Currently reading All for the Game for the first time. I’m on chapter 6 of the first book. Here are my current thoughts.

Neil: not overly Bright but very Smart; survival instincts an interesting combo of phenomenal and terrible; willing to be literally murdered to play a game; baggage is not designer nor vintage; yells in French for Dramatic Effect when he should’ve kept it a secret

Kevin: has exactly one passion and will die/kill for it; he and Andrew have Tension; he and Neil have Tension; would definitely hate him in real life but he’s currently the character I relate to most; don’t know what that says about my self-image; ornithophobic

Andrew: goblin; smol but I keep forgetting that because he is Big; interesting sibling dynamics; bad person? good person? I don’t know and neither does he; will commit murder; stabs as a warning; mom dead? buy car.

Aaron: judgy; Done with everyone; honestly I vibe with him but I don’t know if I like him???; honestly haven’t really figured him out

Nicky: gay; minor rapey vibes with his comments about Neil and Kevin but I hope he gets better; should apologize for those things; but otherwise cool; very welcoming to Neil which is refreshing; was there for the twins when they needed him which I appreciate

Wymack: so nice?? And like?? Aware of his team’s trauma??? And how his size/gender/appearance/attitude affects that????;gave Neil a home and a lock and a key and a chance and I love him; Dad; also Daddy; def dating Abby and I’ve only seen one interaction between them

Matt: Lovely; Precious; loves Neil; getting himbo vibes but we’ll see; dating Dan????; wants Love; waiting to find out his trauma….

Dan: badass; o captain my captain; first woman in NCAA exy???; hottttt

Those are all the characters I feel okay commenting on so far.

In conclusion: everyone is hot; many are problematic; this is a very complicated life Neil’s got; I want in on whatever Dan and Matt have; I ship Andrew x Neil x Kevin (only if they figure their shit out) and I’m getting major poly vibes and I’m poly so I want v bad plz give

-> an :; all jokes, this has been in my drafts for a while now and i never finished it because i was clearly on something when i first started it and never bothered finishing,, it seemed fitting as my final goodbye to the hq fandom as i’m only writing for tetsu now, so thanks hq fandom,, you were okay for the most part

atsumu x camilla cabello -> atsumilla

to put it short they’re both musty and musty people belong together. all it took was a jokingly sent feet pic into camilla’s dms and she was quickly packing her things to leave hers and shawn’s house. their first date went well, but camllia decided atsumu was a real keeper when she found out he was a great kisser! better technique than shawn and didn’t mind that camilla enjoys kissing like fish. he indulged in it and the two of them quickly drove other couples eating in the five star restaurant away with their... interesting displays of pda.

suna x kris jenner -> sunis

suna was actually aiming for kendall when he spammed the jenners on twitter, but these days kendall’s busy connecting with nature and getting herself into photoshop scandals so she never actually saw suna’s tweets. you know who did see his tweets though? social media’s hawk eyed kris jenner! kris thought suna was cute and he’s a lot younger than corey gambles who was her partner at the time. younger man = more media coverage which = more income into her bottomless pocket! when she first approached suna, he didn’t even care he hadn’t gotten kendall’s attention because his eyes were wide open and focused on her mother, milf kris jenner.

kenma x travis scott -> kenvis

kenma was happily logging on ready to stream on his youtube channel before he was hit with a copy right claim. it turns out he’d used ‘sicko mode’ in one of his fortnite streams and never gotten permission. thinking contacting the record label for permission seemed long winded, kenma shot travis himself a dm and travis fell hard! he thought kenma’s stoic face perfectly complimented his own and offered kenma permission and a dinner date and the two have been happy together since! these days kenma still streams but he helps coparent stormi with his lover travis while kylie’s busy slandering kenma and his stream on her instagram story between promoting her new line of kylie skin.

-ˏˋ sakusa kiyoomi ˊˎ-

sakusa x chrissy tiegan-> sakussy

the queen of twitter clapbacks and the king of twitter burner accounts, these two had beef on one of chrissy’s threads, but it turns out the two were just a case of the typical enemies to lovers troupe! chrissy was actually impressed with sakusa’s wit and callouts and the two of them slowly became a twitter stan duo! after finally meeting, sakusa explained why he used burner accounts and suggested chrissy do the same as she keeps getting blocked, now the two of them harass controversial celebrities and anti’s and have several burner accounts logged in to continue the argument after getting their main ones blocked. petty but hot of them.

