Accidental Love (Fated)
Newt just wanted to free Thestrals from MACUSA and their cruel ways of keeping them in line. He didn't expect to have a Dark Lord come over to his house for tea every afternoon, nor that the same man would be exactly what he needed. Soulmates: a Dark Lord completely smitten with a magizoologist. Surely, that's not how the story goes?

Nobody could say they’ve run into a Dark Lord twice by complete accident.
Well, except Newt Scamander.
The first time had been a very long day ending in the subway of New York late into the night. Newt had been running about, doing this and that, before being dragged into a high-stakes situation by the Dark Lord. He hoped that would be the only time he would meet the Dark Lord. And yet, the second time was also in America.
Newt had been keeping tabs on MACUSA. They had a small handful of magical creatures in their care. They had Thestrals for their carriages and Newt was horrified to find out that they still used whips and harmful spells on the poor creatures. With solid evidence, Newt was set on freeing those creatures from MACUSA and the abusive conditions. So, when he saw that a carriage test run was scheduled, he made his move.
He was so focused on his goal that he didn’t think about the fact it was the middle of the night. And by the time he realized why, it was too late to stop. There was no way MACUSA would let him go after that stunt.
And that was how Newt came to have a herd of Thestrals in his basement and a Dark Lord on his couch.
The blonde draped himself over the couch as he sipped tea. He wore a shockingly open expression. His wand was tucked away neatly.
Newt didn’t know if that made him relieved or offended.
“You didn’t even care about the carriage, just the creatures,” Grindelwald said, amused.
“I didn’t think there’d be a criminal in there.”
“And yet you carried on. Even now you’ve done nothing expect get me tea.” The tips of Grindelwald’s lips tipped up and his eyes brightened for a second. “So many potential consequences and you haven’t tried to run, fight, alert someone.”
Newt looked away. He had too much to lose; he couldn’t go running to anyone. “What do you want Grindelwald?”
“Nothing,” the blonde said. But when Newt gave him such an expectant look, he blurted out the first thing that came to his mind. “Call me Gellert.”
Newt bristled. That wasn’t a thing people just did, and a man like Grindelwald enjoyed his status. By merlin’s beard, why would he ask Newt of all people to call him by his first name? Newt frowned, slightly annoyed to still see the open expression on the other man’s face.
Hastily, he rose from his seat and left for his kitchen.
Grindelwald watched him go. He shouldn’t have been there; he didn’t know why he hadn’t left yet. There was just something about the red head that had him curious – something his visions enticed him with that he wasn’t allowed to see clearly. Whatever it was, he knew he had to wait and find out lest he lose it.
Finishing his tea, he set the cup on a coaster. He didn’t miss the pleased look Newt had made when he noticed.
“I’ve run out of biscuits,” Newt said. He stayed standing, unsure of what to do. His eyes kept wandering to his basement door worriedly. The Thestrals had been left in an enclosure to calm down, but he was anxious to go down and begin his work with them.
Grindelwald hummed as he stood. He supposed he shouldn’t keep the magizoologist away from his creatures for too long.
“That’s alright. I prefer cakes anyways.” Grindelwald wore a small, soft smile as he spoke. “I shall see you tomorrow night.”
Newt was lost, unable to recall if the man used the door or apparated.
He had no idea what he had gotten himself into.
Somehow dressed casual and luxurious, Grindelwald appeared the following night as he said. He took his spot on the couch again, waiting patiently as Newt prepared some tea for them. When the younger man returned, he could not help but be delighted by the small plate of cake slices brought with.
Newt, with all his strength, told himself that he didn’t see the way the Dark Lord lit up.
He was a Dark Lord for Circe’s sake. There should not be a pleasant smile on his face, and Newt most certainly shouldn’t find it pleasant.
Newt stared at the cakes, unsure why he bothered to buy them. He didn’t need to follow orders from the blonde, and yet he went out specifically to find cake. A little voice in his head told him it had to do with the smile he saw earlier, but he decided to block it out. It was a ridiculous thought.
“I apologize for my actions in America,” Grindelwald said into the silence. His voice was earnest, his eyes hidden as he focused on pouring two cups of tea.
Newt tilted his head. A completely unprompted apology from a ruthless Dark Lord. “What do you want, Grindelwald?”
“Gellert,” the blonde corrected. He said nothing else.
Newt rolled his eyes. “What do you want, Gellert?” He asked. It felt strange to call him by such name, but it was the shorter choice.
“You’re a curiosity. A beautiful one. Am I not allowed to wonder? Everyone, even many of my followers, fear me. You don’t. It’s in my nature to want to know why.”
Newt fought against a blush. He had never been called beautiful before, but he had to focus. “And the best way for you to do that is over tea and cake in my house?”
Grindelwald smirked. “Is that an offer to have tea in your bedroom?”
Newt’s cheeks turned a furious pink. He scolded himself and tried to clear his mind. “No,” he said sternly. “Why aren’t you in hiding?”
Grindelwald almost mentioned the blatant change of topic. “I don’t need to.”
“Surely everyone would already be searching for an escaped criminal? Even you shouldn’t be this calm about it.”
“As far as MACUSA is concerned, I am still sitting silently in their little cell. Last night was simply an unfortunate accident for one of their workers now lost to the sea,” Grindelwald explained. He had been able to easily convince a lost fool to switch places with him in exchange for a better position in life. He supposed he would follow through with his promise and not make the man a simple acolyte.
He stood up before seeming to promptly forget what he was going to do. “Bathroom?”
Newt directed him to the downstairs bathroom but otherwise stayed seated. He used the silence to wonder what he did to get stuck with a curious Dark Lord until he felt magic settle over everything.
Arms crossed against his chest and a frown on his face, Newt waited until the other man returned to his seat. “Did you put wards on my house?” Newt stared right into those mismatched eyes, catching a flash of mischief.
“Sensational. It would have taken others hours to realize,” Grindelwald replied. He was honestly impressed and even more interested in finding out what the magizoologist could do. It seemed like he was weak and not in touch with his magic entirely, but it took little time for Grindelwald to figure out it was most likely a mask. That the red head didn’t want people to know about everything he knew.
“Of course, I’d know, it’s my house.” Newt felt his cheeks unwillingly heat again and promptly looked away. “Is it too reasonable to ask you to take them down?”
“For both our sakes, yes. We don’t need someone to come barging in now do we?”
Newt internally cursed the other man. However, it was a good idea. He really didn’t need his brother barging in and finding him lounging about with the most wanted man in Britain. There was no way he could spin a lie that grand.
Besides, Grindelwald’s work was anything but mediocre.
Newt let out a sigh. “Fine.”
Grindelwald relaxed back into his seat. “How are the Thestrals?”
Newt stopped himself from diving into a rant about the creatures, instead settling for giving the man a skeptical look. “Why?” For all he knew, the blonde could want to take them and use them for his plans.
“I’m not a monster, darling. I do care about others, creatures included,” Grindelwald said truthfully. He wore that open expression again; one he couldn’t seem to get rid of even if he tried. Nor could he control his thoughts as he kept using endearing terms and complements on the red head.
Newt, predictably, blushed at the word ‘darling’. There was no way the other actually meant it.
“Well then…” Newt plunged into a rant about Thestrals and why he had been so determined of getting them away from MACUSA.
Grindelwald listened closely.
It continued like that for a week. Grindelwald coming over at night to simply talk with Newt over tea and cake. It was… surprisingly pleasant.
One morning, Newt was woken by the sensation of magic urgently rushing through his being. It didn’t harm him in any way, but it certainly made him jump out of bed. Only to find out it was the wards on his house alerting him to his brothers’ presence.
Gellert keyed me in? Newt thought, momentarily thrown off. Then he realized it was a combination of his own magic and Gellert’s that was setting off the alarm and an unwilling thrill ran up his back.
He hastily shook that thought away. He didn’t want it or need it.
Rushing downstairs, Newt let his brother in.
“Why on Earth do you have wards up?!” Theseus yelled, way too frustrated for that early in the morning.
“For my creatures?”
Theseus eyed him but let it go. He let himself into the kitchen.
Newt followed behind quietly.
“What?” Theseus started rummaging through all the cabinets and draws, making a bit of a mess. “Where are the biscuits? Why do you have cake? You know I don’t like cake.”
Newt’s shoulders slumped. “I ran out…” he replied, voice low. He hated when his brother did this. He still acted like Newt was the baby brother even though they were both grown men. But Newt never had the energy to say anything. The one time he did caused him a headache that was more irritating than accidently splinching during apparation.
Theseus didn’t always get his way at home or at work, so he had decided he’d get his way at Newt’s house.
What will Gellert say? Newt wondered. He had accidently taken to ranting about his brother to the Dark Lord. All it took was Grindelwald actually listening and asking questions to get Newt to open up – at least about his brother. It was a strange sort of comfort he knew he shouldn’t have.
And yet…
“Don’t you have work?” Newt asked.
Theseus pulled on the ends his suit jacket, raising a brow. “I came by to tell you something, but yes. I do have work.” Theseus sounded annoyed, but it was for more than one reason. He was always in a cranky mood. He waited until Newt asked him what the news was. “The Ministry rejected your appeal.”
“Oh,” was all Newt could muster. That had been his latest and last attempt at getting his travel ban eased or cancelled. He had no other options. If he needed to leave, he would have to do it illegally. Not that it phased him, but he didn’t think I’d be the best thing for his record.
Newt leant his hip against the counter. He had nothing else to say to his brother that morning, especially after he was being so rude.
It seemed Theses didn’t have the time that day to angrily stare and he left within a few minutes.
The rest of Newts day was split between the basement and his library upstairs. The library was where he kept his more ‘controversial’ or prized documents. A lot of it related to creatures while the rest was random knowledge or things like how to escape a country unnoticed. It was attached to his bedroom, a simple portion of the wall enchanted with a password. It didn’t creak or groan when opening.
Newt was about to head back up when the front door opened.
“Gellert?”
The Dark Lord was earlier than usual. And looked deflated. He seemed tired and a little bit out of it. He perked up slightly when he saw Newt, however. “Afternoon, darling,” he said with warmth. He had given up on trying to stop himself from using pet names for the red head as they just flew out of his mouth despite his best efforts.
And why would he stop if he got to see those freckled cheeks flushed?
Newt looked between the book in his hands and the man in his living room.
“Can I have a tour?” Gellert asked. He was curious to find out how the magizoologist lived from something other than his living room and kitchen.
“Uh…” Newt saw excitement in those mismatched eyes, and something compelled him to agree. “Sure, follow me,” he said.
He showed the blonde to the tiny, spare bedroom downstairs. Then up the narrow steps to his bedroom – the only thing on the second level. It was full of blankets and pillows and looked cosy and well lived in despite the fact he often fell asleep in the basement. There was an attached bathroom – nothing special. Grindelwald pointed to an inconspicuous part of the wall and asked about it, somehow just knowing that there was a room hidden behind it.
Knowing the other man would find a way in there one way or another, Newt opened the door to his library.
“Magnificent. You are gifted.”
Newt faltered as he put a book away. “Pardon?”
Gellert didn’t repeat himself. Instead, he took the time to glance over the names of the books and the intricate detailing on the wooden shelves. “Can I see the basement?” He asked. If it were anyone else, he would have simply waltzed around the house like he owned it. He would have already known what was in every cranny.
Newt was silent. He contemplated the pros and cons before deciding that it was okay. He would protect those creatures with his life and his creatures were surprisingly protective of him.
He led the way, feeling as if the blonde was watching him intently.
There were about fifty enclosures in the basement. Some were empty, but most had at least one magical creature residing in it. There was even one that had a pack of muggle wolves. Newt had found them as their natural habitat was being destroyed for housing. He knew that muggles hunted them for fun and couldn’t bare the idea of letting them fall to that fate. They were very much still wild creatures, but like everything else, they were fond of Newt.
Grindelwald was shocked silent. His lips morphed into a smile when he saw the wolves. A smile not for magical creatures, but the muggle canines.
“You are greatly underestimated,” Gellert stated. The basement had been much larger than he was expecting, with different sections and levels. “To create and maintain all of this is truly magnificent.”
Newt flushed. No one ever complimented him, so he could not understand why a Dark Lord was the first person to praise him for everything. “Thank you?”
“Truly exceptional, my dear. You should be encouraged more often.”
