Plot Bunny has crossed my path. So I was listening to Ep 2 of High Brow, Mina Le's podcast and towards the end she starts discussing the differences between acted sex scenes and RL sex and I stopped the moment I heard 'intimacy coordinator', which I know about to some extent but never gave it much thought.
So back in 2020, the last thing I submitted to NH2020 was an actor!Naruto AU and then I got distracted by a new direction for it that I didn't have the setup for, so I just gave up on it.
My idea was centered around this one image in my head, that Hinata as a makeup artist has a intimate moment doing some makeup magic on his facial scars and that's literally all I wanted to write but still wanted to build up to it more.
Okay, the plot bunny! Before I forget it!
What if Hinata and Naruto are both new actors (and I guess Tsunade could be their intimacy coordinator), and maybe Jiraiya is the slightly sleezy director that gets ahead of himself and Tsunade has to reel him in from his 'moments of genius' and Naruto also feels really bad for Hinata during this part in the movie and does whatever he can to make her comfortable/protect her dignity, etc.
That's kind of it. Just the inner conflict of getting through that scene together and the external conflict of showbiz (on some level).

One your asks inspired this thought of out me.
Idk if Icebergs are still popular, but does a NaruHina Fic Iceberg post sound fun to you?
Basically, there's like 5 or 6 tiers (there should be a template readily available in google images) and you assign specific media (in this case, NH fics) to each tier, descending from tame tho troubling to 'stare into the abyss'-level awful. 😅
I'm just super curious now, haha. 🤪 Baiee~
I worked on this for a couple of days! Fun~
Tumblr media
uhhh click for hopefully better quality?
The order of the fics within each category sorta matters to me, but if I thought about it harder, I'd probably change things around, so the order's not that important. And in general, the categories go from NaruHina getting hurt, to NaruHina hurting others, to NaruHina hurting each other. With a few exceptions! But if someone else were to rank this, they might categorize things differently.
It's all just my feeling. As you can see. By the category titles.
Congratulations to Sessakag, Sadistic One, BlackMajjicDuchess, and DemonOfTheFridge for scaring me the most hahahahahaha 💀
Looking at this and one would think I love freaky stories lol
I read it for the curious cat to be killed.
I have all the stories linked below :)
Darkly Mysterious, Worrying 😥
“White Kunai” by @magmawrites - Rated E, Canon-Divergent AU, Multi-chapter, Complete. A series of violent rapes and murders targeting long, dark haired, young women have caught the attention of the Hokage. Her plan? Use a qualified, long, dark haired kunoichi as bait. The only one that fits the criteria? Hinata.
“a home is a dream” by bluebeardsbrides - Rated M, Modern AU, One-shot. Naruto Uzumaki returns home with all the force maelstrom, three days after her husband’s disappearance and six years since she went and stumbled on Neji’s body floating in the creek downtown.
"Dark Shift" by brown phantom - Rated M, Canon-Divergent AU, Multi-chapter, Incomplete. After a solo mission goes horribly wrong, something happens to Naruto. His mask of happiness turns dark and cruel, and he turns against the village he had sworn to protect. Can he be returned to normal before it's too late?
“Distorted Minds” by Cheating Death - Rated E for graphic violence, Canon-Divergent, Multi-chapter, Complete. Her lavender eyes slowly opened, her vision blurry and distorted for a few moments as she tried to look around. It was then that she realized that she was suspended a few inches off the ground, her wrists cuffed in cold, metal shackles that hung from the ceiling.
Disturbing, Unsettling, Cursed 😶
“Asylum AU” from “Tales of Two Ninjas” by magmawrites - Rated M, Modern AU, One-shot. What’s to say what’s real and what isn’t? The only thing that’s valid and true in all universes is their love for one another.
“Burn The House Down” by @secrettastemakerland - Rated G, Canon-Divergent, One-shot. Naruto shrugged, not really having an answer. He had tried to tell her they had bigger problems.
"Go Home, Start Again" by @bunny-hoodlum - Rated E, Canon-Divergent, One-shot. My submission for NH2020 February's theme "Time Loop".
"Stay" by @nightowl27-writer - Rated E, Modern AU, Multi-chapter, Complete. The basement holds much more than ashes and secrets. As urban legends come to life, people begin to disappear, and a city sits on the brink of disaster. Weird, Shocking, & Crazy 🤪
“His obsession” by agitosgirl - Rated M, Canon-Divergent, Multi-chapter, Incomplete. Naruto loved her, he loved her with everything he had and more. And when he gets back from his training trip, he’s going to show her how much he cherishes her. And she is going to be with him. Whether she wants to be or not isn’t really her choice.
"Qui Laudavit" by Avelona-and-Sally - Rated M, Canon-Divergent, Multi-chapter, Incomplete. One side-effect of having a demon sealed in you is a taste for blood. Another is the ability to make living and dead alike do your bidding. Which comes in handy when your girlfriend keeps dying.

She tried to fight her feelings not noticing that a certain senpai has had his eyes on her…
“There’s a new psycho on the block” by agitosgirl - Rated M for mentions of sex, Canon-Divergent, Multi-chapter, Complete/Inconclusive Ending. What happens when it’s Hinata who’ goes crazy? Years of torment and abuse by her family’s hand have caused this young girl to lose her mind, and to top it off, her mother left her a gift that will make her enemies, or just anyone she chooses to target, regret meeting her.
"Lost Souls" from "NaruHina Month December 2022" by @sessakag - Rated M, Canon-Divergent, One-shot. They set off on a journey that’d one day bring them back to their place of birth, and on that day, they’d enact the plan that had given them a sense of purpose.
"Ravenous" from "NaruHina Month December 2022" by sessakag - Rated E, Modern AU, One-shot. “Hinataaaa,” Naruto pouted, leaning inside the open bathroom door, “you ready yet? I’m starving!”
Explicitly Appalling 😨
“Side Effects” by Cheating Death - Rated E for smut, dub-con, & non-con, Modern AU, Multi-chapter, Complete.  You can easily skip the rape and non-con without compromising the plot, the author warns you before it happens. When Naruto and Hinata decide to participate in a high-paying clinical study, they wind up signing up for much more than they bargained for.

Seriously Distressing 😰
“Powerless” by bunny-hoodlum - Rated E for a lot of things, like depictions of violence and character death. Multi-chapter, Incomplete. His family’s past can’t be taken at face-value, and it comes clawing back to hurt him in ways that are out of his control.  DELETED FIC.
“Listen To Me” by SullyR - Rated E and includes domestic abuse & non-con, Modern AU, Multi-chapter, Complete. Hinata is terrified out of her mind. She has no choice but to listen to him or else he gets physical, and by physical, she means fast!
“Nightmare” from “Nice Legs, Daisy Dukes” by Star-Child-Yeci - Rated M, Canon-Divergent AU, One-shot. “Why do you got that in your hand, huh, pet?” The words slid off his tongue, and she shivered.
Chapter 6 from “Naruhina Oneshots” by @powerful-niya - Rated E, College AU, One-shot. A new college student finally enrolls into her new school, with the help of a handsome blonde male. He helps her and cares for her which she appreciates very much. But bad rumors about him break out and eventually reaches the midnight blue-haired woman making her feel skeptical about their friendship. But cutting ties is hard, especially with a guy who already has you, under his boot.
Wtf Horrifying 😱
“Monster” by Sessakag - Rated E, Canon-Divergent, Multi-chapter, Ongoing. Naruto, a celebrated war hero, finds himself, once again at the forefront of the fight, but which side is he on this time? Love. Tragedy. Happiness. Heartache. The growing pains of becoming a man, have molded, shaped and brought forth a new Naruto Uzumaki.