-ˏˋ bokuto koutarō ˊˎ-

bokuto x oprah winfrey

bokuto made his raging crush on oprah no secret and has been dedicating each one of his scores to her on live television. oprah got tagged in so many fan cams made by his loyal fans that she just had to notice him. oprah saw bokuto as a marketing opportunity at first because come on, he’s the himbo to her girlboss, what a media pleasing couple! bokuto was thrilled when oprah invited him to meet but since meeting, oprah’s fallen hard for bokuto’s infectious laughter and she’s found herself feeling young and free again. bokuto is just happy he’s somehow cuffed a nice woman with a big ass.

-ˏˋ iwaizumi hajime ˊˎ-

iwaizumi x nicki minaj -> iwaicki

these two met when iwaizumi was in cali and he was walking out the gym. miss minaj had just come out from her own private session and iwaizumi just couldn’t help but notice what a great looking specimen she was. however, his face fell when he saw kenneth petty, criminal and nicki’s lover. iwaizumi knew kenneth was a bad match for nicki because hello? he’s a literal criminal and he’d never forgive himself if he allowed such a goddess to fall into the wrong hands when he knew he could treat her better. iwaizumi knocked kenneth out and proclaimed how well he’d look after nicki to her in front of her car and nicki couldn’t help but stan! herself and iwaizumi have been a happy couple since and any man that comes within a 5 metre radius of her is getting hard stares from him. truly a power couple.

-ˏˋ oikawa tooru ˊˎ-

oikawa x bryan tanaka -> oikyan

oikawa has had personal beef with mariah carey ever since she featured on his spread in volleyball weekly. he didn’t even know how she managed to get into it because the only sports she does is running and that’s only her mascara when a minor occurrence happens. he’s had twitter wars and been blocked on several social media platforms but he won’t stop until he’s satisfied. one night oikawa was ready to grow up and forget about it all until he ran into bryan, mariah’s boyfriend at a local convenience store. bryan was buying stuff that he’d tiredly said mariah had demanded and oikawa took this as the chance to finally get back at her for his highschool years. he told bryan not to bother and that he’d never boss him around the way mariah does. a tired, but grateful bryan gave in and the two have since found interests in gardening and guitar together leaving mariah scrambling to fix her tear stains before christmas just before her yearly relevancy comes back.

hq characters & what they’d be like as musical theatre boys - what they’re good at, what kind of shows they book, how they are to work with, roles they’d play, etc. | starring: sugawara, oikawa, bokuto, kuroo, tendou (+ tsukishima, kenma, akaashi)

for weeks my head has been full of hq!MT boys, inspired by over a decade of being a theatre kid, and @karasimpno has only enabled my debauchery. these are just a few of my faves, but i have more theatre boys where this came from so if this doesn’t flop maybe i will post more hehe

SUGAWARA [tenor] this bitch is SO talented it should be illegal and he books like crazy. nothing like a pretty soft boi with the voice of an angel in musical theatre <3 not really a dancer but moves very well, also can act the house down like you think he’s this basic MT boy but then it turns out this mf has range and is not afraid to use it. will go from playing the sweetest, most charming leading man to a complex, terrifying villain, and the whiplash will make you fall in love with him. a dream to work with, obviously. very strong with classical text as well. his ability is frankly terrifying and far too powerful. the type of boy you cold read with once at a callback and never see again, but playing opposite him for those 2 minutes is enough to make you think about him for the rest of your life

lucas in the addams family, anthony in sweeney todd, the princeton/rod or nicky/trekkie/bad idea bear track in avenue Q, the emcee in cabaret PLS

OIKAWA [tenor] let’s be real oikawa already has an MT personality and it’s the worst kind. he thinks he’s rachel berry but really he’s kurt. he still books though bc he’s pretty and sings like an angel~ he can move really well and his jazz/MT style dancing is very strong, can also tap a little but it’s like barely enough to get by. his acting is kinda mediocre but his stage presence is out of this world and he’s hot so it doesn’t rlly matter, he stays booking leading men & disney princes left and right. truly is very talented at what he does, he’s just so annoying about it and constantly fronting all these skills he does not have, like he keeps trying to put leading lady songs in his book in their original key which is just.... not what those pipes are built for girl. bringing a whole new meaning to the nickname “flattykawa”

fiyero in wicked, pippin in pippin, conrad in bye bye birdie, aaron samuels in mean girls, joseph in joseph & the amazing technicolor dreamcoat, just all the basic mt boy shit

