I am once again reading fics from recommendation lists and honestly no shade to the writers but if your writing about other cultures don't you do your research?? because it's very painful reading ships were one person is supposed to be german-ish or multilingual and you just have to put it down because it's painfully inaccurate

public transportation in Germany is generally pretty shitty, nothing's on time and trains also just sometimes don't arrive

Honestly if your character is a professor from a german university town he will not praise the efficiency of the U-Bahn in comparison to the New York subway because his city doesn't have a U-Bahn??

Some people think germany is digital heaven but that is not the case. It's very far behind in internet speed and digital equipment in schools and unis

Your professor cannot complain about blackboards 😭, especially if he teaches poetry. No, white boards are not more common. Like I'm a comp sci major and we have white boards in our building but all other lecture halls have blackboards and if I have my classes in the humanities or math department there's just blackboards??

Of course the equipment of the schools and unis is also dependent on state funding, donations and location but come on

People speak English, good English. Pretty much every non-British/American/Canadian/Australian etc. person speaks English, so keep up

Sometimes I try to force myself to keep reading because of the time period but no, making someone practically infantile while speaking English is fucking weird

Also just writing accents into the words is fucking weird and the way in which they're written doesn't make sense

(I also read a fic where the "Russian" accent just was german?? Google translate is free?? And also as a slavic person: what the fuck? There is a difference between da/ja and @ the people thinking slavic languages and german are equally harsh gibberish my relatives think my accent is "harsh" because I have a german one)

Also @ people incorporating german snippets into fics don't use the formal "you". I guess Americans don't learn different languages but formal pronouns are actually pretty common in most languages

Dirty talk in german is not sexy. It just isn't

Writing a modern AU with a German jew is very funny(but also very much not) because there are so few few jews in Germany today.. ever heard of the holocaust? Yeah european jews faced genocide and not just the German ones. I guess as an American it's pretty common to meet jews but that literally has a reason(!!!)

German people are also as a majority atheists or just christian-ish. Making someone fanatically catholic is weird (but more accurate if they're from Bavaria). Generally evangelism is more common

If you make someone speak another language *like so* using English idioms doesn't make sense (I always translate in my head and it doesn't work)

And accidentally "switching languages" like in fics doesn't happen or just if you are in an environment where you have to constantly switch between and translate multiple languages and are very tired but you realize mostly immediately

Knowing all vocabulary isn't realistic. Your vocabulary is dependent on the context for which you use those languages, so you can translate some stuff immediately but I mostly know the meaning of vocabulary separately but can't translate on the spot

Y'know the thing that really gets me?

The Hemmick-Minyards are so very quiet probably because the people that raised them were so awful they were unconsciously conditioned that making a noise equates to violence— whether it be verbal or physical. Making the littlest of noise garners the attention of these people, and staying silent ensures less of that so they naturally grew up to be just that because that was their unconscious instinct for survival.

So flash forward to a few years after they left that toxicity and everything and sometimes,, it still gets them. It was Nicky back when he was in Germany, raving about how everything went well in school and then stopping mid-conversation for a hot minute because he saw that big and gorgeous smile on Erik's face and Nicky didn't know why he stopped and assumed it was because of his big crush on him, but it was only when he slept in that night that he realized that no, it wasn't that. It was the chilling realization that no one had ever enthusiastically listened to him before.

It was Aaron who slowly started opening up to Katelyn, from small talk, course rants, to genuine topics he likes. One day he was talking about this band's music he really likes and he's going off about this particular song when he looks at her, stopping at mid-sentence and feeling odd. Katelyn nods, prodding him to continue, and he does but the odd feeling doesn't go away. He realized later it's because he never really talked so much before.

It's Andrew's mind racing when he's talking to Neil, wondering why the words come out so easily. He found it strange, he never really talked much before, or maybe he did but little about himself, and not in a way that made him feel... lighter? It was him finding himself looking for Neil after his classes because his professor did something stupid and Andrew really finds it odd, he does,, but he feels compelled to tell someone and there was Neil, waiting for him— genuinely looking like he wants to listen. And so he lets it all out, and it feels kind of stupid but there was a stupid bright glint on Neil's blue, blue eyes and Andrew feels better.

4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to because I love them, and that’s why sometimes I fall into that trap of “I need to adequately convey how happy this comment made me, I can’t just say ‘thank you’’ and then I leave it for too long. Also sometimes I don’t have the spoons at that moment. But I appreciate every last one of them.

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I love angst, but I love a happy ending even more, so in my fic the angst usually gets resolved. A fic that regularly leaves people in tears, though, is At Samhain, but the ending has hope.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

So many happy endings! ☺️ One of the happiest might be my Merlin Age of Sail AU, The Seven Seas , which has a very happy ending after a lot of angst and heartache.