“Insanity” by Sadistic One - Rated E for GRAPHIC MURDER, College AU, Multi-chapter, Ongoing. The smell of his cologne and slight musk was the first thing that caught Hyuga Hinata’s attention. She eventually found out that smell belonged to a young man named Uzumaki Naruto. Ever since that encounter, she couldn’t stop following him and watching his every move. She needed to know who he hanged out with, his hobbies likes and dislikes. She even transferred to his school to study him more closely. But as those months went on, she discovered Naruto was not who he portrayed to be to his peers, but a cold-blooded murderer. Is this enough to put a stop to Hinata’s obsession or will it draw her closer to her own insanity?
“Breeding Season” by BlackMajjicDuchess - Rated E and has rape/non-con, Canon-Divergent, Multi-chapter, Complete. Completely out of pattern, Kyuubi leaks free and causes terrible destruction that Naruto cannot suppress. There is a solution, but it comes at a terrible price.
“Honeymoon” by DemonOfTheFridge - Rated E and has rape/non-con, Canon-Divergent, Multi-chapter, Complete. Naruto always left on a secret mission once a year for a whole month. A curious Hinata finally had enough and followed him to an underground house. A house she finds herself trapped in, with a dark Naruto. Curiosity Killed the Cat.
This was so entertaining! If anyone agrees or would order things differently, let me know~

Naruhina - Save My Soul -NH2020
For Naruhina2020 March (Bodyguard AU) and April (Celebrity AU)
A/n: Re-posting this long oneshot after major edits. I’d blundered previously when I posted this with huge chunks of old drafts attached at the end, smh. If you have read this story before, please ignore this post.
Rating: Mature
Warning: Modern AU with RTN Hinata and RTN Naruto
-
Hinata knew how some people have fetishes. She never thought she had one. Until that moment.
Wait. Would it still count as a fetish if she found that particular body part extremely sexy and distracting on only one specific person?
Sitting in the back seat of her chauffeur driven customised Maybach, Hyuuga Hinata could not take her eyes off of the large manly hands of her bodyguard who was sitting in the front passenger seat. Her nipples puckered and rubbed against the lace of her bra under the short black dress, as flashes of those very same hands skimming over her body, played through her mind. Especially how his long fingers had pinched and thrust into parts of her anatomy that had made her scream and tremble in toe curling pleasure. Involuntarily, her thighs clenched together at the reminder.
She had to force herself to look away from the man who was absolutely unaware of how his mere presence was wreaking havoc on her mind and body. Not even the constant chatter of her relatively new, chirpy assistant Matsuri, who was sitting right beside her, could pull her thoughts away from the self destructing path she was seemingly on.
Get over it, get over him, she told herself.
Uzumaki Naruto did not want her. He had made it clear. That one particular night, exactly nine days back, had been etched, engraved and embossed into her brain, was supposedly a slip-up on his part. A rare moment of weakness, was how he’d labelled it.
He was her bodyguard. Nothing more, nothing less.
So why did her body yearn for him? Had she imagined the explosive chemistry they had shared in bed? Was she not his type?
The whole world assumed that being a young famous singer-songwriter, she had more men in her life than she could handle. But little did they know that all through her existence, she had been left sorely disappointed by the men who truly meant something to her.
-
As soon as she entered her suite at the hotel, she flung her crystal studded killer heels to the side and made a beeline for the well stocked mini bar.
She had only had a few cocktails at the lavish and exclusive birthday bash of a world renowned, award winning artist, at his sprawling mansion in the outskirts of the city. Usually, she preferred to be in control of her senses at these events. She absolutely hated the idea of other people witnessing her in a weak moment.
It was probably one of the very few traits she had inherited from her now-estranged father. Her already precarious relationship with her only living conservative parent blew into smithereens when she decided to pursue her dreams.
But that topic was a terribly sore spot for her, and she did not even want to think about it. The only thing she wanted was to drink herself to numbness, now that she was back in the security of her room. Just so that, she could stop feeling unwanted and unrequited emotions and just drift off to sleep.
She could hear Naruto stepping inside the suite, but she willed herself to not glance back at him. He would sleep on the sofa bed in the living room like he had done the night before.
He had been hired by her label’s President to protect her. After she had, apparently, irked quite a few psychopathic, batshit crazy fangirls of the famous rockstar Sabaku Gaara. Just because they had casually dated for a few months last winter. They went especially haywire when the man had written an entire song about her and had openly admitted to it in an interview.
Their relationship ended prematurely, but the threats became progressively scarier and outrightly morbid. That’s when Naruto was taken on board from an elite security organization. He was to protect her, accompany her everywhere for the foreseeable future and always stay within reach.
Lucky her.
Hinata picked out a small bottle of red wine on impulse and carried it to her room. She shed down to her lacy underthings and poured out a generous amount of the merlot into a bulbous glass.
Taking it to her ensuite bathroom, she began wiping off her makeup in preparation for bed. The process had become so common for her, she was lost in her musings while doing a perfect job of stripping her face bare.
Refilling her glass again, she lifted it to her lips, when it was snatched away. The harsh tug of Naruto’s fingers made her gasp and spill some wine on her chest. She had not seen him enter her private bathroom.
“What the fuck are you doing?!”, she snapped at him. “You spilled wine on me!”
His gaze flickered to her wet cleavage before he looked away. With his jaws clenched, he poured the drink into the sink and looked at her with a less than pleasant expression.
“You should know better than to drink irresponsibly. Matsuri has already reminded you that you have an early morning meeting with Mr. Senju. The last thing you need is a hangover.”, he uttered those words with a straight face. He tried his best to seem unaffected.
She forced a smile on her face. “I can’t sleep without getting myself drunk. Unless you can think of another way to tire me out. That might just help.”
She was shamelessly coming on to him, but at this point she could care less. Or it was probably just plain ol’ liquid courage.
“Go to bed, and count sheep, for all I care.”, his voice was steady but she could see the inkling of desire in his azure eyes.
She wanted to egg him on, and brought her hands to the front clasp of her bra. “Oh, come on, help me out a bit. Just one more time.”, she was almost playfully begging him now. And she knew she would take whatever he would throw at her. It probably went against feminist ideals, but she was never this weak for another man. She needed him like no one else. Why did he not get that?
“Don’t you want me again?”, she propositioned him and unhooked the wet lace bra to tempt him further.
But before he could get an eyeful for her naked heaving chest, he turned around to walk out of her bathroom. She could only laugh, while her heart squeezed painfully inside at his outright rejection.
“You’re such a pussy!”, she commented mockingly to goade him further.
And lo, behold, it made him stall at the door. His fists were clenched at his sides, but he did not retaliate with words. Just when she felt a sliver of doubt that he would walk away, he swung around and marched over to her, capturing her burgundy stained lips under his hungry ones.
She moaned audibly at the surge of passion in their liplock, it positively made her giddy. His hands pulled and pressed her body against his, before cupping her perky round bottom and lifting her up against him.
Hinata squealed into the kiss at the sudden change of altitude, but she did not dare break away from him. She needed him so badly that she grasped at his short hair desperately to gain leverage and rub her core against his hardening length.
She heard him groan out loudly and then he pulled away from her lightly bruised, swollen lips, as he joined their foreheads and continued what she had started. Holding her from her bottom, he pushed her against the nearest wall and started thrusting upwards for some desperately needed friction. The silk of her panty was really thin and flimsy, and the ridges of his jeans gliding over her most sensitive point was delicious.
“Yes!”, she cried out. “Naruto… Please!! Don’t stop…!!”
Her hoarse pleading made him curse out loud. Abruptly, he her away from the wall. But instead of taking her to the bedroom like she had expected, he stepped into the large glass walled shower.
Unceremoniously, Naruto pulled the tap handle and the shower sprayed them with really cold water. She screamed as the icy water fell on her skin, instantly cutting off the heat of their encounter.
“F*ck! What the hell?!”, she scrambled out of his grip and out from the chill of the water. “What was that for?”
The cold spray had drenched Naruto, by the time he turned the supply off.
“That was me trying to act on the shred of rationality left in me.”, Naruto said seriously while rubbing a hand across his hair. She shivered and wrapped her arm around her naked chest.
“Oh, for f*ck’s sake, do you have to be so rational all the dam* time?!!”, her voice echoed against the walls. “What’s wrong with you??!!”