“The Ministry would say the exact opposite,” Newt replied. He knew that they would put him on a watch list if he let them know he could do more magic than just the basics.
Gellert’s mood dropped instantly. “What have they done now?”
“Refuse to lift my travel ban. Nothing serious.”
“Would you like my assistance?”
Newt snorted. He wasn’t an amateur. He stared directly into those mismatched eyes, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “I have my own ways against the rules, Gellert.”
Mischief and a challenge. Grindelwald was overwhelmed with a sense of giddy excitement that he had to force himself not to reply. He didn’t know what nonsense would blurt out and he wasn’t up for embarrassing himself that day. But there was something so inviting – enticing – about the way Newt all but lit up when rejecting his offer that he wanted to know more.
“Right,” he finally murmured out.
They headed to the living room after that for their daily tea get-togethers. Their fingers brushed as Newt handed Gellert a teacup and they both acted like they didn’t feel the light tingle in their fingers.
But Gellert was beginning to figure out why he was there.
Gellert spent the next two weeks discussing things with the only person he fully trusted – Vinda Rosier. She had been delighted to help, amused by her boss.
Gellert had been making great progress with Newt. The magizoologist trusted him more. There was no diabolic scheme, and the other man knew that, because Gellert was unreasonably honest with him.
He couldn’t help it. He just couldn’t lie, physically or verbally. He wondered what things would have been like that if they had met earlier. Then again, Gellert wouldn’t have any damage to make up for.
A few months into the whole daily tea thing, and Newt realized he was friends with the Dark Lord. He enjoyed their conversations and was actually excited when the wards let him know the other had showed up. It was a more subtle (and pleasant) feeling compared to the alarm magic that was sent through his body when other people showed up.
Newt had accidently bought too many apples. He gave some to the creatures but still had lots left over. He wasn’t going to sit around and let them go bad. So, he looked up a recipe and made an apple cake.
It turned out surprisingly well.
“That smells delicious. And here I was thinking we should dine out,” Gellert said as he made his way into the kitchen just as Newt was slicing the cake.
Newt let out a laugh. “We can still ‘dine out’ if you want,” he said. There was just something about that expression paired with the blonde’s tone that made him feel giggly. He picked up two slices of cake. When he turned around, Grindelwald was much closer than he was expecting.
Gellert accepted a slice with a smile, quickly eating the fluffy sponge. He licked his lips, holding eye contact with Newt. He leaned in slightly, keeping track of every reaction the red head made. “Perhaps we should do something different today?”
Newt didn’t freeze or hold his breath. He took in every feature on the other man’s face and smiled. He could feel something in the space between them and his being beckoned him to close the distance, to touch the other man and see if those strange tingles would happen again. “What would that be?” Newt asked, voice a honey-like whisper. There was no hesitation or fear.
And Gellert saw that. He put his hands on the counter on either side of Newt, bringing them slightly closer together. But not enough to touch. Not yet. He felt like he needed to savour it before he drowned in it, because he knew he would get addicted to Newt.
He licked his lips and watched as Newt’s eyes followed the motion. So, he started to close the small distance between them, putting his hands on Newt’s waist. One of Newt’s hands came to rest on his neck.
And then, the wards went off. Followed by obnoxious knocking on the front door.
“Newt? Artemis, I know you’re in there!”
Newt’s head fell to Gellert’s shoulder with a loud sigh. “By Circe…” he mumbled as he started to pull away and towards the door. For a second, he forgot just who he was with before promptly springing into a small panic. He spun around only to find the other man with a calm expression.
“Go before he breaks your door. He won’t see me.” Gellert saw the hesitation. “Trust me, darling.”
Newt finally turned back to the door. With a deep breathe, he opened it. “Hi, Thee.”
The elder Scamander frowned. He pushed his way past, hanging his overcoat and scarf on the rack near the door. “I told you to take down these wards. What were you doing anyway?”
Newt closed the door and had to take a few breaths before replying. “I was in the kitchen.”
Theseus rolled his eyes. Whatever he had planned on saying left his mind as he saw a wolf snarling at him from the couch. It had an almost blonde coat and brown eyes that seemed angry about his mere existence. “Why?!”
“Why not?” Newt retorted as he saw the wolf. He sat down next to it, running his fingers through the fur to calm it down. Of course, it worked like a charm.
Theseus shook his head. “Your affinity for wild things is ridiculous. How you earn their trust and make a relationship with them is beyond me.”
“Maybe because you call them things or beasts. I know what you say to other people.”
“Merlin Newt! I think you’re getting a bit —”
“What did you want, Theseus?” Newt was done. He had finally reached his limit. How he hadn’t already reached it was a mystery – or maybe he was already beyond his limit.
Theseus recoiled at the harshness. “We’re planning on brining Grindelwald to Britain in the next few months. I figured I would tell you…”
“Thanks.”
Theseus sighed long and hard, bracing himself to ask his next question. He wasn’t used to having to deal with his brother like this. “Leta kicked me out again. Can I stay the night?”
“No.” Newt left no room for debate. Firstly, his brother had been rude for the past few months – more than usual. And secondly, he had things he wanted to do. “Sleep on your couch.”
Theseus didn’t know what to do. Sure, he had had his little brother mad at him, but this was different. He didn’t know how to handle it. So, he left. He showed himself out.
Newt ran a hand through his hair roughly as the door clicked shut. He got up before the wolf turned back to a man, heading straight for the kitchen to fetch tea and cake. He and Gellert had things to talk about and he had been putting it off for too long.
Newt didn’t see Gellert for a week and a half after that night.
When the blonde did show up, it was with flowers, an empty notebook, and a hopeful smile.
Newt opened the door to let him in with haste only to find a woman standing on his steps, waiting for something.
“Newt, this is Vinda Rosier.” Grindelwad introduced them. It was somewhat of a relief having the person he cared about and the one person from his organization that he trusted meet.
“Is this him?” Vinda asked Grindelwald. When she got a nod, she turned to Newt. Her expression was polite but there was no trace of a smile. “Tu es son âme sœur? Le zoologiste magique ?”
Newt raised a brow at Gellert and then at her. “Oui, et tu l’es?” He swore he saw Gellert swoon out the corner of his eye. He’d have to check that.
“Son commandant en second.”
“Vous devez être très habile,” Newt said with a small smile.
Vinda’s lips quirked upwards. “I like him.”
Newt opened the door slightly wider and stepped to the side. “Would you like to come in?”
“No. I was simply escorting him here. Very nice to meet you, my Lord.”
Newt watched her go. He was sure he was going to be seeing more of her. Which was fine. What did baffle him, however, was that she was talking to him when she said Lord.
Turning to face the man in his house, Newt made a face.
Gellert held out the flowers with an almost hesitant smile. “I’ll explain.”
Turns out, Grindelwald had been sulking quite a lot over the last week. He had felt terrible after their little fight and couldn’t stop thinking about it. After Rosier scolded him, he started thinking about what he could do to fix things. And thus came the genius idea of reorganizing his entire ‘greater good scheme’ with Newt.
Hence the notebook. He wanted to write everything down. Keep note of the changes, of the integration of creature rescue and protection, and the major point: not eradicating muggles.
By the time they had talked about everything concerning Gellert’s work, night had fallen. But that didn’t mean they were done.
In fact, Gellert stayed the night. They didn’t do anything except cuddle and talk as Gellert didn’t want to rush anything. Besides, the bed was extremely comfortable that he fell asleep near instantly.
When Newt awoke the next morning, it was to an empty bed. Stretching out, he thought nothing of it. Gellert was a busy man that had a revolution to enact; surely, he couldn’t waste away his mornings as well as afternoons.
However, he was proved wrong. He found Gellert in his kitchen bustling about, humming to himself. The blonde smiled when he noticed Newt was up.
“Good morning,” Gellert said warmly. He spun around holding two plates of egg and something else, cups and tea pot floating behind him. He set everything down on the small dining table, pulling out a seat for Newt.
The red head smiled brightly, settling down into the chair. The food smelt and looked amazing. When he bit into it, it was a fluffy heaven. The only other people he knew that cooked that well were Queenie and Jacob.
Grindelwald made small talk as they ate and refused to let Newt do the dishes, settling for drying what the red head washed. Everything was so utterly soft and domestic. Their hands brushed as they squeezed into the small counterspace around the sink. The space between them crackled and energy ran through their entire bodies. Newt quickly understood that it was Gellert’s magic mingling with his and that unfamiliar, yet excited rush washed over him.
“Hey,” Newt said softly. He dried his hands with a quick spell as he waited for the blonde to turn and face him. He cupped one of Gellert’s cheeks, not surprised when he all but nuzzled into the hand. “Thank you.” Newt’s voice was quiet, the smile on his face soft.
Gellert melted. He had no idea what he did to have the pleasure of meeting Newt, but he was glad he did. He lightly gripped Newt’s wrist, turning his face so he could place a kiss to the palm. “Anything for you, Schatz,” he said. It was the truth, after all. He was already completely gone, his entire heart Newt’s to claim. He would do anything for the other man – even sit in a cell if that was what he really wanted.
He didn’t know how else he could show Newt that he was his to have. He didn’t think he could hide it. Everyone would know the second they saw him looking at Newt.
A lovesick man.
Newt felt a shiver run up and down his spine because of the kiss on his palm. He raised his other hand to rest on Gellert’s shoulder, applying just a little pressure. It was enough to get the other man to come closer, hands resting on Newt’s hips. Exactly what he wanted.
Gellert’s head fell to rest on Newt’s shoulder as he murmured words onto the skin. Newt didn’t catch all of it, but he could make out a few words. “…devoted… forever… eternity… yours…”
Newt tilted his head down slightly, voice a whisper as he said, “I’m yours.” He giggled as feather-light kisses were trailed up his neck until Gellert was gazing into his eyes once more. It seemed that the little fight they had had the other week had made Gellert doubt that Newt would want something, even after patching things up the night prior. “Truly,” Newt added.
Newt couldn’t tell you who leant in first. He could tell you that it wasn’t what he was expecting.
The kiss was sweet and slow and full of emotions. There was a dull thrum of magic shifting between them, a combination of both their magic. It didn’t intensify the moment by making it hotter, messier, more sensual, but by amplifying their emotions. They pressed impossibly closer to each other and held on for dear life, like the other was a lifeline.
Maybe, in some way, they were.
Theseus had avoided his brothers house like the plague for a month. He was waiting for Newt to calm down fully and was working up nerves of steel just in case he hadn’t.
Only, when he visited, he found an empty house. Most of the furniture and everything impersonal were left in the house covered in a thin layer of dust. The kitchen was empty of cups and tea pots, all general appliances unplugged and sitting neatly on the counter. There were no clothes in the bedroom or books on shelves. And the basement, normally full of life, was stripped down bare. Even the expansion charms had been taken away, leaving only a small, tiny, cold, room.
And Theseus lost it.
There was no trace of his baby brother ever living there. And he didn’t know what to do about it.
He wasn’t allowed time to dwell on it as his workload was increased. He filed a notice about his brother but was forced to ignore it. Four months on and he was constantly having to push the thought of his baby brother to the back of his mind. He just didn’t have time with all his work and an escaped Dark Lord plotting evil in every shadowy nook and cranny.
Theseus had been sent to France in order to scope out an establishment that had been marked as suspicious. They lost the Auror that found it – they couldn’t blend in with the scene and was sniffed out quickly.
Theseus was sat on the skirts of the establishments largest room. He observed everyone as he nursed a glass of fire whiskey, feeling odd without his usual attire. The place had a fancy-dress code and was a place to make good connections for an array of businesses.
His eyes zoned in on a woman with dark hair, a purple dress, and a hair piece to match. There was something about her that put his senses on high alert.
She was at the bar, standing in front of the man she was talking to, obscuring Theseus’ view. Her posture screamed importance and elegance. She excused herself from the bar, heading towards the entrance of one of the smaller rooms.
Theseus started to watch her, but his eyes caught sight of a familiar head of copper curls that made his heart drop to his stomach. No. Please, no, he thought. But that did nothing for him.
Newt was sat in one of the tall bar stools, talking animatedly to the bartender who smiled along with him. They were clearly familiar with one another as the bartender immediately began to mix a drink for the red head. There was no exchange of money which made Theseus’ stomach lurch. Either his brother was getting by in unseemly ways, or he visited often to have himself a tab.
Neither option seemed better.
