Most of every great moment of my youth spent in delis, card stores, ice cream parlors, long-gone restaurants, and amusement parks were now all in one room.

Good thing I went because my all-time favorite ginger April* made a rare appearance in my store and I had to tell her about it. She came in to buy some A/V components like she always does and we spent a good ten minutes catching up on everything. April was a fangirl and a hardcore gamer of all formats so I had to share the wealth of news with her. Too late. She already went. Still, every visit from her counted as she was the cutest thing of pale skin, glasses, and Irish ancestry I ever seen.

I had another holiday spent with my Coney Island family. My aunt invited me to her daughter’s house in East Meadow for Easter where they, her aggressive right-wing country-music loving Trump supporter sons, her sister, and all the offspring you could think of would be there. A great four hours were had coloring eggs, watching Disney’s Encanto on the big screen, and an endless feast of Italian food were laid out for all to gorge ourselves to death. Blessings were counted and they were enough to cash them in for a bright sunny Sunday. I also enjoyed the hour-long drive from East Meadow through Rt. 27 all the way home.

In between all this was a major event I was chasing for a while. It would be nice to attend a Boy Harsher show and they’ve been making the rounds in New York City quite often. I jumped at the opportunity to purchase tickets after their Halloween show and ultimately got them - only for January show to be postponed. Blame the COVID- omicron for it. But Jae & Augustus pushed it back to April and this time nothing was stopping them from performing nor anyone attending The Music Hall Of Williamsburg.

I learned that it was a two-hour ride each way from my line to Penn Station and back due to transfers at the Jamaica Station. Not good as I had to work a 10AM shift. This time, I opted to drive out to the Babylon stop for a direct line to Manhattan and back for fifty-five minutes each. I went up the stairs and waited only a few minutes before the train arrived on an elevated platform. Nothing special about the train ride on a cloudy mid-50* weather. The show, however, was a whole other story. Everyone enjoyed the opener Twin Tribes and the headlining Boy Harsher hands-down to great fanfare. I couldn’t have waited in line to get some merch- as, once again, someone had to ride home for tomorrow’s payday.

I reversed the path from The Music Hall- by taking the L and ½/3 line back to Penn Station. It just so happened that I missed my train home by three minutes and it cost me an hour more before the next one came in. As I mentioned before, no transfers. Just a direct line from Penn Station back to Babylon where the double-decker cars awaited us. A nice surprise for me sitting in the seats above to contemplate my next major win: Sacred Bones’ 15th anniversary show. It could only get better.

Fifteen years ago from this month, a new concept was born. I purchased a 30GB iPod Classic through a ‘friend’ of mine at WUSB. Since then, I loaded all of my music into it and took it through many train rides. The iPod Classic has retired in favor of my iPhone SE. What once became a distraction has now been an auditioning process for future Omega WUSB shows and seasonal personal playlists. Nothing is off limits. Noise, backpacker, jazz, fusion, shoegaze, noise rock, post-punk, electronics, hardcore - everything. Everything I discover gets played in hopes of either being featured or forever a part of me. With a near endless plethora of outlets, mutuals, and other ways of obtaining music, there’s almost never a moment of silence outside of work or sleep.

What We Know: Mars' Upcoming Projects

After the release of "I Can Only Be Me," Mars still promises new music. But what else can we expect? What about news on shows, music videos, merch, etc? Will we get any of those? Let's take a look at what Mars has promised, hinted at, clues, and even speculation/theories. Mars' Tumblr blog has most of the direct responses I will be providing, as her ask box is occasionally open for fans to ask questions and talk to Mars, herself.

1. TOURS/CONCERTS

Mars has hinted at/teased and expressed a desire for going on tour and performing concerts/gigs again multiple times.

2. NEW SONG + MUSIC VIDEO

It is confirmed Mars is releasing another song. She has stated with the release of her next song, we will be seeing her face. Mars stated a MV is planned. Many are speculating the MV will be to the song "Pete On Ice," which has been teased on her/Ivan's Instagram stories.

3. PRODUCER UPDATE

Assuming Mars is continuing to work with her current producer, the next song should be produced by CJ Baran once again.

4. MERCHANDISE

There is direct confirmation of merchandise in the works.

5. SICMR/MARS WEBSITES

Both SICMR and Mars Argo websites have been private up until today/recently, where there is now a password box displayed. Nobody knows why they were privated, but my guess is because of promo for what's coming next, or maybe even the aforementioned merch.

