Its feels like a new trend rn. no old clothers (they're left in the old era so that "new" fans don't need to bother watching it), no old sonic since it's broke in the dwm. it’s actually kinda funny every time i see people bitch about thasmin, a ship where both characters are canonically queer, for it being queerbaiting and just trying to trick ppl into watching the show bc ~diversity and not following through (queerbaiting is Not the phenomenon of a ship not making out. Sorry. That’s just run of the mill ship wank but gay) when i’d argue that them announcing the next doctor as a black man, taking praise for their diversity for a week before announcing a middle aged white dude is Back to play the doctor in a way that offers Zero clarifying information in way more of a hype announcement than the other guy got (he didn’t get as much of an announcement as much as he got a footnote. Capaldi got a whole live tv show. Whittaker got a tiny tv spot and people thought she was getting short changed. But that’s Nothing to what they did to Gatwa), and then Conveniently leave it a few months to say ‘actually nooo Gatwa’s not the next doctor, it’s this white man. We absolutely didn’t mention this in the first place so you’d not call us out for the actual legitimate lies we told you about this casting situation’ is uh. That thing you’re mad at. Actually there. 

In between announcement 1 and tpotd airing and them Immediately saying ‘btw it’s actually this white guy we hired, not the man we told you about’ they filmed a Mastermind episode, and one of the questions in the general knowledge round was asking “who has been announced as the next doctor?” The answer was, of course, Gatwa. Because they lied, and the question setter did not know that yet. Who the fuck knows their reasoning for this clusterfuck, but even if it Was just straight up utter stupidity rather than calculated maliciousness, it was absolutely not okay.

WHAT are people not understanding abt this??? this is not rtd and dt coming in to steal ncuti’s thunder this is bbc and rtd drumming up excitement and trying to entice new and old viewers to tune in. they are trying to get dw in the collective conscious again so it gets more press and more people will then watch ncuti’s doctor. like this is not them trying to overshadow him??? i can guarantee you dt and ctate are not staying, they’ll just be in the 60th. and we don’t even know if the 60th is ncuti’s first episode! this could be like what the rumors were saying: a sort of anthology of past doctors and companions. rtd even hinted at there being some more news to be dropped at a later date on insta. like i LOVE dw and i love thirteen’s era but it is a FACT that viewership started dwindling with matt but not enough to be felt and once pcap was cast a large majority of viewers left bc “the doctor wasn’t hot anymore” or they didn’t like twelve’s more acerbic personality at the beginning. with the casting of jodie there was another surge of new viewers but not enough stuck around. the bbc asking russell to come back and asking dt and ctate to come back is to get dw’s viewership up again. they are not making 10 the new 14. ncuti gatwa IS the 14th doctor. the 60th is a celebration of doctor who’s past so OF COURSE old doctors are going to come back. peter i think would rather eat his arm than come back and matt seems like he’d be willing to come back but he’s not like jumping at the chance. chris e took a massive step by doing some big finish but i don’t think he’d actually come back to the television series proper, esp not with the old team back together. dt will almost always come back, that’s just who he is. he loves the show and he loves the character and he didn’t have as bad of a time as peter and jodie did with audiences and journalists or chris e with behind the scenes bullshit
