Bayside harness all of their strengths with ‘Interrobang’—review
For those unaware, the interrobang is a specialized punctuation device. The mutant hybrid of a question mark and exclamation point articulates a way of delivering a query in an abrupt, interjecting way, usually powered by a rhetorical subtext. Back from Puerto Rico and refreshed! Here are a couple last minute live picks.
Bayside, Cobra Lounge
So what have Bayside been up to since the last time we previewed them? They’ve released Acoustic Volume 2, acoustic versions of many of the band’s best songs from the decade. They’re celebrating the release of the record with a full-band acoustic tour, which started last night and includes a stop tonight at the Cobra Lounge.

Meat Wave, Joyride Records
If you’ve read us for the past few years, you know we love the songs and shows of ever-ascending local heroes Meat Wave, having covered three different sets of theirs. Their last full-length release was 2017′s The Incessant, but earlier this year, they released two new songs, one-minute stomper ‘Shame’ and creepy slow-burner ‘Dogs At Night’. They’ve also recently released a split EP with Lifestyles; their contribution is the chugging, surf rock-meets-post-punk ditty “That’s Alright”.
Tonight, the band plays a free in-store at Joyride Records. Local no-wave band Ganser opens.

The first time I got to meet Bayside was at Vintage Vinyl on February 6th, 2007 (10 years ago today). Mind you, I never in a million years thought I would ever get the chance to meet them. I found out about the performance & signing, & I begged my mom to bring me. I got very lucky & she said yes. My dad works up in North Jersey, close to where the record store is so he preordered two albums for my brother & I & got our wrist bands. It was such a magical day. They were the most down to earth, raddest guys on the planet (& still are to this day). They all signed my copy of The Walking Wounded, a poster exclusive for the signing, & took pictures with me (I have one with each of them & a group shot from that day). & it was also the day my brother became a Bayside fan ☺ I have been lucky enough to meet them on multiple occasions since then, & I have since printed out the group picture & got them all to sign it for me. When they saw it, they remembered us. Bayside means the world to me. They are my favorite band (along with NFG) & they have helped me through my bipolar disorder through the years. They kept me sane whenever I was about to lose myself. They helped me vent out my frustrations & put a smile back on my face. Their music fit the rage I was feeling inside & Anthony's lyrics spelled out my emotions. A lot has changed since then, but Bayside will always be by my side. Thank you Anthony, Jack, Nick, & Chris for saving me & bringing me back to reality countless times. I wish I could repay you guys for all you've done. So thank you.