Downing the rest of his drink, Theseus slinked his way over to the bar. To his luck, the bartender went to serve another customer, and the seats on either side of his brother were left empty.
“Newt?” He asked hesitantly.
Newt spun to face him, almost spilling his drink with the speed he put it down.
“What are you doing here Newt? And where have you been for the past months?!” Theseus couldn’t help but raise his voice. There was no way he could be calm after accidently stumbling upon his own brother that disappeared with no warning nor a note.
Newt’s eyes flicked away for a moment. “Dealing with business is all,” he said, nonchalant.
Theseus’ left eye twitched. “Business doesn’t mean you leave the country for four months! Which, you are in big trouble for,” he exclaimed.
Newt told himself to not roll his eyes. Instead, he took a sip of his drink, lifting it in a cheer to the bartender. It was made well after all. “There was no way around it. You were never going to lift it.”
“They would have given you chances after the first year was up. Like finding that boy from the subway in New York," Theseus said. He was certain that the mention of that boy would get his brothers attention, but he acted like he hadn’t heard.
“Think of all the creatures I could lose in a year, let alone three!” Newt roared. He made a hand gesture when he noticed the bartender watching their conversation. She was gone the next second. “And I would not help the Ministry hunt down and hurt that boy. Credence doesn’t deserve that.”
“You know?” Theseus asked.
“Of course.”
Theseus stood there dumbfounded. What was he supposed to do. It seemed that no matter what he said, his brother would say something to battle it. Clearly, there was no way to simply coerce him to going home. “Listen, let’s just go home and —”
“Is everything alright here?” The woman in the purple dress asked, appearing out of thin air. She had a heavy French accent which made Theseus fill with dread.
All Newt had to say was, “He’s my brother.” and she backed off. Sighing, Newt gave his brother a sympathetic smile. “I’m not going back. Not yet.”
“You leave me no choice,” Theseus said as he reached into his jacket pocket, retrieving a pair of gold bangles.
Newt eyed the magic restraining cuffs wearily, leaning away. “That’s not a good idea,” he warned.
Yet Theseus wasn’t listening. He was going to take his baby brother home. He reached out with one hand towards Newt. Within a breath, he had someone physically restraining him, holding his arms behind his back. The bangles hit the floor with a clank. Three quarters of the establishment turned their wands on him, the lady wearing purple with hers pressed directly against his neck. Everything was silent, waiting for him to move or to be given directions.
“My Lord?” A random voice urged. The title made Theseus’ blood run cold. He would be in big trouble if Grindelwald had decided to make and appearance.
Newt let out another sigh, running a hand through his hair. “Vinda, the cuffs.”
Vinda – who looked lovely in purple – slowly removed her wand from the elder Scamander’s throat in favour of picking up the cuffs. She made a motion and the ones holding Theseus back brought his arms out in front of him. She worked silently and within seconds Theseus’ wrists donned those gold bangle-cuffs.
Defenseless. Confused. Hurt. Worried.
“Shall we take him with?” Vinda asked, turning to Newt now that the threat was neutralized. She was the only one to relax, the rest waiting for a cue.
Newt shook his head. “Sweet thought, but no one will be able to handle his whingeing,” he stated. A huff from his brother made his statement all the more believable. With a wave of his hand, everyone dispersed. Only the two holding Theseus and Vinda stayed with him, keeping watch over the situation. Before Theseus could start ranting to him, Newt spotted a woman and the bartender making their way up the bar to him. “Odette, Jacqueline,” he started before diving into fluent French.
He apologized for the disruption and promised that he would deal with the unwanted guest. It wasn’t the establishments’ fault that the elder Scamander got in.
Theseus watched the exchange silently. He accidentally made eye contact with Vinda, the woman glaring at him harshly. If looks could kill, she would have already stabbed him three hundred times.
“You work for Grindelwald,” Theseus said blandly. Vinda squinted her eyes in return, not wanting to converse with him. “Why are you with Newt?”
Vinda let out a small cackle. “I thought you were supposed to be smart, British boy,” she mocked. “I have two lords – what of it?”
Theseus’ mind must have overloaded from stress and worry that he couldn’t come up with an answer. Nor could he remember being dragged to a private room.
“Send him to America. Have one of the ministry acolytes pick him up. A few bruises here and there and they should hold him in MACUSA for a while. They’re not taking any risks right now.”
Theseus refused to believe Newt said that. That he so casually and quickly put together a plan to get Theseus out of the way. There was no way his brother would ever be in any form of relationship with the vile man Gellert Grindelwald. No way…
Almost a year after the first night Grindelwald had tea with Newt, a massive herd of wixen were scrambling into a tomb in Paris. Grindelwald had spent countless hours restructuring his agenda and enforcing it, successfully rerouting his plans. ‘The Greater Good’ now also called a revolution.
Newt sat in the front row of the coliseum like tomb. He had heard the speech hundreds of times, having helped the blonde practice. He blended in with the crowd enough to not be spotted as he smiled at Vinda who stood in the centre as well. He had Credence seated beside him, the boy holding his arm for comfort. He was still nervous around wixen but had latched onto Newt quite quickly.
They all knew there were Aurors in there with them. They had snuck in but had taken no other precautions of fitting in, so, they stuck out like a sore thumb. It was just a matter of waiting to find out who exactly had decided to crash their gathering.
“Go forth. Let everyone know that the next stage of the revolution is upon us!” With the speech over, all the followers started poofing away one by one.
All that was left was Grindelwald’s inner circle and the swarm of Aurors that thought they stood a chance.
Always one for the dramatics, Gellert made a ring of raging blue flames encircle the most inner circle of the tomb. He scowled as his eyes glazed over all the Aurors in the tomb. He recognized the eldest Scamander, that annoying Lestrange woman, and the sister of Newt’s dear American friend. He was amused when they all noticed his red head, even more so when they were told to hold fire.
Gellert watched as Newt escorted Credence to the platform, promising him that he was going to be okay. Then they had a whole conversation with Vinda before finally Credence left with her, leaving Newt to stand by Gellert against the Aurors.
Theseus, Leta, and Tina all started talking at once, their words almost incomprehensible.
Newt scowled; expression similar to Gellert’s.
“You all said it,” he said, voice loud, carrying throughout the entire tomb. “I have an affinity for dangerous creatures. I learn, get to know them, earn their trust. Develop a relationship. You all call him a monster, so, why is Gellert not the same?”
Everyone cringed at the use of the Dark Lords first name.
Theseus was the first to open his mouth, to complain. But Newt wasn’t having it.
“Just because you and Leta have issues doesn’t mean others need to have bad relationships,” Newt said hotly. He felt Gellert snake his arm around his waist, their magic mingling and instantly making him feel slightly better about the situation.
Theseus took a few frustrated steps forward before being stopped by the flames racing their way up the stairs towards him. They stopped just short, just enough to make him fearful of them. “Love has ups and downs. It can’t be fireworks all the time.”
“Oh contrary,” Gellert spoke up, a smirk on his lips. “Touching a soulmate always feels like fireworks.” Sure, he was stretching the truth a little, but it was for a good cause. Getting the elder Scamander to break again.
Theseus spluttered. “No. Those are fairytales.”
Multiple people around him muttered their opposing opinions, Leta included. She looked so pained by it, like the fact her and Theseus weren’t soulmates physically pained her.
An impatient Auror suddenly fired a blast of magic towards Newt and Gellert. The latter easily deflected it, instantly sending a spell of his own that had the man on the ground, writhing in pain.
As much as Newt enjoyed watching his partner, he had things to attend to at the castle. “Remember, Tina and Theseus are exceptions. Queenie will hate us if not.” Newt turned to his side slightly to find those mismatched eyes already on him. He pressed a quick peck to the blonde’s cheek before stepping away with a smile. “Au revoir!”
Any form of happiness or non-murderous intent left Gellert’s body. A sadistic smile overtook his features as he readjusted his grip on the elder wand. It was his time to play and let out a bit of steam.
All the Aurors gulped.

Previously on baby (you complete us):
“Alright then. Are you ready to go and meet your soulmates?” Songun claps his hands together before gesturing you towards the waiting car parked on the street. You stare at it warily, but you nod your head anyways, pushing and grasping for the feelings the boys have already made you feel, hoping they chase away any of the doubt floating through your head.
“Yes.”
You were right when you thought that the HYBE building might be bigger on the inside. It was like going inside Newt Scamander’s suitcase, a complete never-ending maze of rooms and corridors. You knew for sure that if you didn’t have someone to follow, you would become trapped within as a consequence of getting lost.
It had taken only five minutes for Songun to bring you to the building, using his security badge to gain entrance to the staff/artist underground parking structure. However, he had you use your badge, the one the boys sent over to your home, to gain access to the building. He wanted to be sure it worked, that way you would have no trouble with any of the other doors inside.
The second you got inside, you could feel your hands becoming clammy, knees starting to feel weak as Songun helped guide you to the front desk, wanting the woman at the desk to become familiar with you and know who you were.
“Hello, how can I help you.” The woman, her name tag reading Arin, smiled up at you, putting you a little at ease. However, you were still nervous to you quite literally handed her your pass. You couldn’t form any words and hoped your badge would suffice.
“Oh, um.” Arin shuffled out, looking at you with a nervous smile before looking down at the badge and seeing the words printed across the front. Then her smile turned into a different kind of nervous, knowing if she made one wrong move she could be fired.
“Ah, I see. Welcome Mrs. Kim. I hope that you find everything to your liking.” You blinked at being called Mrs. Kim again, wondering what that is about when your name is clearly printed on the badge.
You were also curious to why she seemed so nervous around you now. You weren’t famous or rich or anything of the nearest sort. She acted like you were about to take her job from her and blacklist her. Like you had power over her. You didn’t know if you liked it or not. It made you a little uncomfortable to be honest.
“Can you alert the boys that we are here please. I will lead her up right now.” Songun leaned over the desk, whispering in her ear for a couple of seconds before he pulls away. Arin nods and reaches for her phone. Before you could say anything, Songun hands you your badge back and leads you to the elevators.
“The badge works a bit like the hotel, you just place the badge over the security strip.” You nod your head at his words, storing the information in your head. You hold your badge up to the strip on the wall and the elevator opens within a second, making your eyes widen.
“Now, with your badge, you have full access to any of the rooms your soulmates do, including any practice rooms or studios.” Songun begins to describe the uses of your badge as he presses the floor to the 15th floor.
Ever since the HYBE Insight exhibit closed while the boys were serving their military enlistments, the public has been unable to access any of the floors of the HYBE building. You remember seeing some pictures from other fans of the Insight exhibit and thought it looked amazing.
You were even more amazed when the elevator doors opened to the 15th floor, a large portrait of the boys on the opposite wall. It was a picture of the first group photo the boys posted to Twitter when they all came back from serving their military enlistment. You remember how sad army was when the boys enlisted at the same time, but the soulmate laws required it so soul pain wasn’t experienced from distance or separation.
Your hands were now extremely clammy, a little shake to them as you tried to clench your fingers into a fist. You were beyond nervous, even a little scared to see them now that you were only a mere couple of feet from them. You stopped in your step, shoulders hunched as you wrapped your arms around yourself.
“Hey, are you okay?” Songun had stopped when he realized you weren’t next to him any longer. He turned to see you a couple of feet behind him. He moved back over to you, placing a hand on your shoulder.
“I don’t know if I can do this. What if they’ve changed their mind? What if they don’t want to see me anymore?” You began to ramble, your insecurities coming into play as they spun the thoughts moving in your head.
“Miss Y/n, I can’t tell you things are going to be easy or simple when you walk through those doors. But I can say that those boys, since finding out about you, have done nothing but worry that you won’t give them a chance. They are just as nervous and scared about this meeting as you are. I can’t tell you what to do, but I can say that you all need this. To see each other and get all of your feelings out on the floor.” Songun leaned down in front of you, so you could see his face as you looked at the floor. You listened to his words, the way he talked to you so gently that he reminded you of your own father.
“If you don’t want to do this, I can give them some excuse and take you back to your hotel room.” Songun ended with a shrug, making you laugh a little. You knew he was trying to make you feel better, feel at ease and you couldn’t thank him more for it. But he was right. You needed to see them, needed to end the ten plus years of mental torment you’ve endured. You needed to talk to them and move forward.
