the thing that really gets me about the las nevadas vs cookie outpost thing today is that neither of them legitimately hold any ill will towards the other. tubbo doesnt actually want to attack quackity and quackity said that he’d give tubbo was the only person he’d give the benefit of the doubt, but theyre unwilling to compromise because they’ve both been hurt to much to trust each other.

(/RP) I’ve been really confused recently with what I perceived as a change in smp!Dream’s character arc. During the war between Manberg and Pogtopia, he was supposedly all for chaos. But then suddenly this season, he’s claiming to be all about peace? It didn’t make any sense to me, until I realized what he’s really looking for is control, and he’s using this idea as the keeper of the peace as a way to control those around him. To him, controlling everyone is essentially the definition of peace, albeit not “actual peace” (as in, having no conflict w/ free will and not just everyone doing what Dream wants). Last season, he said he wanted chaos. Which makes no sense if he says now that he wants peace. But if what he wants is control, it makes sense because he really knew what was going to happen at the end either way. He was in control of the situation. He knew that no matter what happened, Wilbur had already agreed to blow up L’Manberg.
This season, he is using his supposed desire for peace as a means of control. Hiding behind the idea of wanting peace and being a rational force that protects the server allows him to get what he wants and gain control without most of the smp even noticing he’s doing it. It also gives him points in Tubbo’s book, because Tubbo is currently very focused on thinking with logic first and trying to achieve peace. (Dream is presenting himself as a logical figure in opposition to Tommy’s heart-on-sleeve emotion first behavior). Using George’s house as an excuse and recommending Tommy be exiled as a way to ‘keep the peace’, for example. The whispered messages to Tommy, the overreaction to what would normally be a pretty common griefing, and the continued punishment even after George was no longer king all showed that what Dream really wanted was for Tommy to no longer be a problem, because Tommy is one of the only SMP members that Dream cannot seem to control.
As another example, reinstating Eret as king, because “he’ll be a better king, because he’s more neutral” conveniently keeps Eret from helping L’Manberg with all of his resources since he’s forced to be neutral.
This newest war(? fight? whatever it was) with Quackity is actually perfect for Dream, because Quackity handed him an opportunity on a silver platter to present himself as a force of peace. With Quackity literally exploding one of his allies, attacking and framing the king for a position that is literally meant to be a figurehead/a way for Dream to manipulate people (and that George doesn’t care about?), and starting a pretty unnecessary war, Dream is easily handed a situation in which he can present himself as level-headed and rational and for peace (this one’s kind of legit, ngl). It also gives Dream another example for his list of “problems that were NOT caused by me”. It ALSO allows Dream to paint Quackity in a bad light, especially in Tubbo’s eyes. Quackity’s plan is most likely going to seem nonsensical, completely unnecessary, and not at all peaceful to Tubo (rightfully, in my opinion, I know he wanted recognition for El Rapids as it is now, ig, but it really helped Dream a lot). This is very useful because as of right now Quackity had replaced Tommy as one of the only people willing to/anywhere near successful at standing up to Dream.
In the end, Dream is manipulating other members of the server, and presenting himself as a peace keeper to achieve his end goals! In most parts of the plot, Dream clearly does not actually care about peace (or at least actual peace, instead of just controlling everyone). He advocated for chaos last season and escalated the Tommy situation when George was ready to compromise. He really wants control. I do believe, however, that he believes that is what’s best for the server (still not sure if he cares about people or not, but he definitely seems to want what he thinks is best for them). That’s why he’s constantly telling people that they don’t know what they want essentially, like telling George he’s not actually sad about not being king, or telling Tommy he’s being overdramatic. Because he believes he’s doing the right thing for them and for the server and if they don’t see that then their views have been clouded by emotion and they’ll come around eventually.