6. POSSIBLE COLLABORATIONS

In terms of possible future collaborators, many have been asking/hoping for a collab with Melanie Martinez, who has worked with Mars' current producer CJ Baran, has been seen attending an event Mars was also seen at, and has been getting support from Mars on her album Portals.

Fellow artist Alice Glass has also hinted at a possible future collaboration with Mars Argo after the two were posted on social media together, showing the two are friends or at the very least know each other and have hung out. Alice says "I want to very much" in regards to it.

HAPPY SATURDAY THE 14TH

Catching up with 2022 movies so I can rank ‘em. (2021 list.) This week I watched Smile and Halloween Ends. Next couple weeks I’m gonna try to check out Men and Barbarian.

Gearing up for the Year of the Rabbit. So many characters are going to be drawn in Playboy bunny suits. Male characters, because this is 2023. Excellent. :P

Also, just lagomorph stuff in general. Rabbit-themed anything is great. Alice in Wonderland, the Birthday Massacre, Decemberunderground...

New Year’s resolution is to improve my Spanish. Last year I wanted to relearn Latin, but 1.) Almost nobody speaks it. 2.) Church Latin is more popular than Classical Latin. I graduated from a public high school so we learned the latter’s pronunciation. Provincia is pronounced “pro-win-kee-ah.”

One of my besties suggested buddy reading. So after I catch up with Throne of Glass, we’ll start on The Cruel Prince. Then maybe Shadow and Bone, because I want to reread that trilogy.

The holidays were pretty good. A Kit-Cat Klock is finally in my possession. I look atrocious in bright red, so I wore red violet and green instead. Like a goth Baby Bop.

And my phone case finally disintegrated on Christmas Day. So I ordered a new one with a griffin on it. :D Originally I looked for a Carrollian (or TennielIian) one, with him and/or the Mock Turtle, but this is just as good.

We’ve reached Winter Saturday in the Chill Valicer Save, aka New Year’s Eve, aka the last update I played before the Infants Patch and Growing Together! And I’ve managed to keep it to just 65 pictures this time around. :p Look, I don’t know what to tell you about the updates lately, I just have a LOT of stuff I want to take pictures of with these three.

Anyway -- we start with simultaneous pooping. XD Look, I’m sorry, I just thought it was funny that Alice and Kelly ended up using their respective toilets at the same time. A little more seriously, the big event of the early morning hours for these three was Victor handling spirits in the house by giving them gifts! While Alice took care of business and then settled in for a few extra hours sleep and Smiler worked on modding The R.E.F.U.G.E. upstairs, Victor ventured downstairs to offer one of his dipped candles to the little weird glasses ghost who had appeared by the stairs. The ghost accepted this with a question about whether this made them boyfriends and if they should kiss (dude), but then disappeared -- leaving behind ANOTHER bizarre idol! Wow, so now the gang has THREE! I had Victor just put this one in his inventory -- yeah, perhaps I could just start selling them to oddity collectors, but it feels nice to have one on-hand in case of emergencies, you know?

After that, he and Shadow had some breakfast together in the newly-remodeled kitchen -- but when the specter hanging out in THERE proved to be a little too distracting (dang specter sprinkles everywhere), I decided Victor needed to banish them with a present as well. But as he was out of candles, he had to make something from scratch -- so why not try making some lovely apple jam? Despite nearly forgetting what he was doing halfway through to try and talk to the spirit (please don’t, we do not need ANY more fires), he did successfully finish a good batch -- and the specter appreciated the jar it was giving, leaving behind a lovely glass of Soul Sip for Victor to try later! Victor is definitely starting to get the hang of this “medium” thing, I think. :p

While all that was going on, Alice and Smiler eventually came downstairs themselves -- Alice to give Kelly a little affection before moving onto painting, while Smiler decorated the place for New Year’s! Nothing too complicated, just a nice bit of stars bunting for the roof and lights for the fences. :) Though, honestly, if I was going to do this again, I’d do it the other way around -- feels like it makes more sense. Ah well, next New Year’s!

alright concept:

Finnegan writing down his time in Wonderland (mainly bc he likes journaling/writing). When he returns home, he shows off his "book" (which he latter calls Through the Looking Glass) and becomes a Tale like his mothers. Except....he also becomes a Narrator, because he wrote his own Tale down. That's not common. That is not done.

After some confusion and talking with Alex & Blake, it's decided that his Tale is official, but he must publish it under another name: Lewis Carroll - a reference to Wendy's two missing/deceased brothers (lewis & charles).
