Joaquín's been getting a bit bold as of late.

He'd known the baby falcon had had a thing for Sam this whole time, of course, had watched him flirt and blush his way through every conversation back when Sam and himself were still firmly just frenemies.

It had been kind of fun to watch then, is still kind of fun to watch now, even though Bucky's less and less sure with each new flirty remark that Joaquín's not actually trying to shoot his shot.

Bucky trusts Sam. He knows they're solid. They've even talked about Joaquín's obvious crush on occasion, though it's pretty obvious to the both of them each time that the conversation's still ongoing.

Bucky's a little tipsy tonight though, halfway to drunk off that heavy Asgardian ale he really never should have touched, and he's teetering over the line of annoyance.

Joaquín's an affectionate drunk, as he and Sam are both learning tonight.

He's got an arm around Sam on the couch they're sitting on, and is leaning over on him, his head on his shoulder. Sam's got that amused look in his eyes he gets when Bucky is being particularly ridiculous or stubborn about something that doesn't actually matter, and something flares a little hot in his stomach at seeing it aimed at someone else.

Whatever Joaquín's saying is being mumbled into Sam's shoulder, so Bucky doesn't actually hear their conversation till he gets up closer.

"...look so amazing when you're flying, Sam," he says, voice filled with awe. "You always look so beautiful up there."

Bucky sees green. "He does, doesn't he?" he says sincerely, hoping Sam can't hear any trace of jealousy in his voice. He sits down on Sam's other side, pressing their legs as close together as he can, and tilts Sam's head towards him. "Every day I wonder how I got so lucky."

He leans in, then, capturing Sam's lips with his own. He makes a bit of a show of it, admittedly, parting his lips and pulling Sam's head in closer. He kisses him for just a little too long to be polite, but not too long it can't be explained away by the last drink he'd downed.

It's not quite long enough to really savor the taste of the whiskey Sam's been nursing on his own tongue, but he figures they've got all night for that later.

He pulls back slowly, relishing in the way it takes Sam just a moment too long to open his eyes after, and places his hand down on Sam's thigh, entirely too high up not to be deliberate.

When Sam turns back to Joaquín, just on the side of dazed, Bucky turns towards him too, smug and satisfied.

He finds the baby bird staring back at him already, his eyes wide and his lips parted as he looks between them both, breath a little heavier as his gaze catches on Sam's chest, on Bucky's arms, on the edge of a hickey poking out from under the collar of Bucky's shirt.

Bucky moves his hand up even higher on Sam's thigh.

They might just have to revisit that Joaquín conversation again, he thinks.

How did you get into sambucky? I've seen so much stuff for it but Im worried. I really liked samsteve, but that was more..balanced? Sam was treated better. I just feel like sam has been used as bucky's therapist since 2014, and Ive seen fics that are just more of that but worse. Or they're just an excuse for bucky to shit on/move on from steve, with sam as a fill-in.

Have you been able to find good fics/authors? The actual sam-centric tag doesn't seem to work out too well, people dont tag right.

Hey, anon! SamSteve did seem more balanced on one hand, on the other hand I did run into instances where it felt like people were using Sam as a placeholder for Bucky. I think because the SamSteve fandom is relatively smaller though, its less overwhelming or something. Like for a minute on SamBucky ao3 every other fic was an offensive hot mess, but SamSteve doesn’t seem that way. I do enjoy a good ol’ SamSteve fic lol.