BOKUTO [baritone, tenor, everything in between, HIS RANGE] an absolute star. all-around amazing dancer (those muscles aren’t just for show babyyy) but especially tap and partnering (imagine him just lifting u.. god) powerhouse vocals across the board, his diaphragm is insane. he’s the type of MT who is always yelling even when they aren’t on stage, not even aware of it he’s just loud asf. always spitting everywhere too. no one is safe. acting is probably his weakest point just bc he doesn’t have a lot of versatility style-wise, but in no way is he bad at it i meannnnn have u seen how expressive and energetic that man is?? he does literally any golden age musical comedy leading man soooo well and is a blast to work with, such posi vibes & the character choices his himbo brain comes up with are so silly they’re genius

don lockwood in singin in the rain, gabey in on the town, bobby in crazy for you, jimmy in nice work if you can get it, robert in drowsy chaperone, will in oklahoma!

KUROO [baritenor] one of those fuckers who started doing theatre by accident, and immediately started booking out the wazoo with no training because he’s naturally talented and hot. i hate him so much. has that “idgaf i don’t have to try” aura about him, but his work ethic is actually?? really good??? once he starts learning more he really does put the work in. has that feeling of ease in his stage presence & good instincts that make up for his lack of training, plus his vocals have no right sounding that good on their own wtf. fucker thinks he’s frank sinatra, and honestly, it’s criminal how good he is at golden age material when most of what he books is contemporary bc of his dumb hair he’s not exactly a dancer but like…. bitch can move. plus he’s got body so that helps him a lot. mostly books leads anyway because that’s just how it goes when ur a hotboy with charm and talent. also he can fieRCE classical text??!?? (hint: it’s bc he’s a nerd) just stop being talented already jesus

melchior in spring awakening, sky masterson in guys & dolls, demetrius in midsummer, BENEDICK IN MUCH ADO PLS I NEED IT FOR MY HEALTH

TENDOU [countertenor] kicks ass at everything like he’s so talented and so versatile. vocals are insane, he has mad range and can do any number of character voices/impressions/dialects/what have you. his falsetto is unmatched (nice try flattykawa). we been knew his instincts are killer - character acting, comedy, improv, clown, mime, devised/alt theatre, contemporary MT, golden age MT, classical text you name it he can slay it all. his resume is so chaotic. he can body a super intense scene too, i feel like he trained in meisner & got traumatized from it and for a while he had an issue with getting too into character & doing crazy shit bc it was “method,” but eventually learned better<3 excellent mover, used to be a trina ballerina so his technique always shocks people even though he’s been out of practice for a long time (the dance world can be toxic and he was over it, so he yeeted all the way out of there a while ago). all around a wild human being with the ability to transform into numerous other wild human beings, creatures, abstract concepts, etc.

beetlejuice in beetlejuice, almost any track in cats but especially mungojerrie, mary sunshine in chicago, the porter in macbeth, CALIBAN IN THE TEMPEST PLEASEPLEASRPKEASE

characters who have zero MT energy but still fit elsewhere in the theatre world:

TSUKKI is a sound tech who is mean to performers esp during sound check, has a particular vitriol against MTs (except yamaguchi)

KENMA is an ASM who rarely gives a fuck, also does lighting & projection design. doesn’t hate MTs like tsukki, but their energy is usually a lot for him so he tends to avoid

AKAASHI is a playwright & dramaturg, but he used to act and can recite shakespeare on a dime, sonnets, soliloquys, whatever ur heart desires <3 may also play an instrument and sometimes writes lil songs but he doesn’t flex them bc he’s shy bby

Ok so I got really carried away with talking about the Jo/Shannon plot and how I would fix it, so I’ll post that separately, but here are some other plot lines I felt got executed poorly:

Cherrygate in Season 1. I didn’t give a shit about Levi in my playthrough because Clara was in love with Talia, so it just seemed really drawn out and I wasn’t invested at all. Not to once again suck Matchmaker off, but omggggg they did it so much better. SPOILERS FOR MATCHMAKER BELOW THE CUT

In Matchmaker, you have the choice to 1. Be angry at Levi/Mason, Cherry, AND then Jen for masterminding it 2. Be angry just at Jen 3. Be angry at Levi/Mason but not Cherry 4. Admit that you’ve been cheating with Talia this whole time and don’t care or 5. Just don’t care in general. They also draw it out the perfect amount- you get to dwell on it for two days, but it doesn’t get dragged out for longer than that. It had the super satisfying finality of sending Levi/Mason home or forgiving him, so we got the proper closure. I way preferred this to forcing us to continue being in a couple with Levi/Mason even after Cherrygate should have ended.

