extremely emotional day at the v&a. first i cry three times during the africa fashion exhibtion because they had nigerien designs and people's family photo albums and everything was so so beautiful and intricate. now i'm in the giftshop and there's a woman that looks so much like my grandmother and i stared at her way too long but um. losing my mind

The Wodaabe are traditionally nomadic cattle-herders and traders in the Sahel, with migrations stretching from southern Niger, through northern Nigeria, northeastern Cameroon, southwestern Chad, western region of the Central African Republic and the northeastern of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The number of Wodaabe was estimated in 2001 to be 100,000. They are known for their elaborate attire and rich cultural ceremonies.

Nigerian born Steven Onoja knows style. Residing in New York City, his craft is providing stylistic vision from an urban perspective. He appreciates effortless style and loves to connect with creative individuals. Currently working as a visual storyteller and writer, he also works closely with Nigerien musician Adekunle Gold to create enhanced visual experiences for the artist’s work.
Modeling, acting, writing — Michael Cortina has been “in the biz” since age 5, starting in commercials and theatrical plays. Shortly after completing high school, Michael moved to New York City to pursue acting professionally. Since then, he has traveled throughout Asia and moved to Miami for his career. And now, Michael is back in NYC, working on his creative outlets as a member of Anthony Mendl’s studio.
La Touché, aka Mr. Hat, began his love affair with headwear at a young age watching his grandfather don hats of different styles. Today, La Touché organizes hat parties – a chance for like-minded individuals to sport their finest headwear. His recent bash at SoHo Grand Hotel brought out some of New York’s biggest players in fashion and showcased a myriad of hat styles.
The Series launches nationwide supported by a strategic social media campaign and features iconic products from the autumn/winter 2019 collection. The collection includes classic shirting, flock printed t-shirts, heritage waffle knitwear, and a range of outerwear available for purchase in-store and online now.

Alphadi was born in Timbuktu, Mali, but moved to his parents native Niger at a young age. Alphadi studied at Cardon Savard Studios in Paris, started his label in 1984, and his first haute couture line was released in 1985 at the Paris International Tourism Tradeshow. His line has since extended into sportswear and perfume. The Alphadi line, which has 'Complexe Alphadi' boutiques in Niamey (on Rue Vox),vory Coast and Paris In 1998 Alphadi was the one of the three African fashion designers to win the Principal Prince Claus Award; the other two were Tetteh Adzedu from Ghana and Oumou Sy. In 1998, he created the first FIMA, the International Festival of African Fashion which was located in Niger.This event allowed African designers to come together with other international designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Kenzo, Jean Paul Gaultier and Paco Rabanne. Since then, the event has been going on every 2 years.In 2007, he launched a new contest during the FIMA and Hip Hop FIMA Contest.