He slipped out of the shower cubicle and threw the nearest dry bathrobe at her. She quickly pushed her arms through it to cover herself. Doing what he did was humiliating enough, especially after she had literally begged him to take her.
“Call me old fashioned, but I prefer my women sober in bed…”, he replied with a snort.
“Oh just stop with that holier than thou attitude… I’m barely tipsy… You’re the one who’s got his panties in a wad for no reason.”, she let her frustration speak through with zero filter. “Seriously, have you ever let yourself get carried away by your instincts? Instead of being so dam* uptight 24/7?...”
“Oh, I’ve tried it… Look where that got us…”
“You say it as if it was bad for you…”, she followed after him into the bedroom.
“That is beside the point… You, Miss Hinata Hyuuga, are my employer… It is inappropriate for us to sleep together...”
“It’s a little late for worrying about appropriateness, don’t you think?!...”, her voice was laced with sarcasm. “Surely you realise that or have you lost your memories while perched on your moral high horse?”
Naruto gritted his teeth and glared at her with icy blue eyes. “I haven’t forgotten anything… But I have more self respect and pride than repeating my mistake of being your rebound hookup.”
She felt hurt by his accusation. “Is that what you think? A rebound?... Gosh, Naruto... I have been over Gaara for months...”
“Well then, what else is it??”, he demanded.
She was tongue tied by the abruptness of his question. What was it?
She was crazy attracted to him. She cared for him. She wanted him to do unspeakable things to her. She wanted to do similar things back to him. But that was as far as she had thought.
Seeing her speechless, he nodded curtly. “That’s what I thought.”
He moved away from her before her muddled brain could make a sense out of the deviation their conversation had taken. Naruto picked up his wallet, blazer and keycard before walking towards the main door.
“Get some sleep… Please… I will be right outside.”
Hinata could not utter the right words to stop him. Even if she desperately wanted to.
-
By eight o’ clock next morning, Hinata was seated in an upscale rooftop restaurant that was famous for its breakfast menu. Mr. Senju was notorious for being an early riser, and he believed in using as much of the daylight as possible to conduct profitable business.
Clad in a flowy lavender maxi skirt, a white lace crop top and a pair of comfy birkenstocks, Hinata was half heartedly listening to Mr. Senju. Her mirrored sunglasses provided her the perfect ruse to hide her tired eyes and also to frequently glance over at Naruto, who stood a few feet away, where he had the perfect vantage point of the whole setting.
Matsuri sat beside her, jotting down important points that were discussed. By the end of the meal, Hinata had agreed to lend her voice to a character of a big budget animated movie that would be produced by Mr. Senju. Few remaining details would be ironed out by her label before she would sign the contract.
“Then I’ll see you back in the city in two weeks, Miss Hyuuga.”, Mr. Senju shook her hand. “It was a pleasure meeting you. Have a good day!”
Hinata smiled widely and bid him goodbye.
“Wow… That was definitely worth losing a few hours of sleep…”, Matsuri commented.
Hinata nodded listlessly, and nibbled on the poached eggs. She would have certainly liked Naruto to join her at the table, but he had maintained the cool aloof demeanour from last night. Like they only worked in a professional capacity.
Hinata could not openly make any grand gestures towards him because the restaurant was decently filled with posh clients.
From behind her shades, she had even noticed more than one woman staring in the direction of the tall figure of her bodyguard. And it lit her with jealousy. It was absurd. She had no claim over him, but she wanted to gorge the eyes out of any woman who so much as second glanced at him. Curiously, she had never felt this possessive about any of her past boyfriends. Not even Gaara, who the craziest female fandom their music industry had ever seen.
Speaking of the devil.
Gasps and murmurs filled the air, as Gaara Sabaku waltzed into the establishment like he owned the place, with his manager right behind him. Most patrons were affluent enough to not stumble out of their seats to approach celebrities for an autograph or selfies. But there were quite a few heads turned and much interest shown, when the red haired rockstar made a beeline for her.
“G-G-Gaara!”, she squeaked and flushed uncomfortably. Hinata was amused to see her so flustered. Especially, when she was quite unaffected by the famous actors and singers at last night’s bash.
Hinata got up from her seat to greet her ex-boyfriend.
“Hinata… What a pleasant surprise to see you here…”, Gaara spoke fondly as he engulfed her in his arms.
Hinata was a little taken aback by his enthusiasm, but she let it slide. There was nothing wrong with acknowledging an old friend or acquaintance with a genial hug. But she noticed the way Naruto had become stiff and alert, standing a few feet away from them.
“It’s nice to see you too Gaara… Weird running into you here… What are you doing so far off from the city?”, she asked him casually.
“Same thing as you. I made it to the party a little late last night… My flight got delayed on my way back from Seoul… By the time I got there, you had left…”, he explained.
“Ah, yeah…I was feeling a little tired…”, Hinata replied. She felt a little uncomfortable by Gaara’s attention, so she deviated from their conversation. “Gaara, this is my new assistant Matsuri… Matsuri, this is Gaara… You might know him….”
Gaara nodded at her nonchalantly before focusing back on Hinata. “How long are you here for?”
“Umm… Just for tonight.. We will be driving back to the city tomorrow morning…”
“That’s great! We must have dinner together tonight. Especially when we are both staying at the same hotel.”
Hinata was quite surprised at his invitation. She could see from the corner of her eyes, Naruto got closer to them and stood behind her protectively.
Was he jealous? Or was this a part of his job?
“I’m not sure that’s a good idea Gaara…”
“Come on, it’s just dinner… I won’t try to kiss you or anything… Unless you want to, ofcourse!”
Hinata fixed him with a mocking glare. She had separated from him on amicable terms. He was not keen on her suggestion of breaking up. But as a free spirited musician himself, he loathed the idea of binding her to him against her wishes. So he let her go. Now, even the thought of having dinner plans with him seemed to hold no attraction for her. Deep down, she realised the reason why.
“Haven’t we had enough problems because of our past? Being seen together again in public would be asking for more trouble.”, she tried to reason with him.
“Fine, if that’s your worry. How about you come over to my suite? We can have a private dinner where no one can see us.” Gaara glanced at Naruto and added, “You can even have your guard installed outside my door to keep an eye out for you.”
She really wanted to decline his invitation without seeming rude or uptight. But it seemed a little difficult now, with Gaara being insistent and the eyes of other patrons of the restaurant on the two of them.
She lowered her voice and replied, “How about I think about it and text you back?”
Gaara smirked and nodded. “Okay. Remember, I will be hoping for a yes.”
He flicked her chin lightly, like he used to do when they were back together, and moved towards his reserved table.
With that, Naruto suggested they make a move out. He trailed closer than ever before, and kept a light protective hand on her back while the few paparazzis outside clicked furiously. She wondered if Gaara’s invite had spurred this extra protective and possessive streak in him. The idea of making him even more jealous appealed to her. But she absolutely hated toying with people to play games like that. She wanted him to want her back without any underhanded tricks in play.
Once back inside the car, Matsuri asked incredulously, “You are not seriously thinking about going out with him, are you??”
Hinata rested her head back and watched Naruto for any sign. He did seem a little stiffer than usual, even as he was busily texting someone on his phone.
“Technically, it’s not ‘going out’... More like ‘dining in’... But I haven’t made a decision about it. Yet.”
A full minute later, her phone pinged and she took it out to read the new text message, thinking it might be from Gaara.
‘For your eyes only. Make sure no one is peeking into your phone.’
It was from Naruto. When she raised her head up, she saw Matsuri trying to inconspicuously peek at the text. She understood that Naruto might be trying to communicate with her without Matsuri knowing about their recent past.
“Who was that?”, she asked nonchalantly.
“Uh, no one.”, Hinata lied easily.
Seconds later, another message popped up. This time she was careful about not letting wandering eyes stray over to her phone.
