So there's no polite and non-disgusting way to phrase this, but I'm currently in A&E at the hospital with bad rectal bleeding. Been happening for 4 days in a row now, and the nurse who I spoke to on NHS111 couldn't believe I'd gone into work with this and to hospital right now, so here I am 😖.
Hopefully it's something simple like a heameroid, but they are very concerned at how much I am actually bleeding meaning its more likey something more serious, so need to get it check out right now.
That's means I'm going to be probed where I've never been probed before, I am NOT looking forward to this.

I'm the forgotten NHS worker
As everyone prepares to give a round of applause to the doctors, care assistants and to the nurses of the NHS for their hard work and for still being on the frontline through this virus, I want to give a round of applause to the forgotten NHS workers. The domestics and the cooks. The ones with no medical experience but still do their absolute hardest to give a duty of care to patients. The domestics who have to ensure everything is deep cleaned and risking their health to clean the bedrooms, the toilets, sinks, floors. The cooks who work hard hours to feed the doctors, nurses and most importantly, the patients through all of this. The domestics and cooks who still have to come into work and don't get time off like other cleaners and cooks in restaurants and schools.
They also deserve your round of applause
So just remember, this Thursday on the 26th, give a round applause to the domestics and cooks. Because they too are risking everything to come into work and ensure your loved ones are well fed and in a clean, comfortable environment.

I'm not giving you the finger, I promise. So sorry I have been MIA lately. I have had a LOT goin on behind the scenes. On Monday I was admitted to the @queenvictoriahospital for emergency hand surgery. I suffer with #raynaudssyndrome and one of the complications of that is if I have any cuts etc on my fingers they are more prone to infection. Well long story short, I have been battling with a numb, cold and blue finger since early April and have been begging the #NHS to deal with this as a priority ever since. Despite a course of stong antibiotics, an A&E visit, multiple GP appointments, referrals to two vascular surgeons in two hospitals, blood tests, many #NHS111 calls and finally a trip to #CaterhamDene urgent care centre, a full on infection developed on the side of my finger. Over the weekend the infection worsened causing me to literally lose my rag at the hospital which resulted in finally someone listening to me and trying to resolve this issue holistically. They referred me to the #QueenVictoriaHospital who have 🤞🏾 sorted the issue. I may be missing a nail, but hopefully the infection is gone. It's gonna need dressings for a couple of weeks but I'm hopefully on the mend x Huge thank you to all the staff at #QVH especially Catherine & Tracy from Rowntree and Gina from Ross Tilley Ward. You are each a real credit to the #NHS #lifeistough #lifeupdate #livingwithraynauds #circulation #qvh #kathenry #handsurgery #QueenVictoriaHospital #mia #myfinger #inthewars (at Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQe6DnHJbsL/?utm_medium=tumblr

Welp. Spent the end of new years day in A&E. I'm fine, home and safe, and with an exciting new symptom to add to my fibromyalgia bingo sheet: shooting pains in upper arm, armpit, and back!
Being a afab boob-having person, any shenanigans involving the armpit and boob area is a cause for concern. Especially if it gets slowly worse over 48 hours 😫 NHS111 agreed, and so I was off to see a doctor at the Urgent Care department at 9pm.
Despite being a very busy A&E night, I was home by 11pm clutching a big packet of codine and anti nausea pills (codine makes me sick).
Lovely doctor was lovely, and diagnosed a pinched or trapped nerve in my upper arm / armpit area, most likely due to muscle tension (apparently my shoulder muscles are like an ironing board 🤔), all of which is likely caused by, and made more painful, by fibromyalgia.
I was also gently scolded for a) not taking painkillers often enough, b) putting off contacting 111 and told not to ignore symptoms just because I'm used to being in pain, and c) not requesting a female doctor (I mentioned my PTSD and admitted I don't usually let men anywhere near me, but was too freaked out and also not wanting to cause difficulties cause Covid).
It's been quite a while since any medical practitioner was kind and understanding and took my health conditions seriously, and I can admit I nearly cried a bit.
Anyway, home and safe, mildly drugged, and not doing anything for the next few days. All in all, fun times!

it’s not just guidelines that are being ignored for NHS staff but testing too, the friend I work w who has all the symptoms got told she wouldn’t be tested as the priority is for patients at risk not staff, and the doctor she spoke to through nhs111 yesterday also had the same symptoms but was told the same thing and that he could consult over the phone for the helplines
this is so not funny it’s funny