The entirety of S3. Lmao. But especially the stick or switch episode where your LI is grafting onto Lily/Rafi, when Elladine/Nicky leave, and when it’s revealed that MC cheated with Tai. For the last one, I would just re-write it so that MC’s LI breaks up with her if she cheated on them. For Elladine/Nicky, I would have the other partner follow them out of the villa. And for Lily/Rafi, I would either write customized apology scenes for each of the LIs or follow through and have them couple up with Lily/Rafi, leaving MC to either decide to not let them go and fight for them or to move on. Those wouldn’t fix how dull S3 was, but it’d help.

In s2 I feel like the majority of plot points are good in theory but executed poorly- I LOVE operation nope, but the writing makes Hope out to be a victim and completely absolves Bobby of any responsibility (plus literally no one is involved except Noah, Hope, and Priya. Like this is the couple that everyone in the villa is rooting for and… no one has anything to say?). Instead it just turned into the Priya show (I love her but like… Can someone else say anything else…). Idk how I would write it- maybe bring Gary or Lurik in to tell Bobby it wasn’t cool. Or maybe get Lottie more involved… Idk.

CA should’ve been really high-stake drama mixed with fun new personalities but it just fell flat as well. I blame that partially on the writing for Arjun, Elijah, and Felix being pretty annoying and not very distinct. Like their designs are hot but if you’re going to want people to take an interest you need to give them a very distinct personality type and sell that quickly. They got the unattached tech guy and the mysterious DJ down well, but what archetypes are Arjun and Elijah filling? Why do I want to drop my normal LI for them? I know they halfheartedly established Arjun as the male Elisa, but that’s not super compelling. And Elijah has no personality whatsoever. I personally would re-write it so that Elijah and Arjun aren’t endgame, add more banter between them, and have them reject MC if she tries because they’re falling for each other. I would completely change Felix’s personality to make him the game’s resident himbo, and I would make Kassam’s route more consistent so it actually mAkeS sEnSe (i.e. he always chooses you if you wear basic clothes or if you don’t fix any of the drama).

Nope getting back together is the hardest part of the game for me, because oof ouchie even if MC wasn’t romancing him seeing Noah act like Hope is his salvation hurts. Please give us a conversation where he admits they have problems but wants to try and work it out, and maybe a scene with the girl who has the highest relationship to us comforting MC if she did romance Noah. Because the cinderella scene sucks when no one acknowledges that MC was coming back to Noah…

I would just scrap the bird chapter entirely. I hate that bird chapter so much.

So I feel like the major plots that were executed well in S2 were Roccogate and most of the minigame challenges, but a lot of it could use some revision.

Part 4 of me rambling about my universe, this time (hopefully) more coherent.

Here’s a nice little list of information about the core people:

Sean Owenson- He/him, gay, virgo. Comes from a very rich but high-key homophobic family, resulting in him never not living in his extreme privilege but also having a lot of childhood trauma. He’s a bit of a himbo, and a large part of his development is learning how to be emotionally present for others instead of being overly defensive of himself.

Kara Beverly - She/her, lesbian, scorpio. Comes from a very similar background as Sean, and the two are extremely close friends. Kara learned how to lie very well at a very young age, and had become a master manipulator by the time she was fourteen. She has a logic over emotions mindset, and can get overwhelmed if she gets to a point where she can no longer suppress her emotions. Her development mainly centers around her ability to show people her true self instead of what she thinks they want to see.

Jonah Alman - He/him, gay/demisexual, aries. Comes from a small town, and is very close to his family. He has a tendency to pressure himself beyond his capabilities, and has General Anxiety Disorder and Clinical Depression. His development focuses on him learning how to cut toxicity out of his life and not let his struggle define him.

Nicky Joffrin - He/him, gay, leo. His defining trait is that he’s a dancer, which is the first thing he’ll tell anyone who will listen. His parents are supportive of him, if a lot bit overbearing. He’s a bit obsessed with being in control of every situation he’s in, which makes him a bit difficult in romantic contexts. His development focuses on him not being completely self-centered, and becoming willing to put others first.

Leah Stevens - She/her, lesbian, taurus. Went to Catholic school growing up, and started listening to punk rock as a form of rebellion. Turned out to really liked it, and started playing bass guitar. In college, she joins an all-girl punk band as the bassist, and it takes off. A big part of her development is learning how to take things seriously.