‘I have to warn you about something. But what is most important is for you to NOT panic. Matsuri has a carving knife in her bag. She picked it up from the restaurant. Beware. Do not engage her in any conversation about Gaara. I have alerted the police, we will get you to safety soon. Just keep calm. You will be fine.’
Hinata grew pale as she finished reading the text. Why would Matsuri pick a knife? Slowly, the pieces fit together, and she realised that her new assistant was one of the psychopathic fans of her ex-boyfriend.
“Was that Gaara?”, Matsuri’s suspicious voice broke her trance.
“Umm… No…”, she replied faintly and looked outside the window to hide any signs of distress on her face.
“I think meeting Gaara again would not be good for either of you.”, her assistant kept talking.
If Naruto had not warned her, she would have snapped back at Matsuri and given her a piece of her mind. And that would have been disastrous. She looked to the front and found Naruto looking back at her. He gave her a small reassuring nod.
“If he thinks-“
Naruto interrupted her just as she spoke. “We’re almost here. It will be ideal for both of you to discuss this in the privacy of the suite, while I run a small errand.”
Soon the car stopped, Naruto jogged out to open Hinata’s door.
“You did good. I am here with you, don’t worry.”, he muttered close to her ears.
Hinata felt safe in his presence and she had to stop herself from leaning into him. The trio moved through the hotel lobby that seemed quieter than usual. Matsuri did not suspect a thing, but she raised an eyebrow at him when he joined them in the elevator.
“I thought you had an errand to run.”
Hinata understood that she was trying to get rid of Naruto to confront her in the suite.
“I do. I just need to grab some papers from my suitcase.”, he lied easily.
As soon as  they entered the suite, they were confronted by the police who were waiting for them. Matsuri turned vicious when her plan was foiled. She tried attacking Hinata even with so many officials around, but she was easily tackled by Naruto.
“Stay right where you are!!”
Soon, she was handcuffed and dragged away, but she kept hissing and cursing at Hinata.
“B*tches like you don’t deserve any love!! You f*cking wh*re!!!”
Hinata was aghast watching the complete switch in her personality. It was chilling to realise that someone who harboured ill intentions for her was kept close.
Her sight turned blurry as she stood rooted to her spot. Whether they were tears of relief or shock or exasperation, was anyone’s guess.
Naruto dealt with the police officials quickly before he went up to her. Wordlessly, he gathered her in his arms and hugged her tight.
“I don’t know why I am crying… I am not a crybaby…”, her words were muffled by his suit jacket.
“It’s okay… It’s okay to feel the way you do...I’m right here for you.”
But she shook her head and looked up at him. “How did you realise…”
Naruto explained his observation of Matsuri’s expression when Gaara came into the restaurant.
“It was somewhere between shock, awe and fanatical lunacy… And when he kept his attention solely on you, she looked vengeful… Both of you were too busy chatting to notice the stark change in her demeanour…”
“Oh…”, she pondered over the events. “So, that was why you stood close to me… Because of Matsuri… Not because you were jealous?”
Naruto sighed and lifted her face up to him. “I was jealous. Extremely so. But even in that moment your safety was my priority.”
Hinata looped both her arms around his neck. “Oh Naruto….About yesterday-“
“Don’t worry about it.”
“No… Let me say it… When you asked me about what you meant to me… I was unsure of how I could put my feelings into words… It might not be love yet, but you are so much more than a rebound… No, actually let me rephrase that… You are nothing like a rebound… I feel very very strongly for you…Honestly, I always keep thinking of you, my eyes keep looking for you... So much so that I’m afraid it might turn into an obsession.”
He smirked and leaned his forehead towards her. “Are you sure that’s not the after effects of the traumatic event talking?”
She grabbed him by his lapels and mockingly glared at him. “Don’t make fun of my feelings for you. I know what I want. Besides, I would hardly call this encounter traumatic. It was shocking and a little scary, but I can get past it. I’m stronger than you think.”
Naruto nodded and looked away from her gaze. “And you are sure you don’t mind that we have almost nothing in common… I mean, you could do much better than me.”
Hinata rolled her eyes at him, “You sure like doubting yourself for someone with so much pride and self respect.”
He just shrugged, “Just putting it out there… Fair warning… I am not easy to get rid off… So I just want to cover my bases…”
“That’s strange…”, she replied with a frown. “I was going to give you the same warning.”
“There’s one thing common between us then.”, he commented before asking. “Shall we seal the deal with a kiss?”
“Only a kiss??”
-
Over the next few days, Naruto and Hinata received several phone calls informing him about the development of the case against Matsuri. She had confessed to all accounts of threats and intention to harm but pleaded not guilty citing mental instability.
x
Note: Apologies for the very late entry. And also I would like to apologise to fans of Matsuri, she was portrayed negatively in this story, but I assure I have nothing against her! If anything, I like to feature her as Hinata’s friend in a lot of ny other stories.

NH2020 I KNOW THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT BUT I NEED HELP!!!!!!
So, like it says in the title, I really need help in finding a fanfic that I read and thought i saved but then later found out that I didn’t even bloody save it on phone so now I’m utterly disgusted with myself...
Anywho, seeing as it is a NaruHina fanfic, I’m selfishly putting it out there under the hashtag NH2020.
Please do help a dumb bitch out.
The story goes a little something like this... (runaway love, runaway love. lol. sorry couldn’t help myself. if you know, then you know, niqqa.) Anywho, Hinata becomes a member of the Akatsuki not by choice but by the decision of Sakura leaving her behind cos of a mission gone wrong. Naruto tries to go back and rescue Hinata, of course, but Sakura stops him with some needle-thingy, and then takes off with him over her shoulder. Naruto hates Sakura cos of what she did, she left a comrade behind, but he doesn’t tell the rest of K12 instead he stays away from Sakura vice versa. Time goes by, and Hinata has been tortured by Itachi, she’s now quite formidable. She goes back to Konoha and wants her revenge on Sakura. She wants to kill her. Now, Naruto and Hinata they like each other but Hinata hates Naruto when he interfers with her hurting/trying to kill Sakura. The only reason why Naruto keeps stopping her is because if she kills Sakura she won’t be able to come back as a Konoha shinobi, although she is helping Tsunade at the moment of her being in the Leaf.
So yeah, that’s what I can remember of it.
Please, if you guys have any clue on what I stated then tell a bitch. I will forever love you!!!!!!!!!

“Untitled” for NH2020 May “Jealousy”
No one prepares you for the first fall.
Nor the vice around one's heart, the kind that feels like you'll never be the same again if you don't remove it right away.
Naruto was twelve when he became vaguely aware of these concepts, that growing into himself -- whomever that was -- meant dealing with new aches of every severity, shape and sharpness, and removing them like the spiny seeds that clung to his sherbet-orange sweater.
Naruto stumbled out of the bushes, urgency bouncing inside his skull like pachinko balls.
Glancing down at his appearance, he wrapped his hands in his sleeves and swiped at the burrs, only to come away with palmfuls of them.
Throwing his head back, he growled in resignation.
He's been coming here after school for the past two years, ever since they moved from the prefecture north of Hi no Kuni's capital.
This particular sight, though familiar and ordinary, has evolved inside his mind. Once a green ocean to frolic across, the large sports field now resembles an emerald moat around a castle of a high school.
He sprinted across the grass, up the slope and onto the dirt path lining the perimeter. Bypassing the wash sink and the enormous gymnasium, he dashed into the outside corridor between buildings and entered the main school.
From there he made a beeline inside, his black Randoseru bouncing against his back with every step.
Here and there were older kids, boys in their black slacks and buttermilk yellow sweaters, girls in their black skirts, black socks and yellow sweaters. Some wore their red ribbons, others wore their loose or completely undone, or none at all.
Gone were their curious, mirth-filled gazes and amused whispers. Well, for the most part.
"Hey bud, you look like you'd been swimming in sea urchins." said one boy in passing, pointing his finger.
"Yeah, yeah! I know!" Naruto hurried along, his lips fluttering with an exaggerated sigh.
That aside, these teens they paid him no mind, as if he were one of their own.