7. Do you write crossovers?

No, not really.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Not really personal attacks so much, but I have received snide comments, character bashing and absurdly wilful misinterpretations. And always on anon of course.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, I do. I’m a proud alumni of multiple Pornathons in the Merlin fandom. When I write kink, it tends to be PWP of the kind that’s about losing control, or pushing the lines of taboos. In my longer or more plotty fic it’s more emotional, focused on the characters’ connection.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I once had someone write a fic that had the exact same plot down to locations and minor details and even almost the same dialogue as one I was posting. Like a (bad) rewrite. It was very weird.  

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, a few, which I’m ever so grateful for. 💕

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. I’m honestly not sure how that would work for me. 😅

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Joe/Nicky really is the fulfillment of all my shippy hopes and dreams. 😍 Beyond them, maybe Cherik. I like the drama. 😂

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

A Cherik bodyswap fic, set between XMFC and Days of Future Past, while Erik is imprisoned. I love the premise and what I have so far, but it’s been so long that I’ve been in that fandom.

15. What are your writing strengths?

Conveying emotions and believable dialogue 

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

Transitions and being overly dramatic, which is probably connected lol

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I do enjoy it in sprinkles, if it’s done well. Endearments, curses, stuff that mostly won’t need a translation footnote but grounds a character in a different cultural background. 

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

I wrote stuff before I knew about fanfiction. Before you could find (and easily post) stuff on the internet. But the first fic I wrote and posted was Harry Potter, gen with very, very heavy wolf star undertones 😅

19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

I don’t really have an unfulfilled craving right now, and I tend to focus on one fandom, and even one ship almost exclusively, but I’m a little surprised at myself for never having written Sterek. 🤔

20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

That is so hard to pick, but two favourites are Shalom Malak for XMFC and If You Abide With Me for TOG

aftg fandom is scared shitless of romantic rarepairs. i’m not talking about smut pairings, i’m talking real relationship pairings non-centered around sex. why wouldn’t jean x aaron work? thea x katelyn? renison x lailalvarez? bee x abby? kevin x nicky (+/- x erik) ? the minute you suggest it you get your head bashed in and your fan business card revoked “because it makes no sense” (*ahem* KEVAARON fans know the trauma). yes it does ok? it can work. that’s the whole POINT of fandom. don’t like don’t read don’t interact. but don’t tell me it isn’t working or believable. anyways, thoughts on the fandom’s cowardice?

obsessed with how aggressive this is actually. i agree with you on the point that aftg fans seem to be FAR more invested in policing other people and their views than. most other fans I've associated with. idk if it's because there's so much sensitive content with it that they feel like to change it is to disservice it but I've seen it get ridiculously intense. it sounds like you've personally had bad experiences so i don't blame you for feeling like this.

i mostly disagree with the general point here though because i feel like rare pairs are one thing that the aftg fans have on deck. hell I've got people in my inbox right now talking about Ichirou/Andrew. to be perfectly honest i don't read proper fic that much but i have seen really random pairings from when i have poked around. that might not be representative of what's actually out there, i don't know. so i guess i won't disagree because i don't really know enough.

disagree that people can't criticize pairings—that's the right of a fan. agree that people should really not go into content they don't like just so to criticize it..keep that shit on your own pages don't ruin things other people enjoy for no reason.

kinda ehh on your point that 'any pairing will make sense in fandom because that's the whole point of fandom' because, for me at least, i dont like it when dynamics and personalities are TOO different from canon and i think that sometimes canon personalities just dont go well together. i don't think that just anyone can be shipped together because it simply won't interest me if there's no chemistry. like you said though, to each their own and absolutely nothing has to be universal, people should take what they want and leave the rest untouched.

THUNDER AND FURY (THOR ODINSON X BLACK! OC)

Summary: Nicki Fury a tough girl who had no time for games is put on a team of formidable superheros falling in love with her polar opposite Thor odinson

Loki was now free from his cuffs and now contained in a large glass cell held by hydraulic rigs. Nicki watched as Fury walked up to the control panel of the cell.

"In case it's unclear, You try to escape, You so much as scratch that glass." Fury pressed a button which opened up a hatch underneath Loki's cell. Loki peered as much as he could from the glass. Without seeing, the sounds of gusting wind would make a man shit his pants.

Not a god, though.

Thirty thousand feet, straight down in a steel trap. "You get how that works?" Fury taunted.

Closing the hatch and pointing at Loki he spoke. "Ant." Then points to the button which would drop Loki into the steel trap. "Boot."

"It's an impressive cage" he smirked. "Not built, I think, for me."

"Built for something a lot stronger than you." Fury corrected.

"Oh, I've heard." Loki eyes pierce through the camera as Nicki tried to stop the shutter that crept down her back, this guy was really creepy.

Banner looked at the monitor, intently. Nicki felt for Bruce she didn't do that with many people, it was sad really to watch people prepare for the worst putting no trust in you.

"The mindless beast, makes play he's still a man. How desperate are you?" Loki scoffed. "That you call upon such lost creatures to defend you?"

"How desperate am I? You threaten my world with war, You steal a force you can't hope to control." He paused regaining himself, "You talk about peace and you kill `cause it's fun. You have made me very desperate. You might not be glad that you did." Fury argued.