“Okay. I’m ready.” You nodded your head, in a way reassuring yourself that you were actually ready for this. If Songun could tell that you were talking to yourself more than to him, he never reacted. He just nodded at your words and held your shoulder the rest of the walk, giving you the reassurance you needed to walk through the door.
Songun knocked on the door, not even a second later moving out of the way as the door opened to Sejin, who you know as one of the main managers for the boys. He smiled as he noticed you, making a welcome gesture as he opened the door wider for you to enter.
“The boys are waiting for you inside, Y/n.” His smile while he meant to be nice and welcoming, did little to help you feel comfortable. You turned your head to look back at Songun, only to see him nodding his head at you again, telling you that everything would be okay.
You turned back around, clenching your fists again before nodding and walking into the room. You tried to steel yourself, to tell yourself that you were okay. You clenched your fists so hard you could feel one of your fingers pop and shift. You opened your fist and began to try and pop your finger back in when you noticed the boys, all moving to stand from where they were seated on the couches.
You paused in your step, seeing your soulmates up close and personal was different than seeing them on your screen or texting them on your phone. Seeing them a couple of feet in front of you made this all too real. You could vaguely hear Jungkook say “she’s finally here.”
It was awkward for a couple of long seconds, you just staring at them as they did the same to you, as if taking you in. You were just making sure they were real, that this was really happening.
“Uhm, hi.” You waved your hand a little awkwardly, your mind screaming at you to break the tension in the room. You took a step backward, unsure if you should leave or not, which seems to knock everyone out of their trance.
“Hello. Please, come sit.” Namjoon being the ever diplomatic and caring leader is the first to speak, his smile bright and dimpled just like you had seen many times on camera. You always loved his smile; how warm it was and how it seemed to calm everyone down.
Namjoon had his hand out, whether it was a gesture for you to sit, or a hopeful attempt to bring you closer, you would never know. You nodded your head at his words and moved to the couch opposite of where they were sitting.
Your body was tense, uncomfortable in a new room and a new situation. You felt unprepared, like the time you were in the principal’s office and you were waiting under your principal’s watchful eye as you waited for your parents to arrive. You remember you were going to be suspended for hitting someone who had tried to make fun of your elder sister. She was in a car accident when you were ten and had lost half of her leg, making her wear a prosthetic leg that went up to her knee.
You had your hands clenched together, resting on top of your thighs as your back was rim rod straight. It wasn’t comfortable, but you were too nervous to care. However, you did lean slightly to the right, your hip still giving you some discomfort.
“We are sorry again that you’ve had to uproot your life to come here, but we are grateful for the chance you are giving us.” Namjoon starts the conversation off, right as Sejin leaves the room. Your eyes darted to the door and back, now even more nervous and intimidated by what’s going on.
“We know that the circumstances are not ideal,” You sigh at that, making Namjoon pause in his obviously prepared speech. “but we regret the time not knowing you.”
You cut him off this time, not needing some rehearsed words intended to calm you down. You tried to understand, tried to tell yourself that he was just nervous and needed his script to feel reassured but you couldn’t help but feel the disconnection, like you were just a simple worker and not his soulmate.
“Please, Namjoon. I would really appreciate it if you could actually talk to me instead of giving me your obviously prepared speech. I’m not some employee or businessman that you need to be prepared for.” You take a deep breathe, feeling that you were getting worked up again.
Jin and Jimin glance at each other while Yoongi smirks, hiding behind his ever-growing locks. He hates having to cut his hair short for his military service, and he hated having to be semi-separated from his soulmates, doing service work instead of enlistment. However, he liked how brave you were being in front of his younger mate, that you weren’t afraid to put him in his place despite the obvious power struggle in the room.
“I am not fragile despite my disability. I can handle having uncomfortable conversations. I was fully prepared to give up on my soulmark. I thought that maybe, my bracelet had to be defective. I mean, why in the world would fate give someone like me seven soulmates?” You scoffed at your own words, the idea that fate had that you still questioned, even now.
“Yes, I waited ten years for you, hoping and praying to fate that you would get your bracelets and see my messages. See that I wanted you. And I can’t blame you. I can’t blame you for not getting one. I can’t blame you for not knowing you were missing a soulmate.” You had noticed that some of the men were crying at this point, feeling the emotions that you put into your words. Jimin and Jungkook especially were sniffling, eyes red as tears marked their cheeks.
“At one point, I even thought that you had all already found each other and didn’t need me. And it seems I was right. You have been together for so long; I would only be getting in the way. I would be a burden you felt you needed to keep around in order to keep me from dying of soul rejection.” You didn’t mean to blurt that out, but your mouth was moving quicker than your brain and your feelings long buried were getting in the way.
“Don’t say that!” Jungkook yelled out, startling everyone in the room and making you jump in shock. You weren’t expecting his outburst, almost forgetting that you weren’t just talking to yourself.
“You are not a burden. You will never be a burden. We spent so long trying to find you, trying anything we could to find a post or picture anywhere that would lead us to you when you took your bracelet off.” Jungkook was now standing, moving to kneel in front of you.
“We read every single message, cried so many times in guilt that we weren’t there for you, for anything. We did everything we could think of to find you, even going as far as having our managers make that twitter post.” Jungkook was holding his fist to his lip, biting into his index finger. Namjoon took over from there.
“I apologize, you are right. I shouldn’t be talking from my mind, but my heart.” He even stood up, moving to sit next to you, but not before asking permission, gesturing to the spot next to you and only sitting down once you nodded your head.
“Jungkook is right. Once we were notified of your presence with the soul bracelet, we were shocked. How could we have not noticed the small empty feeling within our bond? How could we have gone so many years together, happy, and not notice you were across the world, suffering and alone and believing that we didn’t want you. We were so mad at ourselves.” Namjoon slowly reached a hand out, covering your clenched fists with his palm and squeezing gently, hoping to reassure you.
“We,” Namjoon gestured to the others, “want you as our soulmate like fate intended. There is a reason why we have connected soul marks, why our souls are linked.” His eyes are locked on your own, even as you turn your head to look at his hand on your lap. He can only imagine the words circling through your mind, the emotions flowing through your veins.
The boys had prepared for this. They all knew the trauma their lack of bracelet had caused you. They knew you would be hesitant to jump into their arms and accept them. He could tell from where he was sitting that their plan was slowly crumbling though now that you were in their presence.
The plan was to let Namjoon do all the talking, knowing you didn’t speak any Korean. But you saw right through them, causing his own mind to scramble with how to talk to you without using the prepared speech he wrote with the boys. He was so used to having everything prepared, having a backup plan for a backup plan all ready to go at a moment’s notice.
“We accepted you the moment we knew you existed. You are ours.” Yoongi spoke up from his spot next to Jin and Taehyung, eyes narrowed as if daring you to contradict his statement.
He was fully ready for you to just be theirs. Yoongi and Taehyung had spent so much time on your socials, watching the tiktoks you and your family had posted on your account. Even right before you came in, Yoongi was on your Instagram, trying to memorize the smile on your face, hoping he could bring you the same joy and happiness.
Yoongi’s statement sent shivers down your spine, the amount of possessiveness you could feel rolling off his tongue had your brain short-circuiting. You hadn’t felt something like this before. It was like an amplification of the feelings you had when you talked to them at the airport or even on the plan after your hip popped out.
You felt accepted and wanted.
Looking at Yoongi, your eyes sweeping over to Jimin and the hope he had written all over his face. Jin with the slight pout to his lips as he looks at your clenched fists, the slight bruising at the bottom of your thumb peeking out through Namjoon’s grip. Taehyung and Hoseok who had their hands clenched together and was watching your every movement, a slight twinkle to Taehyung’s eye as he glanced between you and Jungkook.
You would always feel like you were a burden, like you didn’t belong, but maybe those feelings could disappear over time. Maybe, fate was right when she connected your soul with these men. Maybe you should have never lost your own faith in fate. But ten years is a long time to feel unwanted.
“I-uh, I can’t promise anything, I have a lot to work through, but I…” You cut yourself off, trying to figure out the words you needed to say. Your mothers voice rings through your head, reminding you that fate always has a plan for you. That things happen for a reason.
“I want this. I—I’ve always wanted this…to have my soulmates and bond with them. Even after all this time I still hoped that I would find you.” You try to fight through the emotions you were experiencing, years of fear and hope battling in your throat. Jungkook can see you nervously tapping your fingers against your thigh and without thought moved forward to hold your hand in his, sending you a soft, reassuring smile.
“I guess I am just afraid.” You let out a nervous laugh, squeezing Jungkook’s hand in your own grasp. You look away from them, eyes focusing on the wall as you fight to blink away the onslaught of tears.
“Why?” The voice rings out, your mind recognizing it as Taehyung before you turn your head back, looking him right in the eyes.
“Because you have been together for so long. I can only imagine I would be interrupting the flow of your bond and relationship. I would be a burden you tiptoe around, trying not to make me uncomfortable as you return back into the comfortability and stability of your already existing bond. I’m afraid I won’t fit in with you, that my disability will hold you and me back. I cannot and will not put my needs to the side. I’ve had people before who were supposed to love me push me aside because I didn’t fit the mold they had for me in their head.” Your eyes narrowed, your heart beating so fast you could feel it in your throat.
“If you accept me, you accept all of me. I won’t be the hidden soulmate who isn’t allowed to leave the house because she isn’t normal or perfect.” At this point, you are letting it all out, all of your frustrations and fears. If these men were going to accept you and build a life with you in it, you weren’t going to hold anything back. You needed them to know what they were getting into.
You watched their eyes widen at your words, like they couldn’t believe what you were saying. You then watched their expressions turn to anger. Yoongi turned to Jin in anger and began speaking in Korean, too quickly for you to make out any familiar sounds or words. At one point you flinched, seeing Yoongi begin to stand up.
“He is not angry with you or at you. He is upset that you feel that way and have experienced such things without him being there to help you.” Namjoon’s whispered words have you turning back to Yoongi, reassessing the thoughts running through your head.
Namjoon knew you thought Yoongi was upset with your words, mad at you for your assumption of them, but you were wrong. Yoongi wanted to hurt the people who hurt you, his protective instincts strong when it came to his bonded. Well, Yoongi actually had some few choice words, but none that he felt comfortable repeating.
He could tell that his words had done something, made you feel some way because you looked back at him with wide eyes, reminding him of Jungkook when he was younger, unsure of the world ahead of him. His heart clenched with the way you looked to him for reassurance, and he knew from then that he would never let you go, would never be absent or unable to be there for you. He would do what he could within his power to protect you.
“He…he wants to protect me?” You asked Namjoon, hands tightly clenched with Jungkook’s as you looked away from Yoongi and up to Namjoon. You couldn’t help but to feel small, hoping that what Namjoon was saying was true. You had too many emotions crashing against your skull and you needed his reassurance.
Yes, you had your family at your side, and some amazing friends who you loved and who loved you, but you had always felt like a burden, no matter what you did. This led to many feelings of unworthiness and feeling incompetent. It didn’t help the words you would hear, murmured or whispered in passing, even by some family members at birthday parties. You saw the looks you would get.
You had never felt protected before, the feeling unknown.
It was something you always wished for. The security of being protected by someone who loved you was a powerful thing.
“We all do.” A quiet voice came from your right, Jimin having moved closer while you looked at Namjoon. He had wanted to hold you since the minute he had heard your voice over the phone that very first day. He could feel your heartache and your pain through your voice, he remembered he broke into tears at the sound of you so unsure.
Jimin sat on the couch next to you, turned to face you as he brought his hand up to brush your hair softly behind your ear so he could see you. You noticed Taehyung sitting behind him, a hand on Jimin’s lower back and an even softer look sent your way.
“You’ll never have to hurt again, with us. Just…give us a chance.” Jimin pleads with you, his voice soft. He thought you weren’t going to accept them; thought you were going to reject them. He knew pain was nothing new to you. He didn’t know if you would rather accept that or accept them.
You couldn’t help but to burst into tears at the sight before you. While Jimin was talking the rest of the boys on the other couch had moved closer, as close as they could get to you with Jungkook sitting at your feet, hands still connected to your own, rubbing the small bruise at the base of your thumb.
Jimin didn’t falter, he just moved his hand that was cupping your cheek to brush his thumb across your cheeks, wiping away your tears with such a softness you hadn’t felt since your mom had passed. His movements had you nodding your head, slowly at first, almost like a subtle flinch but then you were nodding your head up and down, his hand moving to follow your movements.
