馃毃 COVID19 WEATHER REPORT: HOLIDAY SPIKE RAGES ACROSS USA 馃毃
1/1/2024: Okay! Things are bad! We're JUST beginning to see how many people caught COVID-19 during the holidays. Right now it's moving through the USA causing AT LEAST 2 million infections per day (and that's the under-counted government numbers alone).
During this surge, ~100 million people total (~1 in 3 people in the US) will likely get COVID. Different areas will peak at different times, so keep an eye on your local numbers.
Reminder: All our viral data (recorded infections, deaths, wastewater viral count, etc) works on a 2 week delay - the length of COVID-19's initial acute phase where people are contagious and shedding viruses.
We want to slow the current spike down as much as we can by using respiratory masks like N95s, air filtration, and isolating and testing for COVID-19 multiple times after exposure. Hopefully we'll hit the peak soon (and not get hit as hard as Omicron in 2022).
DON'T GIVE UP HOPE! RESPIRATOR MASKS STILL PROTECT US
Respirator masks like N95s and KN95s use electrostatic filters that block at least 95% of dangerous virus-carrying respiratory aerosols, and can be adjusted to fit snugly around your nose and mouth. The few viruses get in, the less "sick" you'll get during the acute phase, and the less long-term damage they'll cause to your vascular and immune system (aka Long COVID).
If you are sick, please stay home and REST for as long as you can - the goal is 14 DAYS even if the surface symptoms seem "mild". People physically need rest to prevent worse damage to our organs. We need immediate emergency aid from our local and federal government to keep people staying HOME and fed and with medicine like Paxlovid.
If you are forced to work while sick, please wear a well-fitted N95/KN95 respirator mask to prevent further outbreak (but surgical/cloth masks are better than none). Avoid CROWDED PLACES, COVERED SPACES, and CLOSE CONVERSATIONS. Stay hydrated and eat easy, bland food, keep cleansing your sinuses and throat with nasal sprays/CPC mouthwash, and take ibuprofen/aspirin instead of tylenol for pain. If you keep struggling to breathe and you can't get enough oxygen, you need emergency hospitalization (look for blue/purple/grey tips to fingers, tongue, lips).
Please take care of yourself and each other! We will get through this.

I'm uncertain if there's a way to save this non profit but I'd like to encourage us all to try. We already lost another this past year 'Body Politic' because they did not get the financial supported needed to continue, which included expansion to be able to operate well.
Part of building community and a better future involves investing. And we cannot hope to have resources, infrastructure and responses to meet the progressive derailing and degrading conditions and societies around us without doing so.
It requires time, energy, heart and sometimes yes, money. The more we put into projects like this, local and small companies, sustainability, kindness, deconstructing & decolonization and less of ourselves and resources into people, organizations and projects that do not care about us or are harming us, we actually have a road to the bright possibilities we hope and speak of so beautifully.

i finally bought my own respirator for work (for using hazardous glues) and i was searching online to make sure i was getting the right mask for the cartridges i need. and 90% of the questions in the question section were asking if they worked to prevent covid. which i get but it was very frustrating like please i am just trying to see if this will protect me from inhaling toluene.

ok. ok i know this is technically the third redesign of hapa but hear me out. this is specifically hapa as new agent 3 post splat3 hero mode. i just really like the idea that they get permanently affected by being exposed to huge amounts of fuzzy ooze
once again putting random headcanons + random thoughts on this weirdo under the cut. warning for some vague mentions/spoilers of things that happen during/at the end of hero mode!!!
-is now permanently growing something that technically isnt fur; the "fur" is ink-based + carries the same color as their ink. can be dissolved via the intake of power eggs + submersion in ink. stays short and velvety if maintained this way. can and will grow out if they cant regularly get their hands on power eggs (or golden eggs, which tend to work more effectively)
-respirator worn during battles and agent work. previous inhalation of aerosolized fuzzy ooze + being launched into space made their lungs (gills???) more sensitive to things like foreign ink. also helps contain excreted neurotoxins. unfortunately makes them even harder to understand than usual since they always sound muffled with it on
-"claws" are made from keratinized ink. regularly filed to keep from getting too sharp/bothersome
-bowlegged; walks and stands almost exclusively on their toes
-tentacles are NOT covered in the fuzz, but are still fuzzy looking; octopuses can change their texture, they just can't smooth out all the way anymore

MEDIA ADVISORY
NEW: COVID19 variant of interest JN.1
Geneva, 19 December 2023 -- Due to its rapidly increasing spread, WHO is classifying the variant JN.1 as a separate variant of interest (VOl) from the parent lineage BA.2.86. It was previously classified as VOl as part of BA.2.86 sublineages.
WHO advises people to take measures to prevent infections and severe disease using all available tools. These include:
-Wear a mask when in crowded, enclosed, or poorly ventilated areas, and keep a safe distance from others, as feasible
-Improve ventilation
-Practise respiratory etiquette - covering coughs and sneezes
-Clean your hands regularly
-Stay up to date with vaccinations against COVID-19 and influenza, especially if you are at high risk for severe disease
-Stay home if you are sick
-Get tested if you have symptoms, or if you might have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or influenza
For health workers and health facilities, WHO advises:
-Universal masking in health facilities, as well as appropriate masking, respirators and other PPE for health workers caring for suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients.
-Improve ventilation in health facilities