Because they knew exactly where he was headed.
Naruto reached the Staff Room and pushed the slide door open. Instantly he attracted the eyes of the other teachers, their faces lighting up at his presence.
The first one to greet him was a woman with a brown bob parted from the center, with dark kind eyes and purple eyeshadow.
"Oh, Naruto-chan's here! My day is officially brightened!" said Nohara-sensei, one of the Home-Ecs teachers.
"Hey, what about me?!" interjected an Uchiha her age as he gaped at her in betrayal.
Nohara-sensei's smile remained unchanged.
Adjacent from Uchiha-sensei at the foot of the combined faculty desks, the silver-haired Hatake-sensei greeted him with a two-finger salute, his bored gaze glued to a thin book laid atop his stack of graded assignments.
Amongst these three were four other teachers, one of them being his dad.
"Naruto! You're early today!" His father said matter-of-factly as he spun halfway in his desk chair.
"Yeah! That's because--"
"Excuse me, Namikaze-sensei?" Her voice twinkled like the dreamy dulcet tones of the Kalimba, the air playfully plucked with each clear syllable.
Time slowed down, yet his heartbeat jumped and ran off, like a spooked horse after getting spanked in the buns.
The reason why he's early… The reason is...
His father's attention shifted a foot over his head, a cordial smile taking place. "Oh, Hyuuga-san! Those are the propositions for our Culture Day theme?"
"Yes, Sensei." The owner of that voice crossed the threshold, her gaze falling over him for a moment, and when she smiled at him the world grew quiet beneath the swishing of blood in his ears. And when she beheld him, her eyes curved as though her cheeks were swelled with love, and the only colors that existed were hers.
Hyuuga Hinata circled around the island of desks to hand in the stack of papers, and Naruto watched how his father interacted with one of his beloved students, and how she interacted with him.
Of course his father didn't act the way he does with his wife around his student, but somehow Naruto had to make sure.
And his father was a popular man no matter where he went, no matter where he worked. It never took very long until a new Namikaze-sensei Fanclub established itself, so Naruto had to see if she wasn't one of them.
They spoke and spoke but the topic never strayed and their eyes maintained the same friendly regard.
And yet, wordlessly, in the back of his mind he wondered.
If he stared hard enough, would she look his way again?
She excused herself with a small bow and with delicate precision, she strode towards the door, their business completed.
But as she left the Staff Room, she did not look at him again.
Naruto squeezed the straps of his Randoseru, the aches growing stronger around his chest.
"Naruto," His father called out to him. "I'm afraid I'm still going to be here awhile longer. What did you need?"
Naruto flattened his lips together then transformed his chagrin into a cheery beam.
"I just wanted to see you, Dad."
His father furrowed his brows and hummed questioningly, inciting Naruto to conjure a new excuse.
"Also... there's a new figurine I want." He rubbed the back of his head for extra credulity.
"A figurine? You haven't played Gashapon since you were ten." Even so, his father began to dig around for spare coins in his pants pocket. "What changed?"
Naruto wove around to approach his father. Minato furtively surveyed his son's appearance, the frown pretty much saying 'I've told before to stop going through the bushes', but it was faster for him, the walk to the front entrance taking him an extra ten minutes if he did.
Presenting his empty palm, Naruto accepted the coins and idly counted them to give himself more time.
It looked like just enough for a can of 200% Sweet Café Au Lait, rather than a vacuous plastic figurine.
His father was still waiting for an answer.
"Uhh," Naruto pocketed the coins into his back pants pocket. "I just found one that I really, really want, that's all."
Rin watched Naruto exit the Staff Room, her smile broader than before.
"Naruto-chan is getting cuter everyday." She mused.
"Hm? What is that supposed to mean?" said Obito, a trace of a whine still in his voice.
"Did you see his face when Hyuuga-san arrived?"
Minato lifted his head up from his paperwork, trepidation and intrigue washing over him like a chilly waterfall.
"I know exactly the meaning of that face," Rin continued, her gaze sliding over to Obito whose ears reddened knowingly. And Minato was beginning to connect the dots, though he didn't want to. "Naruto-chan is lovestruck."
_____________________________________
Later that night over dinner, Minato was quiet. Which wasn't particularly unusual when his beloved wife and son always had so much to say.
He loved their vivaciousness, how they seemed to boil over with attitude and excitement at even the smallest source of happiness, never dimming, never tiring. He loved listening to their stories.
"-- And the ball bounced off the goal and smacked Sasuke in the back of the head, and he face-planted the grass!"
"So that's what happened!" Kushina was in tears. "Mikoto called me asking if anything happened at school today."
"What did he say?"
"He told his mother he lost in a fight against three older kids!" Kushina clasped a hand over her mouth, he features scrunching up as though her laughter could escape from her eyes, and Naruto broke down into laughter with her.
Minato's gentle smile pulled up higher, and yet that familiar warmth in his face and thumping in his chest suddenly came with pangs.
But now Minato was looking at his son as though he were shining at a brightness never witnessed before.
Like a TZO hybrid star.
This love that he felt for Kushina hasn't changed since their middle school days.
And with great melancholy Minato imagined that these same feelings were growing inside his son.
_____________________________________
This was one of their rituals.
Minato washing the dishes while he handed them off to Kushina to dry.
It was an easy way to speak amongst themselves like two lovers.
"Is everything alright?" Kushina said as she wiped down a plate and added it to the drying rack beside her.
"Naruto likes someone."
"Huh?! No way! How could he not tell me?!"
"Shh!" Minato threw a glance out the kitchen entryway which lead into the living room. Naruto's blond head could be seen beyond the couch where he sat by the low table, transfixed by the prank show on tv. "He didn't tell me at all. Rin figured it out."
Kushina's shock quickly curled into a sly grin. "Did she now? Well, I wonder who it could be."
Minato grimaced. "She figured that out, too."
"What?! How?!"
Indeed, how? Rin had no business in any other school but theirs. Had Naruto being crushing on a fellow classmate instead, Rin's obtaining of knowledge would certainly be more interesting than the knowledge itself.
Minato propped his elbows against the sink and slumped forward, his hair nearly grazing the froth of dish suds.
Minato couldn't bring himself to say.
It wasn't so much respect of his son's privacy than it was his inability to accept the situation.
"He's growing up too fast."
A beat of silence hung between them before Kushina responded with loving circular strokes along his back.
Minato was the last person you would ever hear gripe nor whine, so this was rather serious.
Kushina then grasped her husband's shoulders and pressed herself against his back and held him.
He slowly angled his head towards her, temple kissing temple and they breathed in their mutual resignation that, yes, Naruto would soon no longer be a child.
No more childish fixations and hobbies, no more innocent observations that made him laugh, no more boundless curiosity where he had all the answers not the internet, no more theatrical 'labor strikes' in demand of an increase of allowance or a trip to the waterpark because Sasuke made it sound like a paradise.
None of that.
He could begin working as early as fifteen if he so desired.
He would afford his own fun, possibly sneak around when his sense of curiosity matured.
Rather than the reward of sharing and impressing his dear old dad, he'll be seduced by the appeal of secrecy and keep things to himself.
He won't desire his father's opinion on anything. At that age, teens believe they know what's best, so they trust themselves above everyone else.
Independence like that is inevitable.
And whoever in the future accepts his feelings, they'll have every part of his son that he’s lost, and Minato isn't ready for any of that.
Kushina chuckled lightly before giving him another supportive squeeze.
"Looks like someone's jealous."

Summary: Naruto and Hinata join the Twelve Guardian Ninja of the Land of Fire’s Daimyo.  (But not really.)  Their mission is to smoke out the rat among them who’s selling political secrets to insurgents, while making sure the other Guardians don’t figure them out.
Neither can tell when their acting became so convincing.
A fake relationship canon-divergent AU.  Rated E for eventual smut (we're still not there yet).
Written for NH2020 March - Bodyguard Theme (....it's been a solid 3 years)
Chapter 4: Kiss Him Again II
As they get nearer to the daimyo’s room, she takes a deep breath.  She just has to act normal.  She can at least do that.