Once Jimin recognizes your nodding, once he realizes what it means, the biggest smile breaks out on his lips, eyes closing in what you recognize as his signature eye smile. He starts jumping in his seat and wraps his arms around you, almost falling into you as he does so, your weight now being supported by Namjoon behind you.
Jin smirks as he looks over you and Jimin to catch eyes with Namjoon, glad that you were giving them a chance, just like he predicted. Jin knew you would give them a chance, and he was preparing to woo you like never before, even though in Jin’s eyes, you would have never said no to begin with.
Your sniffle brings the boys out of their excited reverie, everyone looking at you and making you become embarrassed as you wipe your nose with your sleeve, no tissue in sight for you to reach for. You had stopped crying in between Jimin and Namjoon, feeling the bond activate at your words and feelings of acceptance.
You knew there was no going back at this point.
You knew the bond would take hold and cement the bond in your own soul.
“So, what happens now?” Your words had your soulmates scrambling, everyone talking at once as Namjoon remains silent, trying to remember what his own thoughts were as he held you in his arms.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @frankenjoly omg thanks i just got home from school i need this
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
I have 57 rn and i still can't believe i have that many fics,, it used to be more than that but i had deleted some of my older fics for an old fandom i was once in
2. What's your total ao3 word count?
127,635 words (and counting hopefully once i get out of this slump)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Right now i mainly write for BSD. I used to write for the fantastic beasts and where to find them fandom from 2018 to the first half of 2020 but i stopped cuz i left (you can still find my fics for that fandom in my ao3 and wattpad profiles)
4. Top five fics by kudos
Bored (BSD) - a little domestic fluff fic feat. Ranpo being perpetually bored while Akiko is busy working
A Night at the Scamander Household (Fantastic Beasts) - wherein the Newt and Tina are awoken in the middle of the night by their youngest son who's unable to sleep
Tattoos and Soulmates (Fantastic Beasts) - newtina soulmate au where you have matching tattoos with your soulmate
Lay All Your Love on Me (or not) (Fantastic Beasts) - watch as Achilles Tolliver tries to get Tina Goldstein's attention and fails (spoiler: she's already taken)
Books, Rain, and You (Fantastic Beasts) - in an effort to get out of the heavy rain, Tina finds herself in a cozy library with an adorable librarian. they bond over books and then some
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, but not always. I like interacting with those who read my fics and seeings their comments just motivates me to write more
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
i mostly write fluff but i have tried my hand at writing angst although i'm not sure if those fics count as that cuz i feel like i don't have the skill to properly convey the angsty feelings for it to be considered angst
but if i had to choose out of all the attempts i made at angst, i'd say If "Happy Ever After" Did Exist, I Would Still Be Holding You Like This and Con Flores (Te Llevaste Mi Tristeza Con Colores)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
again, i write fluff so basically all of them have happy endings or are just generally happy overall. i can't really pick one of them dasjkgkas
8. Do you get hate on fic?
i hope not... that's literally one of my writing anxieties, especially when i write a fic involving an oc i have for a fandom (like Edogawa Hotaru, for example)
9. Do you write smut?
i think i tried writing once although it wasn't a fanfic. i cringed hard and never tried writing smut for a fic again. but if you guys saw my character ai chats involving my ships-
10. Do you write crossovers?
no
11. Have you ever stolen a fic?
i hope not. i always try to make sure all my works are original, but if i do take inspo from another fic i always make sure to ask
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes! i think i had two or three fics translated some time ago by other people online (with my permission ofc) and that honestly makes me feel so proud??
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
no and i feel too shy to do so😭
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
ranposano, obviously (and a genshin rarepair i have that i am a little too afraid to say cuz genshin fandom)
15. What's a WIP you want to finush but probably won't?
so. many. WIPS. please. send me motivation.
16. What are your writing strengths?
never-ending inspiration i guess. i once got a "this is the fic i/we never knew i/we needed" comment on a ranposano fic that i wrote because i had my period and that just made me realize that wow i pull my ideas from literally everywhere
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
procrastination, my inconsistent english grammar, and constantly setting standards that are a little too high whenever i write something
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
i'm fine with it ig? englsih is my second language and i don't usually write full dialogues in another language. i usually only include words in another language but never full dialogues
19. First fandom you wrote for?
believe it or not, i used to write fanfics for the rise of the brave tangled frozen dragons fandom, mainly jelsa (but i never published any of them my 10 year old self was too scared)
20. Favorite fic you've written?
omg Lost and Found my beloved ranposano fic daksgdkas that fic is what i like to consider as the peak of my skills as fic writer, like i will never be able to write something like that ever again
(A Package and Glass Marble come close tho)

Doodle
Summary: Newt/Reader; Soulmate AU,whatever you write/draw on your skin appears on your soulmates
All throughout school you’d catch doodles and scribbles on your arms; occasionally the faint sketch of some creature but mostly small flowers or magically drawn birds. You’d never figured out who it was during your time at hogwarts; but when you started working in the ministry; the drawings became a comfort, you often wonder if they play a role in your decision to work in the Magical Creature’s department. You don’t usually respond to the drawings, they either appear in places you can’t easily reach due to your clothes covering them; or you’re working on gathering information and trying your best to do research about the creatures everyone wants to destroy. You hate how wrong that feels and you take more comfort in the drawings of the creatures as if they’re being studied, not hunted; soon lists were added; odd ingredients or items. It was a silly habit but you found yourself buying the plants that were most commonly listed as well as keeping a small hoard of galleons for whatever kept stealing your soulmates. You’d never actually talked to him; but one day after he angrily scraped three underlines under ‘liquid seaweed’ did you draw a small frowning niffler next to it; you added a speech bubble and the words “that stung” colouring in the tears. The reaction was immediate; swirls and flowers and branches suddenly heated your skin, magically drawn on. It sunk in your soulmate never realized you’d returned the doodles; just that they had forgotten how much they’d drawn on themselves.
I’ve never thought I would have a soulmate all my time at ----------- I couldn’t ever remember seeing drawings. You frown and the gap in the sentence; you knew locations and names wouldn’t go through. You draw the niffler again; sitting on your wrist and adding a speech bubble filled with magic hearts I always thought you were too busy with whatever you do.
Research. He responds and draws a heart around the niffler.
You like nifflers? You ask and he draws another bunch of hearts before adding. They're cute but they steal everything shiny he adds a frown and you cross over it grinning as you draw yet another niffler holding a heart. They just want love is all; and all your shinies. You look up jumping when you see Thesues Scamander standing in front of your desk looking unimpressed.
“Sorry sir; what can I do for you?”
“I need the report from the incident with the grindylows from the other day. Murklow said that it could be a cover for a Grindelwald meeting.” You nod pulling your sleeve down and waving your wand to pull the report he’s asking for.
“Here you are sir; anything else?”
“Were you talking to your soulmate?” You flush a little at his question, nodding.
“Well if he likes nifflers as much as you; ask about other creatures?”
“Oh that’s a good idea sir!” You grin and he smiles softly.
“Call me Theseus, Y/N.” You nod, waiting until Theseus leaves and then scribbling on your arm a question that your soulmate leaves blank for two hours. Do you like magical creatures or are you like most others? You’re not sure what you’re expecting but you receive a paragraph along your thigh with only a few of the words blanked. You read through all of it twice grinning at how passionately he talks about how misunderstood most creatures are. You draw a niffler offering a heart out and then ask Have you read Fantastic beasts and where to find them? It just came out; I love it. You grin to yourself when a string of hearts answers your question. What do you think of the author? You chew your lip jumping when your boss calls you for a new case. You scowl at the information; most of the department still believed in the older information of most of the magical creatures. The new case was investigating a group of knarls that were nearing a muggle area. You spend the rest of the day gathering as much information about the area the knarls were last seen and what you’ll need to capture and relocate them.
Sorry work got busy; I love the author, he seems so kind and wonderful. You offer frowning when there’s no reply.
“Y/N!” You turn when you hear your name called and are surprised to see Thesues walking over.
“Yes?”
“You’re working on that Knarl case right?” You nod letting Theseus update you on the whereabouts, apparently the knarls were only in the muggle area because there’s a Jarvey that took over there home.
“A Jarvey.” You scowl sighing.
“Thank you Theseus; this makes dealing with it a lot easier; at least I can sort of talk to the Jarvey.” You roll your eyes and he grins.
“You off home now?”
“No; I’m off to go see if I can find the Jarvey; or the Knarls.”
“You think you can talk to them?”
“The Knarls yes; the Jarvey, hopefully.” You wave goodbye to Theseus as you take the floo network home.
Do you know about Jarvey’s? I have to deal with one soon. You wait for a reply as you pack a bag; drumming your fingers as you get no response before you apparate to the area that the report said they were in.
To catch one? You nod before writing yes. All you get is a half sketch half doodle of a niffler, with a heart and it making what you assume is a thumbs up gesture.
You groan waking up after having spent most of the night trying to convince the Jarvey to leave the Knarls alone and find a better home. You’d been called a bitch and vermin about fifty times before you’d gone to speak to the Knarls; the Jarvey had been offended enough to counter offer your idea of leaving the Knarls home to find a new one for himself. That was after he’d angrily scraped at your arm; almost tearing through the doodled nifflers.
You managed to agree to rehome the Knarls away from the muggle area; and even offered the Jarvey some moles you’d managed to gather before you’d gone to meet them. You’d gotten as close to a thank you as possible from a Jarvey and he even offered to come with you to the ministry to explain what you’d agreed with. You’d assured him while you appreciated it; you didn’t like the idea of him being captured. He’d then drawn a crude sort of star on your palm with a black marker he’d found and you’d returned to the ministry with the Knarls in a cat carrier with blankets charmed to stay warm.
“Good morning Y/N.” Thesues grins and you nod yawning.
“Late night?”
“Yeah; but I got the knarls.”
“You got the knarls?” He looks down to the case and you grin.
“And the jarvey?”
“He’s enjoying his new home and the snack I brought him.”
“You fed the Jarvey? And talked to it?”
“I mean I don’t know how much of a conversation it was; I was explaining everything going on and he kept calling me a bitch.” You shrug setting the knarls; which continue to sleep under your desk as you start to work up the report.
Did it go okay? You grin at your soulmates question, drawing a crude doodle of the knarls in the carrier. We all survived. Minus my pride. You don’t look at the response for a while finishing up the report and waiting till lunch to find your supervisor to ask about relocating the knarls.
The jarvey decided to knock me down a peg. Beside the explanation you doodle the jarvey with an angry face and a little speech bubble with the words bitch and vermin in it. The only response is a frowning face.
Since you know so much about magical creatures; where's the safest place for me to bring the knarls? You chew your lip hoping that wherever he describes won’t be blanked out. Suitcase. Or a large field with plenty of hedgerows; anywhere a hedgehog would live. You nod drawing a circle and question marks around the word suitcase.
“Y/N where are you off to?” You hold up the case, the knarls chattering at you and you frown.
“I’m sorry guys; I just have to have a quick chat and we can get you a nice big field and some new worm hunting grounds.” They chitter again and you sigh.
“I’m heading to drop the knarls off to a much better home.”
“Your soulmate give you advice?” Theseus grins as he walks up spotting the carrier in your hands.
“Apparently I need a suitcase.” You laugh showing Thesues the writing on your arm. He nods glancing from the knarls to your arm and back to you. He doesn’t say anymore simply turning away back towards his department. You shrug and leave the ministry building to apparate to one of your favourite spots in the countryside. You glance to the abandoned cottage before nuding the door open and opening the carrier to let the knarls wander out.
“There we are. Is this an okay spot?” You hum as the knarls seem to vanish. You make a note to check back on them in the coming weeks. You know you still have time for lunch but you decide to return back to the ministry to avoid rushing and being able to have a cup of tea in peace. You’re sitting in the lobby people watching when you can see a figure stagger out from the floo network and almost tackle Theseus to the ground. You try not to laugh when Theseus grins hugging the figure as the figure seems to hang limply in his grip for a moment before his head swivels looking around.
“It’s lunch right now.” You can hear Thesues’ voice and you note how the man next to him wilts. You try your best not to laugh at them returning to your tea before you can feel eyes on you. You don’t say anything feeling the faint scratch of a pen on your arm. Turn around and wave. You roll your eyes turning and waving. The man next to Theseus stares at the ground while Thesues moves towards you.
