You (correctly) mentioned that the whole "we never hear about Joker's parents" thing is because the player is supposed to project on him

And I think that's a big thing that bothers me about the Abusive Parents take and the "PT only want Joker to solve their problems" take.

Thinking of Watsonian explanations for gameplay/narrative quirks is fine but sometimes you gotta know when to draw the line.

Sometimes you need to recognize when the video game is just being a video game.

What annoys me about “the pt only what joker to solve their problems” is that to even get there you have to ignore that the gameplay is part of the text because if you pay attention to the gameplay you’ll notice the part where *JOKER GETS POWER UPS AND OTHER BENEFITS FROM HIS FRIENDS*

Like damn for fucking years I’d see persona 3 and persona 4 fics where the party members found out about social links and felt betrayed because they thought the protagonist was only using them for the power up (even though textually that’s not supported either) it drives me bonkers that we’re now going the other direction

It feels so hollow here, surrounded by other works of art and gawked at from afar rather than being the quiet fireplace it had been in LeBlanc. Yusuke wonders how long it had been there without him thinking anything more of it than the pedestrians stopping and passingly mentioning its beauty before moving on.

Her red bangs fall in front of her face and her glasses clang on the tile when she lowers her chin. Her jaw tightens and her hands ball into fists. She thinks she hears Akechi but she can’t understand a thing that he says. “Shut up.”

Meet Al Ryse, Udgey's favorite bailiff because he has been with him for quite a moment and puts up with one too many nonsense in the courtroom. He is good natured and friendly with just the judge, fellow bailiffs, and others within the courthouse but that's about it because, tragically, he is greying a bit too early thanks to the absolute stress these lawyers, witnesses and prosecutors put him through.

He is also definitely on the Judge's 'send a Christmas card' list.

some jake headcanons

-likes hot sauce (this came from the fic your dreams wrapped up in mine by tinybutfierce)

-refers to wendy and elias by name instead of as ‘mom’ and ‘dad’

-whilst marc writes the postcards from steven’s ‘mum’, jake is the one who pays the flat’s rent and also will often give steven trinkets from his own journeys from his ‘mum’

-can speak the most languages out of the system

-smokes (apparently this is a common headcanon?)

-is an awful actor, to the point where most people can tell he’s fronting or at the very least something is off with marc or steven

-geniunely cares about the rest of the system, but has his own way of showing it -- kind of acts like a teasing older brother

-while steven is specifically an introject of dr steven grant, jake was pretty much formed at random and was more formed from experiences with wendy

-although his name came from a misunderstanding (this one is from quizás, quizás, quizás by zippe and also is a reminder you should read that fic its brilliant 10/10 jake characterisation)

-his suit is at its most powerful during the full moon

-the flatcap doesn’t form with him that would be silly... he keeps it in the glovebox of his limo for safe keeping

-he has a shoebox full of his stuff that he keeps in steven’s flat, just in case

-good with kids, but in the would teach them how to do illegal stuff way (this one was taken from my mate @nexttrickanvils)

-kind of acts like a teenager’s idea of what a ‘cool guy’ would be like

-while he doesn’t want marc or steven to know of his existence, secretly he’s a bit lonely and often drops small hints so they will figure it out

I hate hate hate the headcanon/theory/whatever of "Wakaba did human experiments for her Cognitive Pscience and one of her subjects was Akechi and this is hinted by the Featherman game you can play in Royal."

Like 1. Considering how vindictive and dramatic Akechi is, don't you think he'd mention something like that?

2. Even if people saying this theory don't intend it, it comes off a "They were no angel" defense, that Akechi killing Wakaba's Shadow was justified. Like no Wakaba was not perfect but no one should go through what she and then Futaba went through.

I think that was partially based off some concept art but yeah, there becomes a point where if it was canon it would have come up by not. Persona 5 is not a particularly subtle or metaphorical game and it doesn’t hold back on it’s darker aspects. Futaba talks about how her relatives left her in a dog cage. Persona experiments on children are an established thing in the series.

if Wakaba was doing human experiments, SOMEONE would have mentioned it, either Goro or Shido, and it would be a part of Futaba’s character arc the way reckoneing with their loved ones shitty actions is a part of Haru, Yusuke, and to a degree Makoto’s arcs.

(To a much lesser extent this is why I don’t like ‘Madarame is yusuke’s bio dad’ as a take/theory. Like if that was intended then it would have come up in the scene where we went over all the shitty things Madarame did)

Also seriously what is with the strain of fans who are like “Akechi did nothing wrong/was totally justified” like just admit that your fave is ok with murder

Why stop there? Have Shinya meet the rest of the PT. You know Ryuji would be thrilled to have someone asking him about their exploits as the PT.

Shinya wants to see the PTs base and so Akira decides to bring Shinya to the next PT meeting and Shinya’s disappointed to find that the PTs base is just Akira’s room but is super excited to meet the other PT and instead of going to Mementos like they planned they decide to hang out with Shinya and before he knows it Shinya has the entire PT as a squad of big siblings

Also you mentioning Ryuji and Shinya interacting reminded me of this Pegoryu fic I read a while ago where Ryuji and Shinya bond over they’re broken families it’s real sweet