Patty O’Harris (aka Patrick Ford) - He/him, bisexual, taurus. Comes from a small, conservative town, and from a young age tries his best to advocate for equality and social justice, and not internalize toxic rhetoric. Throughout his development, he figures out how to not feel insecure in his identity and take a step back when it’s needed.

Jamie Ford - He/him, gay, pisces. His parents got divorced when he was five, and although custody was split equally, was often neglected by his mom and spoiled by his dad. He’s overdramatic and a hopeless romantic, and is incredibly optimistic the 90% of the time he isn’t cursing existence. Develops by learning to live in reality instead of wishing for idealistic fantasies, and knowing when to tone down the melodrama.

Carli Rossi - He/him/any, gay, aquarius. Has a lot of childhood trauma that would take a very long time to get into, but can be summarized by him having narcissistic, very Christian parents who cared more about their reputation than his well-being. He comes out as gay and atheist when he’s twelve, and is essentially rejected and called a disappointment, and so figures he’s already going to hell so he has nothing left to lose. Out of spite, he tries to become the embodiment of the flamboyant gay stereotype, as well as turning to sex and alcohol as coping mechanisms at far too young of an age, and kind of loses which parts of that are actually him and which parts are just the opposite of his parents. His development centers around figuring that out, and realizing that the entire world isn’t out to get him.

Cal Rossi - He/him, gay, sagittarius. He’s Carli’s older brother, and has a very different childhood experience. He’s outed to his parents two years after Carli comes out, and is pretty much told that it’s fine as long as he’s perfect in literally every other way. The amount of pressure to conform makes it hard for him to fully figure himself out, and his development focuses on him figuring out how to define himself independent of anyone else.

Rowan Ashe - He/him, gay, cancer. Comes from a large, very loving family, in a small, close-minded town. He’s kind of buff and very athletic, and is over-protective to the point where it’s a bit concerning. He has a gentle soul, but has been conditioned that he needs to fight to be respected, and a big part of his development is dismantling that.

Max Rivera - She/her, lesbian, taurus. Her mom died when she was little, and her dad wasn’t the best, so she learned how to be independent fairly early on. She got kicked out of her house when she was seventeen, and everything she has she got herself, making her very unwilling to let go. She develops by learning how to relax and let herself be taken care of.

Jayden Kowalski - She/her, lesbian, gemini. Grew up going to Catholic school, and was a bit of track star there. She runs away from home when she is sixteen, after being threatened with conversion therapy by her mom, and finds an odd comfort in always needing to run. She’s very persistent, and over her development learns how to go after what she wants rather than just what she feels like she needs.

Andy Burke - He/him, gay, libra. Comes from a small family, and despite his easy going personality, has a hard time making friends that he doesn’t share a fundamental common interest with. He’s very into photography, and pretty much his entire life revolves around that, and really just wants to make art and give things to people he loves. His development centers around learning to stand up for himself and letting himself be loved back.

Vivian Richter - She/her, labels what labels, sagittarius. Her parents always had a very strong work ethic that she inherited, so she’s really good at making goals and achieving them. She has a tendency to treat everything like a competition that she has to win, and always hesitates to let her guard down. As she develops, she learns how to better trust people and not always deflect when asked meaningful questions.

Emma Yancey - She/her, lesbian, gemini. Makes a lot of jokes, and is the type to call everyone “bruh.” Doesn’t make friends easily, but becomes really close to those she does. Doesn’t talk to her parents at all after she moves out, and doesn’t want to go back to doing that, but doesn’t like the hole it leaves in her life. Is only ever serious in her writing, which can get really heavy, and seeks relationships in order to feel valid. Develops by figuring out how to be self-sufficient and not internalize the hatred directed towards her.

Rae Gunner - She/her, bisexual, scorpio. Raised by a very young single mother, and generally became used to not getting what she wanted. She is clinically depressed, and has a problem with sometimes romanticizing that in her own head. She’s the lead singer of the all-girl punk band that Leah’s the bassist for. Her development focuses on her getting to the point where she’s willing to put an effort into getting better.

Jason Lau - He/him, gay, cancer. He’s been very into dance since he was little, although his dad always thought it was “too feminine” and he should stop. He does not, and just feels the need to constantly prove himself. He has a problem with people who think they’re better than him, and his preferred method of petty revenge is to just annoy the shit out of people. He develops by figuring out when to be sincere and how to love people despite their flaws.

And that’s it! Well, that’s all the core people, and that’s just basic information, but that’s it for this post. I’m kind of tempted to make picrews for some of them, so that might be coming up soon. As always, please leave asks about my universe if you’re at all curious. Thanks!