She pulls her attention up off the floor to face her fears.
And her heart nearly jumps into her throat, seeing his gaze fixed on her.  She swallows her nerves down, readying herself to greet him, when she realizes…
He’s not exactly meeting her eyes.   His gaze just marginally lower…
His focus, possibly on her mouth, flicks back up.
It was only a couple of seconds, but she’s rendered speechless.
He tips his head in quiet acknowledgement.  “Morning, Hinata.”
Her heart’s enflamed hotter than the heated ghost of his skin on her lips.  Somehow, breath travels through her throat, and a “Good morning” makes it into the air between them.
He’s not really smiling, his head tilted slightly, shyly?, not at all like his usual self.  He lingers a moment, as if waiting for her to say something more, but she can’t.
So he gives her one last look before turning around, heading back to their room, leaving her to wallow in worries and hopes.
-
When she finally, finally gets off an excruciatingly long shift with Taiyou, a guy she’s seen too much information of, she doesn’t know whether to be thankful or nervous.
All of her wondering about what Naruto’s thinking makes her limbs feel like jelly.  Each step she takes, closer to the bar where the rest are watching the live broadcast of the First Round, makes her feel tingly all over.
But she has to stay alert, remember that this is still a mission, and that, of all people, her mission partner should really be the least of her concerns.
She’ll be fine.
They’ll be fine.
And she’ll be fine and they’ll both be fine, and he’ll think she was just acting, and it’s not going to be a big deal, and they’ll both be normal, right?
-
He knows he’s not being normal.
He knows he’s rarely ever what anyone would qualify as normal, but he thinks that this time, he’s quite justified.
What Hinata’s been doing to him this whole mission is far from normal.
Well, maybe for her it’s normal, maybe Kiba and Shino always get this kind of special treatment?
He hates that.
It’s not fair at all that they have had someone like Hinata building them up all this time.  Maybe if he was on her team from the start, he’d be desensitized, too.  They probably don’t value how amazing it is to work with someone like her.  They probably don’t care after so many years with her, and who knows, maybe Hinata’s given them kisses...too...
When she comes into the bar, he can’t help but wonder, were those kisses his to keep?  Or were they never his to begin with?  Was she just acting last night?  And if so, if so…  how far am I allowed to act?...
He’s staring at her, and out of sudden realization that she seems slightly on edge, he manages to smile and gesture beside him in the booth.  “Hinata, here.”
She nods, appreciatively sitting down.
“Good work,” Eizan customarily congratulates them.
“Thanks,” Taiyou says, immediately turning to call the waiter over.
Hinata nods.  “Thank you.”
Eizan begins filling them in on all of the different teams, who the hopeful genin are, what villages they come from, what the public knows of their abilities so far based on their last names and clan specialties.
Hinata tries to be attentive.
It’s not easy with Naruto’s “casual” glances at her.
If she were any less aware, if she didn’t have such sharp and observant eyes, if she wasn’t already so self-conscious about him in the first place, maybe she wouldn’t notice.
But she does her best to pretend that she actually doesn’t notice him watching her in his relaxed pose.  No matter what he’s thinking, now is not the time to address it.  She focuses as much as she can on showing interest in Eizan’s conversation.
Even as his arm comes reaching around behind her, the nerves at her lower back spasming with apprehensive anticipation of his touch.
He doesn’t touch her, his hand somewhere on the seat behind her.
If she leaned back just a bit, she would touch him.  It feels like every year of maturation led up to this moment, taking every moment of experience to keep her features schooled, her temperature as even as she can.
...No, actually, she can’t handle how nonchalantly close he is.  She looks up in silent, reluctant confusion.
He meets her questioning gaze with a small smile, and after a second, she relaxes.   His focus returns to Eizan, but internally, he can’t help feeling like he passed a test.  It’s not like he’s being overly affectionate.  He’s just...trying this.  They’re a “couple” after all, so if he never gets close to her, wouldn’t that be weirder?  This is better, right, in general, for the purposes of their mission?
-
An hour into the broadcast with numerous teams of genin disqualified, and he’s feeling really nice.
She gradually leaned back a bit, then a bit more on his arm, her head now resting back on his bicep, almost on his shoulder.
It wouldn’t take much more to circle his hand to her hip, but he won’t, not while she seems so comfortable, like she trusts him completely enough to relax in his company.  His heart feels light and squeezed by something soft, happiness so gentle that it hurts.
The bar is crowded with viewers, booths just like theirs full of groups of friends cheering or criticizing the progression of the exam.  Half his attention is on the television, half his attention is on giving his own noisy commentary, and the other half is on Hinata’s reactions.  He knows his fractions are off, but there’s no brain left to do any figuring.
He can’t stop smiling.  Her weight on his is a rare intimacy that he doesn’t for the life of him want to disturb.  He can feel the shake of her shoulders when she laughs, he can feel the texture of her hair when she turns her head slightly, he can feel the tensing of her back if something on the program excites her.
He doesn’t know where the time goes, but too soon, the first stage of the exam finishes, and talk turns to what everyone plans on doing next.
Eizan downs the last of his beer.  “I have a few friends in the other guards, I’d like to try to touch base with them, see how they’re doing.”
“You’re friends with the other countries’ guards?” Hinata asks with honest astonishment, and Naruto is suddenly reminded of yesterday, when Eizan mentioned the bloody history between The Land of Lightning and The Land of Fire.
He still needs to talk to Hinata about that.
“Yeah,” Eizan responds.  “Once you’ve been traveling enough on diplomacy trips, where the daimyo just sit around all day drinking and gambling together, you get to know the other guards fairly well, too.”
Taiyou nods.  “We’re all just standing there watching our lords lose most of the time, so it’s generally a bonding experience!  It truly is international relations.”
Hinata giggles in that way of hers, the muscles at her back jumping against his arm, and Naruto can’t help glancing down to catch her smile.
“You two don’t have to join us,” Taiyou adds.  “You should go check out some of Kumogakure’s attractions!”
“Oh, um, I don’t know, we wouldn’t mind meeting them, too.”  She straightens in her seat, and he follows, just to close the distance between them again.
Taiyou seems to ignore her as he continues, “Kumo has some really great natural onsen…museums, scenic points…movie theater…”
Eizan leans forward, eyes squinting at them.  “When was the last time the two of you went on an actual date .”
“A date?”  They both repeat his words unthinkingly, and when Hinata looks up at Naruto wide-eyed, she sees that he looks just as flustered as her.
Taiyou’s making loud exclamations of pity and disbelief, verging on ridicule, and Naruto starts trying to lie for them, “W-we’ve been on dates…we-”
“With all the extra freedom of moving out of Konoha,” Eizan interrupts, “you’d think that the two of you would have spent more time together, but I guess we’ve been pretty busy since you guys joined.”
“U-uh, yeah…” Naruto utters, and Hinata’s so glad that he already established their hidden relationship backstory.
But also, that corners them into an awkward position with their undercover mission.  Either they insist on going with them to meet the other daimyos’ guards at the risk of looking like a strange couple that doesn’t want to spend time alone together, or they go on a date, further fortifying their backstory.
Or…they can agree to go on the date, but actually spend the time spying.  She can feel heat rushing to her cheeks, but she forces the words out anyway.  “A, a date would be nice.”
Naruto stares at her, and she bites her lips before turning to look him in the eyes.  She feels so flushed, but she smiles tentatively, wondering if he understands her intention.
“Yeah.  It would be…”  His quiet agreement is a relief; it seems that the longer they do this, the easier it is to lie together.
But as soon as Eizan and Taiyou leave them out of earshot at the entrance of the bar, she hears the familiar, soft poof of a Kage Bunshin.
She turns around to see two Narutos looking at her nervously.  Before she can ask why, he answers.  “We haven’t had a chance to talk-”
She does not want to talk about why she kissed him!!
“-and so I was thinking my clone can follow them, and we can…”  He looks away, and his obvious discomfort makes her feel guilty.
