It so happened that some time ago I bought some plain wood slats, thinking to use them for plant name tags in my garden. Sorting them, I became distracted by the sound they made, clacking together, because the sound reminded me of the very cool bamboo slat scroll books and this scene:

Being a huge book nerd, I got possessed by an idea: I want to try making myself one! Now, a couple of weeks, some thinking, lots of sandpapering, writing Chinese (badly), sketching and plenty of cursing later... Well, here it is.

The lyrics of Wuji, written vertically from right to left in what I think is called the small or lesser seal script. I love that script, but damn: if you want to remember what it was like learning to write as a kid, I warmly recommend this 😅. I am sure Lan Qiren would have my hide if he ever saw this. Also, I posted the original sketches for Wangxian earlier (here), as I was not sure if I could pull the drawings off... and well, let's just say I do not wish to start painting on wood slats again any time soon 😛.