“Y/N. How’s lunch going?”
“You lost your friend.”
“My brother actually, Newt; come over here and say hello to Y/N she works in the department for magical creatures.”
“Oh; hello.” He walks slowly over extending his hand and you catch a familiar black star shape on his palm.
“Your soulmate?” You question and he nods.
“No clue what they mean by the star; but it’s nice to finally talk to them.” He grins slightly and you laugh a little nodding.
“What about you?” Thesues comments and you look down to your palm at the star shape.
“The Jarvey I talked to earlier. He decided it was a parting gift.” Newt steps closer to examine it; his fingers brushing over your palm; barely touching it.
“Is this the same jarvey that called you a bitch and vermin? I might have to have a word with him.” He mumbles and you try your best not to give anything away with how Newt keeps side glancing to Theseus.
“I was wondering; since you’re the expert here; I dropped the knarls off to a new area; and I don’t know if it’s a proper place for them..” You trail off and can see Thesues roll his eyes.
“You two enjoy your talk about knarls; remember lunch is over in twenty minutes.” Thesues reminds you and you nod waiting as he leaves before you look up at Newt.
“Hey.” He grins watching as you press your palms together to match the stars up.
“Your drawings are much better than my doodles of a niffler.”
“I thought they were very true to reality.”
“Is this why you mentioned a suitcase.”
“Yes; did it help you catch on?” he tilts his head and you gasp. He grins as Pickett pokes his head out.
“Not now Pickett.” Your hand drifts upwards and Pickett’s hands reach towards you and climbs on your hand.
“Oh. Hello there sweetheart. Aren’t you just the most impressive bowtruckle I’ve ever seen.” Pickett taps his little hands on your figner nails and Newt sighs.
“His ego is big enough; please don’t lie to him.”
“It’s the truth. No harm in reminding him. He really is incredible though. His leaves are a beautiful green shade.” You grin and Pickett taps faster on your hand before scurrying towards your shoulder as Newt reaches for him.
“Pickett no!” he scolds trying to grasp at the bowtruckle as he hunkers down  on your shoulder.
“Newt it’s alright; I can show you where the knarls are anyways.” He looks towards the clock and you catch your supervisor's attention.
“Yes Y/N.”
“I dropped the knarls off sir; is there anything else?”
“Oh good; we have two new cases one involving; what else were you going to ask.”
“Well sir; I’ve just found my soulmate and I was hoping-“
“Go home! Talk with each other. For Merlins sake Y/N; you have enough vacation days regardless of  the soul week you get to spend off. Go on.” He nods and you grin.
“Thank you.” You grin and Newt waves to him, you laugh a little when he falters and glaces to both of you.
“Theseus is going to kill me.” He grins and you quirk an eyebrow.
“Really?”
“Yes; I was just talking about how I finally realized I do have a soulmate and he all but demanded to see what we’d written. He lost it when he saw the writing; I guess I know why. He recognised your handwriting.” You smile at him nodding to the Floo network.
“Here; hold my hand.” Your hand twines with his as you step into the floo-place and close your eyes speaking the area of the countryside.
“Here we are.” You grin and Newt looks around.
“This seems perfect for knarls.” You grin back at him.
“Now may I show you the first option?”
“The suitcase?” You look confused and he grins holding his hand out. You close your eyes; you’re not sure why but Newt grins.
“Okay open!” you spot his face; halfway obscured by a young Occamy curling around his neck.

There are many people in the room when it happens so Newt is not entirely sure who is it at first; it's the first time he sees colors and it's absolutely wonderful. He starts grinning while looking around until Tina scolds him for not paying attention to Madam President.
He's met Seraphina before so he's sure it's not her or Mr. Graves... Well, he didn't actually meet the Director the last time, it was Grindelwald actually.
Does that count? Newt is not sure, although it probably isn't him because they're completely opposite of each other and–
"Can I talk to you in my office, Mr. Scamander?"
It almost startles Newt, to see Mr. Graves so close to him suddenly; he doesn't look mad but hopeful and the magizoologist is not sure what to think of it.
"Sure," Newt's nervous and a little bit confused at first, but as soon as he agrees, Graves takes his hand and Newt feels a shiver running down his spine, but it's a good sensation.
As soon as they're both inside and Graves closes the door, he takes the magizoologist hands in his and looks at him into the eye. Newt has never felt this happy before.
"You're my soulmate, Newt," Graves mumbles, quickly using his first name, although it makes sense considering they're soulmates.
"I... There was many people in there–"
"I have met all of them before and never saw a glimpse of color once, until I met you," Percival says quickly, smiling at him. "I can feel it, can't you?"
After leaning a little bit closer, Newt nods, he grins back as their foreheads touch.
"I know this can be... scary at first and I'm not saying we should marry right away, but at least we can start dating."
"I think it's an excellent idea," Newt agrees, heart beating inside his chest.
"May I kiss you?"
"You may..."
The kiss is wonderful, nothing like Newt have experienced before and he absolutely loves how his body reacts to it.
***
The second thing Newt does is to take Percival inside his case so they both can see all the different and beautiful colors of Newt's creatures, then they have dinner while Percival keeps telling the magizoologist he needs a permit for all of his babies.
They know it's not going to be easy, they're different, they live in opposite sides of the world, but they both know it's going to work somehow, they can feel it.

Feel The Pull Of You (Newt Scamander x Reader)
Warnings: none (cabbage if you’re James Acaster)
Requested: Yes @imapartofwaytoomanyfandoms24 asked for ‘a soulmates AU where the reader loves magical creatures and they can only see colour when they touch their soulmate and she runs into him looking for her demiguise. She’s in shock and so is Newt and then she sees her demiguise runs up to it and grabs it and walks back to him and they both stare at each other’ - thank you honey! I hope you like it- I’ve had a couple soulmate ideas kicking around my head for a bit but I hadn’t considered the colour one so thank you!
Summary: You’ve seen in only shades of grey your entire life knowing that meant you had a soulmate out there somewhere. Your demiguise has been acting up lately and leads you on a wild goose chase through the streets of London where you literally fall into the arms of a handsome stranger.
A/N: I had to stop here or else I was just gonna keep writing for lord knows how long because IMAGINE what a trip it would be to see all the creatures with your whole new colour palette.
Words: 1,925
Title song: The Pull Of You- The National - just rewatched the IAETF film last night and balled my eyes out. What was it you always said? We’re connected by a thread. If we’re ever far apart I’ll still feel the pull of you.

Tumblr media
It had been exactly 3 months since Newt had finally released his book ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’ and exactly 3 weeks since he’d received the most unexpected letter in the mail from a complete stranger.
There had been plenty of children and a few keen creature lovers that had approached him at his book signings. They were always eager to hear more about his adventures and his case and he’d received a few fan-mail letters, again mostly from children drawing their favourite creatures. He loved those ones especially because he hoped it meant he might have inspired another generation of children to follow in his footsteps.
But there was one letter Newt hadn’t put down since he’d received it 3 weeks ago. He kept it in his pocket and often found himself re-reading it over and over again. There was just something about the elegant scrawl that had completely captivated him from the moment he opened it.
And here he was again, standing beside a cafe in the middle of a bustling street in London, pulling the well worn letter from his pocket and tracing his fingertips along the lettering. He had had every intention of writing back to the stranger but a mishap involving a hungry Graphorn had meant he’d lost the envelope with the sender return address much to his dismay.
‘Dear Mr.  Scamander,
I am writing to thank you for your incredible book and the remarkable work you have done in magical creature preservation. I must admit I found myself quite moved by your passion. I am an aspiring Magizoologist myself and I can assure you there is still an entire world of magnificent creatures out there to discover!
I wonder if perhaps you were looking for an assistant to help you with your creatures? I’m sure, a capable set of hands could be of great service to you with your ever expanding case and I am confident I could be of help.
Perhaps we could meet for tea some time and I can show you some of my dearest creatures?
I eagerly await your response.
Yours respectfully,  Y/N L/N ‘
As he stood on the street corner reading the letter for what must have been the hundredth time he truly mourned the fact that he had no way to contact the sender because there was just something about it that pulled at his heart strings like he’d never felt before. It almost felt like a puzzle. One that he desperately needed to solve.
The letter had kept him up most nights, wondering about things that would never usually cross his mind. He wondered what the sender looked like? And more peculiarly he wondered what the colour of her eyes were. Or perhaps the colour of her hair?
To most people these questions would be normal to ponder and that was because most people had some idea or reference for colour. But not Newt. For Newt, these questions were completely nonsensical because he only saw in shades of grey.
His colour blindness had never bothered him before because he knew it meant he was one of the lucky ones that had a soulmate. A twin flame that he was destined to be with. He was generally content, and patient biding the time because he knew one day he would meet his other half. But ever since he’d received that letter he had found himself feeling restless and frustrated, walking the length of the city and mourning the entire spectrum of colour he was missing out on.
It bothered him now to realise that he had no idea what colour the letter even was. What colour was the ink you’d used? Logically he knew it was black ink on a presumably neutral toned paper but what did that even look like?
He was so preoccupied in his musings that he barely registered the sensation of his case rattling in his hold as one of his creatures was unsettled because he was suddenly stood face to face with a Demiguise. A Demiguise that certainly wasn’t his Dougal.
“Bunsen! BUNSEN! Oh my stars Bunsen I swear if you don’t get back here right now you’ll be eating cabbage for the rest of the week. CABBAGE!”
You were madly dashing through the London crowds in pursuit of your rogue Demiguise, completely uncaring of the bewildered looks you were receiving from the other locals.
Bunsen had been acting out of sorts for several weeks now, pacing back and forth and frequently leading you on wild chases much like the one you were on now. This time though he really wasn’t relenting and you were just thankful no one else noticed the creature hurtling past them.
Your stomach dropped however when you saw him stop and stand on his hind legs to face a man in a long coat. The man had his back to you but you were certain from his body language that he was very much aware of the rare creature that was now stood in front of him with glowing eyes.
“MERLIN NO!”, you panicked dashing towards the man.
“Sir, please don’t panic! He’s harmless I promise! He can’t hurt you, just stay calm!” you shouted at him as you approached, lunging for the Demiguise that dodged you, of course, sending you careening forward into the very arms of the man you were shouting at.
You gasped, blinking furiously when your vision transformed instantly while your heart seemed to swell to double its size in your chest. You stared down at the ground in wonder, taking in the way the shades of grey slowly bled into all these colours and shades you’d never seen before.
Newt grasped you in his arms with a loud ringing in his ears as he tightened his hold on you instinctively. He gaped back at you, so completely enraptured with the sight of you that he barely noticed the new spectrum of colour he could now see.
That was until you were suddenly moving out of his hold and rushing away from him. His knees nearly buckled as he watched your retreating figure, his brain now vaguely taking in the colours around him. He was still standing frozen to the sidewalk as he slowly came to digest what had just happened.
He had literally just run into his soulmate.  Who was chasing a Demiguise. You tripped and he caught you and then you ran away from him just as quickly, and his heart was surely about to shatter beyond repair but then oh-
You were walking back towards him, with the Demiguise perched on your hip and he felt his heart in his throat as he took you in.
You had nearly fallen again when Bunsen had suddenly stopped in his tracks, seemingly content with being in your arms again as you scooped him up. You noticed the way his eyes flashed and he was looking over your shoulder and you remembered that yes, you had just cannon balled into your soulmate.
The person you’d been dreaming of your entire life. “Why you clever little…”, you breathed out, petting Bunsen shakily while your heart slammed in your chest. You closed your eyes and sucked in a deep breath before you turned back around to face the man..
You two stood in front of one another for what felt like an hour, just staring at each other in complete awe. You took in the colour of his hair, fighting back the unexpected impulse you felt to comb your fingers through it and then you looked back into his eyes. And you knew then what your favourite colour in the world was.
Newt was entirely unprepared for the sudden urge he had to just touch. He’d never really understood the need for affection, instead shying away from it but as he gazed back at you his hands seemed to burn at his sides. He longed to run his thumb along your bottom lip or graze his hand down the curve of your shoulder to your waist.
Bunsen had apparently had enough of the silent staring competition going on between you two though because he let out a huff followed by low grumble.