Listen, I kinda lucked out as far as finding the good side of the SamBucky fandom. I read some fanfic on ao3 and lurked around here for a good long while before I “actively” joined the fandom, and I joined at a good time — pre-TFATWS — before we had a lot of Stucky transplants. There was still some wild stuff, but it wasn’t as bad as it got in the spring of last year.

no bc that’s the thing that man is so FRUSTRATING… like ok here’s kind of how i imagine matt in my head:

basically i’m imagining reader as an entry level lawyer, maybe going to nelson & murdock to shadow them/work as an intern. and matt AUTOMATICALLY takes a liking to you. like you come in for an interview and foggy is like “well we’ll have to deliberate together and see if you’re the right fit-“ but matt immediately cuts him off like “we’d love to have you in board, can you start monday?” like he’s UGH

also, matt is SUCH a tease, and he definitely uses his heightened senses to his advantage. he’ll be handing you documents or sneak past you in the hall, and he’ll purposefully brush against you or gently place his hand on your hip so you don’t bump into him, and he can feel your pulse going a MILE A MINUTE. he always chuckles to himself over how sensitive you are to him, even with the most insignificant touches😵‍💫

and he especially loves when you come to court to watch him on a case. you’re always very punctual, vigorously taking notes and writing down any and all information you can. but sometimes, when matt’s really go at it (typically on a cross examination) you get sort of… distracted😵‍💫 he just looks so hot up there questioning the witness. he’s obviously very easy on the eyes (you can tell he’s absolutely ripped under the suit i mean come on how is a lawyer so fit?), but it’s the fact that he makes it look so easy. he seems to always now what to say and how to make things go his way, especially in court, and it honestly just makes you want him ALL THE MORE🤭 but sometimes, matt is so focused in on your increasing heart rate and your elevated body temperature that he sometimes looses his train of thought. matt will hear you make the slightest little gasp at his line of questioning - no one else would even be able to hear you, but he obviously catches it - and he will stop mid sentence just listening to your breathing😵‍💫 the judge would be like “you ok councilor?” and matt would be all flustered like “ahem, sorry, where was i?” UGH

plus, he’s a HUGE tease before you’re officially together, always being overly flirtatious at josie’s or even at work on late nights. foggy always acts disgusted and it’s so funny💀 matt’s just so smooth it’s like electricity every time you talk to him, and he loves to get a reaction out of you. it’s always a lot more fun at night after work at josie’s bc matt takes off his suit jacket and rolls up his sleeves and the things you would let that man do to you…

Ngl, being the spooky baby that I am, I highkey lowkey wanna turn these prompts (19. Summer Camp AU & 63. Everybody Knows/Mistaken for Couple) into some kind of summer horror adventure… 

It’s a long, hot summer in 1986, and Bucky and Steve are lifeguards at Camp Crystal Lake. The job is boring, and the kids are annoying, and most days all there really is to do is to sit in the shade eating ice cream and reading comic books (or, in Steve’s case, doodling in his sketchbook). 

What’s even worse, all the other camp counselors seem to think Bucky and Steve are… together. 

Which is, like, RIDICULOUS. 

They don’t even like each other, really; it’s just that they’re doing the most important job at the camp (the importance of which seems to be lost on the other counselors — and the kids, too, to be honest), which means they basically have to spend all of their time together (including sleeping in the same cabin), and, yeah, maybe they’ve also developed a repertoire of slightly odd inside jokes. 

But that’s just normal, right? 

Then, one by one, the counselors start to go missing…

Bucky likes hearing you sing. It didn't matter whether you were singing to yourself he will sit there and listen because you're actually embarrassed to sing around him. But when it's been long day or he has just come back from a mission he'll come up and hug you or have you sit on his lap and ask you to sing for him to help him calm down and of course you can't say no to that

There's a lot of teasing and playful banter between you two and that's fun and all, but for some damn reason when ever he flirts with you any thought you had in that pretty head of yours is out the damn window. He loves to tease you like fuck. He can't help but grin when he sees you become shy and quiet. It just encourages him more so he'll com up close and wrap his arms around you, lowering his voice and whispering sweet nothings to you.

If he really wants a reaction out of you he'll call you his pretty girl, or his baby, and tells you he'll give you a real reason to blush as he runs his hands down to your waist.

He's not gonna tell you but seeing you so flustered is a bit of a turn on.

