An Afternoon of Death, A Morning of Kisses
The Old Guard, Joe/Nicky, rated teen for canon violence, 670 words, read here
On a lazy morning, Joe lets himself think back to the day they both died, and died, and died again, and muses on the idea of scars and what they mean to an immortal.
---
When they first met, Nicolò died first; fell to a particularly vicious slash Joe - Yusuf at the time - landed to his throat. Yusuf went moments later when Nicolò used the last of his strength to fell him with his sword. Lost in the memory, Joe turned his head to press an apologetic kiss to the back of Nicky's neck.
When Yusuf woke up, hours later, the battlefield was empty save for the corpses and the Italian man, staggering to his feet. He and Nicolò, driven to rage by their training, fought once again and Nicolò's sword disemboweled him at the same time Joe stabbed him with a dagger to his spine. In the present, with sunlight filtering through the window next to their bed, Joe bent his head and kissed the same spot, right between Nicky's shoulder blades.

I’ve got you.
For the prompt “protective”.
Does this still count as a doodle? Somehow it managed to break containment and ran away with me, but the prompt just hit a nerve, and I wanted to try doing it justice.
Thank you @lazaefair for the lovely prompt! 💕

— We are usually a better judge of character. I suppose you are taking us to the person who paid for your betrayal.
