maybe not a hot take but is anyone else like reluctant to get new atla content lmao. like the series is so genuinely incredible and the last time they tried to capitalise on that we ended up with The Movie and while i AM excited to have more conversation about atla and maybe even another renaissance (god ive seen what youve done for others... *is talking about the zukka renaissance of 2020*) im also very scared of what is going to be made canon. like a whole movie for zuko? you're gonna give that loser an entire movie now? he's going to canonically say a slur i just know it
You made a good point about Aang in the western air temple. Playing around and goofing off literally after over half of his team sacrificed themselves for him to escape was pretty insensitive. I understand the writers wanting him to deflect but they could have had Aang overtrain himself or refuse to sleep because of guilt like in Nightmares and Daydreams.
I would have love to have him act the exact same way, but have his friends confront him over it. I don't mind that Aang is a spoiled little brat who just wants to play. What I hate is the narrative treating him like he isn't. Katara and Sokka should've gone off on him. You mean to tell me that Sokka- who just a couple of episodes later goes off on a suicide mission to free his dad- and Katara -who just a few episodes earlier was processing her grief and feelings of being abandoned by her father- had absolutely nothing to say to him? You mean to tell me Toph- who for as gruff as she is, really cares for her friends and has a bond with Katara- didn't smack him around for his callousness? Aang is written to be a horrible person. If you change some of the framing around him, he could easily be an antagonist, maybe even the villain of the story. Maybe there's a reason the Equalists weren't super impressed with the idea of having an Avatar.
the problem with the lack of filler episodes in shows nowadays is that this may mean we don't get tales of ba sing se. and if we don't have tales of ba sing se literally what's the point????
As much as I love clan lore and the peaceful clans weaving and storytelling, I am getting thirsty for the ash clan na’vi and Varang. The clan that tames Thanators.. the Metkayina going to war with the sky people after the events of atwow… the Sully’s revenge. Idk. I want angst. My nerdy senses are tingling… I need to channel all of that into a new chapter for my So’lek series.
Ooohh I have so so so many thought so many potential posts to share
I’m gonna try to finish the whole season first, then collect my thoughts and start sharing analysis stuff, but best believe i started that Live Action right at midnight
The one thing I will say so far tho is that I personally love the new lore and backstory we’re getting!! It’s super interesting and I feel like the added exposition works well for the live action, it definitely leads into the more “mature” (aka: typical fantastical action series that we see today). Even though I love that the original series jumped right into placing the viewer into a sibling interaction between Katara and Sokka, making the whole episode feel more natural and intimate, I can see how it wouldn’t have worked as well for the live action.
Visually it looks GORGEOUS! They had a huge budget and it definitely shows. Even though it’s a bit “out there” for a live series, I’m so glad they stuck to the vibrancy of the original series as far as colors and patterns go! They payed crazy close attention to detail for the scenery and costume design and I am living for it!!
The characterization….that’s something I’ll get into later. But the look? Killer.
can you make anons available again on your main blog? how are we supposed to send hc? :(
// the ask box is still open. If you can't send it with your name attached, then maybe you shouldn't be sending it at all. If it's just an embarrassment issue, I get it, but you can ask me to answer on a separate post so that your blog name isn't attached. I'll honor that request.