This startled Newt from his stupor and he quickly held his hand out to you “I do apologise for my  rudeness, I’m-“
“Newt Scamander”, you breathed out quickly, your eyes bright and a small smile playing on your lips. Newt’s eyebrows flew up in response.
“You know my n-name?”, he stuttered, stunned that a beauty such as yourself would know who he was. And when you took his hand in your own he felt the most overwhelming sense of peace rush over him.
You squeezed his hand in your own, nodding slowly as you smiled wider at him “yes, I wrote to you. A few weeks ago. My name is-“
“Y/N L/N!”, he cut you off this time, his eyes wide as he set his case down beside him carefully, still gripping your hand in his own as he used the other to rummage through his coat pocket. “You wrote this!” he exclaimed, holding the obviously worn letter up for you to inspect.
It was your turn to look at him in astonishment as you nodded again, furrowing your eyebrows.
“I...something about this letter just felt...like home,” Newt explained, shyly threading his fingers with yours as he pocketed the letter once again.
When you stared back at him silently, glancing down at your joined hands he continued.
“I apologise, I really wanted to write you back but one of the Graphorn’s ate the envelope”, he turned to look at Bunsen then, nodding at him.
“I bet you two would get along”, he murmured and Bunsen made a noise of interest, reaching an arm out towards Newt signalling that he wanted to be held.
You looked down at Bunsen in surprise because he had never allowed another person to touch him before but your surprise quickly washed away as you watched Newt take him into his arms, greeting him with the kindest smile you’d ever seen that you couldn’t help but swoon. Of course he would like Newt. He had, after all, been trying to make this meeting happen for weeks now.
“Oh!”, you were broken out of your ogling when a passerby just barely missed knocking Newt’s case over that was still set on the ground beside him. You didn’t hesitate to pluck the case up, holding it securely against your chest and the very sight alone had Newt feeling dizzy with adoration. Not only were you breathtaking but you cared for creatures too.
“So um…” he cleared his throat nervously, looking back at you with hopeful eyes “I know I’m a bit late, but I wonder if you are still interested in that cup of tea?”
You smiled back at him widely, stepping close to him until you were nearly chest to chest and he sucked in a breath of surprise when you lay your hand over his where it was resting on Bunsen “yes, but only if you promise to show me around your case afterwards.”
Newt laughed softly, nodding as he shifted Bunsen to be perched on his hip with one arm so he could thread his fingers with yours again “well I suppose it would help if my assistant knew her way around the enclosures”, he murmured, looking over at you as you fell into step beside him, following him through the bustling streets hand in hand.  -MORE WRITINGS HERE-

For @evening-rose-309 who sent a prompt about a dog
“Would you stop?” Newt hisses, tugging his sleeve out of his soul’s mouth.
“Newt?” Leta asks, hesitating and cocking her head at him curiously. Newt can - just - see the shadowy outline of her own soul, something small and inquisitive peering over her shoulder. It’s a mark of how well he knows her, how close they are as friends, and the fact that she’s never seen so much as a stray tail-wag of his own soul is something he tries not to think about.
“He’s worrying again,” he says, frowning down at the dog. “Which he doesn’t need to do, because nothing’s going to go wrong.”
The dog - his soul - raises an unimpressed eyebrow and snags his other sleeve to try again.
“Oh,” Leta says. “We can go back, if you’re worried. Sorry, I didn’t realise.”
“What - no, I’m not worried. He is. It’s fine. C’mon Leta, we’ve been planning this for weeks.”
She’s already leaving though and he scowls in ungracious defeat. “If your soul’s worried then you’re worried,” she calls back to him. “The mooncalves will be there next full moon.”
The dog, black and white with a luxuriously silky coat, trots smugly after her and barks when Newt is too slow to follow. “Heel,” Newt snarks as he obeys. “Sit, stay. Roll over. I thought dogs were meant to be loyal and obedient, but no. I got the overprotective worrywart. Do I look like an overprotective worrywart? No. Clearly, you’re someone else’s soul, or just some random dog ghost that appeared in the night and stole mine. I wouldn’t put it past you.”
“Newt, you’re muttering again.”
He pulls a face at Leta. Then another at his soul, who is looking immeasurably happier now that they’re headed back in the castle instead of out to the forest at night, and is carefully scouting round corners for prefects.
Newt rolls his eyes, but dutifully hides behind a tapestry when he’s told. It’s his soul doing the telling, after all. You can’t argue with yourself.
Except, apparently for when you can. Newt’s expelled, his brother’s gone to war, he’s going to follow him - and his soul won’t let him go. “He’s Theseus,” Newt hisses, yanking his sleeve back and continuing to shrink his stuff into the battered suitcase he found. “We’re not going to leave him.”
The dog dances in place, as frustrated as he is, then tries to steal his registration forms. “Give those - hey! Do not chew that up, that’s the only ID I’ve got and I need - hey!” Newt salvages the soggy scrap, then throws it down in disgust. The charm’s bust; it displays his real age, too young to sign up.
“Listen,” he says, then levitates his case out of reach. “Listen damnit. We can’t stay here. What else are we meant to do? It won’t be that bad. We’re not backing out, so could we please just - could you do what a soul is meant to do and back me up for once?”
The dog whines, ears back, tail curled down. He crowds closer to Newt, butting his head against Newt’s lanky, unmuscled form and growling softly at the fake ID. “It won’t be that bad,” Newt repeats quietly, reaching out to stroke behind his ears. “We’ll be fine. Are you going to help me fix the charm?”
His soul does. It’s better than it was before.
War is not better. War is worse. The dog curls round him at night and leaps between him and enemy spells and once when Newt falls unconscious he feels his soul pulling him out the mud before he drowns. War is worse, and on his worst days he hides with the dragons and admits to his dog that he was right and they should never have come, and his dog rests his head on Newt’s knee and licks his face to comfort him.
“Hush,” he mumbles. “It’s not illegal, it’s heroic. We’re saving lives.”
He gets a flat stare in response, followed by a deafeningly loud bark. Thank god he’s the only one who can hear it, because there’s at least four guards that he can see. “You are entirely far too concerned with the law,” he says. “Where did I go wrong with you. Do you think I should use a shield charm, or go invisible and rely on stealth?”
In answer, the dog huffs, then grabs his sleeve and tows him round to the circus’ back entrance. Newt hadn’t even known high-top tents had a back entrance. “See?” he says. “We’ll make a hufflepuff of you yet. Let’s go free some unicorns.”
In Egypt, they fall ill. That’s the only way Newt can explain it. He doesn’t know what’s wrong, or what’s causing it, but he feels - tight. Too tight. Constrained. He wakes up gasping for breath with his fingers clawing at his throat, but there’s nothing there. The dog flinches at things neither of them can see, hackles raised and backing Newt into defensible corners when the shadows come too close.
There’s nothing there. Newt knows there’s nothing, he’s checked, but the dog is on such high alert and being so overprotective that they barely make it out of Cairo alive. The thunderbird is safe, though, and when Newt stumbles his way through a splinching his soul hauls him over the sand to a sheltered place to hide.
“Oh fuck,” Newt says, staring at his leg with wide, shocky eyes. “Oh fuck, it’s, what do I do, I never - I got expelled half way through that course, I don’t know what to do, it’s bleeding oh my fuck.”
The dog noses at his hands, teeth catching on the end of his sleeve, and Newt curls his fingers instinctively around the bottle. “Dittany?” He reads. “What do I do - hey, wait what are you - ow.” The dittany burns, but it does its job, and Newt’s leg slowly reforms into something he can walk on.
“Huh,” he says, as the dog inspects the scar. “I didn’t know you could do that.”
The illness doesn’t go away. By the time Newt gets to New York he feels like he can barely breathe every time he wakes up, and he spends the first morning throwing up in the toilet and cursing the fact that it wasn’t just sea sickness like he thought. The dog sticks close, too close, so much that it’s almost hard to walk through the crowded city streets.
“Is it a wizard thing?” Jacob asks, the fourth time Newt’s had to stop and wait for his soul to stop blocking the way. Jacob’s own soul is a monkey, Newt thinks, maybe one of the primates - he caught a glimpse of it when Jacob was staring in wonder at the creatures in his case. Not for the first time, Newt wishes he could share his dog with someone else. Not everyone. But. It would be nice, he thinks, for some people to see him the way they sometimes let him see them.
“No,” is what he says out loud. “Wizard souls aren’t any different from muggle ones, as far as I know. Mine just disagrees with me a lot.”
“Oh,” Jacob says, taken aback. “I’m... sorry?”
Newt would laugh, except his dog is curled miserably around his knees, staring out at the world as though it would hurt him. “Don’t be,” he says, dropping a hand to bury in the silky fur. “He’s just looking out for me. I wouldn’t have him any other way.”
In MACUSA’s holding cells they’re interrogated by a man called Percival Graves. Newt’s dog tries to rip his throat out. When they’re sent to be executed, the dog bites through the cuffs before Pickett can even crawl down to them, and barely gives Newt time to rescue Tina before he drags them away. They run through secret passages and disused access tunnels and Tina looks at him funny and asks how he knew they were there, and Newt waves the tattered ends of his sleeve at her in answer.
After, when Graves turned out to be Grindelwald and Picquery threw him in a cell, when Tina’s reinstated and Jacob’s forgotten and Frank is flying hurricane-high and riding the wind to Arizona, Newt stands on the dock and watches his boat pull out of the harbour.
“We were meant to be on that,” he says, but it sounds distant even to him. The dog gives him a muffled bork in reply, teeth clamped around his wrist, tail tucked low between his legs.
He’s started looking raggedy. His silky fur is going bald in patches. There’s a red welt developing around Newt’s neck from where he wakes up in the morning and has to remember how to breathe.
“Ok,” Newt says, letting his soul pull him insistently back to the city. “I’m coming. It’ll be ok.”
“Oh,” he says when he finds the man. He’s in chains, rough iron that suppresses his magic and has rubbed his skin raw and bleeding. It matches where the dog is losing fur.
“The fuck are you,” Graves rasps, shifting to hunch protectively over the little sugar-glider in his hands. It too is chained, one spelled iron-link that closes around its throat like a collar.
“Um,” Newt says, trusting his dog to keep watch while he works on undoing the wards. “I’m Newt. I think I have your soul.”
Graves freezes. His gaze darts between Newt and the dog, and there’s something undeniably vulnerable about realising that he can see him. The dog steps between them, hackles raised, and growls a warning, and that, of all things, makes Graves relax.
“Yeah,” he says, a vaguely hysterical note to his voice that suggests he thinks he’s dreaming. “Mangy mutt that likes to fight. Sounds like me.”
“You should see him when he’s had a bath,” Newt says mildly. “He’s very handsome.”
The wards fall, and Newt busies himself with releasing the chains and misses Graves reaction. When the last iron link cracks open he feels it like a weight lifted off his neck, and the sugar glider squeaks and scrambles up to sit on Graves’ head.
“You’re going to drag me on an adventure, aren’t you?” Graves asks, sounding resigned. “And then you’re going to get in trouble and I’m going to have to rescue you.”
“Well,” Newt says. “You’re going to make a fuss about breaking the law, and then you’re going to worry too much about everything that could go wrong. But you’re also going to be there to make sure it doesn’t go badly wrong, so that’s ok.”
Graves barks out a laugh, and chokes through the coughing fit that follows. Both Newt and the sugar glider hover awkwardly over him, Newt with a spell to ease his airways, the sugar glider with a tiny hand tugging comfortingly on his ear. “Sounds like me,” Graves says when he can speak again.
“Good. But first, you’re going to come home and get better and I’m going to fuss over you until you’re well again.”
“And that,” Graves says, and raises a finger to stroke the sugar glider with a fond smile, “That sounds a lot like you.”

“Lost At Sea” (either newt or theseus to molly or angel?)
Send “Lost At Sea” for a starter where your muse is a sailor that goes overboard, and mine is the mermaid who rescues them!
As roguish as he was, Mollymauk absolutely detested pirates. They disgusted him with their catcalls, their drunken shenanigans, and their utter disregard for intelligent life. He made it a point to follow every pirate ship he came across and cause as much chaos for them as he possibly could, with the intention of eventually causing them to sink. The lavender merman had many tools at his disposal, the most useful of which was his lilting voice, which could bear a hypnotic siren song or a harsh infernal screech. The first would lure any swashbuckling scalawag into leaning over the railing just to catch a glimpse of his handsome form in the water below. The second would pierce their minds, scaring them into losing their balance and falling overboard, sending them to a watery grave. Or worse.