She can’t look at him either.  “...Okay.”
He leads them out away from the side street, their walk seemingly aimless as she struggles to find an explanation.
She can simply tell half of the truth: that she didn’t want him to feel badly and she didn’t want Eizan or Taiyou to suspect them of lying about their relationship.  But she thought maybe Naruto didn’t mind it.  He was acting quite close since she joined them this afternoon, and it seemed he understood that they’ve been trying to act…like a couple.
What will he say?
Why would he choose talking about her shameful act over their responsibility in this mission?
In her silent stress, she follows Naruto into a nearby park.  It’s not grassy at all like in Konoha.  Instead the path twists among interesting rocky outcrops and strategically placed benches that are shaded beneath the shadows of towering stone.  In the center sits a giant memorial honoring Kumo shinobi.
Sitting down on the nearest available bench, she finally voices her concern.  “Naruto-kun, is it really okay for us to not be tracking them right now?”
“Oh.  I’m sure my clone is fine.  If he wasn’t, he would’ve dispersed.”
His self-confidence should’ve been expected.  And she realizes, she’s confident in him, too.  So really, her doubt is entirely self-serving.
Seeing her dark expression, he quickly adds, “Maybe the timing’s not too great, but we really haven’t had a moment to ourselves, and I’ve wanted to ask since yesterday, just I don’t know if you’ll be comfortable with talking about it, but as your…friend, I feel really bad that I didn’t know anything, I mean, if you don’t want to talk about it, we can just go back.”
Sorting through his rushed words, she remembers Eizan’s reveal yesterday.  Before she kissed him.  “Oh, you mean…”  She peers at Naruto and recognizes the discomfort in his expression isn’t embarrassment, but concern and shame.  “You mean when I got kidnapped...”
He nods.  “...Can you tell me about it?” he asks as kindly as he can.
“Mm…yeah.”  She breathes in, then out, letting her focus flit into the past.  “I was….three…”
He hears a story of political and family strife so bewildering, so disgusting, that the devastation in her expression is one he can physically feel in his own face.  A heat of loss burning behind his eyes, the injustice against Neji a rage at his fingertips, but there’s nothing for him to do about it.
This was all years in the past.
Kumo changed.
The Hyuuga clan has changed, too.
Hinata’s already forgiven, clearly, but she hasn’t forgotten.
He sits speechless beside her as she pats the tears from her eyes with her handkerchief, as she sighs and gives him an exhausted, tightlipped smile.  “Please don’t be upset, Naruto-kun.”
He nods, still trying to swallow down the grief knotting his throat.
“We’re…we’re all working toward a better future.”
He nods harder, emotional and moved.  “I promise, Hinata, I promise to make it so.”
“I know.”  Her quiet affirmation is sure, a strength that he’s borrowing from her in this moment, fueling him in motivation.
“Telling me everything…thank you.”  He didn’t know what he was expecting to hear, but it’s almost the opposite of his mother’s kidnapping in terms of the…ending.
She gives him a stronger smile.  “I hope you didn’t feel too badly about not knowing yesterday.”
“Yeah, I get that you don’t really tell anyone about it, but, I’m supposedly your boyfriend, right?  So I’m supposed to know these things, right?”
She seems to kind of shrink into herself, her gaze cast low.  “Then, it’s the same for me, right?”
“Huh?”
“You mentioned, yesterday, that your mother was kidnapped, too?”  She blinks up at him carefully.  “Will you tell me about it?”
“Oh.”  He suddenly and inexplicably feels like his bones are turning to jelly, and he wonders if Hinata felt this way about sharing personal secrets, too.  “Yeah, sure…”
He’s shared parts of his past with others several times before, but never like this… Never so…calmly?  To take this chance to connect just because good friends should know each other a little better than just the present circumstances…  To be quietly sitting together, to have Hinata listening, and…to tell a story about his family that he’s never told anyone, not Team 7, not Iruka, no one.
He details that time when he was with Killer B and Yamato.  Years ago now, but everything his mother told him is still vibrant in his memory.  Even though her chakra is long-gone from his seal, she left him with something even stronger.
A love that solidified him.
One that he’s never had the opportunity to share about, until now.
“She even talks kind of like me!”
“Oh, wow,” she sighs warmly.  “That’s so amazing that you were able to learn so much about her.”
“Yeah.  I never thought that I’d ever know who she was.  I wish I could’ve talked to her longer.”  He still has so many questions to ask her, so many wonderings about who she was, what her likes were, what her dislikes were…
“I think..I know what you mean… My mother passed away from an illness when I was young.  I really wish I could see her again.”
He’s known for as long as he’s known Hinata that it’s always been just her father and sister, and he doesn’t think he’s ever heard her talk about her mother.  “How old were you?”
“I was…four?  So I have a hard time remembering what she was like.  Hanabi doesn’t remember her at all, but at least we have a picture of all of us together when she was an infant.”
Concern knots his mind again.  If she was four, that means her mother passed only a year after she was kidnapped.  Putting together the timeline of Hinata’s childhood reveals a lot more about her than he was expecting.  “…I’d like to see the photo sometime if you wouldn’t mind?” “Oh!  Okay.”  She turns a small smile at him.  “When we return to Konoha, I’ll show you.”
“That sounds good.”  He smiles back, and for a moment, they sit in silence together, watching people walking through the park and enjoying the rocky scenery.
Everything on this extended mission has been so different from his life in Konoha.  This trip to Kumo emphasizes it.  He misses home a lot, but even if this is work, he’s still enjoying himself a lot more than he thought he would.
He glances down at his partner, and seemingly sensing his gaze, she looks at him, too.
“About four more months,” she murmurs.
“Yeah.”  If no one does anything fishy, it’s still a long time before their paid surveillance period ends and they can return.  “Do you miss home?”
Her gaze drifts, the look in her eyes far away.  “Yes.  I miss my family and everyone else.  I wonder how they’re all doing.”
“Hmm, yeah, it’s too bad that we can’t write to them, even if we’re undercover as ourselves.”  The chances of a letter returning to them that asks about how much longer their “mission” might take are too high of a risk.  They can’t let anyone possibly realize that they’re not here of their own volition.
Thus, the secrecy.
And the feeling that they’re effectively cut off from their previous lives.
“You must miss Ichiraku.”  Hinata’s knowingly smiling, peering at him from the corner of her eyes.
“Ha ha!  Yeah.  I haven’t had any decent ramen in so long!”  He gazes off into the distance, like he can practically see the steaming broth and noodles out there somewhere and sighs as dramatically as he can.  “Just you wait, Ichiraku!  The first thing I do when I get back home!  Is eat ramen!”
She laughs, “That sounds good!  I miss Ramen Ichiraku, too.”  Her stomach knots with apprehension at what she wants to say next, but she manages to look him directly in the eyes and say it anyway.  “You’ll let me join you?  After our mission report?”
Round, clear, hopeful eyes look up at him expectantly.
That fuzzy, pillowy feeling smushes around his chest.
He’s smiling so hard, giddiness burns a path up his calves to his cheeks.  “Of course!  It’ll taste even better with you there!”
She blinks at his bright smile, one she’s never seen directed at her with such dazzling power.  She knows she was probably blushing before, but now, she’s certain of it.  She fidgets on the bench, tightening her elbows to squeeze at her own sides, just to hold herself together.
“I mean, food always tastes better with friends, but, Hinata…”  He feels warm and open.  He feels close to her in a way he hasn’t felt with anyone besides his own team.
Something deep and real.
He’s looking for a word that encapsulates this experience, and looking at how she’s smiling with him, happy with him…  “You’re so refreshing.”
Her heart feels so full, she worries she’ll burst.  “...I am?”
“Yeah, Hinata,” he laughs.  “This mission would suck if not for you.  Can you imagine?  Me spending months like this with Shikamaru?  What a drag,” he mockingly imitates, and he grins upon seeing her bite her lips and hold in a laugh.  “Or me and Kiba?  We’d be at each other’s necks, just fed up with each other after one week!  Shino, or worse, Rock Lee?  Me and Ino?”  He comically widens his eyes and he can see her trying to picture it.
