American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
Like many others, I felt compelled to read this novel after watching the movie starring Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman. As many will tell you, the novel is far more violent, both in terms of gore and sexual violence, which is omitted entirely in the film adaptation. I do find it necessary to provide somewhat of a content warning to those who may stumble on this review after expressing interest in wanting to read the book after seeing the movie. The book, to be expected, is filled with descriptions of bloody, gorey murders, cannibalism, sexual violence, the use of racial and homophobic slurs, and many others.
In terms of the narrative itself, reading the novel filled me with a pervasive, unrelenting anxiety and uneasiness that still lingers upon completion of the book. It was a book that I found to be difficult to put down, and at the same time, I found myself needing to take constant breaks from the gratuitous violence juxtaposed with 10 page long summaries of Whitney Huston, Huey Lewis and the News, Phil collins, or in-depth descriptions of the outfits his colleagues are wearing, an undoubtedly an artistic choice by Ellis to make the barbarity have more of an effect on the reader to the point where it would be hard for me to imagine American Psycho written by anyone else, or in another literary style.
Overall, Easton Ellis’ 1991 Novel American Psycho was an amazing read, however, despite exploring the themes and characters significantly more than the movie, I am less inclined to recommend the novel to newcomers to this genre than the movie. Even while writing this review, I find it to be incredibly difficult to find the words to describe the experience I had reading this book- It’s hard for me to tell you if I enjoyed it, or abhorred it and found it to be the most disgusting piece of literature I had ever read.

Hello! My name is Tânia [you can call me by T or Nia]. I grow up between books, fanfictions and blogs which help developing my love for reading and writing. I decided that it was time to join the bookblr community because I was thinking for a little while where should I start posting my book reviews. For that reason I decided to create this blog as a space dedicated to writing book reviews, participate in the community and just talk and post about books.

Amber & Shadow by Marie Mackay
Tumblr media
Vampire Academy meets Hunger Games
When the book literally opens with a girl stabbing an alpha vampire in the first chapter, you know it's gonna be good.
I first heard about Amber & Shadow on booktok, and fell in love from the first chapter. If this wont get you reading this, I don't know what will.
§ Shifters § Vampires § Magic Academy § Enemies to lovers § Paranormal romance § Slow burn
I loved the banter and back-and-forth between all 3 of our main characters, Axel, Sylas and Briar. The dynamics and relationship with them was so interesting and I loved reading about it. And the fact that they're all in their 20s, I don't know, just makes me love them even more.
I agree with some others that at the beginning, the different types of demons were a bit confusing to keep up with, but after you learn more, it's so worth it!
" 'I don't feel sorry for you.' " <- Briar
" 'I literally feel what you feel.' " <- Axel"
----------------------------
" 'You're leveraging my reputation?' he asked." <- Sylas
"Fucking right I am," <- Briar
A great debut from Mackay, she presents such an interesting and fun world and I can't wait to dive into more.
* I received a free ARC copy of this book for an honest review. *

At the risk of being cliche, I am new to bookblr/booklr and would like some recommendations on who to follow!
A few things to note:
Looking for romance, specifically fantasy romance suggestions, but any romance is fine, and I enjoy both spicy and chaste romance.
Oh, and magical realism! A really wonderful genre and I never know what to read in it.
Not interested in YA these days, but I will read it in a pinch, especially if the characters AREN'T in school.
Love a good book review! Blogs with lots of text and fewer pictures don't scare me.
I've been away from reading for a while, so I don't have too many favorite authors/books I can mention, but I will say that nobody is doing it quite like Naomi Novik.
If you're interested in me, there's not too much I can or want to say about myself. I've decided that playing my cards close to my chest is better than being an open book these days, at least online.
But! I will say that my personal blog will be mostly reviews (from me and maybe others), some reblogged pictures, and perhaps some fanart, once a wrist injury I have heals. Feel free to follow if that sounds like your jam and/or tea!

“When I was five I learned to read. Books were a miracle to me - white pages, black ink, and new worlds and different friends in each one. To this day, I relish the feeling of cracking a binding for the first time, the anticipation of where I'll go and whom I'll meet inside.”
― Jennifer Weiner, Good in Bed.

It’s Slow Burn. It’s tedious trust turning into certain loyalty.
It’s deals made in desperation becoming unbreakable bonds.
It’s noticing, focusing, the subtle shift of light in their eyes, the shifting wrinkles that show in different smiles.
It’s bearing the sting to taste fleeting sweetness.
It’s careful words and cautious actions despite the ticking clock.
It’s holding back a hand to save their suffering.
It’s watching as the pain works its way through their bones.
It’s knowing that the smile you wish to give them, the kind words, would only lead to anguish.
It’s finding other ways to love them.
It’s endlessly searching for ways to relieve their agony and give them the adoration they deserve.
May it take days, or months, or decades. You’ll keep your devotion in a bottomless jar hoping someday they will drink from it, greedily, happily, sore throat eased from your efforts.

"go to hell" or "fuck you" is boring and basic. "I hope your favorite book gets turned into a horrible movie or TV show, with a horrendous cast and script" is smart. It's terrifying. It's possible.