After the come down he does his best to get you out the dark headspace with coping mechanisms he had learned to help himself before and has learned others just incase those didn't work for you. He'll give you space even if needed.

He wants to be there for you just as much as you are for him.

Face time calls are a frequent thing when he's gone because he has a hard time sleeping without you sometimes so he calls you. Hearing your voice alone isn't enough.

When you guys are out and about bucky can't help but become a little protective so he's always holding your hand or staying close. He'll pretty much death glare anyone that looks at you funny. Like he's used to the strange looks he'll get here and there but if someone stares at you for a minute too long he ain't happy.

There's some nights where can't sleep or wake up too early so you find yourself in the living room cuddled up with a blanket watching tv but when bucky starts tossing and turning and tries to cuddle you he'll wake up noticing you're not there so he'll get up to be with you or bring you back to bed.

Bucky's favorite sound is the sound of your laughter. besides the sounds you make in bed. He's a little clumsy so a mistake here and there gets a cute laugh or giggle out of you. He does get a bit embarrassed but he doesn't really mind if means he gets to see you happy. He'll make a fool out of himself any day. Oh! he'll even try to find videos he thinks you'll find funny and send them to you just to hear you laugh.

If you snort that's a plus.

He'll spoil you with gifts and you've tried to tell him that he doesn't have to but he'll tell you to zip it because you deserve it.

Bucky just wants to show you that he cherishes you and loves you.

And a couple of bruises. Just typical hero things that you should be used to but aren't.

As soon as Sam's eyes meet yours, he's staggering out of Bucky's arms and into yours.

"Babyyyyy, how you doing?" he slurs.

You look at Bucky with narrowed eyes.

"Yeah, he's hopped up on medication, he might be a little woozy for a while." Bucky smirks.

You and Bucky were no strangers to nightmares; over the years, both of you were frequently plagued by them. They never became any easier to manage.

You live in the now, but there is one thing that will always and forever be a part of your past.

The Super Soldier serum.

The Soldier is part of who you are - who you both are. It's a part of Bucky, a part of you.

It wasn't an easy decision to make; to take that acceptance of what the past had set you on, and face forward.

Bucky shouts, bringing you out of your light, fitful sleep with a jolt. You throw yourself up and away from the bed with one quick motion.

It takes a moment for your vision to clear, and your breathing to steady. By the time your heart slows back down to normal, you're aware of Bucky was sitting up, leaning back with his hands braced on either side of his hips, breathing harshly, and panting as sweat dripped down his face and onto his chest, fingertips glistening with moisture.

Your pulse hadn't even calmed down enough for you to register what caused it to speed up in the first place when you exhale sharply, seeing Bucky crouched in the middle of the bed, face contorted in the middle of a scream. You can't see his eyes behind the glare the moonlight throws at you, but you get the feeling he's looking right at you.

He's looking at you.

"Bucky," you say, softer than you intend to, eyeing him as you finish sliding up onto your feet in the floor. "Hey. It's okay, Bucky. Breathe," you offer, holding your hands out open and out to your sides, to show you mean him no harm.

Bucky doesn't register your words and doesn't stop staring at you. His eyes are wide, his fists clenched.

"It's only me, Bucky," you breathe. It's then you notice how tense his body is; the tic of the muscle in his jaw, the tension in his arms, the way his shoulders hunch. He looks like he's ready for a fight, ready to grab his weapon of choice and take aim for the kill.

"Bucky, look at me," you request, the words coming out as soothing as you think you can get them. "Breathe with me. Come on. It's just me. You're safe," you reassure, still maintaining a safe distance.

It takes a couple of seconds, but you can see the way his shoulders visibly relax when he finally looks up at you, breathing deeply and still shaking. The sight of him in the state he was in made your heart ache.

You nod, ready to approach.

"I'm sorry," he whispers, and you can hear him swallow audibly. "I…" he falters, pausing, and then he pauses again, exhaling harshly. "I'm sorry." he repeats.