She finally shakes her head.  She knows that Ino didn’t particularly like Naruto at the Academy.  She’s not sure if her opinion of him has changed much since then, but she knows that they’re not exactly the closest of friends.  “Well, I’m sure you would’ve liked an extended mission if it were with your Team 7 members, right?”
“Ahh, well…”  Of course he’d love to go on a mission with Team 7.  It may not happen ever again.  “I miss having everyone together, but, this is a two-person mission, right?  So, as fun as it would be if it were me and Sasuke, I just can’t imagine it happening.”
With his mood suddenly dropping, she leans a little closer, wondering if he’ll share with her what he means.
Seeing how serious she suddenly looks, he quirks a smile at her.  “You know what he’s like.  I’m always trying to get him to stay.  He never does.  And, just imagining him and me, doing this mission together?”
She tilts her head in confusion, and he realizes that maybe Hinata doesn’t know much about him and Sasuke, or anything much about Sasuke at all.
“Okay, so, you know that I had a really hard time accepting this mission at the beginning, right?”
She nods, remembering Naruto’s obvious animosity toward the daimyo.
“I’m pretty sure Sasuke would hate him even more than me.  That and Sasuke just doesn’t get along with many people, I mean-”  He makes an exaggerated grimace.  “-Sasuke would probably get everybody to distrust us, not like you!  You make everyone put their guard down around you!”
She frowns.  Starts to nod.  She guesses she can see that happening.
“I didn’t like this mission at the start.  I don’t particularly enjoy sneaking around and being secretive.”
She nods, she understands that this mission isn’t Naruto’s style.  She’s still surprised that the Hokage chose him for this in the first place, but she guesses that the daimyo specifically requested Naruto’s service and paid a good amount of money to justify it.
It’s a little disheartening to know how much he didn’t want to do this.
But even if he’s not enjoying himself, she’s selfishly glad that she’s here with him.
“I didn’t like the idea of having to be away from Konoha for so long, or for needing to pretend that I don’t want to be Hokage.”
She nods, keeping her focus on her knees.
“Having Sasuke here would have made this a thousand times more excruciating because we’d both be, I don’t know, going crazy from boredom, we’d probably be trying to goad the others into revealing themselves just so that we can get some excitement out of this!”
She gives him a small smile, trying not to assume that he’s implying that he’s bored on this mission.
“We’d also probably be trying to kill each other every other day.”
She lets this strange comment sink in, and she lets her confusion show on her face.
He laughs.  “He’s my best friend, but that’s just how it is!  And well, that’s kinda just how Team 7 is!  Sakura’s always about to kill me…  We’re both always about to kill Sai… but sometimes, I swear he’s asking for it, Danzo’s upbringing or not, no one can be that socially stupid.”
Goodness, she knew that Team 7 was different from her team and she remembers seeing Team 7 interacting before, but even on missions?  Are they that high-tension, that it’s “Even on missions?”
“Yup.”  He tightens his lips into a frown.  “Of course when it gets down to the moment, we pull ourselves together and we’re awesome, but uhh, yeah!  That’s how we are!  And honestly, I wouldn’t have us any other way.”
Seeing her process all of his ranting and raving reminds him of why he got onto this tangent in the first place.
It was to explain to her…
“That’s why you’re so refreshing, Hinata.”
Her gaze settles back on him, and he can’t help smiling at her look of surprise at the turn of topic.
“I’m actually enjoying myself!  Whenever we get to meet and talk like this, it’s fun.”  Strange heat fuzzes around his face and chest, and she’s been listening so intently to him with that glowy look on her face.  He’s suddenly reminded of how she kissed his cheek, and his eyes reactively pull away and up to look at the streaks of pink in the darkening sky.  “Um, we never argue, you know?  You’re always really nice, and I feel like we work well together, and…”  He knows there’s more to this.  “You’re just really, really nice, and I feel like you’re always there for me…”
He remembers her jumping down between himself and Pain.
He remembers how she stayed strong for him when Neji passed.
And reactively, he looks back down at her, her gentle gaze bright under dark lashes, and that deathly fear for her safety briefly flares before settling tightly in his chest.
“I’m really, very happy that we get to work together, too.”  She shies away from his intense look and focuses on her knees again.  “I really enjoy being with you.  I have fun when we’re together, and I like listening, and um, learning more about you.”  She bites her lips and slowly dares to look up at him again.
That nervous feeling trembles within him, that overwhelming sensation of too much of her attention, and it feels precious, dangerous, it feels exciting, and he waits.
“You’re always really nice, too.  And I, I want to be there for you, so I’m glad you feel that way.”  She suddenly recalls kissing him on the cheek, and she can’t believe she’s going to say this, but he’s not recoiling, he’s not rejecting anything she’s said, he’s listening quietly… “You really are the best guy I’ve ever met.”
His voice feels plugged in his chest.  Her breathy words burn his face, and he looks down at his knees just like her.  Stifling, humid heat wraps around his neck, arms, and legs despite the cooling air of the approaching evening, and he’s suddenly sweating profusely beneath his jacket.  “You’re…”  Something akin to glee buzzes at his cheeks, and he flashes a glance at her.  “...the best-”  He’s never compared her so intentionally to other girls, to his ex-teammate, yet what he wants to say still holds true.  “-girl I’ve ever met.”
Hinata stares up at him, allowing her wonder to show apparent.  A part of her wants to ask if he means it, but she knows that Naruto always speaks his truth, always tells it like he sees it, and hope blossoms full.
His shy, affectionate smile is so beautiful, she can barely look at him.  “Hinata.”  His voice around her name is quiet and lovely.
She’s never experienced him like this before.  Soft and wonderful.  This happy fuzz dazes her, and it’s his fingers sliding over her hand, hooking with her fingers, his tentative touch that forces her attention back up to his eyes.
A ruddiness tinges his cheeks, and she realizes he’s blushing.
She’s blushing, she knows she is, she always is, but he is, too.  He’s not looking away, he’s not distracted, she has his full attention in a way she never has before.
Words she’s demonstrated in action, words she’s tried to substantiate ever since she confessed three years ago…they linger on the back of her tongue, they form weight and grow heavy.  I love you.  Naruto-kun, I’ve loved you-
He draws his hand off of hers, and his gaze shifts slightly up, away from her eyes, up to the visible stress on her forehead.  “What’s wrong?”
She blinks.  She breathes.  “N-nothing.”
The tremor in her voice.  The sudden shift in her open expression to one of nervousness.  It’s clear to him that he overstepped, and he clasps his errant hand.  “I didn’t mean to-”
She grabs his hand, pulls it into both of hers, into her lap, and she doesn’t know how he can possibly be ignorant of her feelings, but her hesitance to confess was enough for her to know that she’s still not ready to make it clear.  “Thank you, Naruto-kun.  Y-you encourage me so much, and I, I didn’t know what to say.”
He stares at his hand.  His throat feels stuck.  That pinching in his chest, that smothered, smushy, cottony feeling that he’s come to associate with Hinata leaves him lightheaded, giddy, antsy.  Enclosed in her smaller hands, his own hand is happy.  He squeezes back, his fingers wrapping around her hand, and it’s right.  It’s perfect.
This friendship with Hinata.  It’s unlike any other.  He’s closer to her than anyone else in his life right now, and he doesn’t want this moment to end, he hopes this special feeling lasts forever.
He’s never felt like this with anyone before.
Air manages to make it past the knot in his throat.  “Anytime.  I’d be happy to encourage you anytime, Hinata.”
Her smile, her hands, her closeness at his side.  Her words from just a minute ago, the stroke of her thumb along one of his knuckles.  This moment is real, not acting.
So those little kisses from yesterday?
A disorienting thickness pinches in his gut, and he squeezes her hand harder for it, a silly smile threatening to wiggle out across his face.
He knows they were his to keep.