Reclaim statutory sick pay (SSP) for Covid-19 absences
Tumblr media
Small employers can now reclaim statutory sick pay (SSP) paid to employees who were absent from work due to the Coronavirus. The online claim service went live on 26 May 2020.
Employers can use the scheme to claim back SSP paid to an employee who is eligible for SSP due to Coronavirus if:
they have a PAYE payroll scheme that was in operation on 28 February 2020; and
they had fewer than 250 employees at that date.
Qualifying absences
Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) can only be reclaimed where the employee’s absence relates to Covid-19; where the absence is for another reason, the employer must meet the cost of any statutory sick pay (SSP) paid. An absence counts as a Covid-19 absence if the employee is unable to work because:
they have Coronavirus;
they are unable to work because they are self-isolating because they live with someone who has Coronavirus symptoms; or
they are shielding and have a letter from the NHS or GP telling them to stay at home for at least 12 weeks.
Claims can be made for periods of sickness on or after 13 March 2020 where the employee has Coronavirus symptoms or is self-isolating because a member of their household has symptoms and for absences on or after 16 April 2020 where the employee was shielding.
Maximum claim
The employer can claim back the SSP paid in respect of qualifying Covid-19 absences up to a maximum of two weeks’ SSP per employee. Where the employer pays more than the weekly rate of SSP, rebates must be claimed at the SSP rate — £95.85 per week from 6 April 2020 and £94.25 per week previously.
Evidence and records
Employers do not need to get a Fit note where an employee is off work due to Coronavirus. However, you can ask for an isolation note from NHS111 where the employee is self-isolating or a letter from the NHS or the employee’s GP where the employee is shielding.
Records should be kept of the dates of absence, the SSP paid to each employee, their National Insurance number, the reason for their absence and, where provided, evidence in support of their absence. Records should be kept for three years from the date that the rebate is received.
Making the claim
Claims can be made online on the Gov.uk website. To make a claim, the employer will need:
their employer PAYE scheme reference;
contact name and phone number;
bank details (where a BACS payment can be accepted);
total amount of SSP paid to employees in the claim period in respect of Covid-19 absences;
number of employees in respect of whom the claim relates; and
the start and end date of the claim period.
Claims can be made for multiple periods and multiple employees at the same time. The end date of the claim is the end of the most recent pay period for which a claim is being made.

New Helpline Goes Live To Support People’s Mental Health
PRESS RELEASE | 06.04.2020
Local NHS Trust, Cheshire and Wirral Partnership (CWP), has launched a new mental health helpline for residents of Cheshire West, Cheshire East and Wirral.
Open 24 hours a day, seven-days a week, it is open to people of all ages including children and young people who need urgent mental health support.
The helpline is part of the NHS Long Term Plan to improve access to mental health support. Originally due to go live next year, it has been fast-tracked to be available to support local people during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Suzanne Edwards, Acting Director of Operations, said: “I am delighted that we now have a dedicated local helpline for people with concerns about their mental health. The dedicated phone number: 0300 303 3972 should now be everyone’s first port of call for urgent mental health help in Cheshire and Wirral. It is operated by local NHS staff who can connect people experiencing mental health issues with the best local support.
“Launching a new service in such a short space of time, under the current circumstances, is testament to our very dedicated staff and I would like to say a big thank you to all involved. Having joined the team on one of their first shifts this weekend, I know they are already making a really positive difference to local people by helping those that need specialist support in a timely, person-centred way.”
What to do if you need urgent mental health help:
Please call 0300 303 3972 and our dedicated local NHS staff will support you to access the help you need;
The helpline is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is open to people of all ages – including children and young people;
The helpline is now the first port of call for mental health help – it is operated by people in your local area who will know how best to support you. If you call NHS111 you may have to wait longer for help and will be re-directed to this local service – so call 0300 303 3972;
Please note, A&E and 999 are not the best places to get help for the majority of mental health problems – call 0300 303 3972 to be directed to the best local service to support you;
You should still call 999 or go to A&E if you have an immediate, life-threatening emergency requiring mental or physical health assistance;
For non-urgent help and general wellbeing advice, the CWP website contains information and links to resources to support people with anxiety, low mood, and worries relating to the current Covid-19 pandemic www.cwp.nhs.uk
For children and young people there is also a dedicated website MyMind.org.uk

So the past few days have been hella fun because
On Wednesday night I started getting a really bad toothache, I thought I’d just been clenching my jaw and grinding or something, it happens, so I said fuck it, it will pass, and went to sleep.
Thursday I woke up and it was so much worse. Ended up crying and dozing in and out of consciousness because the pain in my mouth was so intense, was taking the strongest painkillers I have, couldn’t eat due to not being able to touch my teeth together without screaming, and was calling around all the dentists I could to try and get an emergency appointment. One said they would and said they’d call me back at some point that day.
So yesterday morning comes, I still haven’t heard from the dentist, and I wake up covered in blood :)))) SO I call NHS111 for advice and they can’t find me an emergency appointment anywhere either. I call back the dentist from Thursday and find out that I was never actually put down for a call back. So they put me down AGAIN, 10 minutes later I have the call back, I have an over the phone consultation, the dentist decides its probably an Abscess and writes me a prescription for Antibiotics, which I then have to walk down to the dentist to pick up the slip and then go get it filled which is fine.
I started taking the antibiotics once I’d picked them up yesterday, I’ve just finished my 3rd out of 15 total doses, and thankfully the pain has started to fade now and I’m no longer in a haze of pain and crying... but my FACE IS THE SIZE OF A FOOTBALL I’ve swollen up so much on one side that its actually hilarious. I’m also incredibly nauseous but thats normal with the antibiotics I’m on.
TLDR: I got an abscess in my tooth during a global pandemic where all the dentists are closed for safety reasons because sometimes my body just decides to be an asshole.