"Ooh. It burns you to come so close. To have the Tesseract, to have power, unlimited power." Chortled Loki. "And for what? A warm light for all mankind to share, and then to be reminded what real power is."

"Well, you let me know if 'Real Power' wants a magazine or something." Fury walking off leaving Loki in his glass cell. Loki's eyes trail back to the camera, smirking.

Steve watched until the monitor went black. Thor, who didn't even look, just listened, stood there torn apart. They all just stood there in stunned silence until finally --

"He really grows on you, doesn't he?" Banner joked awkwardly.

"Loki's gonna drag this out. So, Thor, what's his play?" Steve questioned looking up to the god.

Finally out of his own head he spoke "He has an army called the Chitauri. They're not of Asgard or any world known. He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the earth. In return, I suspect, for the Tesseract."

"An army? From outer space?" Steve asks in disbelief

"So he's building another portal. That's what he needs Erik Selvig for." Nicki said as she put two and two together.

Thor raised an eyebrow "Selvig?"

"He's an astrophysicist." Nicki informed him.

"He's a friend." Nicki had to stop yet another shiver from crawling down her back his voice was sent from the gods, literally.

"Loki has him under some kind of spell, along with one of ours." Natasha speaks plainly

"I wanna know why Loki let us take him. He's not leading an army from here." Concluded Steve.

Bruce shook his head in disgust, "I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full of cats, you could smell crazy on him."

"Have care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard, and he's my brother." Thor defended.

"He killed eighty people in two days." Natasha deadpanned

"He's adopted."

"Iridium, what did they need the Iridium for?" Bruce shrugged.

"It's a stabilizing agent." Tony said as he walked in with Coulson "I'll fly you there. Keep the love alive." Tony nodded to agent Coulson before continuing, "means the portal won't collapse on itself, like it did at SHIELD."

"No hard feelings, Point Break. You've got a mean swing." Tony patted the god's arm who looked down at him in disgusted confusion. "Also, it means the portal can open as wide, and stay open as long, as Loki wants."

"Uh, raise the mid-mast, ship the top sails. That man is playing Galaga! Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did." Tony said bothering Nicki's crew covering his eye he looks around "How does Fury see this?"

"He turns." Maria shrugged Tony looks around the monitors placing a button size hacking implant under Fury's desk, without anyone noticing.

"Well, that sounds exhausting. The rest of the raw materials, Agent Barton can get his hands on pretty easily," Tony huffed. "Only major component he still needs is a power source. A high energy density, something to kick start the cube."

"When did you become an expert in thermonuclear astrophysics?" Agent Hill asked.

"Last night. The packet, Selvig's notes, the Extraction Theory papers. Am I the only one who did the reading?" Said Tony acting shocked.

Steve sighed. "Does Loki need any particular kind of power source?"

"He's got to heat the cube to a hundredand twenty million Kelvin just to break through the Coulomb barrier." Bruce informed them.

"Unless, Selvig has figured out how to stabilize the quantum tunneling effect." Chimed in Tony.

"Well, if he could do that he could achieve Heavy Ion Fusion at any reactor on the planet." Bruce finished

"Finally, someone who speaks English." Tony smiled shortly.

Nicki scoffed "sorry we'll try to keep a book of nerd translation on deck" it wasn't that Nicki didn't understand what they said she was a smart girl her father made sure of that.

"Is that what just happened?" Steve queried.

"Nerd translation? What are you 5?" Tony mocked it just so happened that Nicki was by far the youngest avenger but she was willing to bet all her money she could take down just about any of them in combat.

"A joke about my age? What are you 70?"

"Try 41" he said crossing his arms.

Nicki chuckled dryly before speaking Oh believe me Anthony, I know.

Tony's eyes grew dark he said nothing else as he turned back to Bruce shaking his hand.

"It's good to meet you, Dr. Banner. You're work on anti-electron collisions is unparalleled" Stark complimented. "And I'm a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous green rage monster."

"Thanks." Bruce said while looking down.

No one took notice (besides Nicki) of Fury walking in the room until his voice made it very apparent "Dr. Banner is only here to track the cube. I was hoping you might join him."

Let's start with that stick of his. It may be magical, but it works an awful lot like a HYDRA weapon." Steve said looking around the room.

"I don't know about that, but it is powered by the cube" Fury stated. "And I'd like to know how Loki used it to turn two of the sharpest men I know into his personal flying monkeys."

"Monkeys? I do not understand." Thor's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Basically his puppets" Nicki informed the god.

"I do! I understood that reference." Steve exclaimed raising a finger Tony rolled his eyes, while Cap looked proud of himself.

"Shall we play, doctor?" Tony asked Bruce

"Let's play some." With that the two headed to the Helicarrier lab to do their tech wizardry As Banner and Tony walked out, the Galaga player turned ever so discreetly, watching as everyone else disperses, going right back to playing.

Why couldn't this be like Galaga?