Molly had pulled the same routine several times in the last decade. Drowned many a ruthless cutthroat. Devoured some, if he was desperate enough for food. But he’d never regretted doing so. In fact, it brought him immeasurable satisfaction. Until, of course, one smarmy captain finally got clever. Avantika was a right terror of the seas, and not one to fall for the same trick twice. After losing a good portion of her crew to the siren’s antics, she’d wisened up and fashioned earplugs for them out of candle wax. The only person on the ship without them was a prisoner.
Molly’s song drew him to the side, as expected, but scarlet eyes narrowed when they zeroed in on the lone victim. Wild ginger curls. Handsome freckled face. Wide innocent eyes. This was no pirate. As the mermaid scrutinized him further, he came to the conclusion that this beautiful man was, in fact, bait. Captain Avantika was attempting to trap him. “Real cute, pirate scum!” he called out, keeping his distance from the ship. He didn’t care whether they heard him or not. “I can still drown him from further than a net’s range, though!” To prove his point, he let out a bellowing, borderline demonic screech, watching the man with pity as he clutched his head and fell overboard. As soon as he heard the splash, Molly dove under the waves and made a beeline for the rapidly sinking man, nimbly avoiding being caught by the nets that had been thrown overboard.
His muscular purple tail, dotted with nine spots of crimson, propelled him onward, and in no time at all he was dragging the man back up to the surface just behind the ship. “Sorry about that,” he muttered, “but I wasn’t about to just leave you with them. Hold on tight to me and your breath, if you can, and I’ll see if I can get you back to dry land.”

[MiniFic! Newcob]
AU!Soulmate.
Angst/Drama.
Hurt/Confort.
Primer beso.
Final feliz.
* * *
Esa situación no duró mucho.
Luego volvió a detenerse.

I would like to dedicate today's horror trip to:
@willofhounds, for giving me this prompt
@aethelar, for inspiring my work ethic
@grimalkinmessor, for feeding my dark, horrible gremlins I have written two angst things in a row and I-
"You're markless."
For the first time since his imprisonment, Newt saw the dark lord visibly tense. He froze, back to the cell, where Newt could see a shadow of a dragon under his blood-damp shirt.
A dragon unmoving, a long dead, lifeless thing inked on the skin of a soulless man.
"We both know that isn't your mark," Newt continued. "When you breathe, it doesn't breathe with you. When you walk, it's wings are still-"
When you kill, its maw is open yet no fire comes.
"-it's just a picture, isn't it Lord Grindelwald?"
A tattoo. A mediocre placeholder for a mark. Even as he spoke, Newt weakly shuddered at what he knew it implied.
Soulmarks. They were abundant in the magical world, and sometimes even the non-magical. Most had one, an animal or a beast that moved and breathed as its own entity, that roamed the skin of its keeper and lives as they leave. A creature that leads you through your future and to the one your heart misses and beloves.
For years Newt had been debating his mark. For years it had led him down winding paths that left him contentedly isolated from his peers. He'd begun to think the love his mark missed were the very creatures marks were based on, that roamed outside of the human skin, in the waking world, alive and shaped and wonderful.
But that was after he'd made the false guesses, for the raven was too fitting to be Leta, a melancholy magpie on his brother's shoulder, or Tina, a feisty osprey on Graves'. They'd been too good to be true, in the long run, and the more he thought about it, the less he thought his own mark to be such a conventional creature.
It was there now on his collar, bare and torn since the acolytes first beating of him and Grindelwald had yet to deign him with another. If he would. In truth, Newt hadn't seen the dark lord much, though he could hear him, his prisoners cries for mercy down the halls keeping him up at night. Newt himself hadn't meant to get caught, yet of course he did. Poachers, of course, had no honor or mercy and neither did their cohorts who had ties to The Greater Good. Acolytes were even more so, and Newt had a broken arm and two busted kneecaps to prove it.
Blood was trickling down his face now. Honestly, they'd hit his head more times than he could count and he was sure he had a concussion. Half the time he wasn't truly conscious of the world and could only half hear the words that coughed out of his own lips.
His eyes though, they were oddly fine, if not a bit sensitive, and thus he could see the horrid, terrible picture on the dark lord's back in clarity through the blood. How on earth it had seeped all the way through, he did not want to know.
Now said dark lord was facing him, again, and walking back towards the cell. Earlier he'd tried to interrogate Newt, but soon gave up seeing as Newt could hardly hear any of his words, let alone form a coherent thought. His steps were muffled in Newt's ears but they still thundered, as did the screech of metal as the cell door grazed the stone floor.
He was speaking, Newt thought, but of course couldn't hear. The dark lord had a rather soft voice, raspy, but silken. Newt would imagine it sounded nice and perhaps that was how he lured so many to side. Perhaps it was the voice that had bewitched Queenie and had drawn in Leta- Leta, please be alive, I know you're here, he can't have killed you, Leta-
An iron soled boot came to roll his head upwards. The leather was warm and wet on his cheek.
Newt couldn't find the strength to fight it.
For a long time the dark lord just stared into his face. Newt wondered what he was thinking, those predatory eyes blank and narrow. The scrutiny, Newt thought, was this what it felt like to be stared down by hawk? To be a mouse in a thorny nest, fresh caught and captive under knife-like claws, and your captor was wondering what to do with you. Maybe Grindelwald would eat him, tear his heart out. Maybe the dark lord was bored and wanted something to play with. Maybe he knew Newt was delirious and was pondering ways to put him out of his misery. Newt distantly wondered about his creatures.
Then the dark lord was smiling and Newt's heart simpered.
"What a terribly smart thing you are, Mister Scamander. Terribly smart and cunning-"
And then he was being lifted into the dark lord's arms.
"I'm afraid you can't stay here any longer, Scamander," the words echoed in Newt's head. "You're sick and you might just run your mouth and I can't have that now can I?"
The world spun. Newt was seeing lights and dark spots. Grindelwald's voice sounded a cacophony of crashing plates and scratching forks over a centuries old organ. Newt struggled, feebly, but the pale man's grip was iron as he carried Newt out of his cell.
"Sleep Scamander," the dark lord whispered. "Sleep, Miss Lestrange will be there when you wake, and I'll show you the true meaning of horror when you do."
Newt's world blackened, his heart wrenching a final wrench as he thought of his friend and the promise the dark lord held over their heads.
Later he was made to watch as she died. Newt had been chained to the bed as Grindelwald tore Leta's heart out, screaming her name, begging for him to stop, bargaining, as she screamed and cried as he skinned and butchered her alive.
Later he would wake in a fine king's bed, his limbs free, and the sun gleaming out a slim framed window. Later, he would check the floors with his mended fingers and smell no blood. Later, he would cry on that same floor, tears spewing down his face, crying Leta's name. Later, he would wake alone with a locked door and fresh new clothes and his case on the bed.
Later, he would wake, but his heart would not be at ease, for the nightmare that repeated itself each time he slept would haunt his day and plague his mind. Newt would not rest, he refused to sleep, and if he did, it would always be in his case, and not the four poster king with the perch standing by its side. He would not look at his mark, even though it screeched and gawked and flapped for his attention.
Later he would wake screaming, always screaming, for his dreams all ended the same way.
Grindelwald, smiling kind and sweet, tossing Leta's heart into the maw of the bird that was Newt's soulmark.

You Exist. [Soulmate AU!]
Words count: 1001.
Pairing: Theseus Scamander x Reader.
Warnings: Fluff, Modern AU!, Danger Incoming, Some Angst.
Request:  Hey, I love your writing. I thought maybe a Theseus Scamander x reader. I haven’t fully thought it through, but a soulmate AU that has something to do with the Patronus. ☺️
He was thrilled the first time he saw you. Whether you were a wizard, or a muggle, or anything else, you were special. Maybe that soft, shiny hair of yours did the trick, or maybe it was just your eyes, or maybe it was... It was late, really late, past midnight. Shit, he knew that if he stared too long, it could make you uncomfortable, feel endangered, maybe you would think he’d hurt you.
And just as he filled himself with negative thoughts, trying to approach you to explain, he lost you from view. Where did you go? It was only five seconds of rambling! The hell... But he heard it, a small squeak; and then a scream, and finally a deaf thump against the pavement.
“Excuse me?” he wondered politely but worried “You... Are you okay?”
The moonlight shone brightly, it almost lights up the whole dark alley and you thought, ironically, that it looked magical. Of course, magic it was because a young and well-dressed wizard appeared in front of you, with their illuminated wand. “A stray cat scared me” you explained yourself.
He offered you his hand, you took it almost immediately, having second thoughts after touching it. Felt so soft, so clean, looked so pale, he was definitely not your type. Was it because he was obviously a wealthy man? Or because he probably studied in Hogwarts? Or maybe you just were having trust issues.
Life had taught you to never trust anyone.
“Thank you for worrying” you cut him off before he can actually ask you if you’re alright, again. But, before you could even think of taking your leave, your stomach growled loudly. “I need to eat, in case you didn’t notice”
“It’s okay” He giggled. “Can I walk you home?”
Your heart sank in your chest. How would you tell this good man that you didn’t have one? Maybe he didn’t have good intentions anyways, and the easiest thing to do was to reject the offer.
“I can actually go alone, no worries”
Biting your lip, a smile fell towards him. Quickly, you turned around and took a fast step; enough embarrassment was to fall in front of that rich faced man, to actually admit you had to sleep in an abandoned house.
Fate didn’t work in your favor though, because twenty minutes later and just as you were arriving at your place, you encounter him again. You were passing the bars from the door, with some feline movements, when your gaze clashed with his. He looked horrified, but it may have been your own horror that made his features soften up into shock, and finally a small smile.
“Pleasedon’ttellanyone...” you let out, your voice becoming little from the vulnerability. If somebody found out, they may kick you out. You couldn’t take the risk “I really have nowhere else to go...”
Theseus stared at the house, and the conditions it was in. He wouldn’t be surprised if maybe, during night time, you were sleeping and somebody intruded in and... Did something to you, or maybe the ceiling fell on top of your sleeping body. Think things through, Theseus he thought, but you looked so innocent.
“Do you want a cup of tea, maybe?” he questioned with a low voice. It surprised you, and you’d say no, but your gut told you that someone good got on your way “Or hot chocolate. I could give you a butterbeer... I’d offer fire whiskey but I don’t know how old are you and...”
“Hot chocolate is okay” you stopped his rambling, smiling at the cute blush on his cheeks. It was a cold night, and the thin sweater you wore didn’t help you at al. Hot chocolate sounder really nice at the moment. “Thank you”
He gave you a shy chuckle, not knowing what to say. The way to his house lasted less than you thought it would, and the place was amazingly warm. When you passed the door, he got lost for a moment just to come back with a blanket for you. It smelled like home, firewood, and rain...
“How did you end up in the street?”
The question made you sit down and look up at him. You could see regret in his eyes, maybe because he regretted bringing you here, or maybe just because he just realized how personal his question could be.
“After my mother died, my father was sent to Azkaban” you’d explain, snuggling into the soft blanket. “I almost died that day”
He let himself fall next to you, in a loud deaf sound that made you smile bitterly to yourself. You’ve never had anyone that actually cared or dared to ask.
“W-why...? How...? God, I’m so sorry, I-”
“It’s okay” you cut him off “I got over it a long time ago”
He coughed, with red cheeks and a shy glance on your eyes. His whole face wondered “Why? Why did he go to Azkaban?” so you spoke:
“He murdered my mother...” and when the horrified expression took over his face, you couldn’t keep up his yes “...And when the dementors came for him, they almost took me too. I kept running away ever since, just thinking that someday they’ll catch me.”
Theseus let out a heavy exhale. He actually looked like he had been holding his breath, and just when you expected an apology or some petty, you were startled by a yell. His wand moved while he exclaimed:
“Expecto Patronum!”
And so a beautiful gleam of light fell from the top of the wood, and then you saw an owl fly it’s way to you. You were hypnotized by the beauty of the light creature that you couldn’t catch his eyes all over your hopeful grin.
A warm feeling invaded your chest and even happier you cast:
“Expecto Patronum!”
It happened in a second as another owl joined the scene. You let out a giggle and he promised to protect you. He promised they’d all protect you.
